Double letter glitch/issue - Nexus S General

The double-letter glitch with the stock Android keyboard (and with other keyboards that have adopted the code to the stock Gingerbread keyboard, like Better Keyboard 8) is becoming obnoxious.
It happens so frequently, and not even when typing that fast either. It seems to happen only with the first letter of words... "like tthis" for example, but it'll also happen with the first two letters of a word... "like ththis." It's especially ridiculous when this happens with only two letter words, like... "I'm going toto the movies."
It's insane how frequent these glitches occur. And I'm not alone. A search in other forums of other phones running the stock Android keyboard will show threads about this exact issue as well.
A while back I filed a report to Google. If anybody is also experiencing this, please star the report, share, and even add your own experiences if you wish: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14755
I even made a video a while back to show Google: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZdvr6Pdjk
It's discussed more in length on this old thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11403637&postcount=168
This glitch has got to be addressed and fixed.

I have this problem as well. Have left a reply on the Google report. Really hope it gets fixed as its beginning to spoil my experience with this great phone!

Yea this is really annoying. When I was using Swift Key for a while it wasn't noticeable but now that I am back on the regular keyboard it is annoying as hell.

Interesting. I cannot reproduce on my device.

SMS and Swype

Apologies if this is a known issue but I have just spent 30 minutes searching and cannot find it.
When creating a new SMS message, if I start typing a name using Swype then no automatic look up is taking place, however if I backspace the last character typed, then the matching contact names appear. I have no problems when using the standard keyboard. (I do not think this is related to the known Swype and loading messages issue)
I have had issues with SMS on my Leo. To me, it seems to be related to the amount of previous messages you have for that person. For some odd reason it wants to try and load the whole thread before letting you type. Once you get to about 300 or so in the thread, it really slows things down.
Then again, i'm new to Winmo and phone hacking so I do not have any mem tweaks yet that could help with that issue.
So, if anyone knows... let us know!
Known swype issue mate, I have not found a fix, always delete the last character as you have done.
its not a known issue its something htc programmed it to do. its meant to only bring up with a few letters but if you know the whole name then it should automatically add the number. does it for mine just type the first few letters and they should show up
@op, yea, swype does that here too.

with swype, though? we know it comes up with other keyboards, but it doesnt with swype till you delete a letter.
Are you missing the OP's point, or am i missunderstanding your post?
Am i the only one that gets a fair amount of delay sometimes in SMS with swype? Just entering text in a message can sometimes cause the keyboard to stop working, it onyl effects swype and eventually (about 10sec) all is fine again.
Thinking of going back to the normal keyboard because of this issue
yep, and in landscape, just dont bother, hehe.
I generally switch to phonepad for txt's tho, so it's not an issue. (Doesnt seem to lag when doing other stuff, posting to here, for instance.)
Any way to prevent or even have the texts in a thread preloaded or something to fix the load-lag in sms? My screen locks until all of the texts are finished loading. Many times i can start texting and it will catch up, but not always.
Prob the most annoying thing i've come across so far..

Swype sucks

Is it just me or are you guys also realizing that swype is absolutely horrible on the htc aria. The aria has too small of a screen to be able to use swype well. Whenever I drag my finger to the next letter i cant see if im on that letter because my finger is over it and the screen is so small.
Just wondering what you guys thought about swype on the aria
Love it on the Aria. I am used to the small screen though, from my htc magic.

its not bad... i had it on my htc pure and the screen was also small, but i had a stylus on that which made things a lot easier.
I see what you're talking about. Fortunately I know where the keys are without seeing them so this isn't really a problem for me.
Love Swype on Aria, the point of using Swype is you don't need to look at the keyboard to type fast, which means you do need to know the position of the keys. I don't think it will make much different with a bigger screen since my thumb will still cover the keys I'm trying to type.
My only complaint about Swype is that you give up the voice-type feature when you use it. They really ought to reincorporate that feature, since it's nice to be able to take notes when I'm mumble, mumble, COUGH driving COUGH.
There. Now I've gone and done it. I've made Oprah hate me.

Corporate Dog
EDIT: Oh. I forgot. I actually have TWO complaints.
I HATE how the recommended words pop-up is implemented. If I'm typing 'Bioware', and Swype recommends 'beware', I'd prefer it if my closing of the pop-up meant, "No. I don't care for any of your suggestions. Keep what I typed, as I typed it." rather than, "Accept the top recommendation."
I know there's a user dictionary in my phone, and I've certainly added to it, but I'm constantly using non-standard words.
They put the microphone back in the latest beta, which they closed like 3 days after they opened it.

Same here.
It does get annoying from time to time, but I find it much easier than the standard keyboard. Especially when typing ridiculously long words which swype seems to pick up without a hitch.
Yea, I find the lack of a microphone shortcut annoying, too. Since I use Swype with my index finger, I don't really have a problem with the screen being too small. Swype is supposed to be able to correct for errors, anyways, but I have seen the correction fail at times. Swype is still more accurate than voice, anyways, and you can always resort to typing it out if Swype doesn't recognize it, which I think makes it better than voice. It would be amazing if voice worked perfectly, though, I'd never have to type again.

Aria Annoyances (scrolling and messages)

Does anyone else experience these?
1. Sometimes when scrolling a webpage, it starts scrolling really fast, fast enough to reach the bottom of the page.
2. When replying to a text message, the keyboard sometimes overlaps the last few messages and other times repositions the list so you do not need to scroll.
These two things are really annoying
I experience the messaging bug a lot. I kind of got used to it but it is quite annoying. I had a Euro Hero that didn't do this at all. Are you rooted and using a custom ROM? I'm still on stock but will be rooting soon.

I've experienced the speed-scroll many times. Hands down the most frustrating experience of this otherwise excellent phone.
Regarding the speed scroll, I have the captivate and it will occassionally do the same thing. I'm more inclined to believe it's an android thing than a device specific thing.
That message thing was driving me crazy when I first got the phone. Im on cyanogenmod now and it doesn't do it anymore.

its more a problem with touch technology in general. you can do the same think on a trackpad.
I'm on stock so I may switch to cyanogen to fix the message issue.
My iphone never had scrolling issues. Maybe I will post about it in the general android forums and see if other android users are having problems. It is really horrible.

[Q] Double Letters on Gingerbread Keyboard?

So I searched and couldn't find a direct answer basically here it goes,
I'm using CM7 and the gingerbread keyboard that comes stock. This has been happening since alpha and it slows down my texting. I'm a big texter, and I send about 25-35 thousand texts a month. So I need this to be fixed!
What happens, is that when I'm normally texting sometimes letters will automatically type themselves twice. Such as if I'm texting the word "always" it will usually come out as "aalways" and it looks dumb. I love the gingerbread keyboard but I might have to result in using another keyboard if this continues!(Does this drain battery life?) I don't want to use swype.
If there's a fix let me know! And I checked for a calibration setting and couldn't find one :/
Also happens to me. I just go back and fix it. It's not a HUGE problem, but it's there.
Happens to me also. I Googled it to make sure I'm not the only one. I was starting to think I had the beginning signs of Parkinsons. It's good to know I'm not the only one.
I've also noticed that there are times when the auto-suggest does not work. If you stop typing for a few seconds it comes back. And I've also had a problem with the keyboard not responding as fast I am typing and I have to slow down so it can keep up.
Did you try downloading a different keyboard from the market?
Yeah I'm actually using a downloaded gingerbread keyboard from the market. It just happens often enough to slow down my texting.
myTouch4G+Custom ROM
Yes, this is a frustrating reoccurring issue. Sometimes it'll even give you double letters of two of the first letters in a word, for example, "like ththis." It's especially ridiculous when it happens to only two letter words, like "to" for example, which results in "I'm going toto the movies."
I've filed a report with Google, so please visit the link and star and add your own testimony if you wish. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14755
I even made a video demonstrating the problem to show Google. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZdvr6Pdjk
Smart Keyboard Pro was my solution. Got tired of always getting "toto" when I type "to." And I also always get the doubt first letter on the word.
I'm on an epic 4g and I have this problem also. If you turn on the language packs when you push space bar and a quickly it wont register the "a". This problem doesn't occur nearly as often when typing with the language packs off. Just another thing to add to the complaint ;-)

Swype and hangouts problems

I have stock Note 3 and I've been running into issues with a lag or delay while using Swype in hangouts and other apps. I'm assuming it's an issue with Swype and it causes me to lose whole words. I wish the other Swype-esque keyboards were as good, but even the Google keyboard gets wrong more often than not compared.
The new hangouts has some additional issues for me where nothing I type shows up and the send button doesn't replace the camera location. I usually have to change keyboards to fix it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are not the only one...
Thought I was going crazy. But yes - definitely a Swype + Hangouts issue afoot.
Not sure if this is the place for help - I'd think hitting the Swype forums is best shot (which is my next port of call - this thread came up top on Google when I searched just now for this issue).
cheers
I have the same problem using Swype in Hangout on my Droid Maxx. I don't have issues with Swype in any other apps.
Swype becomes sluggish and whole words are oddly lost, among other problems.
