[Q] mylibrary keeps crashing - Eee Pad Transformer General

Anybody know what to do here?
Every time i start it, it crashes?

Mine did that at one time. Seemed like it was related to being plugged in to the PC. If you aren't plugged to your PC I don't have good advice, otherwise try disconnecting.

No, I wasn't. *sigh*
I tried going into apps and clearing cache and stuff - didn't help.

Mine too. It worked first day i had it...now it FC every time. Very frustrating too. I've even factory reset, force stop, clear cache, etc. Nothing!!
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App

it happened to me twice, and I fixed it both by turning on airplane mode.
Hope that helps

I have had it happen to me also... the first time it was a bad ebook... ball i did was remove all my books and cleared the cache, then re-added the books one at a time... this time i have no clue what is doing it...

Awesome tip...was almost going bald pulling my hair out.

what a pita... thanks to this issue I wasted 2 hours tonight trying other readers, they all suck btw.

MyLibrary workaround
I found some information in another forum, where a member says he called ASUS - which told him it was a problem with the MyLibrary servers. Apparently, if there's an internet connection and the servers are down it crashes the app.
The workaround is to put it airplane mode. I did that and BAM - it will open fine.
Once MyLibrary is running in Airplane Mode, you can turn Airplane Mode off and the app will continue running. So you CAN read and get your emails. The servers are supposed to be fixed soon (within 24 hours of this post).
FYI, I had gone through - fix permissions ... and when that didn't work, cleared the data and cache for the app -- and when that didn't work, reflashed Prime!1.5 and THEN fixed permissions -- and was at my last step before doing a full reflash with a factory data reset before I found the workaround. Boy, I'm glad I didn't go that far

Same problem here. Just tried putting it in Airplane mode, and it didn't seem to help. It's really frustrating. I've scoured the File Manager and I simply don't know what's causing it to do this.
Edit: Wow, I actually found it from checking one more time. It was in a temporary folder in my Nook folder and it was a magazine. Crazy.

MyLibrary crashes on files it can not "understand"
After having several MyLibrary crashing problems I think its due to text files being discovered by the MyLibrary. During some kind of app installation a log.txt was created on the file system. Unfortunately MyLibrary scans the whole file system for books and text files. It chokes on a simple log.txt for example.
Sometimes it crashed not so fast and I was able to quickly open the standard epub Alice in Wonderland (actually MyLibrary re-creates it after you delete it from the file system), and it actually opened the e-book correctly. However it crashed when it encountered the log.txt.
Still Asus should really quickly fix this, because when people have gathered a large library of ebooks and book text files, then it will be hard to notice a "violating" file...
Anyhow, the deletion of the suspected text file really took away my problem. The first time I tried with factory reset, but it didn't work back then. So don't try to do the cumbersome factory reset!
By the way, with ES File Exporer I searched for the suspected file and deleted it.

So ultimately what's causing this is bad programming.

This essentially turned out to be my problem as well. But that is really pathetic. Other programs should be free to create the files they need without MyBuggyLibrary crashing on them - nobody asked it to scan them in the first place. grrr
Helpful tip though.

And what's most frustrating for me - is that I really like the way MyLibrary works. The 2-page layout in landscape mode is the most natural e-book reader I've held.

Mylibrary cash because of corrupted epub or when the name is too long or with unusual character. Copy all your books on a sd card and then delete them from the internal storage. Eject the sd card and then clear the cache of mylibrary and open again, it should work, then you can put your file one by on to see which one is causing the problem. Hope it helps, it works for me.

Or as I said when it looks at a file, which is not an ebook but the config file of another app.

Yes, I also try to eject SD card, clear the caches and reinsert SD card to solve the FC issues.

+1 This solved the problem for me.
Looked at the @vibe app under ASUS cloud, it kept giving an error that it could not connect to the server. After airplane mode if functioned again.

[Q] HELP: Photo Browser 3d FC on start after 3.1 update

After updating my tablet to 3.1 OTA, the program Photo Browser 3D does not work anymore. Immediately after update or a factory restore, the program will work fine, but after adding all my photos to the tablet, the program will force close at EVERY start. Basically, it doesnt work at all now.
I have tried factory resetting 5 times now and the same problem happens every time!
Someone on a different forum recommended clearing the cache too, but the option is greyed out under Applications and it says that the cache is 0kb.
Can anyone help me with this issue? I was thinking that something was wrong with the apk, but I cant tell. I was thinking that I either need to reinstall the program using a new apk or that I need to flash the tablet with a fresh copy of 3.1. The firstoption would be easiest, but I cant find a copy of the apk. The second option I am scared to do. I dont know how to do it and I dont know which versions to get (I want to be sure I get one that works in the USA and that it isnt hacked, tweaked, or just a 3.0 version madeto look like 3.1).
If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.
Acer Iconia A500 (rooted, but I didnt tamper with system files or apks)
Photo Browser 3D 1.0.00.027
Android 3.1 build 4.010.08_COM_GEN2
Android 3.1 kernel 2.6.36.3
After posting my last message here, my tablet told me I had an update available. UBFORTUNATELY, the stupid problem still exists. The only reason I am typing this folowup message is because the Android build changed.
NEW build: 4.010.10_COM_GEN2
NEW kernel: 2.6.36.3
Same Problem
I have the same problem with 3D Photo Browser.
I use Virtuous_Picasso_v.1.1.0.
Hey spexwood,
here you can give a try.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23326686/3DPhotoBrowser.apk
I tried the Photo Browser 3d above and I still have the same problem. Any got it to work?
I'm running the stock 3.1 and have no problem using it?
I got the app from the market if that helps.
3Dbrowser force close fixed.
Hi all,
I also had the force close problem with 3Dbrowser.apk. Clearing cache for the app did not work. Reinstalling the app by clicking the icon in the system app folder did not work.
Initially I froze the app, but then I tried the following and it worked:
1) download the full OTA package of the ROM version you're running
2) extract 3Dbrowser.apk
3) using root explorer, rename the original 3Dbrowser.apk in the system app folder to 3Dbrowser.bak or move it to the SD card.
4) copy paste the new apk into that folder.
5) change permissions to match the original permissions
6) reboot.
The original apk was 1,92Mb, the one I replaced was 1,93Mb.
I have about 5 folders with pictures (DCIM, Documents, Downloads, ...) they all work and the app is actually quite nice to show off the Iconia's capabilities.
Hope this helps.

After a LOT of experimenting and having thisprogram switch between working wonderfully and force closing upon launch, I have come to the conclusion that it is the pictures themselves!
So, the first thing you need to do is to check that none of your pictures (and/or movies) are not corrupted. I found that the best way to do this is to open the Gallery app and browse through all your files. Youcan use the view in which multiple files are displayed as thumbnails (as opposed to a single full sized picture view). If a file is corrupted, then it will not generate a thumbnail for it. Instead, the thumbnail will remain black and when you tap on it, a full size image will not appear. Instead, a message about the image not being able to be shown will be there.
If you find something corrupted, then delete it via the Gallery and try the 3d Browser again.
The second thing I noticed as of 5 minutes ago:
After a long time of no problems, the 3d Browser decided to stop working today, so I did what I just explained about searching for corrupted images... to my surprise, all of myimages were fine.
I once again opened the Gallery app and noticed something odd, but the only way I can explain it is through an example:
So, lets say you only have 3 folders of images: A, B, and DCIM. In Gallery, you will see these folders listed in a 3D-like affect. They will appear with the folder name under the thumbnail(s) followed by the number of pictures in parenthesis (such as "A (10)").
Of all the folder thumbnails, you will see one that contains no name, but only a number within parenthesis. When I entered this album, I noticed some odd stuff. First, it contained a mix of black-only thumbnails (corrupted files) and images I recognized from my collection. Second, if you look at the details of ANY of the files in this gallery, they have no location, no height, and no width. Hesitantly, I decided to delete everything from this gallery (held my finger over the folder in Gallery and once it highlighted green, I tapped the trashcan icon). It didn't affect any of my pictures and the 3d Browser began working immediately!
I guess this collection was some sort of thumbnail collection or something. For whatever reason, it just accumulates waste over time and if an image no longer exists on the tablet, then the thumbnail appears as a corrupted file, which freaks the 3d Browser out.
I'm sorry if all that was a lot to read and absorb, but I think that doing one of these two things is the solution to this annoying issue.
(Post here if you have questions about anything I just said)

Hmm... that's basically what I did isnt it?
OK, so someone found a solution then. Awesome!
Too bad I didnt know before wasting months trying to figure this issue out =_=
I thought it was the apk, but after replacing it from several sources, it fixed nothing. Then, I installed a custom rom, which also didnt fix it. It wasnt until last night that I FINALLY got it working right.
Oh well. Problem solved XD
Thanks

[Q] MTP ruined 3.2

It's my birthday and the day of a big problem. So please assist ;-)
Been transfering movie files from PC to Tab via USB/MTP. The process was going fine until the last file to be copied. Then Tab lost connection. Reconnected the cable. Tried to copy the last file. Then Tab hung. Absolutely.
I disconnected USB cable and rebooted the TAB. It showed the Samsung animation, then "samsung" title, some gargabe at the bottom of the screen and .. that last forever.
Well, rebooted once again. Same situation, but screem garbage moved to top.
Well, 3rd reboot and .. whoa, eventually it booted!
But ... it asked me to introduce myself (e.g. enter e-mail, ...) and enter Google prefeences (just like with a fresh new tab). Skipped it (Hacker's keyboard was already not working - couldn't type in).
Then the desktop arrived. My God, it's absolutely brand new. All my settings and icons disappeared.
Went to Applications - they all seem to survive. But don't work. Almost all of them crash when you start them. Some very simple and built-in apps work though.
The Contacts disappear as well. Just like E-mail.
Remember I started this message with that I was transferring files? Well, they're not visible. Even their new folder is missing. But the storage is used exactly to the size of those files. All 10Gb. I tried to delete its parent folder (say, "/sdcard/Movies"). Free storage barely changed (only for the size of existing files).
Well, it's ruined. My lovely and so customized Tab. Damn.
So the very dumb questions are:
- What's that? Broken filesystem? How came? How to check/fix?
- How to save app settings (that's ALOT, include data for my kids' paid games)?
- Where Touch Wiz and other settings actually stored? I suspect there must be a system database (saw an error from "SQlite" when FBReader crashed).
Well, I could wipe everything, but not sure it would solve the filesystem problem and would take muuuuuuuuch time. And we don't have ICS rolled out for Russia yet, so that would be a very time wasting process.
p.s. Titanium backup doesn't start too. Moreover, everytime I install something it crashes again ;-)
You might try setting up your gmail account, the initial thing that you skipped. I'm just guessing, but perhaps you need the account active to use apps that might be linked to your account on the market.
Also, again, this is just a guess, but if your movies are DRM protected, is it possible you can't access because it thinks you are a different user?
Just some thoughts. Quite possibly useless, but maybe worth a shot. Good luck!
Later,
Jason
Go to settings/ apps and force stop Samsung Media Scanner... Worked on mine a while back, hopefully that will fix the problem for you... Good luck!

Something very similar happened to me when I was trying to watch a movie off of an sd card with the adapter. I ended up having to re-flash a stock image through Odin and re tweak everything (Rom, re-download apps...everything. Sucks that I lost all my progress in games etc. but it made me re-evaluate what apps I really used and needed so now it's running faster and smoother than ever. I even decided against using pershoot's overclocking kernel (for now) as everything feels so fresh and so clean, and it seems unnecessary.

Something got corrupted. It could have been app databases like you suggest. Sounds pretty reasonable. I hate to say it but you may want to hard reset and see if the issue persist. If it does persist after a hard reset then you have a defective device
Do you have a nandroid backup of your setup?

SD Card contents deleted

I have a Google Nexus 4. Most of my files on the "SD CARD" have been deleted mysteriously. I need help trying to recovery these if possible or figuring out why it happened so I can avoid it happening again and/or remove the app responsible.
I noticed the weather channel app crash multiple times and now my SD Card is more or less empty, the odd folder has survived. But all the useful stuff is gone, most of it is recoverable. A pop up box kept appearing saying the weather channel has crashed, roughly 30-40 times. I was connected to it via my laptop while browsing the contents, I was also doing the same on the phone, using the DiskUsage application to find where my space was being used.
Any help is much appreciated. The phone isn't rooted or anything and is only about a month old.
Anything. Bump.

Try the app called Diskdigger to retreive missing data from Play. Requires root.
Thank you for the suggestion but no luck.
I needed to root the phone to get it to work and I needed wipe the phone before rooting. When I eventually got around to scanning after rooting it found only the cached images of current apps. I expected as much after wiping it again. Now I've un-rooted and re-installed the stock google image. Now I have an issue with my phone not picking up time and date setting from my service provided but that's a separate issue I can deal with by manually setting the time zone. Somehow my phone thinks I'm in Ireland. I'm from there but live in Australia.
Lesson learned. Backup regularly. Thanks.

This phone has no sdcard, all the memory is integrated into one so when you wipe data you wipe all data off the phone including personal stuff.
Yep that's why it's in quotes and Capitals, "SD CARD" . The first line anyway.
The whole phone seems to be acting up a bit now. Previously, before the "SD CARD" was wiped any pictures on the "SD CARD" would appear in the gallery unless I had used a .nomedia folder or file but now it only appears to pickup pictures in the camera folder, screenshot pictures and picasa web photos. Even thought I have several other albums in the "SD CARD"/Pictures folder where the screenshots folder is.
I have the following folders on the "SD CARD"
/Pictures/Screenshots
/Pictures/FamilyPics
/Pictures/PartyPics
/Pictures/HousePics

All 113 other photos are visible when browsing the contents while the phone is connected to my laptop and when using a file browser on the phone. And I can open these pics with the Gallery app through the file explorer without any issue.
None of my videos in /Video are visible either and are accessible as with the pictures I'm having issues with.
I've tried clearing the App Cache and data and rebooting the phone but getting me nowhere.

Lag because of IndexService

I'm one of the "lucky bastards" who cancelled BBY preorder, ordered from TD and got tablet 2 days ago. When I got the tablet, I installed few applications, 2 different launchers and put an SD card from an old Note 10.1 (500 books/documents, 2Gb music, 2Gb video files). Tablet was very slow, sometimes taking 2-3 seconds to open app drawer. When in S Note, I was often getting "unfortunately IndexService has stopped". I used a task manager, checked this service, it was using most of CPU all the time. I found a thread in Note 3 forum about this service using most of battery. This seems to be a service for new S Finder. On my tablet it was scanning files all the time. I may have a corrupted file or something that it doesn't like. I moved all files from SD, service stopped crashing, lag is gone. I have started moving files back one folder at a time, hoping to find out the bad file.
If you see lag on yours, see if you have this IndexService running all the time.
Have the exact same problem on my note 3 atm. What a pain in the ass to deal with.

I'm using "SystemPanel App / Task Manager" from market, had bought it during 2.2 days, hadn't installed on any of my JB devices. I remembered about that, installed, turned on monitoring and kept an eye on top processes. I'm not saying this is the only reason for lag, but for me there was a big difference after I cleaned the SD card.
I had the same problem but I just removed my SD card let it index then when stabilized in inserted back works good so far secondly u should disable air command
try and see how it work it works very good with me after ur phone get stabilized re activate ur air command
For me the culprit was a corrupted pdf file. My Note3 was fine after I deleted that file.
Moreover I found that the indexservice process is taking more cpu and time when I have more number of pdf files i my memory card.
So, right now either you can put less number of pdf files on your device to avoid the lag or just wait till the indexing completes.
After the indexing completes, the device works as wonderfully as it was working before inserting my memory card.
Hope I helped...Cheer!!!
I also got same message.

Use "trials and errors" method, remove your files, make sure search is running fine (which means it's not running all the time nor crashing), then start adding few files/folders at a time. Time consuming of course, but I don't know any other way of doing it. I don't know if this process creates a log file with scan information, that file would be useful.

Clear cached files
If that doesnt work, assuming you are rooted clear cache and data files. TI, Rom Toolbox, others can do this. Or if you have custom recovery boot to recovery and clear in recovery.

I am using trials and errors way to detect faulty file by trying to delete few pdf files folders then restarting to check popping of "Unfortunately, IndexService has stopped" message, so after deleting few folder, that popping stop but I am not sure that problem is completely solved because battery consumption graph show that IndexService is still 2nd largest battery sucker after screen, so it must be running in background.
Sorry I'm still layment in terms of rooting & backup. But I did cleared all cache. Can you tell why I got this message- "Security policy restricts clearing off this app's cache" ? So not sure that it completely removed cache.

Im not sure unless knox is doing it. I had the same message so i cleared it in another program. I got 1.5gig back. Play has many programs that clear cache. Or you can use app section to clear chache on a app by app basis.
Good luck

There is no way to scan for the corrupt file, as far as I know. You'll just have to remove all files, and add back a few at a time, until the problem returns. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483944

After removing some complex pdf of maths, "Unfortunately, IndexService has stopped." this message has stopped popping up, but battery drain & heat up is continuously building up. I have to keep it sleep or forced to keep it shut down.
for every ON 2 Mins= 1% battery discharge & 1 degree celsius rise in battery temperature.
What a weird problem is this! I got 20-50gb of academic pdfs which I was looking forward making it pdf library, not anymore due to this idiotic Index Service which scans each & every content of pdf to build its useless search index for every default Samsung app. & gets reset after every addition or deletion of file! Ridiculous Samsung. Pls issue update to make us able to disable/enable this service. Its extremely tedious to copy paste files by batch of 10-20 files with respect to my 50gb collection.
I seems I have no option than to do this cumbersome work.:crying:

Yes, it is ridiculous. I've seen it many times. My problem was was also a corrupt pdf. I copied the contents of my sd card to my computer, and formatted the card. I then added the files a few folders, at at time, until I found the culprit.

I think those pdf with illegible font like those mathematical formulas & Indian Devanagari/Sanskrit script is consider corrupt by Index service, which cause it to crash & stop. In crashing scenarios is better than letting Index service run, because it causes heat up & battery drain by letting it run. Where as "Unfortunately, IndexService has stopped." cause it to stop completely then no heat up & battery drain.
So may be temporary solution is to crash Index service to stop it as we I don't think there any other way to stop it without getting rooting.
What you think guys...?

To the best of my knowledge, rooting is the only way to disable the service (without intentionally crashing it).

Look through the forums here for rooting instructions, then grab Titanium Backup and freeze index service, knox, sfinder and gallery. All your problems will go away!

[Q] How do you stop index service without rooting?

This is getting really annoying. It drains the battery so quickly and it doesn't seem to stop. I don't want running back up every time I open a pdf file, which I need to do very often. Does anybody know how to stop it without rooting?
EDIT: i've tried unchecking everything off the s-finder and even making a .nomedia file to no avail (although i'm not sure if i did the latter correctly). I also temporarily unmounted my sd card and placed a few pdf's in the phone memory to see if it triggers the index service and it does. Does it have something to do with adobe reader? i downloaded other (admittedly mediocre) pdf readers and they don't seem to trigger index service when i use them to open the pdf files.

One of your pdfs is corrupted. You'll have to narrow down the offending file, and remove it. The indexing service has to run, for a bit. If it never stops, then you'll see the fast battery drain, and increased heat. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46474399
Hi, I spent half a day trying to understand what was driving nuts the indexservice service (sorry for the word pun), and I'm sure I found what it was. In my case I'm absolutely sure they are a kind of PDF documents, to be more precise, if I save on the SD Card or Internal Memory this kind of PDF files (they came from the FIGC, the Italian Football Federation site), the service "indexservice" starts and never stop, nor if I delete the PDF file from the phone or card !! I have lots of other PDF file on the SD Card, even very big PDF files with more than 400 pages, and the indexservice, when I copy them on the phone, just came up, works for a few seconds, and goes away, like it supposes to work !! If I can help someone uploading one of this PDF file, let me know how and where, and I'll do it immediately
Bye and hope they will solve this problem that is a really annoying BUG !!!
