[Stock] [UCKF1][06/29/11] UCKF1 No Bootloaders! 1 click or Full Odin Back To Stock GB - Captivate Android Development

I am not responsible for any damage to your phone, computer, home, girlfriend or family pet. By using this, you release the creator from any liability.
I would like to thank icezar1 for his help with this project. I could not have done this without him.
I decided to start this thread because I saw several roms saying "flash back to stock Gingerbread", but they usually involved bootloaders, increasing your chance of bricking your phone. I searched and the closest thing I found to a safer way was a group of stock I9000 roms, but they were deodexed and zip aligned. Since we are using Captivates, I really wanted something designed for our phones, so I made this.
This is stock UCKF1, without bootloaders or a pit. I repackaged the rom (minus bootloaders/pit) into 1 file. The original firmware was downloaded from samfirmware.com. Also, I have tested this on my (only) phone, and it works.
The 3 file version was also downloaded from samfirmware.com. It is the exact same as stock, but it doesn't have bootloaders or a pit. I also tested this package on my (only) phone, and it works.
You will need 7zip to unpack the file. If you need 7zip, you can get it here.
If you haven't already upgraded to the new I897 Gingerbread bootloaders, you can get those >>HERE<<.
Stock UCKF1 No Bootloaders
Odin 3 File No Bootloaders
In the past, some phones have not responded well to 1 click flashes. If your phone is one of those, please don't use this. Use the 3 File version for Odin 1.8x.
Please make sure that your usb cable is plugged into a port in the back of the computer (#1 port on a laptop).
You will lose root by flashing this.
You will lose CWM by flashing this.
This is a wipe package, so don't forget to backup.
Instructions
0 Optional Reboot computer before beginning
0 Optional Convert to rfs (if on ext4)
0 Optional Wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, clear Voltage Setting(if overclocked/undervolted), do a factory reset.
0 Optional Remove sim card and external sd
Download package
Extract with 7zip
Open One click or Odin 1.81
**place files in corresponding slots for odin 3 file only**
Put phone into DL mode
Check to see Odin recognizes phone (you will see the yellow box)
Click Start

I don't think there is a deodex/zipaligned KF1 out there yet. Some of the other folks in the stock thread (last i heard) were having problems with the deodexing. I really did this just as a flash to stock method before flashing a rom.

This is also a one click, but it doesn't have bootloaders (boot.bin and sbl.bin). Since bootloaders will cause a permanent brick, i thought it was kinda foolish to flash them just to return to stock before flashing a rom.

Only if you have the KF1 GB bootloaders already installed.

If i used the regular stock kf1 1click w/ bootloaders and then flashed cog5 and then used the regular stock kf1 1click w/ bootloaders to go back to stock kf1 would i brick? Since they are the same bootloader?

No, you wouldn't brick, unless something interrupts the bootloader flashing process.
The whole point of this 1-click with no bootloaders is to be able to flash to stock without running the risk of bricking your phone from a bad flash. There is no way to truly brick your phone with this 1-click since the bootloaders are never touched.
With that said, you should only use this 1-click if you have already flashed the KF1 bootloaders at least once before.

ok thanks i didnt think it would brick

Nice, a I897UCKF1 Odin-1-Click Gingerbread flash to stock with no bootloaders.
No more flashing to Eclair for a fresh start. I like it.
Great idea,

Thanks. I've been thinking about doing a 3 file one for odin, too. Some people have phones that don't like one clicks.

And some of us prefer to use heimdall, so 3 file would be great.

It may very well be posted in another thread (stock kernel as Odin3, that is) but it seems like quite a few people that use Odin3 can no longer receive OTA updates. Many of us are getting failures at 50% after using Odin3.

With the number of people getting bricked phones with the OTA why would anyone be crazy enough to do it? We've already had JH7 for weeks over here. When you Odin one click have you removed ClockworkMod or Voodoo folders from your root before attempting OTA? Odin won't touch anything that is on your internal sd. You should move those files to a safe place on either your external sd or your computer. I don't think anyone with fails has tried removing the items from their root before OTA. I did see a post somewhere that someone did and the OTA worked.
That's not true at all. Quite a few people flash Odin and IMMEDIATELY try the update, no modifacations from stock, only to have it fail. Myself included.

Well the OTA update JH7 is much different than the one leaked on samsungfirmwares. Prolly half the files have different md5 checksums, so there's a lot different.

Thats what I did. I did odin3 one click, then immediately downloaded the OTA update and it crashed at 50%.
Hopefully somebody will be able to get the OTA update and then make it into an update.zip that we can just flash via recovery. The OTA JH7 is much different from the leaked JH7 on samsungfirmwares.

Same here. Pretty disappointing. . . .

Any brave volunteers?

I have built a Froyo ROM from source. I got the Captivate vendor files from Krylon360 over at Cyanogen, updated them, and built a ROM. I was able to get the leaked Froyo Captivate system.img and extract it so I could get the files required for our device. The ROM build cleanly and I was able to restore it to my device but since I have an Eclair kernel it will not boot. I actually read later in a forum that an Eclair kernel won't boot a Froyo system.
Anyway, I am looking for anyone who has a Captivate with the leaked Froyo build installed to try and restore my ROM. It will not brick your phone, I promise. I took a Nandroid backup before restoring and when I saw why it wasn't booting in logcat I booted into recovery and restored my last backup.
I just want to see if this guy will boot properly with a Froyo kernel and also see if I have all the device drivers working, etc.
Thanks!
Just replied to your other post Let's do this!
Sounds pretty awesome, but why didn't you just flash a Froyo kernel on your phone? Upload it and post up a link so we can see what you have.

He's not running windows and therefore can't use ODIN to swap kernels.
I was planning on flashing to Cog beta 8 today anyway.... I can give it a try.
Flashing requires Odin which requires Windows which I do not have.
I will post a dropbox link in a few minutes.
I built without kernel so if the ramdisk.img gives you grief, exclude it from the backup and also remove it from nandroid.md5.
In fact you should only need to restore system.img.
Just saw the above post...I'll be anxiously awaiting the link.
Thanks, guys. Remember, I am doing this for ALL OF US.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6995251/full_captivate.tgz
Like I said, you should only need system.img. So basically, edit nandroid.md5 and strip out the checksums for the other two files. Then copy nandroid.md5 and system.img to your recovery directory. Mine is /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
Report back what you find.
If you have the sdk installed, please use adb logcat to get me any details. I am working with a couple of guys who work on both Cyanogen and Cognition to hash the details out. Like I said, I got all the hardware-specific files dialed in so we should be okay.
downloading now and will give it a shot..i have a test captivate so I dont mind bricking it.

Thanks. I wanted to go the AOSP route because I think what happens is.. People are modding the factory carrier images but you don't always know what's in there and can end up with crap you don't need. Plus, this is the latest 2.2.1 from AOSP.

You can swap kernels using redbend if you have 2e recovery (which he should considering that he is on Eclair). You can also flash using the open source alternative to Odin that is available here.
Any screenshots?
What are the specs of this Rom? Is it completely AOSP?

[Q] An update.zip to go from DK28 to DI18?

(sorry if this has been covered in other threads, I searched and couldn't find it)
I found it on androidforums listed as a modified update.zip to bring DK28 phones back to DI18, but I'm not sure what it actually does. It's only 5mb, not ~100mb like the DK28 update.zip
Does anyone have an experience with it?

I believe the first link on there, you can attempt to try renaming it update.zip. Im not sure if it works without clockwork tho.. Give it a shot the worst thing that can happen is it will say aborted and wont mess up anything.
I'll give it a shot. Does it completely wipe the phone like Odin, or just change the firmware?

I think it just changes the firmware, i dont think it wipes anything, ive been flashing around roms on 2.1 and flash back to stock a lot and i never lose my data even when i wipe it..
Alternatively, is there a way to get Clockworkmod Recovery onto my DK28 phone?

besides the one click root, with clockwork, i dont think so, besides the long adb commands, which i dont know where that post is at but thats a lot of work.... But if you put clockwork on you can take it off with a simple flash of the samsung recovery zip also in the link above.
Thanks for the info.
Why is it so much more complicated to roll back than it is to go forward to a new version?

Well, not really complicated, just a few things you have flash to remove all the rooted stuff, if you use odin its still a lot of steps and more risky of bricking, i constantly see, new threads of people using odin by not following all the instructions and bricking there devices.
That's why I'm really hoping I can avoid having to use Odin to go to DI18 to get the official OTA update next week.

Dude, just look for the stock DI18 rom, rename it to update.zip, boot into recovery and flash it. That's all. I've done this several times before (although i'm now on a solid 2.2 Froyo rom).
It's a full rom, not a 5MB whatever..
It's that easy, and I don't clockwork recovery or anything?
Why does anyone bother with Odin then?

If you are on CM7 or MIUI, you must flash a stock rom with Odin + pit/repartition in order to restore the partitions to Samsung's BML instead of the MTD layout used in CM7.
I think this request is a great idea although I'm not sure it it's possible.

I take no responsibility if your phone becomes a brick. You should be fully aware of all risks associated with flashing a rom with bootloaders prior to flashing this.
If you are currently using a lagfix you should convert back to rfs prior to flashing just to be safe.

The reason I asked the question is some new folks might see your post and follow the directions without flashing the ROM first. Might want to put something in the OP stating people must be on stock KF1.
Its Rooted now looks like im gonna have to give it a try.....

Yes you can. Just remember you're flashing bootloaders so you run the risk of hard bricking your device.

It's the same risk thats envolved when using the odin 1-click to stock eclair. As long as your power doesn't go out or the mean magic mushroom people don't disconnect your phone in the middle of your phone flashing the bootloaders you'll be fine.
That was quick!
Wolf,
Nicely done sir, Fugu worked!
Would now be a good time to talk about 3 button fix and GB bootloaders?

We have yet to see if there are any issues with the new GB builds disabling the 3 button combo. And about the bootloaders as I said earlier

When I flash bootloaders, I use a laptop with a fully charged battery, and after I hit start I step at least 5ft away from it.

I was thinking of the people flashing back to eclair bootloaders with the other one click.

I actually did this when testing the 1-click. Flashed to eclair stock then used the GB 1-click and then rooted with the fugu kernel swap.
first of all, thank you wolf.
just a quick Q, based on your previous post, flashing back to JF6 is not required? i'm currently on S7, was wondering if i can flash your 1click on top of it. thanks

I have not tested flashing from one of the I9000 roms using this 1-click. This is a full wipe rom with bootloaders so it should work, but don't hold me to it. I would suggest flashing JF6 first just to be safe.
