[Q] Does anyone have the leather pouch? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

I love the look of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and I take good care of my stuff so I don;t really need a think and bulky case. I saw the leather pouch on their webite, and thought it was perfect, since I just need something to protect it from bumps and scratches while carrying it.
Has anyone seen this, used it, had a hands-on with it? Does anyone own it?
Are there cheaper 3rd party ones?
Edit: This forum will not let me link to the pouch, but it is $29.99.

I had the book cover case on order but I ended up canceling it. I found a belkin case at best buy for $45 its thin doesnt add much bulk at all and it it folds into a stand. I just wanted something thin and easy to protect the screen. I'm not worried about dropping it.
I dont have the name or model number I left the box on my desk at work. I'll update later with the info. I couldnt find it on the belkin website or besbuy.
Funny thing the best buy employees didnt even know they had it when I went in last friday.

I bought the leather one that was right next to that one and I do not think it adds a lot of bulk to it but it def protects it and thats what is most important to me.

Yep, I'm with you, I didn't want anything too bulky with so many flaps, etc.
I'm glad I bought the pouch. It's perfect and it's a tight fit. Just to test how tight it is, I held it upside down with the opening side down and the Tab didn't slide out at all.

I got the pouch, it was free since I was one of the first 200 at the launch on the 8th. I use it daily but I will be swapping it most likely for the book case by samsung when I can get it a bit easier.......I have a belkin leather one that is still unopened lol idk it seems a bit bulky

I have the Belkin folio stand. I only bought it because of convenience. My cat nearly jumped on to my tablet while it was laying on the couch, so I wanted something to protect it (and the Samsung case isn't available yet).
The fit is very snug, and it folds up to various viewing angles. It has a nice elastic strap that can be pulled around to hold it shut.
It is a _little_ bulky. The selling point on this tablet is the weight and thickness. That being said, the case weighs almost as much as the tablet. So, don't get it if weight is important to you.
Overall it's pretty nice. Probably a bit overpriced. When people want to play with the tab though, I always take it out of the case. It's so much prettier without it .

The Samsung Book Cover case just shipped and should be here by week's end. I'll keep you posted on it. Personally, I don't like anything that I have to keep pulling it out and pushing it in. I feel it's a matter of time before a scratch occurs.

Please do, I have belkin one and just don't love it. The Samsung one is back ordered again, and would like your impressions on it.

Thanks for information on the cases, but I don't want a case anymore. I'd rather have a nice pouch or neoprene sleeve that will protect it from scuffs of traveling.
The thing is I don't want to spend $30 for a sleeve. I just want a nice sleeve that I can carry the Tab in, without breaking the bank. It doesn't have to be an "official" sleeve, as long as it fits, I don't care.

yea I agree with your statement especially since I use the keyboard and media dock. they wont fit with any case what so ever.......I even tried to take the docking station part off again like the directions say to make more room but was still unable to do so lol

I have the suede pouch from sfbags.co
Originally for the replaced Xoom, it is a tight fit but works great.
They have a great service.

Since the Tab is longer than the XOOM, does it pop out more? How durable is the sleeve?

Seidio Innocase (Black) $24.85 SHIPPED

emobileinhand.com has teamed up with Amazon and they're selling the Seidio Innocase for $24.85 shipped. I added Priority shipping and the total was $26.85. I bought my first Innocase from them but I got wasted on St. Patricks Day and broke it. The phone is fine, thank God.
The Seidio Innocase is hands down, THE BEST case for the Kaiser. The holster (strongly recommended) really keeps the device safe.
Right now, I'm using my Boxwave as a backup. I like it, but the belt clip forces you to wear it with the screen facing out which could lead to damage.
This is a great deal.
http://emobile-in-hand.amazonwebstore.com/search.htm?keyword=B0012Y4IQA
I have this case and imo its overpriced crap. The thing rarely stays on all the way. It seems there's always a corner or something to press down on again to get it to stay on it.
If you want a nice case cheap, just buy a cheapy. I bought one off Amazon for less than $5 and it stays on all the time never have to worry about it at all. The only difference is the holster and finish. The Seido has a nicer feel to it due some coating they put on it. And the holster for the cheapy is one of those screw on job's.
But hey if you want to spend $20 on a coating for something that will fall off, go ahead its on sale!!
Satisfied
I've used it for 2 weeks now and it stays on, feels great on hand, and haven't found any peeling of the rubberized layer.
I used to put on PDAir Aluminium for my SE M600 and it also go roughed up. So you can imagine my usage habit and this Seidio performs beyond my expectation.
Yea, I dunno man, I never have had a problem with my Seidio. You just have to make sure you have it on correctly. The boxwave is a very close second though. I wish Boxwave had a holster similar to Seidio's.
The great thing about the Boxwave is that it has a "notch" for the reset hole so it's almost impossible to miss and end up messing up your USB port.

I don't know how someone could fit it on incorrectly. It only goes on one way and its pretty obvious which way that is.
My biggest problem w/the case is that if i slide that keyboard out it will knock off the bottom hinges.
IMO its not a secure case. Is it designed well as far as all the little notches and slots? Yes. Does it feel nice in your hand? Yes. Does it look nice? Yes. Is it worth more than $5? No.
Is this really much different to the 'crystal cases' that you can buy from the markets and crack after a week in your pocket?
Dont u dare!
Dont even think about buying this pathetic case. after much debate i bought this hoping it would protect my kaiser. i spent a week looking for the perfect case, went through everything i could find. i received the case, it snapped on easily, i hardly had an issue with the little hinges, the case lasted me a good 18 months. the rubberised outside is a nice touch, imo the phone doesnt look good with the case, but i stuck with it coz it protects your phone, right? well not quite. what the assholes at seidio dont tell you is that yeah they've rubberised the outside but done nothing inside the case. its plastic, which means after a couple of months you start to accumulate **** inbetween the case and the outside of the fone. ordinarily it might not be a problem, but if like me the fone spends most of its time in the back pocket, in bags etc then any grainy kind of crap between a plastic cover and a kaiser = ? you guessed it, major dents, scratches, gouges etc. i didnt check the phone for a good 3 months after i put the cover on, when i took it back off my phone looked like id rolled it down a hill and then threw it back up again. its ruined my kaiser and now i cant sell it on unless i buy another housing and put it on myself. it may be error on my part assuming that a protective case protects the outside of your fone, i dont know. this is my experience of this ****ty case, take it or leave. i think you'd be better off buying the cheapy crystal ones, coz then atleast you can see when your phone needs cleaning and you dont end up ruining it.
sorry for going on and on.
paradoox
Thanks for your feedback paradoox,
anyone else have similar long term reports?
On a separate note, i found out that Boxwave do a very similar (nearly identical) case and holster. Anyone handled both the Seidio and Boxwave for a comparison?
yep thats pretty much what i thought

I had a similar experience as paradoox, bought it, thought it looked crap but left it on to protect fone, few weeks later discovered one of the little little tabs holding the top half of the case on snapped so it wouldn't stay on.. this is when i found scratches and dents under the case too. imo ... the case is just too expensive for how it performs... better to go thu 3 cheapies i think..
It all depends on your usage and carry habit.
I carry my phone on a leather pouch on my belt, with the Seidio snuggly fit on it, so it won't slip whatsoever.
It does make sense that some grits, etc. will get under the case, but I just opened it up 1-2 weeks ago and found nothing. Remember, I live in Jakarta, taking public buses and lots of fumes, dust, etc. around the air.
Of course it has to be also counted that I rarely open my phone in public (dusty, windy area) mainly for security reasons. I don't flaunt my belongings. I worked in an office building, and the phone is often out, but it's a clean environment.
Again, YMMV. For someone who wants no dust, I read somewhere there's a waterproof case for Kaiser ..
For my use, Seidio works great.

TPD Gear Black Executive Case [updated with pictures!]

http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-Executive...I&otn=2&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=787021242547809834
I just ordered one of these on ebay from TPD Gear. It should come in a couple days and I'll post a review. This one looks promising, if its similar to the Senyx one I bought but with clips instead of straps.
Here's my quick and dirty review and some photos (see posts 9 and 10):

Actually looks like a good economical option. Do chime in when you get yours.
Does anyone else have one of these???
i was looking into this one as well. looking forward to the review
Mine should be here shortly:

Okay, I fess up. I got tired of the slippage issue with the official Acer case. I can literally with a few gentle shakes get my A500 free of the case now. Therefore I ordered the TPD case. It looks like it will be the least bulky of the choices.
But I still state my version of the dream case would be the union of thinness of the Acer to the lock tab tray of the TPD.

You'd better hurry. My tracking says tomorrow, Thursday, and I'm posting if no one beats me to it.
First set of photos.
So I just got the case tonight, so this is more or less a first impression of it.
First thing I noticed is that its bulkier than my Senyx folio case, but a little more compact. It's actually really close to the dimensions of the A500, so there's not a lot of edge margin along the perimeter of the case and the tablet itself, as there is on the other case. That said, if you look at my second set of photos on the next post, you'll see that with the tablet in the Senyx case, its really close the same thickness as the TPD case.
The material looks good, and has very little odor, which I imagine will go away like it did on my other case. The stand function is quite functional and very well designed, as it doesnt fold in on itself like other cases do, so structurally the case doesnt really bend too easily. The one gripe I can forsee is that the slots that hold the tablet when in stand mode may slip over time, but we'll see.
An elastic band binds the case together when its being transported, as you can see in the second set of photos. This works well enough, and keeps the profile very flat.
Now, on to the main reason I bought this -- the clips that hold the Tablet in. I really do not like the pouch-design that the other cases use because the tablet can slip fairly easily in it. The Senyx case uses straps along the corners and I've noticed that these straps have stretched already in the 2.5 weeks I've used it so it also does slip sometimes. These clips work wonderfully. They feel like they have some rubber material coated on them so it would help alleviate scratching to the tablet, but it was a bit difficult to put on at first and to take off. I think you are suppose to slide it in from the bottom.
The clips DO block the SD slot slightly!!!! It's just a tad too long, and it blocks the very end of the port making it, so far, not able to open while attached to the clips.
As far as weight goes, its a little bulkier as I mentioned because of an added layer which acts as the rear leg in kickstand mode, and this adds roughly 0.40 lbs when compared to the Senyx case. Both of these are heavier than the Acer OEM case.
--added one more thing-- I just noticed that in kickstand mode, there's speaker cutouts hidden under the kickstand in folio mode. Pretty awesome
OK -- sorry this was quick and dirty.
So far so good though!
second set of photos -- the last couple are the Senyx folio case. Also a nice pick.
Looks nice, but also looks like it adds a fair bit of bulk, thought not as much as the Targus model.
The Acer case isn't perfect, but is low impact on the foot print.
Your thoughts?

I just wrote a quick write-up on it in post 9.
I had the Acer case and I hated it. It's very slim, but I couldnt stand it as I felt it degraded the overall look and quality of my tablet. This case is definitely a lot bulkier then the Acer case and the Senyx case. I like the clips though -- The Senyx case with clips would be ideal for me, since I do not care for the kickstand function as much -- I have the Arkon stand already.
Im more interested if you took these pics and did this write-up while "breaking bread with the porcelin god".

lol. it was the brightest area i could find to take pics quickly near my room.
didnt even notice the toilet....haha. thanks for the w/u and pics.
this case its tops on my list so far....
Got my TPD case today. It has very good contruction quality. It looks great and in the scope of its design it works very well as intended.
Since the components are all synthetic materials, it has an odor to it when brand new. That was easily dealt with, though, by a healthy dose of fabric freshener.
I love the plastic holder tray that is sewn into the case. It holds the device in place with a snap (pun intended) of authority and allows a nice view of the shiny toy it cradles so well. As mentioned in previous comments, the top bracket tab overlaps the SD card slot door. However, I don't see that as a show stopper. Unless you are using multiple SD cards to manage media, you won't need to bother with it much. I feel that if needed, the tab could be modified without any real impact to it's retention ability.
Other than that matter, the holder tray allows full access to all other ports and switches with no troubles.
I am not enamored of the extra bulk the case adds. But practically every case of this type has that issue to one degree or another. The Iconia already has significant thickness and this case adds to that in full measure. I'll take a few days with the case to see if I can live with it.
The case also makes the Iconia less comfortable to hold in portrait, at least to me. I do use it in portrait quite a bit, almost as much as landscape, but I'm willing to admit my use scenario is different from others. After all, all these tablets are designed primarily for landscape, so there you go. In landscape, especially when using it in easel mode, it is terrific.
In summary, it may not be perfect, but it is a very good option if you are looking for an executive folio type case that is also a landscape easel stand.
timehunter said:
So I tried the TPD for a few days. Its good, but the bulk and added weight was too much for me. I suspect the same for the Targus model. I'm back to the Acer case with some 3M Command double sided stickies to keep it in place.

Anybody think like me, that by the time we have all bought multiple cases to try them out, and then discard them because they have a fault or two, we could have just stumped up the shocking price of the pdair case and had done with it

lol ya. i was able to return the acer case at least. but i do have two cases now. luckily my co-worker might be getting one of these tablets so i might sell it to him for a reduced price.
the TPD case is a bit heavy, but im starting to like it alot. there are times when i take the tablet out of the case when im going to be holding it for long periods of time, but it works great on the table or on my lap.
just got in my case today.... It is a little bulky, but exactly what i was looking for

Blurex slim case

Hey I just ordered the Blurex slim case off of amazon this past weekend and just received it yesterday. All I can say is this is exactly what I'he been waiting for. All ports/slots are accessible and very secure and slim fit. This is my second case. I originally bought the Targuss case and found it too bulky. Check it out you won't be disappointed. I would post a link, but because this is only my third posting, I am not allowed.
You mean this one I think: http://www.amazon.com/BLUREX-Leathe...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1311197031&sr=1-1
Looks to be exactly what I would want from a case, but can't find it anywhere in the EU region as always
Yes that's it. And I got it for $ 19.99 us currency. $25 shipped to my door.
Wow, they brought the price up already. I just got it for 33.00 out the door. It looks like what I have been looking for. In the review, besides the slimness, the reviewer mentioned folding the cover back and holding the Acer like a book. That was my only complaint over the roocase I have now. If this cover is what i hope it to be, I will be returning the roocase.

You can flip it vertically like a book.
So I like this case and proceeded to checkout and they tell me that the item won't ship to Canada !!
Bought stuff from there ( amazon.com ) before and shipped no problem...which tells me that this item might be ship from somewhere else with Canada being one of the restriction.

Please let me know if you'd like photos of anything specific on the case.

As far as I can tell it does not ship outside of the U.S. Big shame because this looks like the best case so far =/
To the folks who have it, when you flip the cover all the way back to "hold it like a book" as the reviewer in Amazon states, it probably covers the speakers right? How well can you hear thru it when it is put in that position?

Quick question. I got this case a couple of days ago. I really like how its shaped. It conforms to the curves of the tablet exactly. All the ports are accessible including the SD card port. I have two issues though and tell me if you agree. Since I saw the post and pictures of the guy who dropped his and got it smashed up, this case doesn't protect the corners very well from a drop if the case falls and lands on the corners. Also the tab that clips on to the tablet to close the case doesn't wrap around the bevel of the case completely. It keeps the case closed, but it looks like it barely is. Im wondering if this where loosen over time and use. Other than that, I really like the case. Especially the quality of build and how thin it is. Check out the pictures and you can see what I mean about the corners.

Just received this case today for my wifes tab. Overall it is a very nice case, with great build quality. It is thin, with a low profile unlike the Targus leather case sold at BB. My only complaint is that in order to position the screen into one of the viewing angles, the tab must be pushed out of the bottom tab holders. It's not a big deal, but I did find myself fumbling with it slightly.

I just got mine today and yes, holding it in that position would cover the speakers. If you can imagine holding a thick piece of leather over the speaker, that's how it would sound.
If that doesn't bother you then I highly recommend this case. I've owned the Acer one and I have a gtablet with a cover and this one is hands down better than those and others I have seen so far. The case is very snug. As a matter of fact I had difficulty putting it on as well as taking it off. I can't imagine mt tab ever falling out of it accidently even though the tabs that hold it in are so small.
It's also very slim profile. Doesn't add much bulk to the tablet. Also, if this is fake leather, they've done a pretty good job as I can't tell.

Turned a hard cover book into a case- comments?

So I wanted a case that looked like an actual book, and I could only find ones for ipad and e-readers. So, I went to the local thrift shop, picked up a hilarious hard cover book, gutted it and turned it into a cover for my Tab 10.1
Now, I haven't finished the final gluing or figured out a practical way that I can make it a stand(maybe you have some suggestions?). As for making it a stand, I don't want to add to the thickness, but still want it to be easy enough to prop up.
The pictures are attached.
Just wanted to add one more thing: MMMM! Blender recipes! Bet you never thought of that!
This is... cool I'm looking for a good case for a while now. The size seems to fit quite good. Probably gonna try it for myself
I thought about doing this a long time ago, but never found the right book. I just can't see using a recipe book, maybe a gun cleaning manual, something a bit more manly.
As for making it stand, rubberized tape on the corners, simple to do.

Well the book is partly to protect from would-be thieves. Who would steal a book of blender recipes?
Also, rubberized tape? Would that hold up to furious tapping? I also wanted it to be able to do very low angles too, so I figured I needed some sort of Velcro or string solution...
Velcro would work, at least for a bit. Look at how commercial cases work and find a solution you think you can duplicate. I always end up putting my glasses case under the thing for elevation even with the commercial case I use. As far as thieves goes, that was why I thought a gun cleaning manual might deter them.
ok so this is something that confuses me why does everyone that buys a non ipad tablet have to buy a folder/folio style case, what about some of us that want a case that just has grip on the back for holding while slouching on the couch? i found only one brand for the galaxy tab 10.1, the gumdrop and its $50, looks nice but come on i want choices . and btw OP this actually looks really cool, just has no use to me lol.

The point of having a case is so that the tablet is protected when you are carrying it around and ideally to act as a stand when you want to prop it up. I prefer having it out of the case when I am using it normally, but on the road it's great to have a case.
As for gripping it when laying on the couch, I don't feel the need for any extra case/grip. That would just make it more bulky. Is it too slippery for you or something?

I thought about doing this a long time ago, but never found the right book. I just can't see using a recipe book, maybe a gun cleaning manual, something a bit more manly.
As for making it stand, rubberized tape on the corners, simple to do.

Considering you're stuck in the 1950s, I'll one up you: if you need a manual, it's not "manly."
Nice case OP. I'm sticking with the vipertech clip case for functionality (same as pyroskins and atech), and still available on amazon for <$15...
Great idea. Though I find my 10.1 a little too big to carry around, it's mostly used for in-bed browsing.
I usually carry my Nook Tablet that uses a B&N book cover. It's great for carrying around inconspicuously.
Here's an idea: you can also glue/double-side tape one of those cheap ebay $6-10 TPU cases to a hollowed out book cover. It could look like a factory job -- and be unobtrusive and secure. 3M indoor/outdoor mounting tape should work well.

Unfortunately that would prevent me from easily taking the tab out of said case. At home I don't really need a case, it's just when I am out and tossing it into a bag or something.

Actually yes it is slippery on the back, and i do not ever wish to prop up my tablet i have a tv for watching videos and i rarely take it out of the house so i dont need to protect the front
That's pretty nifty. I will be trying this once I find a thrift store. I've got some ideas I want to try now.
Plus one OP
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
so funny! I like it!
While I'd never be able to give up my leather folio case for traveling, if I found the right donor book, I'd definitely use this when I'm just around the house and in my office. Thanks for the awesome idea OP

There are a variety of silicone skins you could use for better grip
great idea! the perfect book for this would be a hardcover Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy... the possibilities are endless - I'm off to the used book store!

I'm picking up my smart cover from PC world in a few hours daddy lent me the £19.99 till the weekend when I get paid lol
Not sure where u are but try PC world or curry's website (same shop really but ether site works as its the same site just different names) and if you not in UK try. evga.com
They have replacement styles there too
And eBay has scream protector's gorlor
The problem is I live in germany, so I can't go for newegg or pcworld
And while i would consider buying it for 30 (altough i think this is ALOT for a cover), 40+ postage to germany would be too much.
But thanks anyway for the ebay link, didn't find this myself, will keep an eye on it.

tegra note 7 Slide cover video review
Here is my video review and unboxing of my tegra note 7 Slide Covers for my tablets. Have had the slide covers for about a week now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlqzSDhDOG4&
I have two slide covers and for my third tablet will look for a third party case just to have something different. I am happy with the slide cover though.
I think Nvidia has changed the procedure wholesalers are releasing these tablet, in that the flap cover in already installed on the tablet. Example the EVGA I got today has the flap cover already installed.

There have been bundle deals in India and Japan where the cover had been sold with the tablet.

Yeah. I think that initially people had such trouble getting the flaps in that they maybe doing it wholesaler wide to install the flaps. Example people were scratching their cases, to breaking the flap pin and socket hinges, due to how tight the grip was.
I hope they're still including the small insert for when you're not using the cover... I don't care for that nasty edge left without anything in the slot. For the record, I insert and remove my cover frequently (I like it for protection but don't care for using the tablet with it on as it's harder to grip), and it does get easier, though I usually have to use something like fingernail clippers to remove the small insert, and that's caused a lot of little scratches in that area. It's a shame they used such a soft and cheap plastic for these things, but hey, you get what you pay for, and I'm definitely not complaining considering the punch this little $200 tablet packs. Now bring on the KitKat so I can fall in love all over again!
I really like the flap cover. Great to close it and your tablet goes into power saving mode.
Anyone tried other third party case ? Found one with an affordable price ($13 rather than $30) with complete protection on http://www.amazon.com/MiTab-Leather-Cover-Rotational-Nvidia/dp/B00GOQIODO/ . There are two 5-star reviews . What do you guys think about them?
Almost bought the original evga slide cover. It's double the price and the reviews said they are flimsy and not reliable. Found the third party case and canceled the original evga slide cover order straight away.
And one more thing, should I buy a screen protector? Or will the case alone do the trick?
I kind of like the cover, but it does feel a bit flimsy, and I'm not sure about the big silver 'Tegra Note' bit of detail. I've also had the holding pins ping out once already, and I've only had it a day!
Has anyone managed to get it working successfully at a shallow angle for typing too? The magnet system works fine for propping it up for watching movies etc, but if I try and use it in the 'wedge' configuration for typing, it just collapses with any pressure.
Update:
Found it in ebay uk for 30 now.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EVGA-Tegra-Note-7-Official-Genuine-Slide-Cover-Case-New-/151227559256
Still more then 40€ for a simple cover, but is seems like the only choice for now.

Indeed! I noticed that too straight away... it doesn't stay well in that "wedge" configuration. It works better if you stick it to the magnets closest to the hinge (there are two sets of magnets in the tablet), but it's still not that great.
I really want to like the cover, but I like to palm my tablet in one hand while walking around with it, and that annoying silver hinge is just too flappy and annoying. I think I'm just going to get a neoprene slip case to transport it around with.
Nice but very expensive... Anything around 10$?
Do all of these work OK with The Advent Vega..?
