Please help! I just bought the Bell galaxy s 2 today and realised that in low brightness settings screen has a pink tint.
Does anyone have this issue? Its more visible in grey colors. When i compare with my galaxy s, galaxy s' whites are true white and galaxy s 2's white are pinkish tint on it. When the brihhtness is at %100 its not that visible but once u set it %0 it becomes pinkish.
Is it what it suppose to be or its defective?
Note: yes i played with background effect but it didnt help. I am running KG2.
Edit: I compared with galaxy s again and if I make the brightness %100 on galaxy s 2 both screens almost identical (although SGS2 still has little warm whites) but at %0 brightness when I pull down the notification screen sgs2 has literally pink hue
Why not anyone comment on this? 100 something views and no comments?
U guys all have sgs2. pls at least share your phone's display colors so I can know if something is wrong with mine.
Yep got it to and also pink on camera also mine going back to Amazon tomorrow had two in a week with same problem Ive got one ordered from another retailer ... but I think its a inherent fault

Yup..got it too..in Indian sgs2..got screen replaced bt no difference..for me most visible when browsing xda app for long..also pink in camera..tried everythng bt can't get rid of it..its company fault..

Are you saying your whole screen looks rather pinkish ? I've seen couple of devices that were pretty much reddish when showing white, but i think that's not normal. You should replace it.

Yes whole screen has a reddish tint. Especially grey colors. Instead of grey it displays reddish. If i compare Gmail app with Sgs side by side, my screen has ridiculously pink color.
I wonder if its a software issue or hardware? Cuz I remember in sgs hardcore's kernel he made an.option to change the colors.
This is my second sgs2. First one had a dead pixel. So I didnt wanna go right away and change it. I wanted to ask yours.
More input will appreciated.

I'd take the lack or response to mean that it's not a problem experienced by many people. If your read the threads talking about the display, you'll see there's wide variations in color temperature. Cool/blue seems to be normal while there are reports of phones leaning toward warm/yellow. Pink hasn't been reported a lot so I'd exchange the phone.

I am also from India and I dont have any such problem with my sgs2...
My girlfriend and I have the same german sgs2 (dbt) and mine has a bit of a greenish tint whereas hers had a but if a reddish tint. You can't notice it when using the phones alone but when you put them side by side you can notice it a little bit, but really not that much. Seems to be an AMOLED thing. Maybe I'll manage to take a photo for you.

Thanks a lot for that image. I have been wondering what people were talking about when they mentioned pinkish screen...
Luckily I don't seem to have that problem. It seems like there are a few defective screens out there.
perhaps supercurio will have a voodoo colour fix with the sgs2 whenever he releases it. It fixed the tinge on the original sgs. Look it up if u are unfamiliar with it
I changed the phone today and got a new one. Its better now and significany less pink color.
Also I discovered something that the pink tint is only visible when u look at the screen 90 degrees. If u tilt the phone a little (5-10 degrees) to left-right or up-down and view like that the color turns normal (like my year old sgs).
It made me realise that this is a screen coating issue (maybe coating causes polarisation). So do u think this will go away with the time of use?
When I turn off the screen and check it under light by tilting I can see a little purple glare.
What do u think?
I noticed a strange pattern of squares all over the screen..they are rather Invisible until you look at it under some light already certain angle. I tried my best to take a picture but it's hard to see if you're not looking from human eyes. Either way I don't know if this is part of the design or is it some type of weird defect. I attach some pictures check it out. Look near the light glare and you will see the little square patterns they are all over the screen I tried to capture it as well as I could.

OMG got the same "problem"! Duno if this is normal or not... But now its night and im writing from my n7 and i see this little dots that are in this weird pattern. Got my n7 today.
Its the touch screen digitizer... every nexus 7 has this square pattern.
there's already a thread about it somewhere around here.

I have that circle to... My colleague has one to, also with that circle... Seems common..
Doesn't bother me anymore after I put on a nice screenprotector.
My new one (after in store exchange) have no screen marks or any other "weird" parts...

If it's a blotch or lines, it should be the glue. It'll go away after a few days/week. If it's just generally yellow when you tilt it, it's the pixel arrangement.

You can change and tweak the colors if you install a custom kernel that has the ability to do it like franco.kernel or trinity. you will need an application like the Franco.kernel updater app (paid) or trickster mod app (free) to tweak it.

I get it too, I wouldn't call it a defect. Don't look at it from extreme angles. Why would anyone do that?

I just bought a S4, and I noticed I had the purple smearing issue. I have now updated to the latest BMF8 rom which really solved the problem. But now I notice one issue, when I display a pure white background or a Grey background, I notice the top half of the screen is darker (pink tint) than the lower part which id yellowish...
it is the same no matter what screen brightness I set.. the top half is darker than the bottom... is anyone having this issue? my S3 does not have this problem...

looking at my screen shots, they dont show when viewing on a monitor, so it is the LCD screen of the phone which is faulty...

Are you talking about a slight whitish tone on the top diaognal half of your screen and the lower half has this pinkish or purplelish tone on white or bage bg? Try taking a picture maybe?

I have updated the first post with screen shots. I dont know if you can see it but as I said, the whole top half is darker thsn the lower half.
I have just been to the Samsung kiosk in my home town... showed the phone to one of the reps and he confirmed the screen was darker on the top half... hopefully this gets changed tomorrow when I go to the phone shop...

To me it looks like a hardware issue because when I make a screen grab and view the image on my S3 and computer, the captured images look ok ..
Im waiting for a replacement phone anyway.

No i meant top and bottom are the same... no tint
I think all GS4 phones have a slight purple tint issue, it's just the way the display is built.

I'm hoping Samsung comes out with a fix for the pink tint.
I seem to recall that the s2 had issues with yellow tint on the left side and Samsung came out with a kernel update that fixed it.

I had same problem what @nm8 had. I sent my phone to warranty but only thing they did was a software update (what I did three times before sending it to there). Of course that didn't help, after I got my phone back it was even worse. I wrote petition to the shop from where I bought phone. Yesterday they announced to me that Samsung after-sales service will buy my phone back.
Right now I don't know that is this phone worth of buying again (would buy 32 GB version now). It's one of the most expensive phones in the market so I would like to get nearly perfect screen...

There is no perfect screen.. better to stop trying to get unless u loss ur hope and waiste ur timer..

This is my first topic here, I have just bought a new S4, and the screen seems to have lines in it, when it is on a grey/dark screen, and is discolored on the bottom half.
Anyway, Please could you go into Settings > More > about device > software update. Now if you go in the dark, do you see discoloured patches on the bottom of the screen? (which are lighter than the rest). Please can you tell me which mode your screen is on, as then I can see if I can remove the problem by changing modes.
Also, It seems like when my screen is grey, there are lines all over the bottom half, that are slightly lighter than the rest of the screen.
Would you class this as a fault, as you can only see it in the dark, but I do use my phone in the dark a lot...
Do you think it is worth it to return it?
Also, if it is, do you think I should take it to the Samsung Service Center (I have full warranty, and Knox 0x0) or just return it to the seller

Well, first of all AMOLED technology isn't perfect and this is well known.
Most of users have a purple /pinkish tint on the bottom of the screen or top.
On mine aswell the bottom part of the screen is more pinkish or something like that, can be seem only on grey backgrounds bot i got used to it and doesn't bother me. Also i noticed when i keep brightness on very low level on white backgrounds like in play store i can see 1 or 2 slightly lighter horizontal lines.
To be honest doesn't bother me, all s4's i checked they all have some screen issues, because is AMOLED.
I have the same. That just something you have to live with.

Really? It doesn't seem very good that it should have lines across it tbh
I am quite disappointed - Does it also seem to have lines that look at bit like burn in, but can't be as the phone is brand new ,and i cant think of any time that i let burn in happen...

If they are visible even on high brightness then is a problem.
So if you can clearly see them on maximum brightness, then you can go and ask for a replacement

Bad news. Seems like these lines and discoluoration also happens on full brightness. Looks like I need a repair. I'll try and post some photos tomorrow...
Edit: I bought it on eBay. Should I open a case, or should I take it to a Samsung service Centre as there is one close to Me?
I have the same lines, mostly visible on gray backgrounds. I can really see it on the weatherbug load screen. The one my eye sees the most is about 25% up the screen from the bottom, but when I stare for a while I can see a lot more. From what I've read, this is normal.
I dont get a full equal black screen either.Its like light is trying to get through in the bottom half of screen.Its more noticeable on lower brightness.
Never noticed it before....

Im sorry for tell ya but i think u have LCD screen troubles, like HERE
Every S4 has grey bands across the screen. The worst is the one about 25% up from bottom.
It's just a flaw of AMOLED screen

But this was not the case for S3 screen when I had it. So it is the new panels that have this problem.

You're right, the S3 screen was fine.
The new panels in the S4 are crap ( in my opinion)
Only advantage is 1080p, which for a phone is pointless (again, my opinion)

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have absolutely no strange lines or differences in colour on any given background.
I only got mine a week ago though.
I'm sure you will mate, or you just haven't noticed it yet
I've had 7 different S4s and EVERY SINGLE ONE had banding in greys.

You are right I also had another s4 and the same thing. Probably if you go to the store and try the phones there all of them will have this. At first look with high brightness on it is not obvious but after looking carefully you will notice it.
