Wireless problems Qtek A9100 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hello everyone!
I have an HTC Wizard (Qtek A9100), with Windows Mobile 5. Some time ago I was able to access wireless networks without any problem, but recently I'm not getting it.
I tried to perform some procedures over the Internet without success, and for this reason the original problem gave rise to other problems, so I'll start with the problems I have now. Let's see ...
I have a wireless network in my house. This network is protected by a password (key) and this key has been defined by my local service provider. I would not change it, despite knowing how through my router settings. The key has 12 characters (letters and numbers only)
After turning on the wireless, the phone quickly detects my network, with strong signal and asks the network key. When I type 12 characters (case insensitive), the phone says that the network key is incorrect and should have 5, 10, 13 or 26 characters long, however, I had connected to my network and do not remember have had this problem. What am I doing wrong? Is there any setting that I do or check?

maybe you 'll find the answer on the same issue >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=489771

This is not the problem... And now?

alright !!
have you tried to change the registry setting..??
if not already, look at these threads

I'll test the change later...
Thanks for the tip again. I've done the change on the setting. I'm at work now and here we do not have a wireless network. I'll test on my house.
Later I'll post here the results of the change.
Stay tuned Thank you very much!

1 problem solved! Now let's to the old ones...
Hello again.
The registry change has solved my problem with passwords. Now, on my house, i can connect to the wireless network, thank you.
However, the old problem (the biggest problem i guess) is back. I'll try to explain.
I have two browsers, Opera Mini (OM) and IE and i like to use the first one. After connect to the network, I'm trying to access www.google.com, but the OM says "this address is innacessible at now". Thinking this is a OM problem i tried to use the IE and there, the effect was the same but with no error message.
Now is the interesting thing: using the IP addresses, the sites loads, but incorrectly because some internal resources on them (images, etc) does not use IPs and so there are no images, because I have no access to resources by name, only IP.
This makes me think there are a DNS problem, but the DNS is set on the Wireless router and, for example, my Wireless laptop access everything without problem. So, the issue is on my A9100 in fact.
On my Router I've set the google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4) and my computers access the Internet w/o problems by wire or not. Why my Qtek does not?
Now the question is: why my A9100 does not reach named addresses on the web, only by IP numbers?
Another day I got a message saying "not been possible to assign an IP address" for my device. Does this have something to do with the problem?

Does wifi turn on? (Does the left LED blink like it does when wifi is turned on?)
If not, then it could be related to a cingular cab - did you install any of the cabs from the original cingular extended rom?
left led does blink.
ive also gotten as far as picking up a network.
i have tried everything, i cannot get my wifi to work at all. i dont know whats up.
the settings i needed (which i replicated for the new rom) on the old rom, was this
I would select networks, MY work network, this connects to the internet.
then in the WLAN adapter i had to manual enter my dns servers.
thats pretty much it to get it to work, but now with this rom it wont
Similar or different problem? Not sure. PARTLY SOLVED!

Hi NG,
I updated my O2 XDA mini s (German) from OS 1.3.4.2 to 2.16.9.1. (Radio 02.07.10 included). To be honest, I was never really happy with the quality and reliabilty of the radio. 4 out of 5 times it did work, but once in a while, especially while roaming, it gave me a headache. After unlocking and updating to the new version, WLAN looks to be working quite well, at least for connecting to access points, but it seems that it can't browse external websites. VXutils give back a socket error trying to access external (outside my home network) websites/Email.
Internal (inside my home network) connections work like a charm. Termincal Services client accesses my Win2003 Server no problem and I can also connect to a website hosted on my internal server. (http://servername:port).
Whenever I try to connect to external sources, the browser stops afer not successfully "locating" the respective server. On the other hand locating might not be the problem. Performing a ping to an external site with VXutils properly picks up the right ip address but cannot send/receive ping!
GPRS works as supposed. Can connect to sites with no problem.
May be somebody experiences the same problem or, even better, has a solution.
By the way I used @Work for all possible settings. The work profile is set up for both connection types.
Besides that, the new rom is really nice
EDIT Well after some time playing around, I have solved the problem or better the problem partly disapeared. In 'Settings' 'Network Adapters' I switched from Use server-assigned IP address to manual and entered IP, DNS, Gateway, etc. With these settings it everything worked after a soft-reset. Going back to DHCP and soft-reset, it first worked an now it doesn't anymore. At least there is a work around and I'm trying now some other things. All machines currently work with the DHCP settings correct. I will check and keep you updated if the problems comes from Server settings or from something in the PDA EDIT

Danrw. Concerning the registry settings, after patching the os I did change the registry settings. One already existed with the right value as shown in the 802.11g thread. The other one, DotG, I added.
After that, it did pick up a only G router!
As far as setting DNS manually. It is not enough to just cange the dns setting. You have to enter all the information and even after a soft-reset it takes some time to have the settings picked up... Use vxUTIL 'Info'-Screen to check the current settings. I did test wlan before and after applying packages from the extended rom. No change on reliability or performance on WLAN IMHO.
As far as I understand. Your problem is actually connecting to the router/Access Point. For testing please disable all security on your router and do a soft-reset before trying to access. Also since we have heard of several problems with model 9100 not realizing if an access point is available or not. Also change the SSID of your router and if possible the MAC Address of the router.
Don't forget to soft-reset and first try SDIO Adapter inyour pda with auto IP/DNS/etc. settings.
Another thought. Embarassing, but once I messed around with trying to get a new pda online and forgot to disable the mac filter settings in the router, which resulted in being able to see the active router but it didn't let me connect. After those two days I was missing a lot of hair.
Good luck

I did but only the minimum. I trimmed down their install to the basics. I narrowed it down to one of two CABs. Either the gprsstall or EnableEONS. I didn't install either of those and I"m now back up and running. Of course, I still can't get it to prefer WiFi to EDGE.
I had experienced the same problem with home wifi network after upgrading my rom. I saw in my laptop that the key was set to 2. I went to the network cards, clicked on my wifi network, and under Network Key swithed the value from 1 to 2. I can now connect to my wifi network at home.

I do not know if my solution will work for you because I upgraded my rom to 2.16 but lets give it a try. I use d-link DI-524 wifi router. Start menu > Settings > Connections (tab) > Network Cards [I must admit earlier today when I was trying to connect my k-jam to the wifi, I did get as far as it asking me for my authentication code and afterwards it timed-out] --> select your wifi network [at this moment as I'm trying this out my wifi on my k-jam is off] --> Network Key (tab) > it was the key index that I had to change from 1 to 2. Before doing this though, go to your router's wireless configuration page through your webbrowser and make sure the keyX (it looks for d-link this can be from key1 to key4 or at least on mine) and make sure the key index you select on your mda is the same number that is used on your router for code authentication.
Also I noticed after resetting my k-jam that I could get connected to my wifi but I could not surf, in wifi setting on my k-jam I had to hit renew ip and then I was able to surf.
I hope this works for you. Good luck and many late nights.
no luck with this for me
even tried removing wep all together. tried multiple routers.
i can detect the ssid's, but i cant connect to them. times out on the connect.
Mine worked no problem...you may already have had this suggestion but here was my process.
Unlocked with lokwiz
Upgraded
Reset before extended ROM apps installed
Installed total commander
deleted extended ROM
Upgraded again
i re-installed the CINGULAR ROM and WiFi works like a charm
......any clues?
Here's what I ended up finding out for mine. First, at the time I wrote this, I was running the 2.16 ROM. Now I'm running the 2.17, but the fix is the same with either.
Don't load the cingular add-ins GPRSSTALL or EONS. I narrowed it down to those two that were causing the issue. So, the only ones I install now are CingularMMSAccount, EdgeIcon, TimeStyle, WiFiRate4, and SmartDialingEnable. Thats it, and its all I've seen to be necessary from Cingular's little bundle 'o fun. Everything else I haven't found interferes with my ability to use the phone at all.
Hope this helps...

HD2 Suddenly Wont Load Pages Via Wifi

Hey guys, my hd2 was working fine connection wise using 3g or wifi but a couple of hours ago, whilst connected to my wifi network I cannot load any pages using opera or internet explorer. There is nothing wrong with the wifi network as im using it now on my pc to type this message,
The wierdest thing is, I can still browse the router config page by typing the router ip address into opera (192.168.1.1) etc. But when I go to any external page I get the error: "could not locate remote server"
Has anyone ever come accross this before?
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Ive already deleted the network from the hd2 and added it again but im getting the same thing. Ive also done a soft reset but still the same
Sorry, have no solution .. just want to report that I am having the exact same problem. WiFi connects, but no web pages can be loaded ... Any hint is welcome.
Can you guys check what IP-adress you have during this error?
You find the IP-adress by going to ConnManager -> WLAN-> Advanced -> Advanced (I have swedish rom so I might have translated the titles wrong).

For me, I can tell that I have an IP (169.254.248.92) which is not in the address range of my router. I suspect it is an IP of my mobile operator, from the GSM/UMTS connection the HD2 had before WiFi was connected.
i have ip 192.168.1.1
my router ip is 192.168.1.254
i just managed to get this problem sorted. i looked at the settings for my wireless adapter and for some reason the ip address was configjred fo 192 168 1 1. i changed it to auto and eveything is working fine now. i should have suspected this earlier but as i didnt change any settings i just ruled it out

In my phone.

Hi, I just had the same problem and I thought I was going to have to do a hard reset until I found this thread. This site is great - answers for everything.
How I did it:
- go to settings
- menu at the bottom right
- more
This brings you to what I think are the Windows mobile settings.
- Connections ( or similar)
- WLAN
-Wireless network ( the upper box)
- tab at bottom for network cards
-there are 2 802.11 adapters listed. Check both and make sure the IP address is given by the server.
Sorry if some of the descriptions may be wrong above but I have the German version.
It worked for me so good luck.
Why it happened? - no idea. Anybody any ideas how to stop it from happening again?
Think I might have the same issue
IP adress might not be correct.
However I have to confess (with humility) that I did not manage to see what was the IP adress configured on my HD2.
Can someone kindly give me some details on how to do this ?
This rubbish is starting to drive me crazy and my wife is just having fun because her iPhone connected immediately....
Can't let her win...
Changing settings on both network adapters worked for me, tnx
ROM: 1.48.479.1
Many thanks folks I had the same issue.
Thanks - worked for me too. I found I had to power down and restart in order for the changes to take effect. I also suspect that it may have been my mobile provider that knackered it as it was working fine prior to my previous mobile number being ported - it went bandy the day that the number was ported and they sent through some updates........which was nice!
So I think I figured out what is causing this at least on my end. I had the same issue and the solution on this thread worked. What I noticed in mind was that when I turned on WiFi sharing (not available with the TMobile version HD2, I had to install it myself), it automatically sets the Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Adapter to use specific IP address. I'm assuming this is normal in order for other devices to find an IP address to connect to it. Once its turned off, it does not reset it back to Use server-assigned IP address. Pretty annoying. If anyone knows where I can find a .cab file for the wifi sharing program that does this let me know. Either what, this is what I noticed on my device. Might not be the case for everyone. Hope this helps.

How do you do that because i have the same ip but cannot change it.

Wifi problems

Hi! Sorry for this message, but I really didn't find a topic that would answer my question. My phone shows that the wifi is connected to my home network, but I can't acces any internet pages, or even update weather. My laptop which is also connected to the home wifi is working properly. I just recieved my phone from the servis, I explained the problem with the wifi, and they said that it should work OK, and that there is no problem with the hard or softwear!! I would appreciate any help from you guys. Many thanks!

The issue is probably in your connection settings, Settings\Connections\Connections\Advanced\Select Networks.
Can't tell who your provider is so can't help you from there.
My provider is SIMOBIL. But why should my problem with wifi connection be connected to my provider? Isn't wifi totally seperated from that? Cause my SIMOBIL network works just fine, it's the wifi that says it's connected and doesn't work at all. Thanks!!
Make sure that your IP and DNS settings are correct in the D2. Also any encryption as well.
Are you connecting to a router? If so, make sure your security settings are correct, and allow the D2 to access the internet, ie, allowing the MAC address.
I need to enter my MAC address in my router and can't find it on my TD2 (model T5358) and my manual is only in Chinese, so that's no help. I searched "MAC Address" in the topaz fourm but didn't see the path to follow to find it. If you know how to find it, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

i experience the same thing, but after i change the router WEP encryption key from hexadecimal input back to character input, it works flawlessly. think phone just not support hexadecimal encrype key??
Try to set the Power Management slider to Best Performance in the wifi section. I experienced that some ROMs need to be set like that to work, otherwise the symptoms are like yours: phone "looks" connected but no traffic is going on..
What protocol/standard is your wifi?
I have notice that since I replaced my wireless G router with an N router (same brand - D-Link), that my connection only lasts for a few seconds while I'm active. After a minute, or any delay in activity, my connection is invalid and I get 404 errors. I had no trouble surfing for hours before, and my laptop seems fine, so I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting.

Cant connect to WIFI on college.

Hello Everybody. I'm in the situation that i live at college. To connect to the internet, we have to write a username and password in a webbrowser, and then we are online. If i do not log in, i will only have permission to my own little network.
My problem is now:
When i try to log on to my access point through WIFI on my LEO(hd2), its like rejecting the connection and says the password is wrong. But it works fine with my laptap and even with my old iPhone 3g... So wtf is wrong with the HTC phones? Actually i also tried to use my brothers HTC DIAMOND 2 which is also running with windows mobile 6.5, and he had the same problem. "No access to my WIFI " I have tried to change my AP hardware to some other brand, but still same problem.
Another thing is that the HD2's wifi works fine at places where i dont have to log in first to get online. (Example at my parents)
So what can be wrong? The fact is that my laptap and old iphone works fine on my wifi network. They will log on to the network(without being on the internet) and after i have opened the browser and entered the username and password, im online.
I'm a bit screwed, because i want it to work, but i have no solution.. :S Why can i log on to the wifi with my laptap and iphone but not the HD2?
Please help.
Best regards.

Do you know what security is used at ur college wifi ?
At our office we used highest wpa2 enterprise security which needs username\password to log on to network. So please check settings in ur laptop and iphone ... u may need to disable certificate check in registry.
After couple of days troublshooting what worked in my Touch Viva windows 6.1 , Try this
1, Add Dword with some registry editor (search forum for how to edit registry)
HKLM\Comm\EAP\Extension\25\ValidateServerCert=dword:00000000
2, I went into Settings > Connections (tab) > Wi-Fi > Network Adapters (Tab)
> and selected "NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver" and I had to set a static IP configuration in the NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver's settings before it would work, Dont worry it will assign ip address by DHCP even then
ok
Okay, i will try that later thanks.
to rathule
its not my college wifi, its my own AP and wifi, which is connceted with a cable in the wall.

ok but u mentioned 'Cant connect to WIFI on college' . So i believe the accesspoint is managed by sombody else. Even then try the above settings.

ohh ok then do the following.
1-set manual ip address of ur network in NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver. then try to connect.
2-set ur wifi from saving to best performance in HD2 (u can change later on)
3-Identify what settings have u set on ur wifi router ? if it something like wpa then change add dwod in registry as sid above.
4-Create a wifi profile manually in ur Hd2
what i do in my college here is go to the help desck or IT office in your college and regester your HD2 " ID" or i think it called IMEI
because what i think is your college blocked you

Help! Optimus Hub does not connect to WiFi!

Hello, I'm in trouble with a brand new Optimus Hub (TIM branded) with Android 2.3.4.
I'm trying to make it connect to my home WiFi (WPA2, no SSID broadcast, 64 char password, Mac address whitelist).
I'm pretty sure I put the correct password and also tried turning SSID broadcast on, but it never connects to my network, without any error message.
This night I'll try different things (short password, no WPA and so on), but do you know of any issue about WiFi connections? Would a wrong password trigger an error message?
Any know LG update about this?
Thank you!!
You're on the right track. Don't forget to turn off the mac whitelist as well.

I found the password is the problem.
First: I have a 63 chars password, but OH only try to connect with at most 62 chars! Otherwise it not even tries to connect!
Second: there must be some char that it cannot handle properly (I suspect it to be space); with a simple password, it works, with the first 15 chars of my password it always says password wrong.
I'll try to find out what's the offending char, but I'll first check for an LG update to see if it fixes the problem.
Unfortunately there is no consistency in password implementation across vendors of phones OR networking gear. Even SSIDs are not standardized. I can use special characters in some equipment and not others. Everybody either thinks they know better or they can save a couple pennies. Glad you found the culprit.
