My poor transformer - Eee Pad Transformer General

So on Monday night I'm finishing up work at the office when my wife calls, all freaked out. Turns out someone broke into our house and made off with everything they could carry including her 2,000.00 camera and my transformer!
Needless to say, I am not happy, neither is she... and I was just getting ready to hack lookout onto the thing this weekend.
We are dealing with the insurance agency now (they are not making me happy either), and hopefully when the dust settles I'll have a new transformer, and an android compatible security system.
Untill then I'm stuck on an old desktop I built 5 years ago, and my wife's college desktop from 2000, sigh....
first things first though, turn the house into a fortress this weekend and install key logging and security software onto anything that boots.
I hope the thieves spontaneously combust.

Did you try downloading Plan B onto your tablet? You can do it remotely from https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb
Sorry to hear that

sorry to hear that too, but i like the idea of turning house into a fortress i guess this is some kind of a wake up call for most of us.

Sorry to hear the bad news!
It's too late for you now but I recently bought Seekdroid for my Android phone. It'll do what many other apps do i.e locate, lock, send an alarm signal but I especially like the apps ability to wipe the SD card and factory reset the device.

Thanks for posting that! Never knew about that one.
Hope you catch the thieves with this.

Ooh I really hope that works for you, it would be good to hear of a positive outcome. Keep us updated!

I completely forgot about plan B, I know that lookout can be installed in a kind of experimental manner and that is what I was planning on.... I just sent this out, hopefully they are connected.

**** that blows. Sucks how people have plans to beef up security and dont actually do it till something happens (which is where I am now, been planning for over a year and have yet to install any cameras etc).
Also what's good and bad about devices with proprietary ports is that I'm pretty sure the thief is gonna try to either stick an iPhone charger in it (harder on the tf then the streak which is same size as apples charger) and bust it. Leading the device to go out of power and then you can't track it.
I'd recommend you start doing the rounds on all pawnshops in your area. Print out pictures of stolen review and have serial numbers ready. Also try local PC repair shops as they too sell used PC's and electronics (one down the street from my recently got busted for selling stolen property).
When I was in high-school our house got robbed while on vacation and they made away with almost everything. They had stayed the night or two in the house and used all my dads power tools to break into the safe, stole all of my moms jewelry and my dads very rare coin collection along with family heirlooms. My parents were planning to put everything in a safe deposit box before leaving but something came up and we left on Sunday so bank was closed. Long story short, my dad hired a couple of local college students and gave each of them a list of what was missing and a new subwoofer that I was planning to install in my car is what got them. Turns out one of the low life POS thieves was my best friends older brother and the guy that organized it all, well his dad was really high up there in the police department and owned a private security firm. His dad gave him all the moeny he wanted and always had the hottest cars, turns out he did it be "gangster"....

Getting robbed blows, happened to us like in 2001 the day after Thanksgiving. We weren't out of town or anything, we had been over at my parents house for the normal Thanksgiving day festivities then went back home and later that evening we went out to eat pizza and came home to find the side door busted and tons of stuff gone. They made off with my Gameboy Advance and games, Dreamcast (but luckily none of my 200+ burned games ), Atari Jaguar + games, 3DO + Games, Playstation 2 + games, Xbox + games, wife's jewelry, mine and hers class rings, my deceased grandfather's watch I had just inherited a couple weeks before, my daughter's piggy bank. Needless to say we were devestated but the good news was I tracked down my Xbox via my brother in law's friend, some dude sold it to him and my bro in law was suspicous about the price paid so he called me and asked me for the serial # and they were a match! So he called the cops and they went and arrested the guy who sold it, and turned out he was wanted for robbery of over 20 homes in the city and I ended up going to court and watching him get sentenced to jail. We did get the Xbox back but nothing else, but at least we got the guy! I immediately had a security system installed and have had one ever since, but I still get weary everytime we leave the house for an extended amount of time.
Hope everything works out for you.

Just got my flat broken into last week, they took of with 2 macbooks, Htc Desire, external hdd and some jewelry. If insurance pays all i wont be too upset. But yes, everything portable is going to be properly passworded and backuped in the future...

Please let us know if Plan B works and you're able to nab those evil humans. I'm very interested to see how effective it is and it will warm me up inside to know that our TF's have the ability to capture thieves.

Sorry to hear that, I hope everything works out soon! Things are pretty mellow here in our rural area, heck the neighbors (we only have neighbors on our north side) kids leave their bikes out all night, though I wouldn't recommend doing that There hasn't ever been a break-in out here, we'd notice strange people or cars pretty quickly. We keep our doors locked on the house at night as well as the cars, but nothing beyond that. We have a Mendocino County Sheriff's Officer and two CHP Officer's in the development too, can't beat that

So far no dice with plan b. I changed my password after the break-in so I might change it back so the tablet can properly log in to market. Just got a new steel door installed on the house today. Tomorrow will a security gate installed.... me and the wife are debating on a camera system too.

I had the same thing happen to a friend. He got robbed while on vacation and it turned out to be a bunch of his friends that went over and stole everything. He got most of his stuff back after they found out who it was but it still bothers me that a "friend" would steal everything from another person they know(or anyone else for that matter)

Battery most likely died. That's the plus/down side of a proprietary port. Plus they can't use it. Down you can't track them.
Hope your insurance comes through with it.

that freakin sucks! I wish you and your wife the best of luck on recovering your losts.

I'm sure its not the battery because they snatched the power cord and charger since they were all connected at the time. I think the likely cause is that they can't figure out how to connect to wifi.

Anyone get their Epic yet? Post here!!

I'm going to pick mine up right now. I had to pay an old debt to sprint and they told me if they run my credit twice within 60 days it'll get flagged for fraud, so I'm hoping that doesn't happen. I don't know if they ran my credit when I payed that debt or not.
Let us know how you like yours!!
I have it since 8:10. I'm transferring the information from my Evo to it. I bought a really cool case with it.
Going to get mine at lunch time. Sprint store is about 6minutes away, hopefully they dont take the other 54min to get me paid and activated.
Yeah. Got mine and rooted it already. Waiting for a nandroid capable recovery and nand unlock. Cases at sprint were not that great. I might stop by bb today or tomorrow and get a screen pro put on it and see if they have better cases. Sprint had a neat dock but obviously you can't dock if you have a case.

They had one at Sprint that I really liked. It was back and hard rubberized. And for 15 bucks. Who could argue? I put it on and it feels REALLY awesome.
How's the battery life?
Can you make it two days without a charge?

Congrats to you early adopters! Good luck with it and looking forward to ALL the mini-reviews.

Same here. Another person was there picking up the Epic, but other than that, we were alone in the store.
Initial Impressions
Very quick impressions...
Capacative buttons work absolutely FINE.
Going through the menu setting up various things the phone flies.
Email setup is much more of a pain the BB but I expected that and went through the same thing with the EVO
The phone has less of a 3G signal in my office thatn the EVO did but at least it's a solid one bar whereas my 9650 Bold would drop every call. Sprint sent me an Airwave yesterday to use in the office so once I get that up and running I'll be good to go. I have a strong 4g signal at home so I'll try that out this evening.
Absolutely love the screen. If you don't have an EVO sitting next to it for comparison, the screen is plenty big enough.
Keyboard is excellent
I'm guessing it's tyhe rounded corners...the phone is much more comfortable in the hand than the EVO was and for perhaps the same reason, fits much better in the pocket.
Looks great...I sense no "cheapness" factor to it at all.
I'll have more input after I get a chance to really work with it as the day progresses but I'm very happy with the decision to go with this device.
Edit/Delete Message
Further Updates on Call / Sound Quality and GPS:
Having spent the morning on the phone now, I have to say...for someone who wears hearing aids (me), the call quality both on the earpiece in the front and the rear speaker is simply the best I've ever experienced with wither BB or my previous EVO.
Totally impressed and that alone makes this phone worth it to me.
Interestingly, while the EPIC shows only one bar whereas the EVO used to show 2-3 here in my office, the EVO would drop about every third call and the connection was obviously poor. At one bar, the EPIC sounds darn solid.
GPS locked on in seconds from within my office and put me right where I am.
Fired up Sprint Nav, put my house in for a destination and much more quickly than my BB 9650 ever did, it had me on the way home...even though it's not time to go home
Picked mine up at around 8:15
So far loving the keyboard amd how smooth verything seems to be. Sprin had a really cool case with a ruberized back that I decided to buy and so did te other guy getting a epic.
I miss the big screen of the evo. But the samoled screen is definitely an improvement

Picked mine up about an hour ago. I was third in line when the Sprint store opened at 8AM. By the time I left about 20 minutes later, there where at least 6 other people there all wanting the Epic. Purchased all of the available accessories including the Media Dock.
Picked mine up at 8am sharp. Wasn't $350 upfront rather $250 like BB & RS are offering. Asked rep if I had to charge the battery when I got home and said no. Powered it up and it was only 50% charged. Tested GPS with google maps, cold locked right in after I turned on locate in settings. No 4g so far and I live between baltimore and richmond 4g areas, rep said I would have it but I know he was just blowing smoke up my arse about those things. He also kindly advised me that I would be receiving an automated survey call tomorrow and to give their store a 5 out of 1 scoring. I'll think about it.
All in all, pretty pleased with the smothness, minor lag when loading up xda page. Asphalt 5(demo) ran smooth, hardware keyboard has a great feel and good key spacing, and backlit keys are a major plus.
Let the custom ROMS begin!
Just got mine about an hour ago. The only downside is the layout on it but I'm sure some custom ROMS will come soon and I can't root so the wireless tether feature is not there. Overall very nice screen and the touch screen is great. I've only played with it for a half hour so I can't say a whole lot more about it.

It's a guarantee they will, it took 15 minutes for me to buy a car charger the other day.
It took me all of 16 minutes to return the Bold 9650, have them activate the EPIC, check that it worked, buy a case and get out of the store.
I didn't bother to have them set up my email accounts as I'll do it myself.

That army of one video game was the ****! Well, as far as learning how to shoot and maintain your rifle goes. LOL...I used to fail at shooting just so I could sit in a nice warm room playing video games while everyone else was freezing and laying in the mud.
When I joined...they offered me a backpack and a track suit. Both of which I never received.
Through in a free case for that iPhone and you got a deal! Ya know ill need reception to call for back up. I can't wait to have those touching moments with the front cam like they do in the commercials.
So yeah, they will give you a free phone, but they are going to charge you for all your clothes and gear. That stuff is way more expensive than a phone. Back in the day, the gear was all free.
When I was at Fort Lost in the Woods I didn't get jack crap. I had a good time granted the learning of US weapons and explosives, and night training, and MRE's, and well physical fitness. But not a damn phone cheap bastards. I guess before the Bush admin we got a half-million dollar life insurance policy upgrade. So I always have that....

I have not used it, but an app called Plan B got released recently. It will find your phone even if you did not install it before it got stolen.
Again, i have not used it, but I think your google account still has to be associated with the phone, so you may want to try it before whoever stole it resets it. (not sure, but guessing)
I know you said gps told you its in the apartments, but Im guessing it wont show you which one? Even if it does not tell you which apartment, see it if will get you close. I read that Plan B will send the location every 10 minutes, so you could watch to see if it moves. For example, if you know its on one of the apartments, see who comes and goes, and if in that time period any of the find your phone apps tell you its moving, at least you can figure out who has it...
thats what I would do at least

Anyways congrats on the op and welcome to our ship lol

sell it to her as a replacement laptop that you can both use and it'll mean less time on the current laptop/pc - it also will save on energy costs as it lasts longer and you can take it away and watch movies etc. on it.... also it can be used in place of a DVD/Bluray/VHS as you can hook it up via a HDMI cable.........
best way to tell your wife is to get her a tablet also, duh!
Buy her some shoes. That's what i did.

jewelry. Then it will be impossible for her to get mad at you every time she sees you playing with the Xoom.
I'm waiting for a Fuji X100 to be delivered. I am getting away with it by getting my wife new dining room chairs. I have to plan these things well in advance. But it does save me grief.
Congrats, the sales of the Xoom weren't as good as I thought they would be launch date; am glad sales are picking up bc it is a pretty cool device.
Best of the luck with the wife. I just bought my wife a G Tablet when I bought my Xoom. Seems to have worked wonders for me.
My problem was that my wife had bought me a Nook Color for Xmas last year. I rooted it and installed numerous ROMs but it didn't run quite as stable as I'd loved it to. So I got dragged into the Honeycomb tablet world and ordered my Xoom when Motorola had the 25% off glitch. Saved me two hundred bucks! I told my wife about the purchase when I held the device in my hands. BAAD IDEA! The only things that kept her from ripping my head off were the 25% discount and that over time she realized that the Nook has major shortcomings. But what do they say: It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission? Anyway, my wife now uses the Nook and is fairly happy. She even took it well when I told her about my interest in the ASUS Transformer. She understood the benefits of having the full keyboard, better screen etc.
Bottom line: Just tell her and then get her something nice to make up for not telling her earlier!

Wrong Note Received!!!

After drooling over the Note via virtually by watching a ton of youtube videos as well as reading up on everything about it I could find, I finally was ready to buy it (after had borrowing the money to get it). I knew I wanted the GT-N7000 version over the US AT&T model, mainly because of the better processor and I really like that Video Maker app, as well as a bunch of other things. I ordered my International Note through Amazon, with Prime Shipping! I placed the order for it last Wednesday afternoon, but it was not scheduled to arrive until Today, Monday. Woke up early, just to make sure I was handed the package and it wasn't thrown to my front door, ... I immediately felt something was wrong when I saw the box. It was in a longer than needed rectangular box, with both sides pushed in, to where you could actually reach in and pull the phone out of the box.
When I opened the box, too look at what was in there, first thing I noticed was that the phone box was not plastic wrapped, second thing, the AT&T logo on the box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wasn't really upset as I should of been, but the feeling of waiting over the weekend for Monday to come started back up again, as I knew I was going to have to return this phone, and wait for it to go through the process of mailing it back, waiting for the refund to go through, then reordering it from someone else, and waiting for it to arrive again.
The dealer I bought it from was MasterDeals Inc on Amazon. I will definitely not be buying anything from them in the future.
What a huge letdown this was, after having that NOTE FEVER for several weeks, then for it to end this way was a big disappointment. I hope the next one that gets shipped to me is the correct model.
I got to hold it for but a brief instance, my baby and I will meet again soon.
Sorry to hear that, it should all get sorted out as the product you purchased was a N-7000 and not the ATT Note.
Man that really sucks I am planning on ordering another note from amazon for my wife and I want to make sure that doesn't happen to me. I just noticed the reseller who is selling through Amazon that I was planning on buying through has two different pictures one for att and one for international ill have to be careful. Good luck on your return I hope they get you all sorted quickly it really is an amazing device.

When ordering online they don't specify which version it is? I'm sorry to hear that ... regardless, I'm sure it'll get straightened out.
UPDATE: 4/6/12
After what happened, which I posted above, I am glad to say I am now a VERY HAPPY GT-N7000 Note owner.
How it happened.
After opening the package which I had received on Monday 4/2/12, I immediately packaged it back up and sent it back, due to the fact that the seller had sent me the AT&T model, which I did not order.
Amazon's customer service emailed me the pre-paid UPS postage to include on the box, and I went to the nearest UPS drop off location and sent it. This was about 3:45 pm.
On Wednesday, at 12:00 PM, I had received a email from Amazon saying they had received the return, and were processing it and would email me back once the refund was submitted. That evening around 6:00 pm, I had received the email saying the amount I spent on the phone, $609.99, was being refunded back to the card I had used for the purchase. That was good enough for me.
3 Hours later or so, I reordered the Note from Yapper Wireless on Amazon. This was after receiving response emails from them that they were in fact selling the GT-N7000 model, so I placed the order around 9:00 pm that night.
Since I am a Amazon Prime member, I only had to pay $3.99 to have my order sent via 1 day shipping, which I did, as I wanted it before the weekend.
Thankfully, it did arrive this morning, Friday, at 11:00 am. Keeping my fingers crossed, I opened the box, and immediately seen that it was in fact the GT-N7000 WHITE model.
The phone box was not plastic wrapped, and after looking in the box, I noticed why, the seller took out the international plug adapter, and replaced it with the US Samsung one, which I was happy about.
Next I installed a screen protector, which I am not sure I will keep on, then installed my 32GB Samsung Class 10 Micro SD card, and installed my Straight Talk sim card. Followed the instructions on the Straight Talk website, activated the sim, picked the $45 a month Unlimited plan, and entered the APN settings that can be found on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487293 Thanks to Hirudin for posting it.
I first tried a call, Worked.
Text message, Worked.
Took a pic and sent it (MMS), Worked.
Again, I was VERY HAPPY! It's feels good to have unlimited minutes again, after being SO limited as I was with my 300 minutes a month $35 Virgin Mobile plan.
Next step, downloaded Speed Test to test the network.
Turned off WiFi (of course), Began Test.
I noticed in the status bar, It was going from 3G to H+, but then stayed on H+, this test was taking inside my house.
Results:
3.1 MBPS Down
1.2 MBPS Up
I am located in Fremont, CA .. the Bay Area.
I again, VERY HAPPY with these speeds, I would be lucky to get 100 KBPS Down with Virgin Mobile, which of course runs off of Sprints network.
I then went to the Google Play store on my computer, signed in with the email associated with my phone, and went to Devices under account settings, I was once again VERY HAPPY to see that it shows my carrier as AT&T!
The phone is on the charger now, I haven't really got into it yet, but I can say that this is definitely the BEST phone I have ever owned, and yes I did once own and use the iPhone 4. I am so excited to FINALLY have my very own Note, and I can't wait to start using it and customizing it to my liking. I look forward to May 22, when Samsung announces the S III, and hopefully whatever specs this new phones has, hardware wise, will make it into the Note 2. Quad Core/2GB Ram/12-16 Megapixel Camera/etc. I just hope the Note 2 at least keeps the same size screen, if not go slightly bigger!
Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share my experience with everyone, and yes, the Note/Straight Talk combination works flawlessly! Highly recommended if you don't like spending $100+ on your phone bill.
Long Live the Note/Hail to the King Baby!
Gotta love those happy endings.
And don't worry about the phone being on 3G, mine does the same. It switches to H+ when it starts pulling data, and goes back to 3G when it's finished; i think it's a power saving measure.
Wow from disaster to awesome, all sorted within the week. Sounds like you and amazon worked really fast to fix the problem. Congrats on getting the right note and I could almost feel your optimism while reading through lol!
Too many times ppl get hung up on bad mouthing a company due to a problem and take ages to get it fixed. You on the other hand named and shamed vowing never to buy from again (same thing I would do) and then got on with getting your phone
There really is no going back to a smaller device for ppl who use their phone other than calls. Loved my Dell Streak for year and a half and now I love my note. 5" is the future.
Enjoy your device buddy wd.

Yeah, I am glad it all worked out in the end. I know what you mean about not going back to a smaller device, I don't think I could do it, or at least I know I wouldn't want to.
Actually it bounces back from H+ to 3G as soon as your phone is idle for a couple of seconds or your throughput is below a certain threshold. This is controlled by the network and not your phone. The wireless medium is shared between many users, this is done to free up the limited resources for the users actually needing H+ and throw back everyone who doesn't need it to 3G.
