STANDARD DISCLAIMER:
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. By running this firmware, you agree that there is the possibility that you may brick your device. You agree that only you are responsible and no one else is responsible for supporting you if that occurs.
Acknowledgments
Roebeet, Mrguy, Pershoot, Zebwen, Clemsyn and all the Adam and VEGA developers, for this excellent port. If you have contributed something I used let me know and I will add you here.
Pre-requisites
1. Setup and learn how to use nvflash. This is your backout in case something bad happens, so I would recommend you understand how to use this, in advance.
2. Have your device on a stock 1.2-based ROM / mod baseline. For example, build 4349 is the latest 1.2-based stock ROM, as of this writing.
NVFlash
- tlb1961's Rev4 nvflash for windows or linux(Detailed Instructions included in download.)
Installation for 1.2-based stock
Two options for installing Flashback
Option 1 (May have instability)
- Copy the zip file to the root of your internal memory.
- Reboot into recovery. Select install from sdcard.
- Wipe data if after first boot you experience instability or non functioning features that work for others. (this still may not fix your issues)
Option 2 (Preferred method and most stable option)
- View detailed instuctions
Installing Flash (you can upgrade to flash from the Market and use Opera for flash in web and go back to this hacked flash anytime to use Flash apps)
- Go to settings then Applications and select unknown sources
- In File Manager HD navigate to /system/data and install AdobeFlashplayer-hacked.apk
- Will need to repeat these steps after a data wipe!
Features
- YouTube App (All videos play fullscreen)
- External SDcard access
- PC Mounting
- Overclocking
- Flash Browsing (using opera)
- Flash Apps
- Web rendering apps
- adhoc support
- a2dp bluetooth

I'm always happy to see new devs on xda for our beloved gtab, especially ones bringing us honeycomb. Could you add some screenshots?

sorry i have been out of the loop for a while on the gtab (ever since i got my thunderbolt) but why cant we get flash to work? i hear it has something to do with flash 10.3 not made for honeycomb by adobe but why not strip the flask.apk from the galaxy tab or xoom?

I think we can get flash to work. It looks to me Honeycomb is just glorified gingerbread. This ROM is run by pershoots gingerbread kernel. I have not started looking at this yet. I have only really dug into this the last couple weeks and first goals were external sd card, gsensor and pc mount on the same ROM.

Thanks for this, now we got a bunch of options on honeycomb , is there any specific difference between this and bos or illuminate?

I have not tried illuminate basically due to time. BOS/Flashback have become quite close. I think the main difference is Flashback has the enhanced shutdown menu

EDIT: opened new thread, wrong place to post sorry!

thanks for your work, and your clear description of it.
what kernel were you using before moving to pershoots latest?

Great Rom. I've been using it for a week now and love it. Very stable and fast. Easy connection to PC. Did I mention it was really fast.

I'm using this ROM from past 3 days, very stable and fast. Youtube (app) works in low res mode, HQ stops video from playback. Overall, nice ROM.

Vevo hd video!!!!
OK so glad to see this in the works still. I've been using it for 2 days now and seems very stable. As far as the youtube app, I'm loving it. For those of you who like HD video i did find that the VEVO app does work.......it does FC a few times just press the option again and it will go through just fine....Thank You guys for all your hard work.

Coming from Vegan 5.1 and Vegan-Gingerbread (VG), this is my first Honeycomb Rom i have bothered trying and its already my favorite. VG is a tad more responsive but i am very impressed with this as an Alpha. Very few negative and "i cant get ______to work" posts here (which is why i decided to try it first).
It works great for the things i use it for. Honeycomb is definately the better ROM for a tablet and i am loving the new interface. Access to the SD card is something i never really got working on vegan and it just works on flashback. I havent yet tried my usb keyboard or bluetooth head phones (frankly dont use those much).
Youtube works fine, i can get most *cough* videos to play using rockplayer lite, and flash actually does work if you are running it from within an app, or at least i was able to play news clips fine using the *cough* fox news app. The issue is the resolution of the Gtab as the image is stretched and distored..im betting aspect ratio of the Gtab is the key issue holding up Flash from working within honeycomb.
Keep up the great work...
I am hoping updates for flashback come quickly so i dont have to bother having to try out the other honeycomb roms (im lazy).

my gtab has been on a blank screen, it won't go into recovery or apx mode, what should I do?

Changelog:
(a4.2)
Added a EXPERIMENTAL FlashPlayer by zebwen. This unfortunately does not fix flash video playback on most sites (YouTube and BBC iPlayer do not work for example, but the small videos on the Yahoo news website do). What this DOES fix, is most other Flash applications, such as web games etc. Using this patched version of Flash, Kongregate Arcade works correctly, as well as other apps such as Zoodles Kid Mode that use flash within the application to play games. See instructions below in issues section on how to install flash.

OH MY GOD! THIS IS AMAZING! I need to try this out like right now! I was about to go to sleep, but I think I just changed my mind. Keep up the great work!

(RETIRED THREAD) VEGAn-Tab Build, based off Advent Vega firmware

FYI, this thread is being RETIRED - please use the new BETA4 post, started by Gojimi http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884103
The usual USE AT YOUR OWN RISK disclaimer. I'd also highly recommend clockworkmod recovery .08 as a pre-req. We are only testing for cwm users.
I would also recommend a full data wipe between updates, at least for now.

This is an update.zip formatted file. You'd run this like you'd run any other update.zip file.
-----------------------------------------------
This is going to be a collaborative effort between myself, Rothnic, Gojimi and whoever else wants to pitch in. A ROM based off the Advent Vega firmware.
Benefits to us
- Soft buttons, like TnT. But no TnT UI layer getting in our way. So, for example, keyboard replacements should work.
- Just as fast as the new builds we have.
- Vega build seems to have a bootup script where we can install user-based apks, after a data wipe. So, for example, Flash could be added to a build.
- Vega firmware development is probably more active than the official TnT development, at least from the little I've seen so far.
Known issues
- sdcard2 will not remount if you eject and re-insert (should be fixed in beta 3).
- The initial Google setup on a fresh install will not get past the first screen (I believe it's because the phone apks were removed). The fix for this is to use the "four corner fix", to bypass. See this video for details: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5XjF6sPef4. This should be fixed in beta 3.
- Weird orange bar is showing up in the stock Calendar app.
- The newest Market apk seems to have issues with any device that's been re-partitioned outside of the default of 2048. The "fix" is to re-partition your SD back to the default of 2048, in clockworkmod. Thanks to proengin for informing me about this.
Changelog
- (a2) We are using alpha1 as our "base" image, and then a modular format on top of that. So, alpha2 is a full update.zip package.
- (a2) VOLD should be fixed using a hack. 30 seconds after bootup, SDCARD2 should start working. Or, it may not work. It's an alpha.
- (a2) Vega user apk script has been added, which is supposed to add Flash on a newly wiped system. But it's spotty at best.
- (a2) Camera should be fixed.
- (a2) We're deleting some of the unneeded system apps like Twitter, Facebook, the Htc stuff in gapps and talkback. You can always add these back via the Market. The reason is to keep the image a little cleaner.
- (a2) Audio fix added.
- (a3) Added changes to the framework for smaller status bar and VEGAn boot screen.
- (a3) Added Gingerbread keyboard.
- (b1) SSL bug fixed. Also, added the latest YouTube and Gmail apps. Removed the user apk script for now, as it's really buggy.
- (b2) VOLD post-boot replaced with a mount commend. Should be more stable and might fix the disappearing apps, I hope. New Gmail, adhoc wireless support added, adfree hosts file removed (get "adfree android" app in the market to get it back), removed the Phone apks which should improve battery life.
- (b3) Mounting issues should be completely corrected, audio issues are corrected, new rothnic theme added, new Gmail and Voice apps, new Settings app with advanced Wifi (and policy is set to "never sleep" by default).

One GTablet is not enough
Awesome work guys. With all these choices of firmware builds, makes me wanna have 3 or 4 of these to have each build loaded on. (if I can get a refurb, at least) LOL.
Oooh, this may be my ZPad replacement! (I love ZPad but want those soft buttons.)
(put's on a smile and strikes up a joking type pose) *mainly cause sarcasm and jokeing are lost on the internet*
You know Roe... The title for this tab rom makes it sound vegitarian....
Kinda harkens me back to the day of the celery *I mean celeron processor.... lol

OMG..... now I am so confused.... is it a vegetable or a frut *runs around*......
Roebeet - are you starting out by nvflashing the raw Advent firmware and tweaking from there? Or are you pulling pieces out of mounted images from the Advent Vega firmware? The firmware I found on the Advent Vega site is a bunch of raw IMG files and the nvflash binary/DLLs.
Very nice, looking forward to seeing this and many thanks for TnT Lite, I bought the gTab because of your work (yes Viewsonic, you need to send some of your profits to Roebeet)
--Bill
The UI looks very nice, I'll have to break the VEGAn rules and give it a try!
P.S. A tomato is a fruit
That UI looks awesome.
Thank you.
That Vegan looks terrific!!!!!!
NICE looks just as good as tnt lite if not better and I like the color scheme of the status bar
Startup VEGAN Sound?
Now all you need is a startup "VEGAN!" sound like the DROID sound with the motorola. That way everyone will know you're vegan. ;P
roebeet, you guys are on a roll. Awesome. I just can't believe this device is on the market with the packaged firmware from VS. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks. Yes, I will be one of the first to try it. I've reflashed mine no less than 100 times. I'm having fun. I'm not certain this is a practical device, but it plays "birds" great.

I have found mine to be very practical. I no longer need to have my laptop for most things I do. This thing ain't perfect nonetheless it ROCKS! I'm using TnT-Lite 2.2.0 and am very pleased.

Yes, you're right. Anything that doesn't utilize a lot of keystrokes is great... task lists, games, calendars, web browsing, reading.. MOST things that a notebook does.

so excited to put a TJ rom on my Gtab once it shows up
any tips tj? i got into app development, so this thing is gonna be my primary tester for tablet apps.
did i make a good decision to get one of these?
thanks for any tips!
-tj! ill finally donate now that im not broke anymore!
Just finished installing both files, no issues. I'm accustomed to clearing all data before and after each installation, so didn't have any issues. I made a quik vid of my experience:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1_CcEWSwMM
A few things:
1) Coming from VEGan 5.1.1, it's rather sluggish. Even after about 6 reboots.
2) The camera takes pics much quicker than VEGan, I like it.
3) didn't come with a filemanager :-(
4) Would not play Samurai 2. Since i feel its a benchmark of how well the ROM works, it a downer for me.
5) Market works and was able to download File Manager
g0t0
Thanks for video!
Any ideas why Samurai 2 not play?
Thank You!
none whatsoever. works with VEGan 5.1.1 and the gADAM builds (just did a vid on the Adam one).

B-eock... do you foresee any problems that some people were reporting with other ics roms where there was a problem encrypting and thus the SD card became unusable?

I have never seen that problem on my phone personally, I cannot say for sure.

Really enjoying all the options. Great job!
It does start in Airplane mode and then takes a few seconds to connect to the network. Quick and add it to the OP so that it doesn't get mentioned every other page. Just kidding...that won't make a difference.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beyond AMAZING!!!
SUPER SUPER SMOOTH
only thing ive found while playing around with this thats a known bug for a lot of ICS is the whole "automatic time zone" thing
besides that everything seems to be running exelent...
even batt is beyond amazing... spent a good 5 mins with screen on and messing with stuff and didnt budge one % whatsoever....
call vol/quality/reception is amazing
cam apps video record is 100
no lag from lock to unlock
im in love!!!!
***EDIT
Contacts for me still had the white background theme color... No biggie i can live with that
over all darker theme is excelent
Love the darker theme. Very fast, smooth and responsive. I got signal as soon as the phone booted. I am using the KF1 modem.

smoothest ics rom yet. couple of things
1-how do i get rid of the google search bar? tried to uninstall it using tb but after reboot it gets automatically installed again.
2-how do i change notifications widget and their order? cant seem to find the options for that in the settings.
3-batt life has not been so good so far. maybe after calibration it gets better.
4-how do i change the icon of custom app on the lockscreen? messaging icon is cool but the other one is not my cup of tea. sorry.
nonetheless, excellent rom!

Yeah I haven't been able to figure it out for months...
Your ROM is very similar to the modifications I've made on my own.. In order to accomplish what I really want to do, I think I need to build an AOSP ROM for this. Do you have any idea how to set up an AOSP device tree for this device, or care to lend a hand? I'm starting the research phase now, never really done this before, but I feel too held back by the stock Moto version of Android on here to and feel like I need to start over from scratch with a stock AOSP 2.3.7 base. Not sure if its worthwhile to try for a newer version of Android given the limited memory on this device..
your rom rocks OP, looking forward to updates.
I made running software a bit more complete than the one in the original ROM
I made a little software that can connect to HR and footpod which is a bit more complete than the one coming with the ROM,
take a look at : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1939854.
curently only footpod and HR are supported, but I'am testing a version which includes
for biking :Bike Speed-Cadence sensor .
for running:kinetics (internal accelerometer) so no footpod needed.
a csv usable in Sporttracks is generated
Any update on this rom t2k?
Version 2.0.1 released
Enjoy it!
Thanks for keeping this development alive.

Yes, the ROM always Force Close when gapps (Play Store, Talk) are installed. I have no time and no skill to fix it. I will try to add it back later. Now, please use adb to install apps.
For the home button on the dock issue, did you mean that the "All Applications" icon is missing on the right side of the launcher? if yes, please long press on home screen to add it back.
dprolidan released his aosp port of 2.3.4 with a github of the sources if it helps (just got my motoactv last week, saw the post about aosp and just making it known to anyone else who might not be aware)

Thanks for your information. From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28179638, dproldan said all google apps are working in their rom, I will try to integrate my stuffs based on that ROM in next release (better than fixing the issues by myself).

Any progress? I'm going to try and flash this ROM once I can figure out how to do it. Root tool works fine but Easy Modder doesn't work for me. Going to try Image Flasher V3.
****** UPDATE: Figured it out with a little trial and error.... Just flashed and will be trying it out..... THANKS!*****
OK, is there something I'm missing. Trying to put this ROM on my 16gb Motoactv. I can use root tool to root the device but the Motoactv Easy Modder doesn't seem to recognize the device. I can't change the buttons or boot into recovery to install this ROM, it just says waiting for device or path not correct (or something like that). I even tried the Motoactv Image Flasher, but it also didn't seem to recognize the Motoactv.
I have a 16GB Motoactv and running Windows 7 64-bit.
All I care about is using it For Runkeeper and connecting it to my phone for notifications. I don't care about the play store, as I find that using it as an android device, though it kinda off cool, is mostly of useless for me.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
I guess there isn't much activity with this ROM anymore. I managed to get it installed but GPS would not get a lock at all. I just flashed the latest ClearDroid ROM then installed the modded Runkeeper apk from your site and now it's working and getting GPS locks.
Thank you so much for the Runkeeper_mod.apk, it's giving me what I wanted from my Motoactv. :good:

Does this ROM have the Motoactv Golf software built in still? Mine is Rooted, but I'm running the general 1.7.10 software....but I could really use to open it up a bit. I bought the watch primarily for Golf, I run a ton and do "Insanity." And it would be great if I could keep my Data Synced with my iPhone instead of the ACTV portal. If I use RunKeeper, I can keep it in both places. Would LOVE to have Notifications from my phone, go to the watch...but I don't think there is a real good way of doing so with an iPhone.

It been a while and I don't recall any Golf software. As I could not get a GPS lock I moved to the ClearDroid Motoactv ROM and installed the Moded RunKeeper APK that the RunKeeperACTV ROM uses. I've gone back to using my phone because I have a hard time getting it to sync with RunKeeper. I did get it to sync the first time I used it after repeated attempts. I kept getting slow connection notices. The last time I tried I don't think I ever got it to sync. I'll try again after updating to the latest ClearDroid ROM as I'm still running an older version.
Try a MotoActv ROM of you choice with the Moded Runkeeper (it's not the new runKeeper version, but works) and see how it works for you. This ROM, RunKeeperACTV, seem to not be active anymore so I would not recommend using it.
You lost me on step 5. How do I do this?
Thanks

Yes big thanks to you for opening this thread so we can keep things organized.
Most excellent; I look forward to updating my TouchPad.
If anyone has difficulty downloading from the goo.im links, I've mirrored a copy of the ROM and recovery at the following location:

Nope, J.C. Sullins is not known for that kind of stuff. However, since he does base his builds on Milaq's CM11, if you look at his OP in the "Change" box, that should give you some idea of what is going on as long as you know how to read that kind of stuff. And that is about as close as you will get to a change log in Milaq's thread.
Fyi. I can confirm that the USB OTG Activation bug is fixed in this build for those that use OTG.
@BIGSimon and others,
JcSullins also has a fully Touch version of Philz CWM 6.0.4.7 jcs DM 20140317 that has the same ROM support as the regular non-touch version and also has a "TWRP Mode" under "Backup and Restore" (Nandroid Settings). Highly recommended. Additional details in post 2 of my "info" thread.

I have a problem with this (and, i think, any other data/media 4.4 rom) - listening to music (tried apollo with local files and play music with cloud music) with screen off results in either complete hang (have to reboot using home + power button), or just audio stopping working until the reboot. In some rare cases it could continue.
I'm attaching the logcat (played some music via play music, it was ok, switched to apollo, turned screen off and sound died), i've saved it after the problem occured, so the relevant data have to be somewhere near the end.
I assume as per Milaq's rom, this rom uses 3.0 kernel?

I don't spend my day looking at the sigs people attach to their posts. I find them really useless. Kind of like the vanity plates people stick on their cars, stupid. You asked a question in the JC Sullins cm 11 thread, I gave you an adequate answer.

Done some googling, found that in some 4.3 rom (milaq, i think) there was a advice to keep bluetooth on to prevent death of audio on sleep. I've tried it, and it seems to be working so far.
Not only while listening music, just keep the pad on (idle) for a while, it enters deep sleep mode. To wake it up you have to press power and home most of the time. Also Bluetooth transferring is not happening.
