No "Never" Option? - Venue Pro General

After stupidly posting a question in the Win7 forum about disabiling the screen lock while the phone is plugged in and playing music, I was directed to an option under the 5 minutes that says "Never". However, this option does not show up on my phone...any idea why?

I think it got removed with Nodo. Becos prior to Nodo my DVP had it and after nodo, its gone.

I see, is there a workaround? As you may know, we cant edit the registry on the DVP.

I am guessing that it has to do with AMOLED screen and its issue with screen burn-in.
All of HTC's and LG's (all of which uses LCD) have the "never" option, but none of Samsung's (which has AMOLED) have that option.

Odd. The "never" option is still there for me.

Apparently yours is either different or pre-nodo which is highly doubtful because everybody has nodo.

Are you talking about the Screen time-out setting? I still have the Never option and I have NoDo w/ firmware 105.

Yep, I'm all NoDo'd up plus the security update.
And, we all are talking about screen time out settings, yeah?

yes we are talking about screen time out settings. Here is a pic to help clear things up:

Just checking. Seemed to be some slight confusion brewing. But, yes... the "never" option is still available for me. I also have one of the DVPs which is experiencing fewer issues than many have reported.
Related? Ask Mr. Owl.

The Never option is only available when you have the password turned off. When you turn the password feature on, the Never option disappears and you are reset to the default 5 minutes.

well this is extremely confusing. I went to settings to check out the theory to see if its true and my phone locked up - first time ever. I havent done anything with it all day, no calls or texts have come in...
I will further investigate this.

restarting the device solved the problems.
I still see no never option, even when the password is turned off.

Shift screen brightness 'Auto' setting - yours work?

As per the title, does the screen brightness 'Auto' setting and the light sensor actually do anything? Seems to make no difference on mine....

Hi,
yes it did, but I switched it off, cause it was too nervous. Brightness changed all the time when lonely clouds were passing, or the the cloudy thumb cast a shadow.
S.
Yes it works!:
Use Shagctrl to lower brightness and then switch it on. The brightness level you chose will be the minimum level.
If you cover the sensor in the top right-hand corner, the screen will dimm. When you aim you flashlight on it, it will brighten.
(at least... mine does...)
However, I don't use it, because my hand will frequently get in the way when I use the touchscreen and then my screen brightens suddenly... Verry anoying.

Hi,
this is a different question, but I didn't want to open another thread.
Who can confirm this?
Vista is running in the "background". Your are in WM, but have shut-down WM. So dark screen. But then exactly when Vista goes into standby (green light starts to blink) the WM screen comes to live.
Is that strange? Or just always the case?
Thanks!
S.

Hi Pantaloonie,
this looks like capital punishment for me, so sorry! Next question from several feet under.
Let me explain:
I am rather a newbie using forums like this, means the does and do nots are not always clear. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!
My thoughts were 1. the point was answered and 2. there are so many items on the site that it is not necessary to always start a new thread for every minor problem.
Wrong thinking?
Please, I really do not know, can you clarify? Do you really start a new thread for everything?
Thanks!
S.
Heh, I was just having a bit of fun, you did nothing wrong. Some forums can be very strict about keeping threads on topic, but we are pretty relaxed here.
The advantage of starting a new thread is that more people will see it, you're more likely to get an answer.

Maps giving many Awake locks on phone idle

Hi guys,
I'm just curious if is normal to get so many Awake locks, while the phone is on idle:

}
If is not, can you please tell me how I can fix this?
Thanks.
That don't look normal to me. Do you use latitude?
Latitude off, clear data and cache
Diced it here ... Too bad cause its a nice feature
I had this too.
Uncheck 'Use wireless networks' in the Location and security menu
and make sure you are signed out of Latitude
Ya I use latitude all the time so my friends know where I am.
I use latitude as well and I have the same issue. Maps gives a TON of wake locks with it activated. Problem is, I want to use latitude. I really don't understand the need for the constant awake time. It only updates the information every so often, it shouldn't be constant...
There is a defect for this bug that has been declined: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15057. I hope google will get to it at some point.
Thanks for the link. I did a test and I get like 24 of battery with the phone on idle... IMO is an amazing time... I might be wrong. On my old Pre2, I could of only DREAM of such specs. Still, if there is a fix to improve the battery with Latitude on, I'll take it.
Let's see how 2.3.5 update goes. Anyone knows when is it scheduled on generic firmware?
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my XXKG3.
I got a Map update couple days back and the issue seems to go away. Will keep an eye on it.
Too bad, latitude is nice.
Had the same issue about one month ago , and solved it by uninstalling one of the google map update via Titanium Backup and everyting went back to normal .
May be it's related to one of those "updates" , and as mentioned before you should try updaing to latest version ( if available ) or downgrade to lower version .

[Q] How can I get rid of the "wlan_ctrl_wake wakelock"?

Hey guys,
I have a serious problem with my Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005.
Since last month my battery drains like hell and at the same time, my wifi works not properly. It is on but only wenn I get into the Wifi-Settings it scans the location for signals. So it doesn't get into a wifi-router itself, I have to scan the area on my own and only after that it logs into the saved routers.
I used "Wake Lock Detector" to see which application doesnt let my processor sleep and I found that 90% of the time the "wlan_ctrl_wake" lets my phone awake. What can I do? I did nothing (I think) it would make it this way! Is my Wifi damaged? Or is it only a software problem? When I go by train it is the same problem. I don't think the problem is my router or something else but my phone. It is a problem of my phone.
When I turn Wi-Fi off, it works very well.
Sincerly,
Jan
@poanda in wifi settings press menu and advance there uncheck always allow scanning snd see if this works.
Also select never in keep wifi on during sleep.

So you're saying practically I shouldn't use Wi-Fi anymore? Because I know both are checked and they were never a problem. I don't think that's the solution (but I will test your first idea).
I think it is a deeper problem. I had never such an high wake up time and I use it since April'14.
And I forgot to tell that I updatet the ROM to KOT49H.N9500XXUGNI4 (Buildnumber) two weeks before the problem.
@fatman0 @poanda I didnt say stop using wifi I gave you som3 suggestions m

I'm not sure what could be the reason in your case. But you can try this:
Enter the code *#0011#, then press Menu button > WiFi, and make sure WIFI Power Save Mode is ON?
It was checked all the time
Does this screenshot help?
Ok it's already ON.

SOLVED [sm-g95ou] Default lock screen // cannot get past // not FRP // please help

I switched from sprint to T-Mobile. They screwed up and let us keep our old phones and did a discount for the hassle. I figure I don't need 2 S8's so I would just sell it. Welcome to my nightmare.....
So I factory reset the phone to get all my data off, I did this through the settings menu. No issues the phone reset. It was at the beginning new phone screen so I just left it.
The phone is at a password screen and I have maybe 5 passwords at most that I use various combos of, none of these work. I do some searching online and find out how to get into certain menus and do resets, and re-flash the stock rom. Even after those it wants a password.
I then think I'll just use find my phone with google and unlock it. Well it is a sprint phone and I have T-Mobile now so it has no connection, and I can't get past the password to get to the wifi settings. So google says it can't find my phone.
I contact Samsung and since it’s been less than a year they say they will help. I send in the phone and they send me it back with the crack on the back of the phone fixed and nothing else. I called and they said they have record of me asking for help with a password problem. I then ask if I can send it back and get that taken care of and they said it would cost 150$ because they fixed the phone......huh?
I really just want this password off the phone. At this point it’s a matter of I am more curious about finding a way to get it off the phone than selling it. I’m also open to all ideas. Taking it apart, flashing something third party on it.
If you need pictures I will get them up shortly. Or a video. At work currently, so I can probably reply in a timely manner. If you need more info please ask and I’ll try and get whatever you need
Thanks in advance

EDIT 2- sigh* I don't know why the images are sideways. They show the lock screen // the fact that is is not FRP locked // i have done a factory reset
fixed!!!!!!!!!!
I chose not to connect to the wireless network after setting it up and there are no longer any locks....no idea what that was about.

[Tips] What is Always on Display and How you can Enable it?

Hey EMUI Users,
If you are a Smartphone enthusiast, you might already have known the mechanism behind "Always on Display" and why it is used but if you don't really know about it, let me explain:
"Always on Display is a feature that comes mostly with Premium range Smartphones (including Huawei Smartphones) which enables you to keep your screen on all the time"
Now the question is: "Why would anyone want to turn on their Smartphone Screen all the time? Won't it empty your battery very quickly?"
There are 2 Parts of this questions, the first one is Why would anyone want to Turn on their Smartphone Screen all the time?
The answer to this question is fairly simple, some people don't like to pickup and activate their Smartphone screens to check if they received any new messages, emails and Missed Calls.
Having a screen that let's you know all this information but not too much information is a good thing right?
That is the reason where Always on Display or AOD comes to the rescue as it enables you to see if you have any new notifications so that you might not get distracted all the time by turning on your screen again and again.
Now comes the second part "Turning on the Always on Display can drain your batter very quickly?"
The answer to this question is a bit tricky as although turning on your Smartphone screen for long periods of time does consumes lot of battery but if your Smartphone has an OLED display, it really brings down the battery usages down because it specifically turns on the pixels that are required and the Always On Display takes benefit of this scenario and therefore only turns on essential pixel on your Screen instead of the whole screen to minimize battery usage
How to enable Always on Display on your Smartphone?
First of all you have to make sure that your Huawei Smartphone does contain this feature and contains and OLED display as well.
After confirming these 2 things:
On EMUI 10.0
Go to Settings-> Home screen & wallpaper -> Always On Display
