[Q] Remove Contacts, Home and Dialler buttons/icons - Flipout and Charm General

Hi,
As this is my first smart phone, I don't know whether this is an Android thing, a Motorola thing or a Flipout thing. But is there any way of getting rid of the 3 buttons/icons (Contacts, Home and Dialler) down the right hand side of the screen? The middle one appears to be a duplication of the home button, and the other 2 aren't that useful.
Thanks

Replace the launcher, ADW Launcher, GO Launcher EX, LauncherPro.
They take a bit to get set up how you want. So keep a dock if you want with things you actually use, or get rid and have more space

Hi,
Thanks for that. I've had a play with a couple of those launchers, and they do allow me to get rid of those icons down the right hand side. But the space where they were still seems to be 'reserved' somehow, as I can put widgets/icons there. Is there anyway I can just get rid of the dock altogether so I can use the whole desktop for whatever I want?
Thanks

aditional pulldown "tray"?

The notifications tray is great, easily pops down most of the time and the apps tray (with ALL the apps) is just as nice.
But i would like a extra tray for settings and/or favorite apps instead of clogging the "desktop" with shortcuts.
like a tray that flips out from the side of the screen.
is it even possible to add a off-screen container such as the above mentioned dropdown/up trays?
and if yes, are there any available at this time?
I know this isn't going to answer your query, but what is wrong with just populating one of your home screens with shortcuts?
I mean, if you do this with one of the screens either side of the "centre" home screen, you effectively get what you require.
Regards,
Dave
I do use the screens as placeholders for my everyday apps, but most of the time i need a app thats on another screen, meaning i have to go look for it.
With a pulldown tray that would pop out from the side, i could keep my most used apps more conviniently located, just a tap away, instead of 1 to 6 swipes away.
since the apps and notifications are dropdown/up i feel its missing dropdown left/right, witch is the real reason im wondering.
it would be great with apps on one side and settings on the other, then i wouldnt use more than one or two homescreens for widgets only.
I seem to recall one of the home replacement apps had this...I can't recall which.
I know, what you mean.
It's not so nice, to put hundreds of widgets and Shortcuts on the screen.
I don't like it on Windows Desktop, too.
Therefor, I have loaded Apps Organizer from Market.
I put my Apps in 5 Folders, sorted.
Is that something to try for you?

I love it, really.
Perfect thanks

I recently converted from a strictly WinMo user to Android and having struggled to find apps stored on my phone because of a lack of folder organisation, am thrilled to find this app. Many thanks!

actually you can do that with the stock sense widgets, as there are folders for the homescreen. afaik they don't support custom icons though.

Any way to stop throwing away ADW launcher?

With CM7 I keep throwing the ADW launcher away, it seems that when I unlock the screen I am holding it at an angle that puts the launcher on the "top" of the screen, but I use my thumb slide down the notification bar.....which isn't on top because the way I am holding the phone....and I end up basically dragging the ADW launcher into the trash. Even when I go into the settings and restart the launcher it takes a few minutes.
Any way to stop doing that....other than holding the phone straight or waiting a second for the screen to rotate? I looked in the launcher settings to find anything that would stop me from throwing it away, but can't find anything. So far CM7 RC4 is working flawlessly in every other department....I just can't seem to stop throwing the launcher in the trash.
When you mean "launcher" do you mean the app drawer? If so then you can lock it so no changes will be made. Just hit menu and Lock Desktop. If its not there check under more.
I actually find adw launcher to be incredibly annoying. Can't stand having default weird gestures that make things vanish or explode. On top of it, it really doesn't do anything useful over the stock launcher, and has a really "amateurish" look to it. I say just delete adwlauncher and replace it with stock. Works way better.

I'm on c7 nightly rom which comes with adw launcher installed by default. Where can I find the 'stock' launcher to either flash through recovery or install?

I don't mind it as much, I just got sick of constantly throwing it in the garbage. It seems that the problem is that the accelerometer is sluggish with CM7, and it takes a second for the screen to flip vertical as I am unlocking the screen while taking it out of my pocket. That and the fact that the drawer goes to the "top" of the screen in landscape mode instead of being at the bottom like the stock ones does.....plus the garbage can is on the top of the screen not the bottom like stock. With the stock ROM I am used to unlocking the screen while picking up the phone and quickly using my thumb to drop down the notification bar to read a new text. When I do it that fast with CM7, combined with all the above "issues", I end up dragging the drawer into the trash can. Rather annoying. For now I just removed the garbage can and use long hold to delete things on the screen. But I am thinking of loading the stock drawer.
Right now I am in the process of finding a radio that doesn't lose all signal randomly and doesn't kill my battery. So after this trial and error with radios, I might switch back to the OE drawer.

There are ones on the market but this one is the lightest I've found.
Why don't you just lock the desktop, as previously suggested in Post #2? One of the reasons I like ADW, is becuase its the only launcher I've tried so far that has the feature to lock the desktop.
Another workaround, I personally don't like the homescreen/lanucher auto-rotating with the G-Sensor, so in the ADW settings, I have it locked to Portrait. On this setting, the homescreen only goes to landscape when you open the keyboard.

Remove Apps from Dock

Morning all,
I am trying to figure out how to remove widgets from the Gbread dock but its not obvious to me. I tried pressing and holding like I normally would do, but it only brings up a list of widgets that can be added. It seems we have two icons that basically do the same thing in the dialer and people widgets, now that everything has been consolidated functionality wise, so I want to remove one.
Thanks,
Steve
you cannot remove an application from the dock if you are running stock gingerbread. However, you can replace it. If you only want three icons in your dock, you are going to have to switch to something like a home screen replacement application, or a rom that runs off of one (I.E. Liberty v.5). hope that helps.
Cool..thanks for the assist. It seems weird that they would keep two icons in the dock that end up doing the same things...maybe this gets fixed in official release. Hey Verizon/Moto you listening??
I don't think they care, what you can do is put an icon there you do use over one of the extra ones...

[Q] How to chnage home screen icons

Hi,
I got my SM-9005 yesterday on contract from Optus (australia).
Does anybody know how the hell you change the icons on the bottom of the screen? I want to get rid of the default "Internet" and change it to Opera. Also getting rid of the text underneath would be good to.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
i use a second launcher, something like Apex, Nova, or Next, will allow you to change the dock icons, rearrange them, redo the icons, and everything else

If you use 3rd party launcher, My Magazine app would be automatically created on the app drawer. At least that's what happen if you use Nova Launcher.

Press and hold the Icon till you see it lift up, then move it to "remove" at the top.

Home screen on Simple Touch Glowlight after rooting

Hi,
I don't have a clue when it comes to android. I have just rooted my Simple Touch with Glowlight and the relauncher screen looks nothing like any Android desktop I've ever seen. It looks like this:
htp://imgur.com/i5hBgZc - insert an extra t - it won't let me post any links..
I haven't tried to install the NTGAppsAttack yet, as I don't want to install over something that is already incorrect.
Any ideas?
That's how relaunch looks.
The home screen is a file manger, the middle button at the bottom (9 little squares) is your apps drawer, you can configure the home directory and other stuff from the gear button, etc.
You can probably install a standard android launcher, but with all the slidings and and graphics and such it just isn't very well adapted to e-ink
I felt the same way about Relauncher when I first saw it. Seemed to hide the most important stuff. I tried a variety of launchers (also totally new to the Android world). I settled on ADW Launcher. Seems to run and look just fine and allowed me to "hide away" the apps that I didn't want to look at all the time behind the home screen.
I have used ADW and Re-launch but settled on lightning launcher as best for me. You can customize it to have no background and it is very fast. I keep Re-launch on my Nook but set it up to run as an app and not as a launcher (you can find this somewhere in the settings).
Thanks for the replies guys. I have been trying to configure Launcher8 as my homepage as it looks quite clean and it's very simple to use.
