Galaxy SII Plus Coming Soon? - Galaxy S II General

We received a bunch of e-mails from credible sources living in Asia that Samsung is planning to launch the next version of its popular Samsung Galaxy S II that will surely challenge the upcoming iPhone 5.
According to the note, the phone could use the “Galaxy S II Plus” branding, because the specs of the phone is not far from the current version of the Galaxy S II. The Galaxy S II Plus might include 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM, and Android 2.3.4 with custom user interface courtesy of Samsung’s popular TouchWiz UI. Another source also added that the phone will arrive in August or September.

Seems a little weird to me. To de-throne their flagship phone within mere months? Even if it doesn't carry the Galaxy name something just doesn't figure here. Other news sites have reported that it's an identical device simply with the processor boosted and that this boost may/may not come to the current S2. Interesting none the less.
Edit: My bad, I've clearly gone blind and missed the current thread

I think it might carry a NFC chip with it..

And those of us in the States are still empty-handed.

Here in the netherlands already for sale.
Cheers

Its cause they want to compete with the Iphone 5 ... simples

are we really going to notice much difference from 1.2 to 1.4? If all the specs stay the same and all they do is upgrade it to 1.4 I will be sticking with the SG2.
On the other hand I don't get why they would do that, is .2ghz really going to stop people from buying the SG2 over the Iphone 5?

All I can say is: This would piss me off. Having just forked out $750 just to have an SGII in the U.S., I'd be pissed if they suddenly had a slightly better model before the SGII was even available in the U.S.
The SGII is the fastest phone on the market right now and it does a lot of stuff the iPhone doesn't (DNLA, Kies Air, real multitasking, etc.). There's really no need to make it faster just to try and compete. Even if Apple brings it hardware-wise, it's still going to be the same old stale iOS that I have grown bored with. A little lipstick on the notification system and some twitter integration won't change that.

i'd stick to SGS2 instead, more people using, more customizable, more roms, more kernels. And the phone is almost the same, if not the same.

On top of that the S2 Plus CPU and GPU are not as good as the normal S2's Exynos4210.

so old a topic

forget S2 plus.... The S2 is the best android phone in the world
the dual core, 1gb ram, 4.3" screen, it´s enough the all apps and stuff :good:
after my current S2, i will buy another one....

Galaxy S II or wait for Atrix ?!

As all of you know the Atrix is only available in US & Canada and most of the rumors point to may/june release date .
Today i read at gsmarena that the Galaxy S II will be supporting a 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor ! .Then i looked at the specifications and they were pretty much attractive like the 4.3 SAMOLED+ screen , the 32 GB memory and the 8 MP camera !
What really made me go through the phase of confusion is that the Galaxy S II is coming to europe this month or the beginning of may
My question is if you were in my situation what will you choose and does the atrix deserve all the waiting ?
The atrix is good, and has its quirks, but so does every phone. All the problems of the atrix are well-known.
As for the galaxy s2, may I remind you of a little incident with the last generation? Specifically something pertaining to GPS?
XD

I do remember it , actually my sister is suffering from this problem right now along with some other problems like the filing system .
The problem is that i'm waiting for the atrix for a pretty long time and i read a lot of articles about impressions and reviews for the device so you know that a man in my position well have his doubts , especially when i still haven't got a try of the device.

Dude.. I think the Samoled screens are incredible when it comes to color *but the reality is they look all nice just because all the color is oversaturated*.
Resolution will be same old crap, phone will be thin but with a crappy finish.
Now the the real real real thing you must think about... Samsung has crappy quality control. Guaranteed. I urge everyone who reads this to look up i9000m corrupt SD in google and you will find the polls here on XDA on the ridiculousness of the lack of interest from Samsung to do anything and even admit a mistake... and B, their way of addressing this so called "issue" after 7 months post release.
If you want to know the horror stories i had to live with the i9000 and how finally after my 3rd phone died, i simply decided to go out and buy a new one... just ask and I'll tell you more
500 bucks down the drain and eventually, I managed to get it to boot a semi working filesystem. It chewed up one brand new SD card, gg.. and now i gave it to my wife because all it does is look pretty and make calls.. also lets not even mention their horrible commitment to updates and more importantly their crappy choice in filesystems (related specifically to the i9000).
By the way, in case you do not know. The i9000 is the Original Galaxy S..
Yeah, people can ***** about motorola all they want, I'll NEVER be buying samsung again..
PS: Most people say the Nexus S redeemed samsung, but its a pretty known fact, google set the spec sheet and phone workes great because its an i9000 with all the quirks already ironed out and of course running AOSP gingerbread.
yeah... GG

I enjoy my atrix very much. Even with the locked bootloader the psuedo roms are working fine until we get that bad boy decrypted!

it really depends if the galaxy s2 will have the same problems as the original. the two main problems i had with the phone that made me sold it was the gps never working right and not very accurate when it does. The other is reception/deathgrip i mostly use my phone in a low reception area, 2-3 bars at best, and every time i pick it up it would always drop down to 1 bar or edge and would constantly drop calls. I couldn;t make a call longer than 5 mins before it would be dropped if im in a low reception area.
all the problems with teh atrix is pretty minor compared to these imo. if samsung fixed these problems and super amoled plus screen is as good and some are saying then i will consider it, it was nice to have all those roms and mods(assuming the bootloader can be cracked)
im also skeptical on the build quality. all teh galaxy s phones felt pretty cheap with teh captivate being the best of the worst...
I suggest you Galaxy S2 while Atrix is now a troubles maker by many issues.

"Troubles" Like what?
I see a couple of Wifi posts and the lag seems to be fixed by launcher pro?
What other troubles?...
My Atrix is being returned to AT&T in about 10 days. I'm hoping to get a SGSII.
If I was in your position, I would wait till I could play with both of them. Because I like to do a lot of web browsing and text related stuff, I almost always choose the phone that has the higher pixel density and/or higher resolution. It just makes reading small text so much more pleasant.
I guess this only matters to people with sharp eyes, who like reading small text though.

I thank you there, for our daily lesson in grammer.
Stay away from samsung android phones. Samsung can help very screw up the os. I had a galaxy s and bought an atrix out of pocket, best thing i ever did.
Samsung lured to us about when they would update to 2.2 for 6 months. And their android ui is very ham fisted. Don't go samsung.
Does the Galaxy S ll have a Nvidia Tegra dualcore processor? No. LOL. But Cyanogenmod would be really nice to have. And I know it will get it. Oh well.

This post is an example of a fail Chinese to English translation.
It won't be long after release for us to know whether GPS works well on the SGS2 or not, and whether the phone has any other quirks. Things like this, such as Atrix touch and other issues only take days to come to light on XDA. (The touch issue would really piss me off, I hope they fix that for Atrix owners soon, too bad Bell will delay any fix for months like they do any update).
I'm satisfied with resolution of the i9000m SD defect in my case. They repaired it, it works now end of story. I have doubts about how you managed to kill 3 i9000's that don't even really have reported hardware issues...(or did you you say the $500 was down the drain but you managed to get it working again?) With an unlocked bootloader comes great responsibility.
The major upgrade with samoled+ on SGSII is that it is RGB, no longer pentile. Hardly 'same old resolution' when it will now have double the Red/Blue subpixels with full 800x480. Compared to qHD RGBW pentile it will have ~10% more total subpixels and 48% more R/G/B subpixels (since it only has 480x270).
The thing that will keep my away from pentile in the future is how crappy solid primary or almost-primary colours (just R/B in SGS case) look with effectively half the resolution.

Samsung Galaxy Note DO NOT DO

Ok I have an infuse (using Inspire now until replacement comes in) and I have seen a galaxy note, read specs and seen... I don't know why so many are jumping ship... It is just a bigger screen really, already with GB... Not a true upgrade at all, just a way to get a few hundred dollars out of people.... That's why many devices wont get true updates because people will always act like the slightest change is the biggest upgrade when it isn't.... Im just saying people be smart and wait for a TRUE BLUE UPGRADE and not just an overblown phone
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
how is it not considered an upgrade? it has a dual core processor, and a gigabyte of memory... not to mention almost double the battery. plus all the features the S pen provides over normal touch screen. you may as well have just condemned all the current galaxy s2 devices because they arent TRUE BLUE upgrades.. wtf mate
oh ya, those devices should also be getting ICS, which so many people are looking forward to
if you dont like it, dont buy it bro. different strokes for different folks
^+1
The note is definitely an upgrade hardware wise. That being said it doesn't interest me at all because there is no way a 5.3" screen phone will fit comfortably in my pants pocket. The infuse is boarderline, most of the time it is fine but sometimes it is just annoying in my pocket.

A complete waste of an upgrade due to phones coming out with 2gb of ram and Quad Cores. Why jump the boat on Dual Core and 1gb of ram? A complete waste for those just wanting the phone for the big screen.
im waiting to see what coming form the Sgs 3 or htc leaked quad core phone before upgrading
Some of us want the bigger screen. I've gone from flip phones, to the iphone, to the Infuse all in search of the biggest screen...and the Note will be the king of the biggies for awhile. Sorry, but the Infuse is an antique in comparison. Not fitting in a pocket is the least of our concerns and no reason to create a thread to DO NOT DO. Find a better reason to bad mouth the new bad boy.

just out of curiosity, what manufacturer has announced that they will be releasing a phone with a quad core processor and 2 gigabytes of ram? I've seen a lot of user talk regarding devices with these specs, but no actual official info from manufacturers.
Just because something better will come out in the future doesn't make the current best obsolete.

I like Samsung phones - especially their audio... but my next phone wont be one. Can't trust Samsung to keep their commitments in a timely manner.
The screen is too big. My phone is always in my pocket and that big of a phone would not be good for a person like me that does manual labor all day. Its personal preference.

I guess you don't read much do you? Samsung has already jumped the ship into making a Quad core 2gb ram phone......What is it? Samsung Galaxy S3, When can we expect it? Probably in another 3 to 4 months, those that can't wait and wanna jump the boat for a Note go right ahead, And if these specs do become official, then it's gonna make your Note look bad. They were saying the S3 would have a beast battery that would last longer than normal giving us more of a benefit for those who constantly use their phone but Hey That's you! Keep in mind better **** is coming....... Just relax!
I honestly don't see how it's not a real upgrade.
The Infuse has gotten me through without problems for most of my daily tasks. However, it does freeze up rather frequently, lags, and also has some issues now and then with stuttering and resetting itself (or just turning off).
I'm not saying the Note (or Galaxy SII) don't do those things, but I feel like they should do them less. Yeah, I know I can flash a custom ROM and all, but every time I did one, I'd always run into a bug or two that would make me go back to stock (despite the awesome benefits).
Just because people are "jumping ship" to the Note does not mean those people simply want the latest and greatest. Most, if not virtually all, people on here seem to understand that technology moves rapidly and their product is going to be outdated by the next best thing right around the corner. We all know the SIII will be making its debut soon, and we all know it will be better than the current lineup super-phones. That doesn't mean going from the Infuse to the Note will be any less beneficial, because the Note is still a better phone than the Infuse (unless you really hate the size... but then it's like, well you have the SII or the Skyrocket, so no real point there, in my opinion).

Hey man, no reason to be rude about it. I was asking for an official document that states quad core, 2 GB phones are "right around the corner" as you are implying.
I would be inclined to agree, when the next galaxy s device is released it should blow all current devices out of the water. It is after all the successor; it better rock. but again, the specs you quoted are still rumors and the device has no ETA. So you're basically telling people not to get the current Corvette just because the next one will be better.
For the record, I don't have a note. Not getting one either, but you're argument doesn't really hold water since its based solely on rumor and speculation or user expectation. Not official manufacturer released hardware specs.
No reason to try and make people feel stupid for buying one of the best devices available AT THIS TIME.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
One thing though to be carful of is that they changed the specs some for the americcan one.
Honestly with the current cell phone technology , you'll be forever waiting because there will always be a newer and better phone that's 3-4 months away from being released.
I say, get what you like now. If it has the specs, look, feel, and size you like, get it. Then if 3-4 months later quad core phones come out, sell your current phone and get the new one. Simple as that!

I'm not a latest and greatest kind of guy I like my infuse and probably won't upgrade for a while. I trust dman when he says the note is a beast and i can appreciate playing with new toys, but I don't get what the big deal is with the S Pen.
My wife bought a case for her kindle fire that came with a pen and it works on my infuse, so... /shrug I'm just not too excited about a stylus i guess...
People drooling over quad core phones are just spec hungry. The only advantage may be battery life, but that's a big maybe. More cores draw more power, but do handle heavy multitasking and gaming with better battery life. Seeing as most Android apps don't even take advantage of two core, why the hell are four necessary. By the time apps that utilize four cores are widespread, there will be a whole new generation of devices that are better than the GS3.
Yes, 2 GB of RAM will make the phones buttery smooth and apps launch instantaneously, but here is already barely any lag on my infuse running CM7, and our phones are single cores with less than a gig of RAM.
Until a majority of apps utilize the advantages of quad core processors, buying a phone with four cores is basically like having a 10 inch ****. You may seem impressive to all other guys, but it's not exactly necessary for a majority of sexual encounters. Haha.
Not to mention, unless you plan on buying the international version of the GS3, we won't see it here in the US until the end of the year most likely. Happy waiting to you!

The S Pen is a wacom stylus...way better than the capacitive stylus that came with her fire. Much more accurate, and allows for a lot more functionality. With the button on the S Pen, you have additional features and gestures that make using a stylus actually productive. Capacitive stylii are basically little fingertips. Look at some of the art being produced on a Note, and you will never be able to match that kind of detail with your fingers or a capacitive stylus. This accuracy allows you to actually write legibly.
Unnecessary thread. You know everyone has there own opinions. So why argue. If people want the note, then leave them alone.

Samsung gets an F for MWC

Highly disappointed with the Samsung offerings from MWC..
A Galaxy Tab 2 that's almost identical to our current Tab
The Galaxy Note Tab did not impress me
The Galaxy Tab 11.6 was a no show..
Also, no Galaxy Note phone on Sprint..
I'd have to give Samsung an F grade for MWC...
The Note 10.1 was pretty impressive - if it doesn't have that ****ty closed-source-driver AR6000 wifi chip the Tab 7 Plus has I'm going to get it.
1.0 GHz to 1.4 GHz may not seem like much at first - but remember you're going (I'm fairly certain) from Tegra2 to Exynos. There's only one quadcore CPU on the market, and it's a Tegra. Nvidia is always the first to up their core count, but they typically deliver poor performance per core.
For example, the old Samsung Hummingbird could beat Tegra2 in many workloads despite being only single-core. (Infuse 4G utterly smoked the Atrix.)
Tab 2 10.1 was epic fail
I get the feeling they're not done with this year's announcements yet. There's no way they're going to leave the ipad 3 on its throne for long.

However, announcing two tabs at MWC doesn't leave much room for non-MWC announcements.

I think it's too early to say what 2012's going to look like for Samsung’s tablets. Here's a quote from an interview...
"One reason for any confusion might be the multiple versions of the Galaxy Tab that have been released in the last year - from the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 to the Galaxy Tab 8.9 to the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. Packingham said that Samsung was basically experimenting with what worked best. "2011 was the big introductory year for Samsung on the tablet side," he said. But "I think we've kind of reached a point where we understand what the market looks like, and we're now optimizing the tablet portfolio to go after the segments where we can be successful."
So if you think about it, the Tab 2 (7 and 10) replace their original equivalents and are probably going to be Samsung's low-end devices. The Note 10.1 is a specialty device that I'm guessing they'll also push hard via their commercial division. The 7 Plus could end up being replaced by a Note 7. The AMOLED 7.7 is kind of its own unique beast. The 8.9, if it doesn't get a "2" version, I'd imagine will fade in to the sunset. And the upcoming 11.6 is going to be a high-end monster (and probably priced that way) to take on the iPad3. Hopefully, based on their "optimizing" their portfolio, it'll start to make more sense later in the year.
I think Samsung has something up their sleeves and MWC is only showing what they have currently built and going to sell in the meantime. I doubt Samsung is going to let Crapple beat them with their Rumored and I quote Rumored specs on the Ipad3. Most people don't even know what the Ipad3 has in fact if it even has a higher pixel count. The rumor also says they might do away with the mechanical home button, umm.... capacitive like the rest if not most android phones how passe. Anyways getting back to Samsung I honestly think they are keeping things under wraps simply because Crapple is waiting to find something to sue about again.

As long as it priced the same as the iPad 3 they should not have a problem.. If it's priced higher, then most normal consumers will opt for the iPad 3..

The way look at it is: Samsung needs to change their game plan because they have so mnay prodcts out there it has become impossie for consumers to differntiate one from the other and make a desicion to buy one of the Tablets!
I think each line of Tablets should have something unique to offer and with each release they should improve specs as well as provide some new and attractive feature which makes it better than the previous release .................... But alas, samsung's prodect frenzy is not only hurting their own business but also samsung tablet/phone users who have to wait months before Samsung can push ot an update but then it already time for another version of Android release!
Samsung can make good products but its about time they should sober up and invest time and money into specific product lines which would be benficial to both them and us users.
They have their own event scheduled for March 9

Why stop at 11.6 go straight to the 50.1 Galaxy Tab Note.

Do you have anything meaningful to add or are you just trolling for Apple?

Galaxy S III has quad core.....what does that mean for 7.7?

In a couple of weeks the Galaxy S III (i9300) is going to be launched with a quad core 1.5Ghz processor.
Given how slow Samsung have been to actively market the 7.7 does this mean the tablet is going to become redundant even before it's gained any sales traction?
While I love my 7.7 I'm realistic in that it's not been a sales success (mostly due to Sammies "too many products...no focus" current marketing strategy).

I think samsung is trying to find a niche in the mobile market. Almost anything that is 'successful' to them, they will make revisions of them.
like samsung galaxy tab p1000 -> becomes 7.0 plus
or samsung s -> s2
and the 7.7, and 5.3 note was like test for them .. but it seems note was more successful.. and that 7.7 seems to release late, maybe due to the law suite with apple?
Personally i do like to see note 2
As for the sgs3, i will only consider it if it have sdcard slot + removable battery.
quad core means little for me.
Galaxy Tab 7.7
I changed from Galaxy S2 to Galaxy Tab 7.7.
I dont know why the Galaxy Tab 7.7 should become no sale success. if you compare it to other tabs you can see that the Hardware (beside the camera module) is very good.
I am satisfied with this tablet. If there will be the ICS update i think the android sofware will work much better than Honeycomb.
If you compare it to the Galaxy Note and the upcoming Galaxy S3 you will notice that the tab ist still another formfactor with its 7.7.
After using my tab for 2 weeks i dont want to miss ist, especially for media and internet. Besides this i am using it as cellphone too to telephone.
If i think of the 4,x inch Display of my S2 or the Note display i think the tab is still the better choice.
And due to its size it is still mobile enough to take it for everyday use.
Hope the 7.7 will get the ics update soon and find some more devs here in forum...
Id also like to see a Galaxy Note 2 and a Tab 2 7.7 but the new SuperAMOLED manufacturing and a bigger battery life. Probably the next Tab 7.7 will come with a quadcore A15.

How do you know that the GSIII is going to have a quad core chip in it? Until it is officially announced, any specs we may think we know or expect the GSIII to have are nothing more than rumors, speculations, and theories.
Don't get ahead of yourself here.
Until then, this conversation is pointless.

I still don't have any idea what this thread is about. Are you worried that the 7.7 won't be top dog or something? It's yesterday's news. Get the shiniest thing you can.
??
that I should sell my tablet 7.7 and sgs2 and buy a phone sgs3? doesnt so logic to me

Well, I was joking. This kind of thread is rather useless so I should refrain from reading or commenting, really.
Cripes chaps it's not that difficult to follow.......
The 7.7 was announced almost 8 months ago and in many markets the 3G version is still not even available.
As Sammie themselves (and other manufacturers) are now starting to announce quad core products it'll set expectation in the marketplace that quad core is now the base level.
This discourages buyers from buying dual core products.
Fewer sales means developers less inclined to work on a product that's perceived as out of date.
We, as owners of 7.7 devices get fewer ROM options.
Nottin' really... galaxy tab 2 is coming here at Singapore last time I heard they're also putting quad core in there...

Correct me if I'm wrong ... would a quad core chip even present much of an upgrade over a dual core, considering the application? Seems like overkill to me.
Maybe you have a point there... but its a matter of adopting to the newest tech, soon most apps would be so heavy that you'd req a quadcore processor...

Except for new games and other niche programs, I suspect that won't be the case for several more years to come.

exactly, I am not even sure if programs in windows take advantage of dual or quad cores.
I'd rather take a A15 dual core than quad A9.

That's why I still haven't purchased it and sticking with my Overclocked original Tab. Hopefully Samsung will come with a 7.7 (2) that will be popular enough
But definitely at this point with little custom ROM available, no CM, and ICS not yet there it makes little sense to upgrade (I might for the battery life since my Tab after 18months starts to show signs of tiredness)
On top of it there is not even a GSM LTE version available (Actually there s in Korea but with different bands form the "usual" ones used in Europe and US)

This is what the Galaxy SIII should have been

http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/2/2995579/pantech-vega-racer-2-announce
4.8" 720p screen (tech is not known)
S4
but most importantly - ceramic body, and software buttons like the Nexus!
It also has a pretty nice looking skin and voice actions. The design needs tweaking but its nice looking phone.
Might wanna fix the title
But I agree, the design of the Racer is MUCH more professional looking than the S3. Seems like Pantech didn't wan't to sit around and get passed by the way Samsung was content to do...
Damn, I can't edit the title now.

...so if you want the slower dualcore S4 you can always get the One X or wait for SIII American release. Don't know how a quadcore S4 will be like yet.
With that said, I'm not hype with this phone for most other aspects, but if the price is not much higher than the One X, it can be a good buy.
The Meizu MX will also have the same quadcore as the SIII, they already announced its price and release date. I would imagine they have to sell it at a lower price than the SIII to compete. And since it will only have qHD screen, it might be faster.
Also that Pantech has S4 because of the LTE. Overally I wish there would be more competition for ARM licensed CPUs, maybe TI would cook up something.

Nice looking phone. Too bad it probably won't come to Verizon or else I'd take a closer look at it.
