Any tips on mounting this thing in win7 x64?

It seems like a craps shoot for me if windows will recognize it... hell sometimes my notification bar tells me usb is connected but doesn't give me options to turn it on or off... and this is all with USB set to mass storage... is there possibly something I am doing wrong?
Like sometimes it hooks up without any issues, other times windows sees it, but after a few minutes says its failed to install a MTP USB device, so I have tried pointing it at the location where the sammy USB drivers were installed but nothing... I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers and manually switching them to other random things...
sometimes a reboot of the comp works it out, but other times it doesn't... I have the feeling I am just missing something...

Same here, except i'm on WinXp SP3. Get USB connected icon in notification bar of Vibrant, but windows task tray says failed to install device.
Looks like iffy drivers to me. Since samsung apps isn't available in the US yet, is there somewhere else we can get Kies?

That's the same thing I have tried installing a few dozen times before... still won't work.

There are multiple notifications you have to deal with on the phone. Took me a while to figure it out, too.
First you have to pick the mode you connect to W64 in (Mass Storage), then you actually have to mount the internal memory and card as drives for W64 to see them. This is all in the Notification bar on your phone. Just because you see the USB icon does NOT mean you are supposed to be connected.
THEN you get the "What do you want to do with this?" from Windows.
I got so tired of all the confirmations I just installed Dropbox. Now if I want a file on the phone I just drop it into my Phone Stuff directory and pick it up on my phone. No USB cable, no WiFi, just grab it and go.
If you're looking to xfer over a big batch of media files there is DoubleTwist and several other apps like it that will do so over WiFi.

Well I am installing dropbox because this is getting ridiculous... after a fresh flash it mounted once, then after that it wouldn't ever again. I tell it to mount to my computer and everything, but the computer just shows an icon that it is trying to install the drivers and never does... Come on samsung, stop being so proprietary...

Wow guys I didn't have any problems at all. USB Mass Storage worked the first time and it keeps working. Where I encounter problems is when I set it to USB Debugging then it doesn't get recognized.
ETA: I'm on Windows 7 x64 with all the current updates.

My windows is 32bit XP, but try this trick i've discovered, may be it will help. Say into voice dialer "Open SD card" -> check "Enable USB mass storage". Let's know how it works

Hey Degeneration, you can also install the Android SDK.
Unfortunately I can't post external links until I'm validated by a mod, but if you google "screenshot vibrant" (w/o the quotes) it should be the top link.
The domain is know your cell dot com and it has links to the Android SDK and the Java SE SDK in the instructions to take screenshots of your Vibrant.
I personally think you should try this because your phone may be defective. I'm running W7-64 Pro and didn't have to do anything to get the phone and the PC to see each other.

Wow I had no idea people were having this issue. I'm running Win 7 Ult. x64 and for me it was just plug in and go. When I was rooted on my G1 I had a similar issue but using USB Debug and the Android SDK fixed that. hope you get it figured out.

I installed the drivers before ever plugging the phone in. I also have had SDK, adb, and Odin3 ready before plugging it in. When I first got it I immediateness set it to mass storage and didn't have a problem. Then when I started messing with it more I started having trouble every once in a while with it mounting, to the point that now it works every once in a while, mostly right after a fresh flash. Personally I think it's a combo of both the phone and the computer doing crap, but it's pretty lame. I don't even remember installing drivers for my G1, and definitely nothing else and I never had an issue with it. I don't see why samsung can't kiss a little butt or pay a little money to have windows recognize the phone and be able to install the drivers from the net. Now if the problem was just for people messing with their phones it would be one thing, then it's on me. But last night I was running stock again and it only worked the first time it connected, but I forgot to switch to mass media so I disconnected, switched, reconnected, and nothing. Tried switching back and same thing...
Constantly just keep getting told at best that windows failed to install an MTP (or whatever, I just closed the thing in the notification area and when I tried reconnecting the USB cable I got the phone just telling me USB is connected but giving no options) device failed to install...
bah... oh well

win7 pc can't find acer a500

acer a500 is FLEXREAPER R10 4.0.22
pc is win7 64-bit professional. acer usb driver has installed on pc.
yet, when i connect pc and a500 with usb wire, i can't see anything shown on pc. no mobile equipment, no u-key, nothing.
could someone do me a favor to tell me how to solve.

Not sure what flavor of win 7 you're running or what your host machine is. BUT...
If you have windows 7 professional, and have a Intel Sandybridge style processor (like I3-2310, I5-whatever, I7-whatever...), you have available to you bluetooth and WiFi enable with the Intel My WiFi Tech.
Turn on your bluetooth and Wifi on your tablet...
Goto start; devices; ADD device. It will look for it. It will find it either as a bluetooth or a WiFi compatible device. Then add your tablet. Give it a snappy name, so on.
I had similar problem, yypp. However, once my laptop recognized my tablet via bluetooth, the USB debugger then acknowledged it already stored as that bluetooth device.
There are work-arounds available to you. The bonus of adding it as a WiFi device is you can then tether the two to your smartphone as well for a PAN.

I tried to add the Acer drivers.
but for a strange reason, to install the driver, I have to install windows media player 11.
which is not possible under seven 64 Bits !
result : the instllation cancel the install, without telling a clear error message on the screen.
Acer could have limit the software installed without WMP 11
but canceling the install of the drivers itself when there is not WMP11, is not really good.
anyway, the tablet should be visible from scratch under windows Seven.
it is a pity.
my iphone (my previous HTC desire HD) are recognised imediatly on this computer.
so bad.
on my side, I didn't found any solution.

Your'e problem could have several causes. time to eliminate them:
Open up your windows start menu
enter "device manager" in your searchfield
(on other languages you could try: rightclick my computer, properties, and in the left pane there should be device manager).
now connect your iconia to your pc using the cable
1: if you see iconia tab with a white icon and an exclamtion mark in the list:
right-click it
in the first pane you should see the problem
in the second pane you can update drivers
if this is not working go to http://www.acer.nl/ac/nl/NL/content/drivers and download them again.
2: if you see your device popping up normaly (under media devices)
no problem... the problem consists with some part of your computer that needs the attention of a proffesional. go see your computer distributor
3: there's nothing in the list...
try connecting your tab using an other cable and try using the cable you have on another android device
Is your iconia showing info when you connect it? mine says debugging enabled and iconia sync.
you could ultimately try to plug your tab in to an other pc or boot up linux and try to connect your device from there... on www.ubuntu.com you can download a cd that can be used to try the system without install.

I have a 64 bit windows 7 with windows media player 12,
please note that the device is recognised by windows as a Stand-alone Media Device...........
like the old active sync cellphones did. iconia connects to your computer using windows media player.
if you are terrified about this do it like me:
go buy a usb-disk
put everything you want on your tab on it
plug it in to the tab
install "ES File explorer"
browse the contents of your usb drive and copy them over
PRO's:
get data everywhere, no need to install drivers on your friends computers
you can't copy virusses from windows pc's to your tab's hidden sectors when having such a bridge, unless they are in the mp3's you move.
faster speed since the connection speed with windows media device sync is very slow.
CONS
takes some time to put it on the disk and to grab it from it...
other thingy
when you are in the same network as your computer you could try to copy them over using the network feature in ES File Explorer. just like network places in windows.

Cannot connect Lumia 950 to Windows 10 PC

I could not connect my Lumia 950 to a Windows 10 PC using the data cable the phone came with.
When I connect them the phone asks if I want to enable "data connection" I push yes. The PC is installing some 950 firmware or driver but nothing happens. I cannot reach the phone. Any idea?

I could do it before, but now it's impossible, as if drivers were wrong. I reinstalled them and rebooted, but in vain

On Win 10 64bit my 950 XL are shown in Device Manager under USB Devices but not seen in to Explorer, on Win XP 32bit can see my phone in Explorer but it is not installed properly in Device Manager.
That's ridiculous Microsoft are not able to get communicate their own devices easily by massive usage of windows worldwide.

Another way to "troubleshoot" is to just disable or uninstall the device, and then re-scan for all devices, and it'll re-install it fresh (make sure you check the "uninstall drivers" if you try the un-install route).
That said, on recent Release Ring builds, USB is really, really flaky, to the point where even grabbing a few pictures is much easier over WiFi. I assume this will get fixed (it worked fine earlier, and I "upvoted" the issue wherever I could find it), but in the meantime, even if you're connected, enumerating folders/files can take a really, really long time (along with other operations on them), and often crashes the W10 explorer.exe process. The process recovers, and IME if you try enough times, you can get the files this way, but it's quite painful...

I had this problem but it was caused by a targus hub. When I plugged the 950 directly into my PC, and not into the hub, the problem went away. PC recognized 950, folders showed up in seconds. Could be USB-C incompatibility with hub?

Yeah i've got the same thing. So now it works on USB 3.1 typa A or C, but not on my USB 2.0 and 3.0

PC wont recognize device for file transfer

Just recently i tried to transfer for the first time, some wallpapers to my phone, and when i plug in the usb, the phone starts to charge normally but i cannot figure out why i cant transfer files from pc to phone or vice versa.
When i plug it in, it gives me the option to select what to "Use USB for", but when i select either MTP (file transfers) or PTP (transfer photos or files), nothing happens. I cannot browse the phone to pick anything at all.
When i go to device manager on PC i see under Portable devices the name of my phone (Moto G4 Play) but it has an exclamation point next to it. I have tried to uninstall and re-install or even update the driver but it will remain this way (if i click its propierties it tells me "This Device cannot start. Code 10"
Is there anything else i can do either on my phone or pc to make this work?
Other info:
Already downloaded motorola device manager to see if it would help but nope.

I don't think there are compatible drivers for Windows XP..

Long term support for WinXP ended three whole years ago. Though what I noticed with CM and Lineage is that the first time the phone is set up, it won't enable MTP even if checked. You have to reboot the phone and then MTP will actually enable properly.

Also, it may happen with 3rd party cables too. I myself faced this issue with Boat Indestructible cable, then I used the original cable that came with phone and successfully done it. But I still can't understand, how that cable can transfer data to/from other phones....

Just another bit of info:
Today while trying to make it work, i updated the driver from the Device Manager again and somehow i could access the phone as intended.
The problem is that after a few seconds, the window closes on its own! Then i have to redo the whole process and It gives me access again but every time, after a few seconds, the browsing window closes on its own!
I have tried with other cables and no dice, tried also rebooting phone and pc and also tried plugging it to all available usb ports. Any other tip or method i can try?

Try another pc to discard things (so you know if it's the pc or the phone)

My PC doesn't recognize my Nexus 7 2013

I have an Asus Nexus 7 tablet that over a year ago I rooted and flashed and maybe a few other things, I don't fully remember, but I did get it to run the Nitrogen OS successfully, and since then I've used it with no problems. But the other day I plugged it into my PC via USB cable as I always do when I want to load a movie or whatever, and this time my PC refused to have anything to do with it. Immediately upon plugging it into my desktop's USB 3.0 (2.0 port does the same thing) I get this Windows 10 notification: "USB Device Not Recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." When I check under Device Manager I see a yellow triangle warning under Universal Serial Bus controllers that says, "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)." And that's as far as I can go. There is no mention of ASUS, Nexus, or Android anywhere else in Device Manager. I've checked under all the headings.
It seems Windows 10 knows something has been connected when I plug in via USB but it doesn't know what to do with the device. I've searched the Internet high and low for a solution but nothing works. Here's what I've tried:
1) Uninstalled the yellow triangle error driver from Device Manager, checked for new hardware, got the yellow triangle back.
2) Tried updating driver but "You have the latest driver installed."
3) Tried installing USB driver from Google and "the operation completed successfully" but the problem remains even after reboot.
4) Went to Developer Options and ensured USB debugging is turned on and MTP is selected in USB Configuration. When I turn USB Debugging on and off with the Nexus connected via USB, Windows 10 reacts, but only to tell me with each change that I have an "unknown USB device attached," basically all the original error messages. I get the same errors whether I'm set for MTP or Camera or charge only or any of the other options.
5) Learned others have found a bad cable can cause my problem so I located three spare cables around the house and none worked. So I ordered a fresh new data cable from Amazon which arrived today -- but the problem remains.
6) I have a triple-boot PC. All three OS installations are Win10 but installed separately on different drives -- one of them is from the Microsoft Insider program, so should be the latest and greatest -- but I have the exact same problem on all three.
7) Wondered if maybe Linux would work so tried Knoppix live boot disk and even did a full installation of Zorin on a separate HDD. Neither version of Linux recognized that any Android device was attached. I even ran a "find-mtp" Linux program but it saw nothing.
8) Installed Wondershare Mobile Go and Syncios Data Transfer -- both are programs for dealing with Android devices via USB on a PC -- and neither sees my Nexus. And I guess there's no way they could as the Nexus doesn't appear in Device Manager.
8) Reset the Nexus to factory settings. All my apps and so forth are gone but the problem remains exactly the same.
I've been at this for about a week now so there are probably other things I've tried and forgotten about but nothing has worked. If I had another Android device I'd see if the computer recognizes it via USB but I don't have one. Maybe I can get a friend to help me out. I'm grasping at straws.
One more thing -- I don't remember whether I've ever before communicated with this Nexus on my current computer. In May of this year my old Asus MBO failed and I've built a new computer around an Asus Prime X299-A. It's working great, its USB ports are giving me no problems with anything else I throw at them, but I'm wondering of maybe I've got something set wrong in BIOS (UEFI). I've gone through every USB setting I can find in BIOS and no changes offered seem appropriate. But I've tried them this way and that with no apparent effect. And as I said, USB 3.0 and 2.0 are working great for everything else.
And when I wrote that last paragraph it hit me that I should try the spare PC I keep in a closet. Duh. So,
9) Tried a different PC, a spare Win10 system I built from spare parts from my old system plus an el cheapo MBO. This is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT COMPUTER -- but the problem is exactly the same.
It can't be the Nitrogen OS -- I just can't go there. It's been working perfectly for over a year, no glitches whatsoever. How could it suddenly decide to stop connecting via USB? I've pulled all my hair -- totally bald now, but that didn't work either. Any other ideas? Anybody? Toss the Nexus in the trash? That would be no fun. And it does work, though with the factory reset I've erased all the kids movies I was keeping on it for the young ones who occasionally visit and I have no way to put them back. I dunno what to try next ....

Other things to try
Windows 7 or better yet XP
Disable your anti-virus on your pc
Make sure usb debugging turned on for the tablet.
Use an app like drivedroid to see what usb setting work with your phone. (Not what the app is meant for, but the settings wizard is pretty helpful.)
Worst case:
Use the Nexus Root Kit to unroot and return the device to factory image, then reroot and install latest twrp and image of your choice.

Upon plugging in the Nexus to the Win 7 machine, on the Nexus you swipe down to see a menu for USB options, which defaults to Charging. Then you set it to File Transfers, and Windows autoplay then asks what you want to do, one option of which is "Open Device to View Files". That is Windows 7, which works! In Windows 7 the Nexus 7 appears in Device Manager under Portable Devices.
Windows 10 Professional, which I have on my XPS 13 9370, does not even acknowledge that there is a device connected under Portable Devices. Under Unknown Devices, when right-clicking to Update Driver and choosing among those for Portable Devices, there are many MTP devices from 4 manufacturers including Microsoft (including Kodak 4800 Digital Camera) but none of them load. I get "The device cannot start. (Code 10)". I've read that the correct one is "MTP USB Device" but neither that one nor any MTP device driver loads. Stuck!!

I replied earlier but being lazy I didn't log in so here we go again so you'll see I'm the OP. My Win10 Pro desktop recognizes my Nexus 7 nicely since I halfway pried the back off the Nexus and then snapped it back in place. Yep, that's all it took. Apparently something was loose or misaligned inside the Nexus and just fiddling with it fixed it. Yay.

Your issue is not similar to the OP who had no connectivity at all in different PCs.
The issue is the driver in your case, may be a clash of drivers. Install USBDview in the PC and using it, uninstall every driver related to USB. Don't worry, since Windows will reinstall any driver needed as and when the peripherals are connected. Restart the PC and disable 'driver signing' and any antivirus program including Windows Defender. Now connect the tab and check if the correct drivers are installed and the tab is recognised. If not, try to update the driver in Device Manager. If even that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall Windows.
