[Q] DAE have the Camara icon disappearing on applying Potatoman's Camera.apk-Mod? - Galaxy S II General

First of all: hi everyone! This is my first posting on XDA o/
ITT I have a very specific question about applying Potatoman's Camera.apk mod, but, as I'm a freshman, I'm not allowed to ask it in the proper thread. The requirement to have 10 posts before being allowed to take part in the dev forums is a little over protective imo, but well...
About the issue:
I tried to replace the original Camera.apk with the modified version as described by Potatoman in the specific thread. However, as soon as I rename the original Camera.apk into Camera.apk.bak, the Camera application icon disappears from the application list. That might not be to bad in the first place, but putting the modified .apk into the /system/apps folder does not re-create the icon. So, I can basically put the modified .apk where it belongs, but I have no way to start the application.
Also trying to install the modified Camera.apk from the /system/apps directory does not work (says "installation failed" and seems to do nothing).
I have no clue what's making the icon disappear on renaming the .apk in the first place. Also I'm not sure if it is possible to create an icon link to the modified Camera.apk manually. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Here some additional facts that might be relevant:
CF-rooted
KF2 kernel + ROM
using ES File Explorer for r/w access to /system/apps and general file handling
reboots do not help...

oops
just noticed the sticky "If your thread can be phrased as a question, it belongs in Galaxy S II Q&A".
I wasn't aware of that when I started this thread. I just saw many threads with the [Q]-tag here and put mine here as well...
@moderation: please feel free to move this over to the Q&A forum (or to close it :I)

Stock calendar/any calendar

After flashing Eugene's V9 I tried to get rid of that damn TW calendar by putting it in a temp file I created on the SD card, then put the 2 stock APK's onto the card. However, it would not install them with Root Explorer. So, I then moved them to temp, then I put the TW APK's back into system/app, that did not work (application not installed), and then on the card, but it will not install those from either place. I did click on "mounted as r/w" in Root Explorer, so that's not the problem. Can someone please give a step-by-step on what to do to fix this? I need some type of calendar, so if it's the TW one, it is what it is. I Googled and did not find anything exactly on point. I hope the answer is not "re-flash"!!!Thanks...
A guide/instructions on how to do this are in the sticky (where the title of the thread says to read before asking), as well as the files you need.... you drop them in system/app (you do not click on them and install them).

Thank you, and, my apologies. I had read the whole thing several times, but when I screwed up I didn't figure this was a common issue and did not look

[Q] Installable MIUI Camera for Hyperdroid CM7 2.1.0?

Searched around a lot, honest.
Looking for the MIUI Camera in an installable format -- tried adb push to system/app of the most recent "MIUI Camera.apk" from the Hyperdroid CM7 thread (this one), but it most definitely did not work. Reboot, etc. Nothing. Wouldn't start -- icon disappeared from the dock, too.
Restored the original Camera.apk via adb push after extracting it from the original HD-CM7 zip. So, it's not the process of installing it, it's something else.
Anyone have advice?

nope you didn't searched a lot...
I bet you didn't do the following before creating this thread:
1. did you check the permissions of the camera apk?
2. if you checked, was it rw-r-r?
3. did you delete the data file that corresponds to the app?
4. lastly, have you tried looking into themes and apps section so that you'll see this on page one of that section???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975196
1) Yes, I did.
2) Yes, it was.
3) No, wasn't aware that I needed to. Thanks for the hint.
4) I searched Themes and Apps, and found no results that suggested success directly concerning Hyperdroid. But searching, of course, is dependent on keywords and search algorithms.
Thanks for the help, and if it works, I'll be sure not to post about it.

[Q] AllShare install problem

Flashed CleanGB Rom v16 today and there is no AllShare app
After some searching I found the dlna.apk for allshare.
used ES File Explorer to place it in the system/app folder set the permission that where given in another thread
USER = READ + WRITE
GROUP = READ
OTHERS = READ
App starts but then force closes after 5 sec.
Also installed it with SDX Stock App Removal and did the same thing.
Im stuck at this point
is there any way to get it working?
I grabbed my allshare app off of this thread and it worked. It's for Deodexed Roms. I'm currently on ACS ICS 5.1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824953
From your post though, it looks as if that's the file you may have used?
yea thats the thread i was looking at
and i got the apk file from there.
anyone has any idea how to fix this?
All I did to get it to work was copy the file, and paste it into the system/apps folder with write permissions. then just reset your phone and it should have shown up in your launcher. should work since cleangb is deodexed.
where the permission the same ones i posted?
Captain obvious stand-in:
There is a Q&A subforum. This is obviously a question as your title denotes with the [Q], so try to utilize it in the future.
Make sure the file you're trying to push over fits your current rom's structure, such as odexed or deodexed. Move the file over with a file manager, like Root Explorer, and a restart may be required.
If that doesn't help you could always try using the "fix permissions" feature in CWM.

[Q] reinstall SamsungWidget_ProgramMonitor.apk

I recently used the flashable auto debloat file posted in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326002
I was a little lazy in not going thru the entire text file to see that SamsungWidget_ProgramMonitor.apk would be included in the debloat, and now I can't get it back onto my I9505.. I've pasted it back into /system/apps and changed the permissions to 777 but no luck, it doesn't show in widget's after reboot. and it won't install as a normal app (tho some do i.e video).. what can I do, and what's the cause?
p.s. the search isn't working according to a pop up I keep getting so I posted this thread instead.
hmmm.. repeating the exact same process as before worked a few moments ago.

[Q] [REQ] Modify Settings Menu i9505

Hello guys,
I recently found out that the "Kies via Wi-Fi" entry under "Settings>Connections Tab" is causing a FC to "Settings". I guess at a given time I've done something and removed/uninstalled the Kies Bloatware either by using Root Explorer or Titanium Backup, I'm not sure and I can't remember. I've tried to reinstall the "Kies Wi-Fi" app from the Google PlayStore and it did actually installed and found it working, however the nasty shortcut in Settings still causes FC-es. Is there any way to get rid of this entry at all? I don't intend using Kies at all and I'd really like to see that option gone.
I saw a thread in the Dev and Hacking section, however I'm not experienced enough to do it myself, so I ask here for help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184207
And these are the files I extracted from my device.. apparently there's no "Settings.apk" in my "/system/app" folder. But there is SecSettings.apk.....
SecSettings.apk - https://www.dropbox.com/s/pbeua595rsym22p/SecSettings.apk
framework-res.apk - https://www.dropbox.com/s/xzog2xfxnc4gsso/framework-res.apk
framework.jar - https://www.dropbox.com/s/t0xawazgheiemxg/framework.jar
framework2.jar - https://www.dropbox.com/s/mb470l2z2epu9vu/framework2.jar
I noticed that in SecSettings.pak > res > xml there is a file called connection_headers.xml which might be the key, but trying to open it with Notepad++ everything was full with meaningless weird symbols, except the 4th row which actually mention "kies via wi-fi".
I'll be very thankful if there's any way to remove this.. "thing" from my phone. I'm not familiar with ADB, but I surely can flash a .zip with CWM. :cyclops:
faily.. wrong thread.. sorry
