Purely pathetic. Freshman CS students code better for homework assignments. Gimme a break!!

I GOT COMPARED TO A FIVE YEAR OLD ON THE INTERNET! BETTER BUST OUT THE BIG WORDS!
I kid.
Anyway, he's talking about the typing lag in the default browser. And, yeah, it is pretty bad. But it's manageable. The default browser has too many things that I love to dump it for the one flaw.
To the OP directly, a lot of it has to do with XDA, too. It's bad on most sites, but XDA with the 2010 theme takes the cake for slowest website to view on the Transformer. It was a lot worse before the 3.1 update. Take a little time and do it better yourself, too, if you really feel that way.

There is no editor in the browser. The textarea you are writing to is part of the website. It's sluggish on this forum and probably that caused you to comment like that.

Ok whatever. When I acces this site with Opera no problems. When I access any other ste it screwsup.
Above typos are uncorrect4d.
Got it?

Opera works wonders with Javascript-enabled sites, especially in modern forums. Other browsers fail in this regard, possibly due to the lack of optimization used by Opera's team. However, the problem with this one is that the devs need Honeycomb source code to optimize Flash content, so we're stuck with a Flash-less Opera for tablets.

Turn off flash. It may speed up the browser substantially.

It's a shame we can't report posts anymore using the report buton.

And so isn't that the beauty of the system, that one can so easily substitute another browser for the stock browser? I mean, seriously: Opera works better for that particular use. Awesome! Firefox works better with my company's SharePoint site. Bonus! Dolphin works well with some particular sites I visit. Cool!
Complaining that the stock (browser, or whatever) doesn't work in a particular instance only makes sense if there were no other options. But then, of course, you'd probably be talking about an Apple product.

Indeed, the beauty of Android: Choice. Why settle for stock when you've got a whole group of alternatives, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. You may not be satisfied with one particular browser, but you will be if you use multiple ones catered for a specific need.

You are the one that came into this forum calling things pathetic, posting vague and useless information that leaves us no way to determine what you are talking about. If you expect to be met with respect, then perhaps you should calm down.
Next, by "editor" I am assuming you mean the keyboard. The ASUS keyboard does really suck, but guess what? Android is awesome and you can switch the keyboard. There are literally over a dozen keyboards you can choose from. Thumb Keyboard, Swype, stock Android keyboard, etc all work great for me.
If you mean the browser is laggy, then switch to another browser. Try Dolphin HD or Opera or Fennec. Yay options!

I believe all of us like options, but having good browser in a first place would be better. now I'm using opera mini to browse forums. fast n smooth.

-_- browser's editor...rofl.....xda really needs to add a 'Report' button...

You guys are really something - this guy has a very valid complaint even if he doesn't have the best handle on computer-related terms. You're all just looking for an excuse to hassle someone, even though I found his description weird I immediately knew he was referring to the browser lag.
And to those asking why we don't just move to another browser, because the stock Android browser would be, by far, the best mobile browser around if it weren't for the keyboard lag.
Yeah, it's nice that you have choice with Android but that's not what this complaint is about. This is about the stock browser that ships with Honeycomb, which is amazing by almost all accounts, is almost unusable because of this typing lag - unless you purely consume content in the internet and don't ever post anything.

But this is yet another stopgap measure, like using a third-party browser merely so you can type properly.
Tapatalk is a great app, but it was designed for phones. It's a waste of the 1280x800 screen on the Transformer.
These suggestions will work great to hold us over until a fix is released, but none of these excuse or dismiss the browser lag problem.

This is a Javascript issue, correct? If so, then why is this happening?

I also hate the lag... but I only assume google will eventually fix this maybe in the next update... hopefully... no biggie

Opera 8.6, how's it working for you?

I'm wondering what the experience has been for people using Opera 8.6. I installed the free beta version months ago, which is working, and I'm wondering if it is worth it to buy the latest retail version.
Any Opera users care to comment on their experience?
Generally I find this a good browser but there a few problems which I must mention:-
1) One cannot configure it to store its Cache to SD card. There are ways around this but nothing out of the box.
2) For large web pages with graphics and annimations vertical scrolling becomes really painful as the page does not scroll smoothly with the vertical bar. This gets really really annoying at times.
3) There is a slight lag between pressing of a link and the browser responding. You tend to press the link repeatedly thinking the browser has not responded and then it hangs. However this is something you soon get used to so not that much of a problem.
4) Quite often it does not load the page fully and gets stuck towards the last bits of the page. This is more so for pages with annimations. The progress bar gets stuck when the page has almost been downloaded and only a small percent is left. You then have to refresh the page and usually the 2nd attempt gets you through the full page.
4) The worst problem for me which has really limited its use is that once you have used this it stops some other programs to start and you have to soft-reset. Typical examples are Netfront, Planmaker and Textmaker. After using Opera and having killed it these programs will often not start without a soft-reset.
As I said at the start it is still a good browser and so I am not mentioning the good things but these are just the glitches which seriously mar the user experience of an otherwise good product. In fact though I have a registered version I find myself using it less and less and prefering Netfront over it simply of some of the annoying bugs I mention.
Regards
I agree with smrz completely, and have suffered from the issues outlined, but I'd like to add:
- Opera 8.6 can't handle some pages very well (I'm thinking of the Yahoo pages where you need to log in). It just doesn't render them in any sort of useable fashion.
Having said this, I still use it as my main browser, and find that in combination with PIE, then I can do pretty much everything I want on the web.
Cheers,
Steve.
are there any differences between the beta version and the retail version?

Here a post I wrote on moving cache of Opera on SD card...
http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=forum&ac=voir&cat=101&id=5514
Open opera.ini file, go to [User Prefs]. At the end of that paragraph, write that ligne
Cache Directory4=\Storage Card\x with x the folder you choosed for cache on your SD.
For french roms, Storage Card must be replaced by Carte de Stockage
Opera is not perfect, but is largely better than other mobile browers...
Thanks for the input. I'm not sure I will pay for the retail version at this point.
Re: the difference between beta version and latest retail version, I'm sure there are many and would depend on the beta version. Main one that comes to mind is that I understand the retail version has a tabbed browser interface while my old beta version does not.
I wonder if Opera mobile will ever support Java?
opera 8.5/8.6 does not support java & javascript?
what about vbscript?
Where do we copy the opera.dll
I am running a trial version. Have the cracked opera.dll file. Where do I copy this to in order to prevent the 30 days to run up?

Here's an idea: how about *paying* for it? I mean, it's only $24 or about 2% the RRP of an HTC Universal. Don't try to kid yourself that circumventing anti-piracy measures is anything other than stealing. If you use a cracked copy, you are a theif.
I agree I always buy software. I have 50+ apps on my IIs and all are paid for you, shouldn't try and steal money from hard working developers who are trying to make a living.
I am finding Opera 8.60 retail to be AWESOME!
In fact, I ditched the JasJar some months ago and have been using a JAM for some time. I only bought a new JJ cos of Opera on VGA. It's rendering most pages such as my online banking (which PIE cocked up completely), it zooms perfectly, and it's just amazing! If WM5 had come out with a decent broser on day one it would have driven operator ARPU's and internet usage. Now I have google with me wherever I go. I kind of had it on my JAM, but not really with that crappy low res screen.
This is a no brainer app and worth every cent!
Piracy
Nice thinking and have no objection. But if you got something for the first time you simply dont go about splashing money around. It is only fare that I want to make use of it, see & decide. If you check 8.6 is not the latest version it is an old version. By paying I would now be getting v9 (see I checked it and am planning to) but need to see if it is what I need / want.
Stereotyping aint really good. Peace anyway....
PS: Besides doing this kind of stuff is always the best way of learning the logic, structure of how a device works. And that is my main interest in these stuff. Not getting all for free. Thanks for your comments anyway...

I'm using Opera on the trial. 30 days is plenty of time to make your mind up. If you don't really use it enough to make up your mind in that time, then don't buy it. If you do, buy it. $24 really is next to nothing for a product. That wouldn't a decent sandwich, cake and a cup of tea!

They provide a trial for that purpose. If they didn't, I still wouldn't agree. Afterall, I can't try out a holiday before I buy it and if I don't like the terms, I can simple boycott the product.

I'd hardly call it stereotyping. Stereotyping is painting a group with a broad brush and, in doing so, encompassing more than rightfully fit the description. However, calling all pirates theives is not stereotyping as all piracy is theft.

I know I'm on a very high horse here, but I cannot and will not tolerate piracy. It *does* hurt people (developers, distributers, support staff, everyone in the chain and their families) and they only reason why it's not as widely regarded as wrong is because everyone knows they will more than likely get away with it. Steal Opera is no better than stealing a wallet or an item of jewellery or anything else. It's ALL theft.
I'm using an early beta that does not have the 30 day limit.
Am I stealing?
The reason I posted the question is because I am not averse to paying for a good finished product. It seems craigiecraig4 (if I have the name spelled right) would say that Opera 8.6 is a good finished product.
That is the type of opinion I was soliciting.
I think anyone who has a beta version of software on there device have in a way paid for it because they put there device on the line to test the product.

[Q] Having Difficulties with android BROWSER

Hi, I just got my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 one week ago. Having fun with this awesome tablet. Very fast and interesting tablet. FANTASTIC!!! However, I have some difficulties using the default browser. When I was surfing Xda forum or whatever forum which contain a long page and have a lot of stuff, my browser started to get lagging. When i was trying to scroll down, the browser was lagging for while then started to load the page again. The browser was slow and is incomparable to ipad2. I was not trying to praise ipad2 or what, i just simply get upset with the performance of the browser =(((( ..you guys have any idea about this problem? Any suggestions for me to improve the browser performance??
CHeers.
Try to scroll down to bottom and change to Xda Classic in the drop down.

Yeah, that's true, but the same happened to me with the Asus TF.
I was reading on Xoom's forum that Honeycomb 3.1 update have better browsing speed and scrolling, also the OS UI overall. It's matter of time if someone reports better results with XDA 2010 mode under 3.1

Having problem using dolphin as well..so many problem when i surfing webpage that contain of long page or full of flash...Will samsung or android sort this out soon? Or just i am the one who having the problem?
I am also having a strange issue. Ever since I browsed XDA I will now see page artifacts left over show up randomly from the forum on other sites. For instance, on a google search result when I scroll I will see a large square chunk of the XDA page for a second. I have tried clearing browser cache, history etc... any thoughts? I hope this makes sense

This is a known issue. Once we have root we can replace the browser with the browser from the Xoom.
I wanted to love this tablet but seriously the bugs make this thing crappy. The browser issues are bad. Dolphin works but tweaks out from time to time. Add in the wifi and disappearing status bar issues. Makes me wish I had sold this puppy. So unhappy with this thing. Really disappointing. Glad it was free.

Except for US carrier's phones, Samsung gave quite good updates.

I haven't been having much problems with my tablet other than the time change issue which was fixed using someone's apk to unlock the automatic time. I too have a few issues with the browser occasionally, especially scrolling in XDA but you just have to be patient. Sometimes scrolling will stop working but I just close all my tabs and re-open and it's fixed.
I'm extremely surprised at the fact that some people are upset at the fact that we got a tablet that is not even publicly released yet for another month and it has bugs. YES, the unreleased tablet has bugs. It was mainly given out at a "developers conference" to DEVELOPERS to develop for. I am absolutely happy that they gave us these devices so that now the people whom want to develop applications on a tablet device are now able to test and debug on an actual device other than the emulator which they admit is not-so-good.
It's almost upsetting that people are so easily selling these on ebay just to make a quick buck and chance the fact that google may stop (but probably won't) giving out these sorts of devices to developers in the future developer conferences.
I wouldn't have a problem if it was just a few bugs. Or even bugs that didn't stop daily use. However I have probably an entire page of bugs and issues with this thing and I haven't done anything fun to it yet. I can only go maybe a day or so without restarting it.
Maybe I sound ungrateful and I shouldn't be. But my frustration at this thing is unpalatable. I hope that Samsung fixes these issues and soon. Because to me this thing is almost unusable and I am certainly not going to develop on it until something more stable is available.
I also don't understand the decision to announce 3.1 and then a few minutes later give everyone a device with 3.0 and tell us a competing device will get 3.1. WTF?! In what meeting did that sound like a good idea?
I'm sorry to hear that you're having so many problems :-/

I preface this with, i dont code flash, BUT how is this web developers issues when adobe is claiming flash is alive and well for desktops? These days companies cant afford to provide 2 completely different web sites for desktop and mobile and on the desktop there are just too many things that can be done with flash that cant be done in html 5 and we wont even talk about the effort to convert even if they wanted too. This is really a web fragmentation issue that needs to be adressed soon.
I'll also add that not being able to set useragent in chrome or even reliably in stock browser is driving me nuts. I hate mobile sites on my tab.

the question we should be asking is how can dolphin implement flash fine and chrome/google cant/wont/dont?

Who is up in arms? Flash is old outdated and a resource hog. I'm glad they are making themselves obsolete.. and their software is bloated garbage. And support and update ain't much of a difference. No future browsers will have flash...unless you want to use old software in the coming years...

actually dolphin browser is using the same engine as the stock browser - that's why you get flash on dolphin too since you get it on the stock browser. and if i'm not mistaken dolphin browser is an extension of the stock browser, so code wise everything it should be almost the same except the UI and other additional features that makes dolphin unique.
Chrome is a totally diff browser - so flash needs to be supported in it I suppose in order to view flash sites in chrome for android.
thank you everyone for your response.

Chrome sucks!

Now with JB update, the main browser is chrome and is very slow slow slow and sometimes when I am playing html5 videos makes my system reboot, I know html5 is now and the future but a lot of web sites still use flash player. We still have the android browser but with the update now it does not synchronize anything. In my my opinion, asus tf300t is I nice device but for internet browsing is little bit frustrating. I tried dolphin that used to work fine with ICS, and now is slow.

While I'd hold off on saying it sucks outright, I will say that it leaves a whole lot to be desired. Chrome for Android is no where near as good as it's desktop big brother.
What I'm confused the most about is that they include it alongside their 4.1 updates, with it indented to become the users default browser, but it lacks some of the basic functionality of even the stock Android browser.
I am curious as to what you think is basic features? not bashing in any way...some need more than other.
i personally think Chrome is completely Fine. it does everything i need it to do and works well enough that i dont feel like i have to download or try any other browser out there.

i personally think Chrome is completely Fine. it does everything i need it to do and works well enough that i dont feel like i have to download or try any other browser out there.

I want it to be able to request, by default, the desktop version of websites, without me having to either specify it every time I load a new site or root and run any custom scripts.
For a device as capable as the TF300, and considering the stock browser has that function, I'd consider that a pretty basic feature. Until I see that little check box in the settings menu that allows me to "Always request desktop site", it's the stock browser for me.

I posted similar information here on xda, but I had the useragent string that the tf300 defaults to on desktop mode, if you'd rather do that:

Come on guys, did you not read my post?
"I want it to be able to request, by default, the desktop version of websites, without me having to either specify it every time I load a new site or root and run any custom scripts."
I do not want to unlock in order to root. Once there is a root exploit developed for 4.1.1 that maintains the locked boot-loader I'm all game to give the above options a try.
In the meantime though I'm still of the opinion that if the default browser can be programmed to request desktop versions of websites by default, there is absolutely no reason why Chrome can not be developed to do the same.
I agree it's silly that the old android browser would have features that chrome does not. Chrome can be unbearably slow on my pad. Google now as well.

Did i get what on ICS? The custom script for Chrome that is linked above? Yes I was using that while locked/rooted on ICS, but that's not the point of my complaint with Chrome.
There should be no reason that a feature like automatically requesting the desktop site in a tablet based browser should not be included, without the need to unlock/root/run custom scripts. It's just a lack of effort on the part of the Chome developers as far as I'm concerned.

I think its something that'll be coming.. I mean chrome for android hasn't had as long to develop as the stock aosp browser has.
Also, I meant root on ics. It was possible without unlocking. I am rooted but locked.

Surprisingly the new firefox outperforms both chrome and stock in my opinion. I principally use my tablet for surfing and notice little lag and smooth scrolling on firefox.

Currently useless app on tf300, I use it on my sgs2 running aokp-jb and it works so good. Crap on tf3 though.

Yes I am seeing that as well. I am pretty disappointed with chrome on this beast (hell it loading like aol did on my 386). I use Chrome everywhere else (galaxy nexus, razr maxx, my linux machine and my windows 7) and it blows all other browsers away - the sync is amazing when switching between devices. There has to be something coming soon that will get it back to where it belongs. Does anyone know if these chrome issues are related to JB running on tablets or is this a transformer thing. I love this tablet (bought it two nights ago lol) but without chrome working, it feels broken. Hope this gets handled soon. I am debating on trying out one or two more tablets before I fully commit (tf700t? I actually have no other ones on my radar-nothing seems exciting). Anyone know of anything i should check out before I commit?)

Well I finally unlocked, installed Hydro and then tried applying the custom command line linked to by SpeedNess above...no joy.
I then tried the method liked to by rumspringa9, again no joy.
Yes I changed permissions on the command line file. Might be that the new chrome version doesn't allow for the custom script to work.
Oh well, back to the stock browser and Browser2Ram for the time being.

[Q] S4 Font Size in Chrome

I'm not sure if this is a common issue in all Android phones, but searching on Google kept providing me with code to implement on a website to adjust to different mobile phone screen sizes...
I may be posting in the wrong section so forgive me in advance, but whenever I browse forums and such different posts have different size fonts. Some come out fine and are readable. Others I have to zoom in a bunch and then zoom out proceeding to the next post. Is there a fix/tweak/setting to correct this issue? I believe it does not occur in the stock Internet app from Samsung, but I rather use Chrome. I also don't think it is people changing their font size when posting.
I'll try to attach screen shot of it to help go along with my concern.
Thanks in advance.
This is a bug in Chrome for Android versions greater than 18. And, this is the only reason I can't switch to this browser as the default.
It sure is annoying.
Here is the tracked bug:
I can't post links, but search Google for " chromium 135947"
They say it will be fixed in milestone 29.

Thanks for the reply I guess I'll just have to wait for the update. Any suggestions for a decent browser? I wasn't thinking that the Samsung one would be that great... but it doesn't have this font boosting issue either. ..
I currently use Boat Browser. It's better than the stock Samsung browser. Give it a shot.

It's called Font Boosting.
I wish they'd just give an option to turn it off. Even if it was working perfectly as intended it would irritate me to have text so much larger than other elements of the page. I'm more than capable of pinch-zooming if I have a hard time reading some text.

I agree. Pretty annoying. And I like to use browsers to view forums and such, not another app. Perfectly capable of zooming in add well. I guess it is just a waiting game for the update. Funny how other browsers got it right but Google is behind on this one.

I created a feedback thread on Chrome product forums to suggest an option for turning it off, but it hasn't gained any traction. It could help if more people voiced their displeasure with this feature.

Since this is also something that is annoying me, I also posted in your thread. Hopefully it actually does something. For now I think I'll continue using the stock browser.
