Hidden Samsung Keyboard feature? - Epic 4G General

Im on stock Ec05 and while looking at the keyboard setting i found an (kinda) interesting setting. Go to Setting>Locale and Text. Select the default keyboard to Samsung, then go to Samsung keypad settings, select Portrait keypad types, select Handwriting box 1 or 2. Now instead of having a keyboard to type with, you could just write the word out with your finger and it will recognize it. Thought I'd share.

I think the T9 keyboard app has this feature as well. I tried it, and it works, but it is definitely slower than just tapping on the keys.

installed some input, they don't work

I installed a a few input, but apart from the original input I can not use any of them when typing. I press an hold input setting, no selection of those inputs.
I did tick the box of them inputs at Setting.
something wrong here?
Which keyboard did you install?
The same to me trying to use Better Keyboard. I gave up.
Did you try selecting Better Keyboard from the 'All programs' list and selecting 'Enable Better Keyboard First'?
It won't work unless you enable it first of all. Works perfectly on my Hero.

Yep, this is the procedure I've tried to follow many times. But when I go to the input method selection dialog (the gear button left to the space in the regular keyboard), Better Keyboard isn't there.
I know I'm wrong in some way, but I don't figure out where's the catch.
The way I activate it is to open a new text message or email and in a text input field, press and hold for a few seconds. You should then get an option called 'Select Input Method'. Select it and choose Better Keyboard from the returned list.

OK, you're the man. I don't know what was the differences between what you wrote and what I readed until this evening, but I understood you and now I have Better Keyboard up and running. haha
Thanks!

Swype - Temp disable swyping?

Just wondering if there is a quick way to disable the swyping on the swype keyboard.
Love Swype but sometimes a std keyboard would be easier and I find I am changing back to the HTC keyboard for the odd message and then back again.
What swype needs is a quick way to turnoff the swype funtion and go Dumb mode.
Problem is if I type to quickly it starts picking it up as swypes
Thanks
Check settings, menu, all settings, personal, input.
Tought you could change it over there.
Thanks for the response however not really worried about switching between swype and another keyboard. More hoping there is a quick way to keep swype but make it faster as a normal keypad.
Some of my messages (Txt or Email) Swype is a bit of a hinderance. Trying to touch (tap tap) is painfully slow and so is switching between keyboards. (Bottom center. Tap slightly to the right will prompt for type of keyboard).
Eg entering in information and funny names I would like to tap one of the sype buttons and swype function is temporaily disabled. I then type what I need to (tap tap tap) then tap the key again and the swype function is reenbled and I carry on (swype swiggle swishe)
I feel your pain. Unfortunately, there isn't an option in Swype to turn of the "swyping" as you eloquently put it.
Hope they come out with a newer build that could do that and one where you can access the EDITING options with just one button press.
i simply press the small arrow next to the keyboard icon on the bottom of screen , and toggle to the normal, htc regular keyboard
edit: sorry, overlooked the op's main concern, please ignore

Hey, quick tip
you can quickly access the Editing options by swyping from the 'swype key' to the 'SYM key'

Adding New Words Using Google Keyboard...

I really like the default LG keyboard, but I've found myself gravitating back to my old standard - the Google Keyboard - specifically the latest KitKat version.
So, if I correctly enter an odd word that is not in the dictionary, the keyboard tries to auto-correct it, I press backspace once, and the word goes back to the way I originally spelled it and places the wave red line underneath.
All good. All standard Google keyboard behavior.
But then, if I long press on the word with the wavy red line underneath, I don't necessarily get the standard/expected Google pop-up allowing me to "Add to Dictionary". Instead, I often get the LG horizontal pop-up where "Add to Dictionary" isn't an option. This is the pop-up that's standard with the LG keyboard.
Sometimes though, the standard Google pop-up appears - but it's anyone's guess when it will.
Does anyone have any insight into this behavior?
although the stock keyboard is quite mediocre using the sliding method, i can't leave it because of some of the useful features. like the clip board button, i wish there was a way to trigger it with custom keyboards.

Despite Halo Keyboard active, onscreen keyboard keeps popping up. How to suppress?

Hi,
since a couple of days, I have this problem with my Yoga book:
- Halo (= hardware) keyboard is active and lit up
- when I enter a text input field in any app (Firefox...), the onscreen keyboard will pop up.
- as soon as I start typing on the Halo keyboard, the onscreen keyboard will disappear
- but the first typed letter will - most of the time - be missing in my text
Expected behaviour: no onscreen keyboard will pop up if I have hw keyboard activated.
How can I fix this?
What are the proper settings in the keyboard settings menu?
Is there any other setting I might have missed?
Brgds
Ulu
hey, i'm not familiar with the settings in English...but let's try...
try to uncheck 'show input method' at the bottom of the menu where you can switch between the keybords.
if i have it checked, the onscreen keyboard pops up. if not, nothing comes.
unfortunately, i have the same annoying 'bug' that quite often the first keystroke on the halo keyboard isn't recognized.
This did solve my problem!

Question Swipe gestures not working when keyboard (Swiftkey) is open

I noticed that the on-screen gestures for going back (swiping in from the left or right) are not working in the keyboard area. For example if i'm typing something in Whatsapp and want to go back then I have to swipe ABOVE the keyboard for it to work. Otherwise it registers as a keyboard input. The keyboard location is ergonomically the perfect spot to swipe so it's very annoying that this doesn't work.
I never had this problem with my previous phone, a Oneplus 7T Pro, and I am using the same keyboard (Swiftkey).
Anyone with the same problem, or better, the solution?
For new Samsung Devices like S23 series
One Hand Operation +
That's the name of the Samsung app you need. Open its Advanced Settings and disable Fit To Keyboard option.
The app's and OS's gesture systems can coexist without a problem.
