[Q] Xoom 3.1 tun.ko - Xoom General

I have searched high and low for a tun.ko module for a rooted Android 3.1 Motorola Xoom.
I have tried to load tun.ko modules from Android 3.0 releases without success.
I am getting "(Exec format error)" errors while using insmod.
Can someone help me here? I want to get OpenVPN working and have been unsuccessful so far.
Thanks,
Eric

I compiled the module for 3.1, you will find it here:

Hi Olli,
I tried this tun.ko for the Galaxy tab 10.1 - 3.1.
I still get "Exec format error". Is that suppose to work on my device?
Thanks a lot.

@yochaizv
Did you read my small info on the website?
Your kernel version *must* match the module version.
Otherwise the kernel refuses to load the module and
you get the format error.
My module was compiled for the Motorola xoom.
It's very likely that your kernel is different.

[Req] module nls_utf8.ko for Retail 10.1

Can anyone compile nls_utf8.ko module for the Retail 10.1?
The Settings -> About tablet tab has the following:
Kernel - 2.6.36.3 se.infra sep-58 #1
Build Number - HMJ37.UEKF3 P7510UEKF3
Don't know if it's important for this module but for cifs.ko was the following:
cifs: version magic should be '2.6.36.3 SMP preempt mod_unload ARMv7 '
Ok, I did it myself. Here is nls_utf8.ko for the retail 10.1. Works for me.
Trying to set this up myself. I've got cifs working but not utf8 support. Your nls_utf8.ko does not seem to work for me. I've got:
Kernel: 2.6.36.3 [email protected] #1
Build number: HMJ37 P7500XWKHD
Do I need to change kernel for this to work or is there another file available for this kernel?
I don't think you need to change your kernel. If you can find the source for it - you can compile the module. The description of how to compile is somewhere on this forum (don't remember where exactly). Though first you should check this module: try mount manager and force loading of modules in it - this helps...
i need utf8 for cifs too, so i tested nls_utf8.ko in this thread but doesn't work for me.
I haven't problem with cifs.ko, it's works always but without utf8 support so,
how do i can test if my kernel able to support utf8?
how do i can know if i can add a module of nls_utf8 or i need recompiling kernel?
thanks in advance

[Q] Why not compile the tun.ko module with Asus TF101 ROMs?

Hi all,
I've looked at forums in the DEV section and can find a tun.ko module for an earlier kernel of the TF101. None of the ROMs including Clemsys, Revolver's, Netformer's, Prime's and any other I have download include this module in their kernel builds. I would like for this module to be included, which was in Prime 1.2, but that was for a kernel that is no longer in use and that is for Honeycomb 3.0. So my question to the Devs is, why no compile tun.ko for any and all the ROMs you deploy?
Thanks for your response.
In case people don't know, tun.ko is the module that allows a rooted device use an app like VPNC to log into and create a VPN tunnel through a Cisco VPN Concentrator.
jamdev12
Are you sure, TUN isn't in prime 1.6? I see it listed as added in version 1.4, so I don't think that it would have been removed in updated versions.
All the ROMS you mentioned (clemsyn, PRIME, Revolver) include the tun.ko compiled into the kernel. You do not need any external tun.ko module for VPN to work.
However, the trick to get VPNC to work is to rename the file /system/bin/ip to /system/bin/ip.bak. This causes the /system/xbin/ip to be picked up instead while works fine.
guptaavi,
Thanks for the info. I'm stupidfied and you have enlighten me. I know that sounds corny, but I appreciate the help here, because since I did not see the module in the /system/lib/modules folder, I thought it wasn't compiled. Now I know the difference between compiling it into the kernel and compiling it for the kernel.
jamdev
Hi guptaavi,
So I must be stupid, because I did what you just told me about changing the file name for the /system/bin/ip to ip.bak, but the VPNC widget takes forever to start and it just fails. I know the settings are correct because I can run VPNC on my OG Droid without issues. I'm running CWM7.
Do you have any suggestions?
jamdev12
If tun.ko is build into the system, how do we setup OpenVPN to use tun.ko? How do i tell OpenVPN where the tun.ko file is?
Pls help as im using PRIME 1.8.4.
TIA
JL

Kernel modules for Atheros AR9271 based usb wifi dongles(now in Hundsbuah's kernel)

UPDATE: These modules were added by request to Hundsbuah's kernel here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246062
______________________________________________________________________
I was not going to post this because it has limited use for most TF300T owners but it can't hurt so here it is. The attached file(ath9k.tar.gz) contains kernel modules needed to get AR9271 based usb wifi dongles working on the latest stock TF300T kernel(Asus build 10.4.2.20, kernel version 3.1.10). I have tested the modules with this dongle: TP-Link TL-WN722N.
Uncompress the file and you will get an ath9k directory. Inside are the modules, 2 scripts for easy loading and unloading of the modules, and iwconfig compiled for Android. Getting the dongle working goes something like this:
Su to root. Copy htc_9271.hw to /system/etc/firmware. Run the scripts start_ath9k and stop_ath9k to load and unload the modules.
After the modules are loaded, insert the dongle into the keyboard full size usb port and run ifconfig and iwconfig as needed. If wlan0(default android wifi) is on then iwconfig will show the dongle as wlan1.
Note: I did not post this on the Dev forum because I did not develop these modules...I only changed a few lines in 2 modules before compiling them.

Not very likely...you would need to get your kernel source, add ath9k driver support to the kernel config, then fix any compile errors.

You need the kernel source for your tablet and a way to root your tablet. I did a cursory Google search for the kernel source for your tablet and I can't find it. If you can get the kernel source code for your tablet then it might be possible to compile ath9k modules. If you can't root that tablet then kernel modules won't be useful because there would be no way to load them.

I had to comment out a few lines of code in 2 modules to get mine to compile. On the TF300T, it has to do with LED code not present in the stock kernel that is referred to in 2 of the modules. If you use my modules on the TF300T, you will get no LED blinking on the WIFI stick when data is transmitted or received.
EDIT: Newegg has an Atheros AR9271 USB stick for $9.99 with a cradle.

When trying to add modules via your script, it gives me an "exec format error" for each module. How can this be fixed?
