S8500xxkf2 - Bada Software Development

Anyone here already tried this new firmware?
what is the changes on this firmware?
thanks

i am sure there won't be any changes
the version for the middle east JPKE1 doesn't have any changes so why will be there any difference for Europe

there is difference my friend, europe was the first with bada 1.2 JL2 the other earth parts got it in late january.
This version has webkit improvements, as the new firmware for wave II and also preperations for bada 2.0, also the pop bug should be solved^^
memory management improved with dolfin.

I installed this firmware with the csc from JL2 (OXC) yesterday.
Today, I uninstalled it and reverted back to old XXJL2.
Why?
No noticeable difference. Design, speed, apps, etc are exactly the same.
No bug fix (GPS is as slow as ever, most apps don't launch e.g Thumpies, AccuWeather.com application, etc).
And lastly, "this device cannot be updated" message in kies (possibly due to use of XXJL2 csc file).

i am quiet confusing about this firmware, lariteo says that there are some improvemets on this firmware but accdg to spacks, there is no changes on this from S8500XXJL2.
it is recommendable to upgrade to this firmware or not?

@spacks excuse me but it seems that you dont even have tested it as you should, you are simple lying the people here. You should sell your device and not harm other peoples intuisazm here. One day for testing wow, that was realy long^^^in one day you cant even test dolfin itself, or not?
@pao9195 http://www.badanation.de/topic.php?t=4770&page=last#last_post
yes german users seems to be very happy with this firmware
as i read and know it from the wave firmware
- POP E-Mail Client don't download deleted Apps anymore
- Dolfin is faster
- Dolfins memory usage is now clean, after closing the app, no more fragmentation
@all if someone test a firmware he should not look at the look of the os, if the verision is the same, than there are only bugfixes and no features, it is still a 1.2 with some bugfixes.
Old apps that dont work they must the developer fix and not samsung, if they dont do that than you can throw them away, i think if i release a app than i am also responsible to update it that it works on feature os versions.
People like you are killing the devs intuisazm and i hate this, leave this section and let here only people talk that are interested in such things, as you read
NO NOOOOOOOOOBS are here allowed. And this is not a joke.

@larioteo
please I was only expressing my observations from the use of the new firmware.
My opinion is not binding on anyone. I may be right or wrong.
I don't need to test the new firmware for a year before I can find out it's pros and cons. I have been with my WAVE for a good time now to detect any slightest change from any firmware on it.
The so-called improvements in the new firmware are already existing in XXJL2.
Anyone is free to test. If you like it, keep it. If not, revert back to XXJL2 like me.
Finally, I still maintain my stand that the new firmware is no better than XXJL2. It appears to me like a mere change of name (version number).

Also facebook and twitter server problems seems to be solved^^
i think this firmware is flashable for everyone.
You should test more than a day every known bug and not only your oppiniouns, than others see if it is for they usable, ok? To say JL2 is better, according to the german forum is false^^
And for your information i got a other similar update for the wave II before two weeks, and i also had a firmware downloader and know a little bit more than you in this way, you should sometimes hear advices of others that are in this section longer and not think that you can know everything about it, how long has you tested it 2 hours?
Man you are killng my time, i have said what is improved, cause i tested it long as it should be. the users can rate who they can more trust
2 weeks against 1 day^^

thanks for that info sir lariteo, i believe in you sir, i will flash my phone to this firmware.
thanks

The most users say there that this firmware can compare to XI5 that was the best until this one.
- Surfing with 5 Tabs and 6 widget pages was possible with this firmware
a user reported that he has opened 5 youtube sites and that he has 6 widget site, and that there is no memory message, as on JL2 before.
as i said before the memory management of dolfin is much better than every firmware before.

hmm it seems that this firmware is recommended to flash.
but i think, nobody are interested on Bada 1.2 updates, instead we are all waiting for the Bada 2.0.1 update right?
a stupid question, why we update to this firmware with some bug fixes if Bada 2.0.1 is coming?
wherein we can directly upgrade our firmware to Bada 2.0.1 without going back to this firmware?
this is one of a practical reason, it is depend on the users if he want this firmware or not.

yes very interestung people cried for an bugfix of jl2 before 2.0 justin hong comfirmed it and promised it, now it is here and some says no important before 2.0, very interesting things.
They have done what many users wanted and know there are bugfixes and a never version and this should not be good?
This is the very wrong way, for they that want to use only bada this update is more than neccessary for the android porters it is nothing but not everyone wants android sone buyed the device to not have android on it think about it. and new versions should be for such people and not for bada haters, easy.
a small bugfix version is a big recommendation and not an unusual flash. if i wiuld be a samsung worker i would disable updates for all hacked devices bada should only be available for evangelist and not for haters like apple it does with new ios.

im successfully upgrade my phone to this firmware and ive noticed some changes from my old firmware S8500XXJK1:
- allow to send blank sms
- facebook have a log out option
- facebook have notification upon opening the application shown at the notification bar.
- when we long pressed some wall post on facebook, we got 3 options; like/comment/cancel or just press the "+" button, this 3 options appear.
- have a brightness settings on Dolfin Browser
I will post again if there is some changes aside from this and please note that this is based from S8500XXJK1 only, i am no longer flashed my phone to S8500XXJL2.

New Android Market for Hero?

I've actually noticed this a coupla days ago, and thought I'd look it up on the forums to see what else is new... but theres no thread so far about this. (correct me if im wrong)
(and please feel free to skip down to the ****starred paragraph)
I'm using the HTC Hero (unbranded) with the official OTA 2.1 android (unrooted, yes I know... UN-rooted)
About a week ago I had a massively slow and buggy phone. I hardly had that many apps installed, because it was so slow I was forced to download task manager to free up memory (didn't work). I got really worried after because opening ANY app like my emails would cause HTC Sense to close in the backround - and I'd have to wait about 15 seconds for it to launch again.
I just figured it was the official android 2.1 + Sense that started to bog down after time, and considered going back to the custom roms. Before I did, I remembered the number one trick in the "help manual", switch off, wait and switch back on. What do you know....it's much faster and no more lag, bugs or memory shortage! What a shame.
Now I've only just switched it off and on again, and throughout the whole time I've not updated my phone or accepted any OTA downloads or anything really... so I can only guess it's happened in the backround without consulting me.
My sister also has the same Hero 2.1 (Orange-branded) which still has the "old" Android Market.
I hate having to give my life story, and as gruelling it is for you to read, I thought I'd set out all the information just incase anyone picks up on something.
********(Now what you've been waiting for...) I've now noticed that I've got a new Android Market. Its largely the same appearance (white and green) with similar layout for the home page. The difference is the appearance of the indivual apps. The top bar will have "About" and "Comments" tabs, instead of having 3 short comments under the apps description on the same front page of the app.
I really would love to take a snapshot of the screen - but my phone is unrooted and personally never-needed/couldnt-work-out-how to root!
Now for the second, and best part. Normally, Android would notify you when there are updates for your apps, and it takes you to the "Downloads" page. This is still the same! But usually you'd have to go into each app, and press update individually. Now at the bottom of the "Downloads" page there is an "Update All" page - which does exactly what it says - update all in just one click.
If you consider the two small changes, its pretty insignificant - and I do apologise for wasting a bit of your time! But I thought I'd start a post about it incase anyone else finds anything new about the market, or if it is available on custom roms or well... anything!
Yes indeed, there is a new market for 2. 1. To bring some things into line with what 2. 2 can do. The apk is available from Modaco I think if anyone else is looking for it
EDIT..... http://android.modaco.com/content/software/319798/updated-2-2-style-market-for-android-2-1/

nook touch answer

hello, today i have receive my nook touch...
i have a question... how do i see a photo (jpg, jpeg ecc...) and read .txt? ?
and, another question... if i root my nook, at startup i can choose the normal mode (with 2 month battery) or do I keep it roored (and the battery does not last long)
Regarding rooting, once you root, it won't go back to original unless you go though the 8 failed boot attempts. But you still can use the original nook reader, social, etc.
I use astro to click on pics and txt, and it opens the proper app (or list all that are able to do so, and I can choose the one I want).
you wiil know when barnes & noble relase a new updating?
the bluetooth has some use?
I'm also waiting for some upgrade, maybe 2.2, not for flash, but for being able to download some extra software. But I haven't seen any news around about this.
Browsing through this forum, I've learned that maybe bluetooth is non-existant, it exist only in the os as a leftover from NC. Gotta wait a little bit more on that.
Perhaps I have not explained well.... i'm waiting for OFFICIAL UPDATE from barnes ad noobles(no android update)....
and one thing I never understood
if i root my nook, at startup i can choose the normal mode (with 2 month battery) or do I keep it roored (and the battery does not last long)

thanks a lot!!!!!
The official update can go in two directions:
- Apps update: better browser, fixing some problems with reader, etc., but still using Android 2.1 - Eclair (which is in use right now) or
- OS upgrade with apps update: the same as above, but also changing to Android 2.2 - Froyo, in which you have also the benefit of having some improvements over previous OS version, but may be a little slower, due do increase demand on CPU (if any), or use more battery.
Well, I haven't heard of different battery life from rooted and unrooted version, the only thing is that you may use more battery consuming apps on rooted version, as not all apps are improved to best battery life as the B&N ones.
I'm doubtful they'd go to Froyo with an update because they'd be doing everything they can, at least I hope, to make things such as battery life extensive as possible, so if Froyo is going to use more battery that's unlikely to be a method of progression on the Touch.
There is no Bluetooth on the device, the hardware just isn't there for it, the same way there's no hardware for headphones, or sound of any sort.
Rumor has it that they may be removing the browser completely in the next release, as the initial release was apparently rushed, this would mean that what little of a crappy stock browser is there would be gone completely from the device. Another method they may take with this, may be like the N1E in which the browser became official and more integrated within the system, with official support.
It's doubtful we'll see access to the app store, even though I imagine there could be several apps that could be used even with the e-ink screen. If you want some idea of what might appear or would want to give suggestions for possible update stuff with the next version check out:
http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com...sion/N2E-Wishlist-for-1-1-Update/td-p/1056104
None of it's official, but often updates will take a few things from the wish list and add them through the update.
There will be a problem updating if you've rooted. Like with the NC I'm sure that when the update comes, side-loading the update will be broken as it needs a clean /system partition to upgrade to. Also things like TouchNooter won't work until it's been updated with a newer framework.jar
but... if i rooted my nook... can i returmn to official SO? and upgrading? with this guida i can solve? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176783
what do you advise me?
why i can views and download picture but i can't views them in my microsd?
you have an advice for this? for correct heading?

Jelly Bean now on Australian devices

Received a notification this morning that my unbranded Australian Note 10.1 N8000 (CSC XSA) now has an update available. A couple of days ago the N8010 (wifi) also supposedly got the update to Jelly Bean.
Unfortunately it won't do the update yet as the battery is too low even though I have it plugged in, but I'll update as soon as it has enough charge.
OTA update successful. Device is now saying it's on Android 4.1.2.
Build number: JZO54K.N8000XXCMB1
Changes I've noticed so far:
- New blocking mode in settings - can block calls/texts at certain times of the day and can set exceptions for certain people
- Smart rotation - screen rotation now based on the angle of your face, so you can lie sideways in bed and read.
- Accounts section is totally different in settings menu - now separate accounts are listed in the top level menu
- New disclaimer and privacy policy (for the OTA update service)
- Many apps, including stock browser, email, YouTube, etc can be un-maximised and become floating windows which can be dragged around the screen. They can then be re-sized and pinned (made always on top?), This is true even for some third-party apps like Friendcaster, so it looks like it's a native Android thing rather than Samsung-specific. Unfortunately I can't find a way to make them snap to half the screen like the old split-screen mode. *EDIT - The arrow in the bottom middle of the screen brings up options to switch from the cascade to a split-screen view.*
- Browser now has page preloading (in addition to search result preloading which it already had). Can be off, wifi-only (default) or always.
- Stock email app (not gmail) is still slow and clunky. Project butter seems to have done nothing for it.
I'm sure there's lots of other great changes.
Sweet, finally!!!
I wonder though, why does it say this was released in February on Sammobile.com when we're halfway through March? Why was this not pushed out with the n8010 release?

I was wondering that too. It's possible I did miss it by a while, but that's unlikely - I have been regularly checking using OTA, Kies and on Sammobile.com. I suspect it might be backdated to the date Samsung put on the build??
Mate, I've been checking sammobile every day since the N8010 JB update was released, asked Samsung and was informed that they don't answer rom release questions, just given the usual BS about testing and getting it right for us.
I think it's a bit slack though to release a rom almost a month after it should have come out. And it's a real spit in the eye to then back date it to make it look as if it was released on time....

[BUG Report] GT-I9100 Dialer isnt correctly working / AOSP Camera Bug

Hey,
I didnt know where i should Post my Bug Report so if its the wrong section dont hold back to tell me.
I'm currently using my Galaxy S2 for daily use and after flashing some Kitkat Roms Omni is in my opinion the most stable rom and with Nova + ART a damn fast Rom, so thank you very much for supporting my Device.
I dont know whats happening the last weeks but it all began with an Opendelta Issue, i wiped all Data / Factory Reset via TWRP and flashed the Rom completely new and OpenDelta still didnt work, it just said every day its all up2date. Now after a couple of days it is working again, dont know if it was a Server Issue or something else - at the official Omni Page no one post News so i have always to guess whats happening
Currently i found 2 Bugs, if you want to call someone you open up the Dialer and then the Button for the Numbers but after clicking it, theres nothing(Screenshot is attached). You have to go back and try it again then the Numbers are there. The second Problem is that there is no Zoom in the AOSP Camera App if you record a Video. My currently workaround is the Google Camera App, there all is working fine. Also there are some Issues with Apollo , freezing , doesnt update the Song DB etc. , dont know why its so popular - its horrible. Replaced it also with a 3rd party App - Omich/Rocket Player.
The last Problem is that not everywhere in the Settings the correct language is used, if you need some translation help im sure many users would like to help(including me) but that is in my opinion nothing critical .
...and sorry if my Text was hard to read, its not my native language but im working on it :silly:
Regards
Per the FAQ, this is not the place to put bug reports.
However, I9100 hasn't been maintained in a long time, so filing a bug report will be a waste of time. Support for this device is currently going to be dropped with Android 5.0, and if it receives 4.4 bugfixes, that'll have to come from a new maintainer as none of the former maintainers have time/motivation for the Exynos 4210 devices these days.
Some of the issues you describe with Apollo aren't Apollo issues, but the result of a very deep-down core bug that has a side effect of screwing up storage access. This bug has been known for nearly a year (there's a big thread disucssing it somewhere around here...) and still no one has found a fix for the root cause. In fact, it's one of the #1 reasons the device is getting dropped for L. (It will absolutely not receive nightlies unless someone finds and corrects the root cause.)
Hey,
Thank you for your response. :good:
I reported the Bug on jira and there is a workaround for the Dialer Bug: Setting The Animator Scale higher than 0.
The Drivers are the problem right?

Well, there are three things you listed:
1) Dialer stuff - probably some sort of odd HDPI issue and/or graphics subsystem stuff. The Exynos4 graphics subsystem is why many developers don't want to ever touch the platform again.
2) Zoom in video - What resolution was Google Camera? Zoom has NEVER been available for 1080p resolutions on the Exynos 4210 family, not even stock firmware will zoom in 1080p
3) The storage issues are a symptom of a deep-down kernel bug that no one has found the root cause of. This is the #1 reason the device is getting dropped for 5.0 - there is no chance even if a new maintainer steps up that nightlies will resume until someone tracks down the root cause of this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612329 has more discussion (warning: It's long...)

YP2 Firmware RU1.1.81 (for tinkerers only)

Update: Yota did something unusual: they communicated! An employee contacted me with a request to remove the download link. He hints that an official release is not that far away anymore, and that the RU1.1.81 version in this post still has some open issues, so I decided remove the download link for now.
A little something to play with for those who are interested: Yotaphone 2 firmware 1.81 (Russian)
What is it?
- An (as of yet unreleased) yotaphone 2 firmware by Yota Devices
- still based on Lollipop 5.0
- unknown quality: My guess is beta+ quality, maybe some issues
- Russian (RU) version (hardly noticable, some russian apps, additional Cyrillic characters in dialpad of dialer), but runs fine with English language/other locales
- modem firmware is same as e.g. EU, I've had no network connectivity issues so far
- it's a full firmware, so it's not dependent on your current firmware version.
- contains from some new features, like double-tap-to-wake, new widgets and widget sizes, panels background selection, app improvements, security fixes (and who knows: some new Russian backdoors to match? )
- From Yota Devices themselves (signed).
Issues/warnings:
- for some reason unknown to me, Xposed framework won't run on recent versions. Boot never finishes with Xposed installed, the boot animation keeps playing, some background services get restarted over and over.
- This firmware has unknown quality, I've been using this one for a few hours now, looks pretty OK so far.
- If you're not comfortable using TWRP and flashing firmware images, it's probably easiest and safest to wait for an official OTA update.
- My phone showed a missed alarm this morning after having snoozed the first one, not sure if related to this firmware, but be careful not to lose your job
- <download link removed>
A detail which I may have missed until now: YotaReader in ROM 1.8x renders text in high quality (16 colors). See an example of the quality difference in this post here.
It may have been in the app for some time already, did anyone notice this? Backscreen browser does not do the same unfortunately, but at least reading ebooks is nicer now! :good:
Thanks for this dude, very exciting news. Did you get a look at any of the new features / fixes in the new firmware?
Nice that at least some people are paying attention to here ..

I mentioned some new features above, I especially like the double-tap-to-wake (better than swipe gesture) and the improved text quality in YotaReader.
In other news: Xposed (latest version: v78) seems to work again in combination with recent firmwares (it stopped working somewhere after 1.60), so that's good news too for users attached to Xposed.
