Chainfire3d is a let down - Galaxy S II General

Sorry guys, but after googling and posting on the official thread, I'd like to warn others regarding CF3d.
Sure it 'works', and the concept is good. But on the SGS2 the only game it will allow you to run (that you otherwise woudln't be able to run) are:
- Fruitninja THD
- Pinball THD
- Samurai HD
At 2 or 3 quids (forgot how much I paid) it's just not worth it on the SGS2 at least for now. I was expecting NOVA2, Backstab, Galaxy on fire 2, the SIms 3, etc.
I bought each only to have refund because no driver would work, and at best you get missing textures everywhere.
Avoid or stick to the free version.

You are so wrong man.
Chainfire allowed me to run star battalion and galaxy on fire 2.
Do your homework before shouting such comments.

You can play GoF2 without any glitch or missing textures whatsoever?
Edit: any of the other games I mentionned? Because I did 'my homework' and I would be more than happy to be proven wrong

Yeah Fysi has played GoF2 without issue, in fact he didn't really comment on the CF-3D part, rather on the gameplay...
Do you have all the plugins, and required shaders?

yeah...plugins is a must have item in terms of changing suitable chipset for each and every type of games......

Looks like basically there isn't a list of games that FULLY work because quite simply only 3 or 4 do.
Shame... too late for a refund, too.

I agree that there isn't a killer-app that makes Chainfire3D a requirement, but I'm happy with the investment.
The ability to tweak OpenGL settings per-app, not just Tegra games, with the texture and FSAA controls adds a lot of value for me. The plugins for individual shaders, PowerVR and Qualcomm chipsets, plus NightMode and the Market patches...
Chainfire's €2.99 isn't hard to justify here.

Games working for me on Galaxy S II, also now gives you option to force MSAA in games so it improves image quality in every game, well worth the price.
Star Battalion (qualcomm)
Racer 3D (qualcomm)
Riptide GP (nvidia + shader)
T-Racer HD (nvidia)
GOF2 (nvidia) (graphics issue)
Pinball HD (nvidia)
Fruitninja THD (nvidia)
Samurai HD (nvidia)
Guerrilla Bob THD (nvidia)(framerate issue)

Edit: So far less than 10 games confirmed to work, half with glitches. Unless you know something no one else does.

There's a fair list at http://games-chainfire.wikia.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II_i9100
If you play about with settings and whatnot, you can get a fair few to work, but some might need a shader pack installed.

[Discuss] Minecraft on Xperia Play

Can't believe this isn't here yet. Minecraft is demoed on the Xperia Play. Check it out. http://goo.gl/QCEQN
Please give me that asap I will do anything to be on that alpha list or something.
Please tell me how great this will be bellow...
I love Minecraft but personally would never play it on the Xperia Play.
Why?
Because as seen in that demo, the draw distance is really small on the Play and you NEED the draw distance when traveling at first to find your way "home" (Yes I know you can make a compass)
Also if you made your home far from your spawn and then died you'd never find your home lol
Even though it looks simple you need pretty beefy hardware to make it (My PC does no prob: i7, 5870, 12gb RAM, 1tb HDD, BR-burner) But my buddy struggles in the game on his laptop and its a dual core.
So I don't know, I just can't see it being very good really...unless they can increase the draw distance some how.
OHHH YESSS!!!! this is the best phone ever i never knew it could play minecraft this phone is the best !

Draw distance will be fine by release, trust me. There is already a Minecraft clone on the market called Minebuilder. While it's unfinished, it's still a very good representation of how the real game would run on mobile.
If I were you, I would check your buddy's laptop for spyware and the like. It seems that it's running slower than it should be. I've run minecraft with no issues on a 1.3Ghz ULV (ultra low voltage, slower) dual core processor on my HP TM2 and with integrated graphics on.

I downloaded galaxy on fire 2 THD and its definately not in HD, the graphics look absolutely gash. Is this just me being an idiot and downloading the wrong version or it not native 1280*800 resolution?

Well, the term "hard core" can go a lot of different ways. If by hard core you mean THD games or basically games that show off your tab's graphical prowess... you've got most of the top ones already. There are some nice older titles like Roboto HD that look great as well but aren't graphically as strong as games like Shadowgun or 9mm.
If you want games that look good and actually work like they're supposed to the ones I added are nice options; It really just depends on the type of games your looking for. I generally blow through 40-60 games a week and can put any others I find in the thread bsweetness suggested, thanks for that btw there were some there I haven't tried yet.
I picked up my tab 2 days after it dropped on-line, and my biggest gripe so far besides color depth has been lack of compatible games. There are a lot out there, but I was surprised at how many don't play nice with ICS or with tablets in general.
They like to tout the "power of gaming" with quad-core devices, but they don't talk about the lack of quality or compatible games do they...

That's true. The One X and One S seem to be selling well, so one can only assume that better Tegra 3 support is coming. However, aside from the One phones, how many phones are being released with a Tegra 3 SoC? Well, at least those are selling well.

I agree, great game
This game is ruined by how unbalanced it is to play, read some reviews. You need to spend a lot of real world money to get anywhere as it relies on a lot of in-app purchases.
Yupe in app purchasing just ruins the game, but then again most free games do come with a catch.

But either ways, come on guys....this is console quality graphics for your handheld with multi million dollar budgets spent on development - of course they expect to make some money back! But you do have the option if you want to spend or not If you dont think the game is worth spending, then dont! But trust me guys, with RR3....it's so damn justified!

The real problem is: Developers simple made it nicer on Apple devices. Simple fact.
I know it might sound strange for some, but that's the truth.
The current SOC of the Note 2 would be able to run this game equal to the IOS counterpart, but developers did not bother to adjust/polish/optimize the game for the top android devices.
That's very common these days

total agree with what u saying, ive been playing it for 3 days now and its incredible to be honest, some of the cars are expensive and so far ive had to redo races to get more R$ to buy a car . . but hey . . . its kept me interested, i think the only downside to this game is the fact that i dont think you can just have a proper season of racing like 16 races over X amount of laps for points etc etc . . and also you cant actually race against friends in real time multiplayer . . but other than that is brilliant! 8/10

Galaxy S4: top android or expensive stone?

Hello
Im a new owner of a Samsung galaxy S4 I9505. Im experiencing big problems in a game called Modern Combat 4, which has great graphics. Its often unplayable during multiplayer (and sometimes singleplayer) due to excessive fps drop. Naturally game is original, bought on play store, device not rooted and just booted... Why? Oo
I remember with my iphone 4s i could play Modern Combat 3 withouth any fps drop T_T
Thanks
This can perhaps be a software optimization issue. I have an ipad 3 which can play MC3 perfectly fine but MC4 is messed up with frame rate drops all the time. But then, any issues should have been fixed by now as the game has been out for like 9 months or so:what:

The game is pretty graphic intensive. I ran it on my i9505 international version rooted running AOSP with stock kernel.
Frame rates is definitely lower than what I use before (Xperia S).
I have to use SetCPU to dial up the speed and it ran much better but heats up a lot.
My gut feeling tells me that it has something to do with the stock kernel.
I'll look into it later and let you know.

About singleplayer, it doesnt lag as much, it doesnt even lag often but, for example, in the beginning of first mission (during beach assault) i get some lag, not as much as multiplayer though

I personaly xperience no lags or framedrops on NFS, Asphalt 7 and Riptide GP Pro. Maybe too many apps and widgets working in the background, hardware has its limitations

i could play asphalt 7 and nfs without any lag also on iphone 4s wich is neither paragonable to i9505
only modern combat 4 seems to be able to stress my device and give so bad performance, especially during multiplayer matches
Its Modern Combat 4 the problem not your phone... there is an actual problem in the game. it doesn't even play in 1080p anymore after the update. i've overclocked my phone like crazy and removed any thermal throttling. it still lags a lot in multiplayer. The same thing happened when i had my HTC One... I think it has to do with poor optimization for the snapdragon 600 because it doesn't seem to work well with any phone with that processor
