[Q] Multiple Calendars without gmail or Exchange? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I want to Sync multiple Outlook Calendars from different PCs to my mobile, without the help of gmail or exchange. I tried Funambol but it only lets me add one account to my device Is it really that strange, what I want to do?

Already tried MyPhoneExplorer?:
http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php

Just tried it, but it seems that it doesn't use seperate calendars!? If I sync all my Calenders, I just merge all of them into one, which I want to avoid. Android has support for multiple calendars, Outlook also has so there must be a way without installing a server OS.

Sry, wasn't clear in the first post for me, that you don't want to merge them.
not sure, if Android support really multiple Calenders.
I think you have to add for each calender an account in settings->accounts and sync and get the data from that adress.

That was my plan, but it won't let me add aditional Funambol Accounts (that's what I use to sync atm). I know it works with multiple Google or Exchange Accounts. But I want my PIM Data to stay on my Hardware, nowhere else.
Thanks, anyway, btw

[APP][DEV] 'Syncing' to multiple Exchange Accounts

I have seen several posts over the years from people looking to sync multiple Exchange mailboxes/calendars to their WM phones. The official word from Microsoft is, of course, you can't do that, and it is for security purposes. To date, I haven't seen a way to accomplish this, other than to have IMAP or POP3 and use the second exchange account in this way.
The paradox for Microsoft is which domain 'owns' the device. If you sync to two different servers, and one issues the remote reset command, the phone will hard reset, losing the data from the other server. Also, if there are policies in place for one domain, and you sync to a second, which set of policies supercedes the other.
I am probably one of the few people ( although it's probably not that rare consider many users here are developers ) who runs their own exchange server at home. I have my phone synced to my home Exchange server which houses all of my email, contacts, calendar apps, ect. The company I work for also uses exchange and opens the ability to sync via ActiveSync, but denies IMAP and POP3 access. I always wanted a way to get just my calendare from work so that when I am in the game room, or outside, or helping a co-worker, I didn't forget about the meetings scheduled at work.
Ok, with that background, here is the true purpose of the post. I have written a small app that uses WebDAV (same thing the Outlook web access uses) to query the Exchange server at work and return the all of the appointments on my calendar in XML format. This app then parses the XML, and sends regular emails with the calendar invites to my home Exchange server, and of course my phone. Once I log in and accept them, they show up on my phone, my home Outlook, and my Outlook at work. The strategy could easily be applied to email, as the WebDAV query i've created need only be tweaked to return the email in additional to the calendar appointments. The device retains no relationship with the exchange server from which the email and calendar settings come, so there is no question of domain ownership
What I would like to know from the community, is there still a need for this app? Right now many of the configurable items are hardcoded to my server settings, mainly because it started as a POC, and it is in a C# Console Application. It could easily be modified to run on the .NET 3.5 CF, with all of the important info as configurable options, and distrubuted.
Would anyone be interested in this?

Ive been after an app like this for ages - I went for a google synch approach with my work exchange and then pulling my work calendar to google and then to my home exchange account on my mobile - problem with this was i regularily got duplicates! I have since sacrificed having my home and work calendar synch and just have my work email being polled by imap. The key for me is i dont want all my home contacts and calendar appointments synched with my work email - would just like to pull my work calendar every know and again and ensure i dont have duplicates - would this work in this way enabling an adhoc pull on the work calendar without creating duplicates and sending personal appointments to my work calendar?
Fantastic, would love to see this developed. Would pay for this app.

This app checks for duplicates by using the subject. The only testing I've done is on my own calendar and such, but I have found no issues with duplicates. Introducing this app to a wider audience should point out any issues right away.
Based on the limited amount of feedback I've received, I think I will work it into a windows mobile application for mass consumption. I will keep this thread updated with the progress. Any additional features anyone can think of are appreciated.
that would be fantastic i will definately testing it out. another great feature would be to enable it to synch with google calendars as well while checking duplicates with the exchange calendar - all the onew i have trie have failed on the duplicates side! will monitor this thread and check when an app is available
cheers

I would be interested, but more for pushing of emails from my google app, rather than calendar/contacts, to my mobile phone.
I would LOVE getting my calendars and contacts synched between my work exchange and personal exchange

zenkinz you can do this now by getting google mail to autoforward all emails to your exchange account - thats what i do now and it works like a treat
I would not only love an application like this but maybe one that allows the use of Intellisync along with Activesync to allow them both to work cohesively. Since Novell and Microsoft do not play well together I cannot use my hotmail to work with my activesync the same way.
Hey guys, i don't know if this works for everyone but i saw this post ages ago that allows a quick registry edit to allow activesync 4.x to sync over multiple servers.
Currently i sync my exchange server calendar and contacts with google calendar.
The link on google groups is http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync/browse_thread/thread/7e44b0374561f9e3/e25f50cf495e64b8?lnk=st&q=solved+exchange+pocketpc&rnum=3&pli=1
I have a polaris running a wm6.1 build. and this seems to work really well. I hope this helps someone!

At first blush, the link suggested syncing with one exchange connected pc, and one push-enabled server. While close, I do not believe this is the same functionality my app will provide. Did I miss something?
would love it.
i own a consulting company and have two email addresses. my personal and a "support" mailbox. would be nice to see that support box without using oma or even worse OWA on vga screen. ugh.
this app is definitely. needed.
thanks for the effort.
Excellent !
Works like a charm for several pop3 accounts.
Ciao

I too have my own Exchange server at home, and several other Exchange accounts at work- each on different domains. This would be a great thing for me, and one I would pay for.
I am currently running Exchange 2007 on my home domain, Exchange 2010 for one account at work, and Exchange 2003 for another. If this works on all 3 "flavours" I would be stoked.

Well just to confirm, i sync with my works exchange server and google sync which as far as i know uses Exchange ActiveSync® protocol. To this extent i am effectively syncing with two exchange servers.
I do not sync my phone with any pc, so this registry mod does do what i think you describe. I suggest you try this regsitry mod and see if it does what you ask.
regardless i hope it helps!

I am not sure about Exchange 2010, but I know that my app (in it's current form) relies on WebDAV, which makes it work with Exchange 2000, 2003, and 2007. I don't have an Exchange 2010 test environment at the moment, but will stand one up if demand were to increase. Once it goes RTM I will definately use it and this app will be compatible. Again, as long as they leave WebDAV support in, and don't break the interface, this app will already work with it.

Thanks, I will definately look into this.
Just as a general update on progress, I began digging into the true dirt of the conversion today and ran into several issues. First being that the System.Net.Mail namespace isn't in the compact framework, and since that is functionality in the .net System.dll, it can't be exported for use with CF. I found however that the same functionality exists in the Microsoft.Mobile.PocketOutlook namespace, so that was easy to overcome. I ran into some issues during testing (my exchange server went down overnight so i couldn't test at all (btw, it going down had nothing to do with this app )). The WebDAV query works, but since I am returning such a large dataset, it takes quite a while over EDGE (TMobile 3G is slated for Louisville in a few weeks!!!). Otherwise, the port is moving right along and hope to have an alpha version posted in the coming days.
BTW, does anyone out there have a good name for this app. In a lapse of creativity, I named it InfoSync, but I think that is too generic. Suggestions?

going from winmo 6.5 to android

Hey all, i'm going from my winmo 6.5 install on my Touch Pro to the android system on the Evo(i've never used android before. i'm very excited!) whats the best way to transfer contacts, sms, mms, bookmarks, favorites etc to the android from winmo? in the past i would just use sprite mobile backup in conjunction with windows MyPhone service to transfer to the new winmo phone.
how does it work between two different OSes?
thanks!!
I too am in the same situation. My wife just went from WinMO 6.5 to Android (got a Hero, decided she didn't need the evo) and she ended up manually putting her contacts into google. Seemed like a pain.
I searched around and there are some paid apps out there to sync outlook and google, but I am not going to be to only do it once (abandoning outlook after this). Theres a sync plugin for outlook that google made, but it seems like you might need an exchange server in order to use.
I think there is a way to export your contacts into .csv and then import into google but that doesnt sound too great either (although better than doing it manually lol).
Anyone know of a good app to sync contacts and calendar from outlook to google (at least just for one time)?
You can use activesync on your winmo phone to sync your contacts and calendar to your gmail account, then when you get the evo, use the same gmail account to sync it all with that
backup your contacts to your google account from winmo, google has an exchange server you can sync using. do it right on the phone, search the winmo forums for exactly how, i did it over 6 months ago when the hero came out so i dont remember.

You're right, that probably would have been a good way. Unfortunately my HTC FUZE has died and I am on an oldschool smartphone (Cingular 2125, HTC Faraday, many other names) and I don't know if it has exchange/google sync support in its activesync.
Any software-solution ideas?
I use exchange server to sync all my data. If you dont have access to a exchange server then sync with google then resync with google on your android phone.
I am in the same boat. Unfortunately I dont want to merge gmail info with my phone. I was thinking about Sprite Migrate.... anyone use before?
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work-
qu1nn
well, i can't get the google sync to work, so i'm going to give sprite a shot
sprite migrate looks interesting, is it free? All this research seems pretty time consuming, might just export to csv and manually input callendar lol.
would love just a simple sync from outlook to google... sigh...
Same here just made the switch from WM to Android (Sprint Hero) two weeks ago and couldn't be anymore happier. Android is fun, easy to learn and very customizable. Like all the above post, switching over contacts (not needed the other stuff) to gmail was super easy and save plenty of times. For me Android is here to stay and hopefully you too will learn to like it as much as I did. Good luck!!!

could you possibly run me through how you did it? i can't seem to figure it out! i tried using google sync, but it keeps telling me the server is not configured properly
If you have access to Exchange use that, if not use Gmail. Those are the methods I have used for other folks and it works fine.
clearly i need to learn to sync with exchange. last time i tried, it wiped my phone contacts and put all my work email contacts on there instead. whew! more learning!

Well, its part of activesync.
Go to activesync on your phone, menu, add server source
server addy is m.google.com (and requires ssl)
username put FULL email addy (i.e. [email protected], you need the @gmail (or your server, some are googlemail, etc).com part)
then pick what you want to sync
you should be ok, the only thing I am worried about is if it replaces your phone contacts with its own or merges the 2, I might find out soon though... would just like someone to confirm with me
i tried that and it would start to sync then give me an error saying "the exchange server is not properly configured" and wouldn't go anywhere from there
When you are on the last activesync screen where you select what to sync, (contacts, calender, e-mail, tasks), Select Menu at bottom right. Select Advanced. In the top drop down select "Keep the item on my device". I just synced to my gmail contacts, which was empty, and it worked fine. I did have to try it several times to get it to work but now that its set up it works well.

Setup a Funambol account at http://my.funambol.com
Download the Funambol CAB install file to your Windows Mobile device (that is actually running Windows Mobile. You can get the CAB file by going to the email tab in your Funambol portal and selecting download)
Install Funambol (onto Window's Mobile)
Sync your contacts with the Funambol server by launching Funambol and entering your Funambol portal account information
Download the Funambol Android application (from Funambol Forge)
Put the .apk file on your SD card in the /Storage Card/AndroidApps folder. If this folder doesn't exist, create it.
Boot into Android by running Android from your program menu or by manually running haret.exe
Once in Android, bring up the Application menu.
Open the Funambol application.
Press the menu key and tap on Settings.
Enter your Funambol portal information.
Click Sync contacts and let it sync your contacts.

Exchange calendar & contacts sync to Nexus but not to Google account

I have a stock Nexus One for AT&T running Froyo 91. My Outlook Exchange calendar and contacts (which is my primary source for each) sync perfectly to the phone, but will not sync to my Google account. I have tried deleting and recreating my Google account calendar and contacts; alas, to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It won't sync to your google account just by setting it up on the phone. It still pulls from the multiple sources to give you a single view of all your events on the phone itself. If you want to sync your calendar/contacts to your google account itself, you'll need to use Google Sync. http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/

Apologies for the confusion; I'll try again. My Exchange email (and *.edu extension), contacts, and calendar all sync to my Nexus One just fine. Likewise, the email from my Google account syncs to the native Google email app on the phone. However, my Google calendar and contacts both remain empty; in other words the Nexus One calendar and contacts are not syncing to my Google account. I hope this clarifies my issue. Thanks again.
@kmhor
Two things. Have you checked the sync settings for google to make sure calendar and contacts are syncing?
Secondly, and more basic, do you have anything in that google calendar and contacts?
Also if it is google apps set up through your edu (I have that) which you are trying to sync have they activated the Cal / contacts?
Most likely it is the first setting.

Yes I have checked the settings and they are set to sync. Second, no, my Google account calendar and contacts are blank. This is the point: I want to populate them by syncing from Exchange via my phone. I hope this clarifies my question. Thanks for your reply.
So you want to go from exchange to your phone and then to Google.
No your phone does not do that.
Your phone keeps the Google stuff separate from the MS exchange stuff. It combines them in to a single view on your handset.
You can migrate the calendar using MS outlook on your PC. Open outlook and sync to your MS exchange account. Then download google calendar sync:
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
And this will sync your calendar from MS outlook to Google calendar.
I don't know how to migrate Contacts or Notes.

Thanks to all who replied to my inquiry. This seems like a significant impediment to wide-spread adoption of Android for business users. Like it or not, MS Exchange is a huge established base for business. The idea that one cannot maintain a single list of contacts, tasks, and notes, in addition to a synchronized calendar calendars between one's work and non-work systems is vexing. For all it's other challenges, Windows Mobile does this pretty well.
OK, off my soap box and on to Google's N1 forum with the suggestion. Thanks again.

You misunderstand. Your phone will sync google calendar, mail and contacts to google, and exchange mail/calendar/contacts, to exchange server. It will show gmail under gmail, and exchange mail under email. It will combine Google contacts with Exchange contacts in a single list on your phone. It will however keep them segregated. You can NOT cross sync a gmail contact with exchange server. This is right and as it should be.
In your calendar or contacts you can select to show gmail contacts, exchange contacts or both.
I have owned WinMo phones from 5.0 onwards, and I can tell you winmo can not do any of this. It can only sync contacts/calendar to one account, either MS exchange, or gmail. And that's only because gmail is compatible with exchange prtocol.

Mr_Rader: Thanks again for your help. I think you just answered my question. My hope is to be able to seamlessly maintain a single list of contacts between Exchange and Google. In other words, if Mr. Smith's phone number changes and I update it in Exchange while at work, I would like that change to be reflected in Mr. Smith's Google contact when I want to call him from home and am looking him up his contact information on Google contacts. If I understand you correctly, this cannot be done and I would need to update his contact twice to ensure consistency.
My reference to WinMo related to the ability of my old HTC Kasier to essentially serve as a conduit between Exchange Contacts on my work account and Outlook contacts on my home machine. When I synced via USB at home, it compared the contacts on Exchange to those on the home machine, and updated both to reflect the information in the most recently updated version. This is what I am trying to acheive here.
Thanks again.

I use a licensed syncing tool (gSyncit) to sync my work calendar (in Exchange 2007) from Outlook 2010 to my google account 'Work' calendar. It then propagates to iCal on my Mac and my Nexus One.
This effectively is using my Google account as the conduit rather than the phone - would this be an acceptable alternative? gSyncit handles contacts, calendars, etc.

That would work, except I need to get past our local IT support folks who frown upon installing such third-party apps on work machines. I will check it out though. Thanks for the suggestion!

No worries.
I tend to forget about the IT support policies - being a developer gets me a lot of slack

[q] want to migrate from winmo 6.5 to android, but want to keep hotmail (full html)!

I am tires of WINMO 6.5, and WP7 is not what I want. The only thing is that I can't give up my hotmail, and NO I don't want POP3 version, and the exchange trick won't show me attachments..... not html etc.
I want hotmail to behave like any an regular email client.
As of now this is how I am setup on winmo 6.5:
1. PH#s (contacts with PH#s) + Calendar = Gmail, synced via microsoft exchange (I do this because I use Google voice)
2. Email (Hotmail) + Email contacts - synced via windows live email client
Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Also... I would like to combine somehow all my contacts in one directory that will be synced somehow between gmail (for google voice texts and calls) and hotmail (since I use this all over my PC's and add contacts from different locations. Can I do all this and use ANDROID?? Please help!! Thank you!!! - Peter
On my phone, I use the included email app in CM7, and just enter email/pass and it gets hotmail fine, full html and attachments.
or you can root, install Cyanogenmod, then put browser as a desktop agent....and you can veiw it just as if you were on a normal computer
Gmail has always worked great for me on android. Its a must when you check your mail on multiple devices. Android lets you save contacts to your gmail account, so you can edit your phone contacts in gmail. Im sure you could then import the contacts to hotmail.
I posted how to's in your other thread. Not posting them again here.

What is CM7? Also, when you check your hotmail from your phone, doest is show checked in your desktop version as well? Is it synced both ways? Or just pop3?

It is a one way sync, CM7 is a custom ROM for android. What phone are you planning to get? I've heard there is someway to get GMail to send over all your hotmail stuff and use it as a 2 way sync, but im not sure. Microsoft always kept Hotmail hard to access from non-microsoft products.

[Q] Syncing multiple calenders on HD2

I want to sync multiple calenders with my tmousleo. I use an exchange server for work and comcast email, and google calender for personal/family events.
I am looking for an option that does not include adding yet another email address if possible.
Thanks for the help.
no, I don't think so. wm65 will get confused if you sync with more than one calendar. Even if you succeeded in creating the two activesync, the calendars will overwrite one another.
Consider using RSS to view them.
