[NEW FLASH INFO]GalaxySENSE ROM by Kenia1234, Chiledog, and Dexter_nlb - Captivate Android Development

1st. I didn't create this ROM, just asked Kenia1234 what to change and did it.
2nd. Kenia1234, Chiledog, Dexter_nlb, and myself WILL NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE!!!!!!!!
This still has the button mapping problem and the auto rotation problem, If you know where a kernel(reoriented for SENSE on this device) is or someone that will make it ask them to do so, and post a link!(PLEASE!!!!!!!!!)
I want to thank Kenia1234, Chiledog, and Dexter_nlb for making this beast ROM, hope to see more progress made!
If already on MIUI or CM7, just reboot into recovery and go to mounts and storages>wipe system, data, datadata, cache> flash GalaxySense.zip and enjoy!!!!!!
Download the following Files-
1.- http://www.oozeroo.com/galaxysense/captivatedownload.html OR http://www.multiupload.com/YH9BF88X9Y but show some love to the oOZerOo website )

3. Flash back to stock, if you don't know how- http://www.mediafire.com/?0w2y31maz8mdom4
4. BACKUP EFS FOLDER ONTO SD CARD OR SOMEWHERE ELSE!
5. Flash MIUI/CM7 in recovery, reboot, let it boot ALL THE WAY UP.
6. Reboot into recovery, go to mounts and storages, format system and data and datadata and cache.

b-eock: I just want to get some clarification on the installation process. I believe the installation process for getting to MIUI changed a while ago where you no longer need to flash the cm7-initial kernel, efs backup, etc. You just have to be on 2.1/2.2 bootloaders and have CWM installed then flash the MIUI zip (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
Would this process not be the same for GalaxySense or am I missing something?

Which kernel? When you flash MIUI, it includes it's own kernel correct? So would it be the MIUI stock kernel that you need?
And about backing up EFS, if MIUI no longer requires that step, as in it does this as part of the flash process now, why is it necessary to do it before flashing MIUI? Just trying to get clarification. Seems kind of strange to me.
This states using the new CM7/MIUI flashing procedures as well.

I will try this in the night!

GalaxySense has existed since April for the Galaxy S i9000 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044637). This is simply a port to run it on the Captivate (which has also existed since April or May by following the Escapists instructions).
Projects like this is why an AOSP based kernel is so important. AOSP removes all of Samsung's proprietary issues and allows any other ROM that has been ported to AOSP to be ported to the Captivate. CyanogenMod, MIUI, and GalaxySense are all using the same sources to build from..

[Q] Stock Kernel

Hey can anybody give me a link to the stock kernel for the samsung continuum?
anybody have the file or link to a stock Continuum kernel? please
I have the stock kernel, but its on my computer, and I am in Vegas xP
That being said, why would you need it? The plain recovery kernel from imnuts (which you can easily find) is stock, but allows the custom recovery.....

Are you talking about the peanut butter jelly kernel?

Lmao, I wish xP one year away from being able to gamble, almost there haha basically, we are just seeing all the sights, like the hoover dam, grand canyon (and the sky walk over it ), secoia forrest, the works xD

[Q] Kernel

I just flashed the new virtuous unity rom and when I checked the kernel it says unavailable. I downloaded the kernel zip file from their website and when I tried to flash that file it says "Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported. Please switch to Edify scripting (update-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted."
I'm a beginner when it comes to stuff like this and if someone can help me please put it in terms that I can understand. Thanks.
which kernel version are you trying to flash? which version of clockworkmod do you have installed? I think its a known issue that in the "About Phone" menu, sense 3.0 roms dont show the kernel version, but it will show up in setcpu. answer the first 2 questions and we'll go from there
Its kernel Unity V2... U can see it via terminal by typing "uname -a" then enter
Sent from my My Touch 4G using XDA Premium App
I have clockword 3.0.2.4 and im trying to flash virtuous kernel stock v4.
Don't want to be rude intentional or otherwise, but when I was using the panache rom I didn't needed any mods for my usual uses, then came this wonderful ROM and as far I can say I don't need any mod, this is such a nice rom and so far every thing works, all the games works battery life is excellent, speed is good,
Why would you want to try or use other kernel?
Sent from my My Touch 4G using XDA Premium App
I don't want to use another kernel. It says "unavailable" on my kernel version that's why I tried to flash the stock kernel. But the message from my original post showed. Now that I mentioned it. After flashing this rom, whenever I try to flash something it always says installation aborted.
Can anyone help?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
You are still stuck with flashing stuff? Why
If you mean installing applications failed that's other problem you need to reflash your ROM as you must have messed up the rom by flashing the kernel.
Installation a aborted is usually due to a corrupt download. Check md5 sums to make sure its a good download. Try downloading the file and flash again... On a side note, no matter which kernel u flash with the unity Rom it will say kernel version unavailable. If u want to see the kernel version, open terminal emulator and type
Su
uname -a
Sent from my My Touch 4G using XDA Premium App
Do u think reflashing the rom will help?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Help what? No one running virtuous unity is able to view their kernel in settings...it says unavailable. You didnt do anything wrong except thinking you did and trying to flash different kernels lol

Last question. When I restore a back up do I need to wipe data and all the other stuff?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yes whenever reverting back to something or flashing a new ROM it is always better to flash from a clean base. You are on the right track from the sounds of it. Just remember that when flashing a kernel you only need to wipe cache partition and dalvik cache.

How to get tablet mode.

How do I get tablet mode without bricking my phone???
Sent from my GT-N7000B using xda premium
You cannot get it if you are on any TouchWiz based Rom, it is not supported by the TW framework.
On any CM9-based Rom you can change your DPI to 213 or less to get the tablet.
It can be done either editing the build.prop file in /system folder, or by downloading Rom Toolbox from
the market and doing the DPI change from its build.prop tweaks.
However, some of the said CM9 Roms have special procedures for getting the tablet mode. Read the
instructions in the OP.

CM9-based Roms are the only safe ICS Roms ATM. They contain a safe custom kernel built from I9100 source code,
while everything else (including Sammy's offical Roms) has an excellent bricking potential.
So, your safe ICS options would be:
1. official CM9
2. Asylum ICS
3. ParanoidAndroid
4. MIUI
However, read the flashing instructions VERY carefully.

edits to the framework since its TW would need to be done via decompiling the jar files and apk files, doing smali/xml editing, recompiling the jars/apks, pushing them to your device, fixing permissions, rebooting, changing dpi then rebooting again
its not as simple as an app that edits frameworks. its alot more work then you would figure, TW is a b!tch
