[Q] TOTALLY new to Motorola, Bravo... Android! - Bravo General

Im in the process of waiting to get my semi new Motorola Bravo from ATT.
Im new to the whole Android, touch screen, App community and I have some questions.
Does this phone work with ITunes products?
You can lock the phone/screen so small children dont touchy, touch, right?
I found the Android Store but are there other reliable places to get "Apps"?
Another post said Bravo is not compatible with Amazon. True?
Where can I find movies that I can pay for to own? Again seen Android Store but those are rentals.
Im sure there are more questions but I cant think of them...

It's not an Apple product so I wouldn't assume it works with Apple products such as iTunes. You don't need iTunes or other Apple products for this phone, though. There are other ways to do those things.
Yes, you can choose to lock the screen and/or assign a pass code, password, or pattern for the security lock as well. Once you get more knowledge on the Android community and how to "root" your phone you will be able to do so much more. You can read about all of that in the 4 different forums and all the threads in them.
The Android "Market" is the only "Android" "app store," but there are other ways to get apps and whatnot that you can research. Those methods are also in all of the threads.

Stock, the Bravo is not compatible with Amazon (well, it is, AT&T just disables it). However, if you root your phone, and then install the https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bandroidx.nmaenabler&feature=search_result Non-Market App enabler by bandroidx, then you can take advantage of the free Amazon apps!

Someone to port The Impossible Game onto Android

Hi there,
You may know of The Impossible Game (couldn't post a link due to restrictions), which has been one of the best selling Xbox Live Indie Games and has remained in the top ten since its release. It was also released on iPhone and Apple chose it as "App of the Week" and it reached number two in paid apps in the US and Canada.
Well now's your opportunity to get in on it, because I'm looking for someone to make it for Android! I can provide all the graphics and music, and snippets of code that will help to build the engine. Essentially I'm looking for an exact clone of the iPhone app on Android.
So why am I getting someone else to do it? After already making TIG twice I'm not up for making it again, and I have other projects I want to work on. We'll split revenue 70-30 (you get 30%), and considering the success it's had so far this could be a very good opportunity for you.
If you're interested please email me at info AT flukedude.com, showing all your past work related to games, and we can discuss this further.
Thanks,
-Ed
Are you talking about the impossible level game? If so, its already on android.

No this is a different game. See flukedude DOT COM
oh that game. how are you going to port it over? android is a touch screen device. even for those phones with keyboard (Droid etc) i think it would still be rather unwieldy.

What are you talking about?? The only thing that the game needs is a touch screen! No buttons. So why do you think that it couldn't be played on android devices? It can be played even on an iPhone!
Oh right. My bad. I thought it was this impossible multitask game.
This game is a must for android ! It has an amazing concept and an amazing soundtrack anyone can easily spend hours playing it it would be amazing if it were transfered
ok so what your saying is you want someone to build this game(well port it over) and then you want to make all the money from it while leaving the person who ported the game a measly 30%? shouldnt it be the other way around...like you get 30% and they get 70%?

Spread out apps...

Hello XDA,
This is a combination of an angry rant as well as a question (hence why I decided to put it in General and not Q&A). Why the hell is the application so spread out and lacking for tablets when it can run them?!
For example when I do a search on the Android Market for "Worms" (EA Games game) I have three choices only one of which works for my Infuse 4G but none work on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 that blows the Infuse out of the water (spec wise).
This is also true for Gameloft games. There is no option to download it for my tablet directly from them, but a simple google search gives me sites where I can download the Game Data and the APK and get these (and the market apps) to run perfectly on my Galaxy Tab.
This is a huge problem that I can can get the games, and having them working on my tab via sideloading and blatant pirating, but am unable to get them via the marketplace. Personally this is a fault of Android. I love how open it is, and how it allows for its users to do almost anything they want, but it is also a massive problem. I should be able to go the market and find ANY game or application that will work on my Tablet without having to pirate them due to the lack of support.
Maybe it's just me, but do you guys feel that this shouldn't be needed and is a problem of Android?
As I stated before, I do. I'm a techie so going to a website and getting this is no problem for me, but I gave the Tab as a gift to my mother, she would not be able to understand what to do and would be limited by the marketplace and upset when she can't find the application she wants.
Meh, it might just be me.
1. The apps were not designed for tablets so why should they work? Tablets and phones are two completely different devices.
2. Honeycomb 3.2 has added compatibility for most phone apps.
To add insult to injury, it's also very annoying when the market says that the application is "incompatible" with my phone/tablet yet I can sideload and it works perfeclty. A part of me is starting to feel that the Market Place should be the ONLY place you can get applications, but one can offer their own market, kind of like how Amazon and Tegra Zone do it.

1.) Except as stated, I can sideload the application and it works PERFECTLY fine with no problem.
2.) Yes because that will solve the marketplace issue?
Also, I thought they were no longer manufacturing Xoom, Galaxy Tabs, etc... or so you so nicely said in the now deleted "quad core" thread.
Yeah, it's strange. It's on the developer, in the end, to mark the app as 3.x compatible, but I'm surprised so many opt out when they could be reaching a larger audience effortlessly. (Netflix, Facebook, many games...)

Yes production has stopped. The LTE units are just 3G units that have already been produced a LONG time ago, all they did was apply the LTE upgrade to it which was not ready in time for the 3G units launch and why they offer a free upgrade to 3G users.

Your stupidity makes my head hurt. I did research and no there has not been any stopped production, it was only rumor. Please note:
http://www.phonedog.com/2011/03/22/xoom-production-ending-soon/
http://www.talkandroid.com/34179-will-motorola-stop-production-of-the-xoom-not-likely/
and
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20046128-17.html , where it states: However, Motorola Mobility told CNET today that DigiTimes' claims are "not accurate" and that the company plans to continue producing the Xoom beyond June.
These all state it as a rumor that was debunked. Please provide evidence that Motorola has CONCRETELY stopped production, since everyone was up in arms about the new model for Verizon which turned out to just be the Xoom with 4G for a September launch.
But anyways, back to the topic on hand. Do you have anything useful to add or you going to continue to speak out of your ass and offer nothing to the topic of app spreading and poor consolidation of apps that say they don't work but truly do, or are you done since Netflix is a great example of one and completely debunked your initial approach?

Look at it from the developers point of view. The app isn't tablet ready. However, if they make available for tablets in the app store then the implication is that it is tablet ready. If the implication is that it's tablet ready then their customers who load it on a tablet will expect support when they load it on a tablet.
Even worse, look at the comments on apps that aren't tablet ready. They nag, whine and rip the author because it doesn't look or work right on a tablet.
If I were a developer and my app wasn't tablet ready I'd do everything possible to keep it off the app store for tablets.
If a customer side loads it then that's fine, they must support themselves.
Here's another reson it might not be available on the Google app store. There are multiple, competing app stores. Thank goodness for choice. Maybe an author has decided to give one of the other stores an exclusive for a period of time.
See? Many reasons why it's not there.
TabGuy,
I'm going to play Devil's Advocate.
Go download the Cartoon Netwoork Application. On the phone it is AMAZING, it allows for full episodes and clips and games, so it is a nice time passer when I want to relive my younger days or let my nephew play with it. You cn download it for the Galaxy Tab, but it is neigh unusable for the Tab due to only being in the small rectangle.
So this is contrary to your point and on for mine. This is an application that does not work for the Tab, for the most part, but is available via the marketplace, while applications that are typically are not optimized for the tab or stated as working do in fact for it and are NOT available on the marketplace.
While this may be the except and not the rule it is annoying and unacceptable that Google/Developers do this and questions the future of the Android Operatin System with regards to the experience as the end user...especially against other Tablet OSes that have a centralized place to get applications that do work for the device.
Rydsmith,
I hear ya. Many developers don't have customer service skills and simply don't care how their app looks on a tablet and how many bad comments they'll get. Others try to protect their brand and want their customers have the best possible experience.

Tmobile US HTC HD2 on Cowboom Starting at $130

Just wanted to share this with the family...... I love the HD2
Here is a link to the deal...
Now that is a deal!
I am seeing 139.99 now.
that's a great deal, but bad for me.
Stuff on Cowboom are used and you might not get the best looking device. Just a heads up to people buying. From past the description does not describe it well.
Sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA App
what is cowboom guys.. why wont they post real pics
I was about to buy one, but it took me just few secs to realize how bad reputation this site has among customers, all I been able to find was negative feedbacks.
So I decided to pass.
The fact that they're calling it an android phone should be a red flag in itself.
"may be missing parts or accessories"
lolwut?
then also reads "fully functional"
so if it's missing the digitizer and camera, I'm good to go.
"Android phone"?!?
oh my...
If anyone is curious, here is how some things get to Cowboom.
First they start off here
http://www.bestbuytradein.com/bb/
Then go here
http://www.dealtree.com/
Then here
http://www.cowboom.com
They can also be returned items to Best Buy that the vendor will not accept back.
Many times they are reffered to Key-Outs, Inventory Adjustments or Write Offs.
Sometimes vendors like Apple will say "We'll give you credit on 50,000 items this year and that is it" and after that they will no longer take things back. They may also have in their sales contract that they will not sell certain items "open box" in store as it tarnishes the brand, so bestbuy has to go through sites that they own like dealtree and cowboom to liquidate the items.
In case y'all arnt following the HD2 development, which obviously y'all have no reason to-but the HD2 has one of the top android developments on xda. We have hacked the phone to run over five different ooperating systems such as android and WP7. These are not buggy loaders, but all fully functional and dailies. Just check put the HD2 android development forum through my signiture and.check it out. We have every single base except Touch Wiz. Fully functional sense 3.5, android 4.0, you name it. I highly reccomend this phone for anybody who lobes playing around with all kinds of android builds/bases, WP7, W6.5, meego, and more.

Ouya vs google play store

I was following ouya development but I have to say its a surprise for me that I will not be allowed to play already bought games.
For me ouya was a nice looking google tv with pads, probably it will end up that way since devs will hack the living **** out of it Anyway the freemium/microtransaction model might be in conflict with the whole sourcy openness.
Who prefer cm based ouya rather than stock ouya market thingy?
I'm not to worried about it. The Kindle Fire have a closed system, but was able to get Play Store sideloaded. The Ouya is most likely going to get CM ported to it.
Sent from XDA app
yeah but the whole issue is to tweak pads controls so it will be useful on touch controlled apps. not sure if it will worm
It has sideloading, you just install Play like any other app. It's probably the 2nd or 3rd thing I plan on doing when I eventually get mine in
noted for future reference on my Note 2
This is going to be a great device to tinker with :victory:
Would just sideloading the play store .apk work?
From what I remember, the OUYA will only be running on Android - it won't have the Google apps framework. If that's the case, I think the Play Store by itself won't work unless gapps are installed as well. I'm sure that won't be hard to overcome (simply flash gapps.zip from recovery or something) but it's worth thinking about.
And on that note, if it's possible and/or necessary to flash gapps, do you think that will open up (easy) access to all Google apps on the OUYA? I'd love to see some kind of in-game chat through Babel or something. (Of course, that could be what's coming with the android games code found in the MyGlass app...)
GAPPS is just Google apps you can't download.
It may be possible to load the Play stare. Just depends all what it required to it to work. I don't know if there is something that has to be installed within the framework or not.
The bigger problem I see is that Google Play may not have listing for the Ouya and thus not a lot of apps will show up or be downloadable within Google Play if it did install.

that may be an issue for anything not delivered through the Ouya Store. I think if you want an idea what may happen, if you have another android device, rooted, and have Sixaxais App installed and Playstation3 synced, try running the app with it turned on.
.
Just get an mk908 Android mini pc, run all of the emulators, XBMC, Play Store, and Bluetooth PS3 controller. Oh, an air mouse also.
I have to say I am very underwhelmed and disappointed by my OUYA. Besides the fact that I had to look online to see how to even install the batteries in the controller because there was ZERO instructions in what's laughably called a manual, I had completely forgotten about the touch pad and spent a while trying to figure out why I couldn't play Saturday Morning RPG on it. I was really hoping to better the experience by either grabbing apps from GPS or worse case sideload them, but after reading the comments here and elsewhere I think I'm best off just using my phone and tablet for Google gaming and sell this so I can put the $ towards an Xbox One....now THAT is a "smart device" if I've EVER seen one!! :good:

I'd suggest you're the only person on earth who thought that the Xbox one looked like a smart device, it's been the laughing stock of the internet.
Ouya has it's own store, having the google play store would bankrupt the company being they would make no money and google would make it all...
I'm sorry you had so much trouble, but I can't say anyone else had issues figuring out these basics, what you have is not a retail product, you got an early version that is not ready for prime time on a software/manual level, so it's rather silly to expect a retail quality manual when it does not ship for another month to retail... we are beta testers, and I thought the fact that we were paying to BUILD it clued everyone in on that.

ha yeah, i hope he was being sarcastic. Xbox One is a joke....to gamers anyway
it looks good on the surface until you get to the details they didnt share at the conference
a few thoughts
- when i'm gaming, i'm gaming. i'm not switching to TV or Movies or IE every few minutes.
- not always online....but it has to check every 24 hrs (according to one report). what if u have no internetz or are in the military or my bro in law who cant get internet at his house (without paying thousands to have lines run)?
- pay a fee on top of the price you paid for a used game (need to hear gamefly & gamestops reaction)
- kinect always has to be connected. (also what if someone comes in the room & says "turn that XBOX OFF" there goes your progress.
- the exclusives are probably kinect titles for kids
- non-removable HDD (should be just in case of failure)
- indie developers cant self publish
- for our fellow earthlings, a lot of this wont work outside of US
- it's GINORMOUS!
- the XBOX ONE is so forward-thinking, it's not even backwards compatible with gamers.
anyway, finally got my distribution center email for my OUYA today.
reading up on all this stuff while bored at work.
I've shown a lot of people the Ouya, most of them actually wanted one after seeing all of the things it would do. I've had a few who just don't get it and I understand it's not for everyone, but what does kill me are the ones who are like "ok so it plays movies at 1080P and XBMC is nice and all, but why would I pay $99 for something to watch movies and play a few phone games".. .the facepalm comes in when I find out they say this while owning an AppleTV.

so what all have you tinkered with so far, just trying games or some other more complicated things.
basically i want to know where to start when i get mine. should i try some games or sideload some other stuff on it, etc
Sideloaded Emulators, Web Browsers, Onlive, etc..
put the Amazon app store on so I could load up Opera Mobile, Dolphin and Maxthon browser, as well as file explorer..
you can sideload apps without any external tools if you just use the built in browser to download then go to the settings menu, storage, downloads and you can launch an APK from there.
the one thing to know is that all sideloaded apps go to the developers MAKE section.. but most stuff I've loaded runs well, still hoping to get my hands on a generation 2 googletv netflix apk.

I disagree 100% in that the op will be indicative of most general consumers that buy this at retail stores. That said, common sense suggests the retail units will have clear and concise guides as soon as you open the box. None the less, most retail buyers are going to balk at a proprietary market.
Their model depends on it, but most consumers will not care about that and will expect a simple, easy to start experience.
The bubble of this forum is not the best sample of tech knowledge level for mass market game systems. Lower the bar. If Ouya assumes otherwise, they may see good sales followed by a lot more returns than expected.

pissed abbout google play store and samsung appstore and espetially amazon appstore

pissed abbout google play store and samsung appstore and espetially amazon appstore
hy,
im not sure if im doing something wrong but the google appstore is very incoherent, i dont even want to mention the other stores.
i was trying for example, to find resident evil 4 on the samsung store but found streetfighter 4 instead witch i cannot find on the google store nor anywhere.
streetfighter 4 was, by all sources on google first only exclusive for LG devices and then was expanded to some devices in japan, so i shouldnt even see it.
but alright thats the samsung store i dont expect much of that anyway .. but the google store is the same crap basically.
i go on my samsung s4 in the appstore app i press the menu button and select my apps and i got two tabs one says installed the other all.
on the installed tab i should see all apps installed on my device regardless if i got them from the samsung store or any other source i could have also downloaded an apk and installed it manually.
the i open my browser and go to the google app store .. what do i got there? i have on the left a link to my apps now i am supposed to get all my apps listed there ... and also one has that little gear icon witch is there for settings on it there is an option saying MY ORDERS that lists everything i ever purchased from the google appstore.
now the issue is that in the list of my apps on the browser i dont have the same items as on the list that the mobile app store gives me i am missing believe it or not even GOOGLE VOICE SEARCH witch appears on my mobile.
now the most retarded thing about this hole thing is that i got on my device in the all tap listed 2 samsung apps witch are the SAMSUNG HUB and PHOTO EDITOR when i go into details on both i get a message saying this app is not compatible with your device.
i cannot find neither of these apps on the google app store when i use the search embeded in the store app.
if this is really the android system then i take a crap on it. IS IT SO HARD TO MAKE THING COHERENT... I CANNOT IMAGINE ANYTHING SIMPLER IN THE HOLE PROCESS OF DEVELOPMENT OF AN ANDROID SYSTEM. i dont want to get thrown to by all this trash produced by a bunch of different standards different appstores but as you can see also within each store itselt.
I SO REGREAD BUYING THE S4 ILL NEVER CHANGE FROM APPLE AGAIN.
is it really so that in the process of developing a system like android google or samsung or whoever just says ok ... we developed all the core stuff we dont care about the UI just get the thing ready for sale

No its you my friend youre just to ignorant to see that android I a cheap piece of crap compared to apple and the reason why youre ignorant is because you cant explain yourself how that is because its not a problem at all to change this
then get an apple..
I'll give you twenty of the currency of your choice for your S4 + cost of standard postage to me (if it were me, I'd choose Euros as they're worth the most relative to other currencies).
P.S - This is the least coherent thread I've read in my almost two years on XDA (and I've read literally tens of thousands of threads). For that, you should be congratulated. It reminds me of the rantings of a patient at a secure psychiatric facility detained involuntarily.
I came from apple and I love my gs4, it does way more stuff than an iPhone ever can. Sure there isn't much games on the app store but I don't use my phone for gaming, I use my phone as intended a “phone". if you want to play games go see if you can run across the street through rush hour traffic to get to the other side or play Russian roulette, your choice. Go buy an Xbox or a PlayStation end of story problem solved.

It reminds me of the rantings of a patient at a secure psychiatric facility detained involuntarily.

coherent means beeing related to each other in a unique form not 2 thinks being dependent on each other one way and the next 3 things on a different way.
You cannot treat apps on the play store on a different footage you canont have on diferent devices difrent funktionalities for what is supossed to be the same funktion.
This threat is the most coherent thing you have ever seen because it unifies in one hoherent writeing or threat all the issues noone wants to talk about on the other hand your everyday life is a incoherent think because you are running away from the through
P.s. youre a vierdo
Keep posting. You sound loopier the more you post (your last one reinforced the perception you created with your OP).
Edit - Also, thanks for responding to my post & not anyone else's. You've made me feel all speshul
You're fully entitled to your opinion and venting your frustration. However I genuinely have no idea what your posts mean. Stop being uncivilised to posters too. Their opinion is equally valid as yours.
