pink spot camera solution - Galaxy S II General

Hello you all,
I would like to ask: almost everybody has this pink spot on camera. Could someone confirm that KE7 upgrade solves this problem? or KF1 ? or how to get rid of it without always changing white balance, auto contrast etc?
Thanks

nope, got pink spots on both my front and rearcam on ke7and kf1 (latest cam firmware)

So where about`s is this pink spot , does the photo need to be dark or lite to see it or what?

you will only notice on white backgrounds such as ceilings in the light.

I can see it now , I have had enough of this phone it`s going back

This is the best camera on a mobile phone I have ever seen and the pink spot is barely noticeably and most likely just a bug not a hardware problem (since both my cameras are affected)

It's an Android bug, we have it too on DHD and N1

don't see it on my desire (running 2.3.3 w/ sense)

what pink spot?? I dont see it when using camera..
EDIT: crap..i do have a pink spot..damn!!! I was feeling good for a minute

Ive got KE7 and both the camera firmware upgrades, and testing indoors and outdoors, in great lighting conditions and bad ones, I do not have a pink red or any other colour dot or area on my photo's.
I have very good eyesight and spotted this on my HTC desire, but it is not present on my SGS 2. Photo's and video's on it are absolutely spot on.
I'm on O2 Galaxy S2 unlocked.

You only get the pink spot if you set the white balance to automatic, so if you are bothered with it change it in the camera dropdown menu

Pink spot appears in photos too, not just when taking the photo I can provide you pics made with the SII that clearly show the pink spot.

TMOUS HD2 still has the pink camera spot?

ROM 2.10.531.1 (82076) WWE still has a huge pink spot in attached pictures. Looks like it's definitely a hardware problem with probably the low-quality plastic lens. Possible chromatic aberration?
yup, my phone has it too. I took some pics of a blank sheet of paper and there was a nice pink hue in the middle of the paper!
Wasn't there a software fix for this?

The released hotfix is only for 1.66 roms and LOWER, and assuming this 2.10.x rom has all previous hotfixes rolled into it.
I see.
For the record, I have the same ROM as you and I don't seem to have the spot.
Camera
I have taken probably 100 + photos and have yet to notice any spots.
In fact, so far, I am very pleased with the quality of the photos the HD2 produces. By far the best camera on any phone I have owned, and thats been quite a few...
Stock rom installed.

take a pic of a blank sheet of paper in daylight and see if any pink shows up, or anything that's white will do.

Just tried it, and no spots. Someone mentioned the lens cover, possibly a lens to lens problem. Others are not effected by this problem as well.

I'm having a problem with green tint in my pictures. And sometimes the flash makes the pictures too bright. There should be a way to disable one of the lights in the flash. You don't need it all the time in my opinon. I called tmobile about the green tint in my pics. They are sending me a new phone. Hopefully it works out ok. Has anyone else experienced this??
I'm not having this issue. I would have to say it's probably a manufacturer's error.
Have you contacted T-Mobile or HTC about it?
BTW, this phone's video and picture capabilities are actually better than my $200 Cannon, LOL!
i only get the greenish-yellow tint only when it's a picture taken with flash, lol, pick your poison, no flash for pink, flash for green-yellow!
yes i did...they are going to send me a another phone. Wish me luck
I still have it after manually patching the phone. I think it has to do with shooting outdoors in sunlight though.
I've checked my history of FUZE/Touch Pro pictures and they have a pink spot too (visible in the histogram in Picasa)!
It looks like it's common HTC camera problem that I can date back possibly to the TyTN II which explains why it still shows up in TMOUS HD2 after all the European HD2 hubbub. So much for Quietly Brilliant.
That's unfortunate for ANYONE who has experienced this "apparently" still existing issue with the camera. I have had NO such trouble, whatsoever. All of my photos have been insanely crisp, and absolutely gorgeous.
Then again, I did perform a registry tweak to increase the maximum resolution that the camera is capable of outputting.
now that you mention it
Heres some pictures i snapped all of which have a slight pinkish tint to them i didn't notice it till today. Anyone working on a fix? Or should i see if T-mobile will trade me out phones?
Normally i wouldn't care but I take a lot of pictures like all the time and this is gonna start bugging me
HHHMMMMM Interesting
Look what I found

let me go take a picture with my Nexus see if it does it too
Edit: Ok Im back and so i guess HTC FTL!!! lol j/k oh well i guess I'm gonna have to settle for pink.
I'm gonna try my Dads 3GS next time I see him.

So that's why I see it in my Touch Pro too! So it must be camera optics.
It can't be sensor/uv burn-in because TMOUS HD2 is brand new less a week old spending most of its time in indoors and in pouches. It's very apparent on histograms.
If it's a white balance issue, it is contradicted by the fact it's a circle and not an overall image issue. It's also NOT present on DSLRs and other normal cameras that I've used.

Pink spot is gone

Hi all,
S I downloaded another firmware update from Samsung apps - with date 11.06.2011.. Updated the camera and pink spot is gone, not even visible. My camera firmware is - OCEF 02 OCEED 11.. I had KE2 when i bought phone, updated via odin to KE7. Before this update i downloaded and installed all other updates that samsung apps offer..
Samsung made it!!
I downloaded the cam update from Samsung Apps today, my phone shows:
Cam FW Ver: OCEF02
Phone FW Ver: TBEC28
Pink spot still present. Posted pic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14965006&postcount=190
Guys, its mostly because of the hardware.. but possible software issue too.
try to clean the lense of your camera.
I noticed, that I sometimes had a big pink spot and most times nothing at all.
And after I cleaned it very good, it was gone most of the time, but for some reason not allways.. really strange, but it helped alot to clean the cam lense!
try it and post, if it helped!
hmm, thats strange.. I also had photos like you.. Are you on KE7? I installed one previouse update, i think it was something like firmware OC.. But i dindt install previouse camera samsung firmware 2 update or something like that..
I can see now clearly that phone is managing the white balance totally differnt than when pink spot was present..

It's 100% a software problem but there are different cams out there so not all might be affected. To workaround and prove it's software just change the white balance to anything other than auto and the pink spot will be gone.

Yeah, i know, would be nice though if cam would be usable with auto balance though Hopefully sooner or later there will be an update to fix that. Does your camera make 2 slight sounds when opening it and when switching to video mode ?
now you say it it used to but not anymore since i am on kf1
edit: it's back

cool, didn't know that about the white balance.
I was really wondering about this pink spot issue.
The pink spot is part a hardware issue anyway, because the camlense glass (the one that protects the cam) is little bit of lila/pink if you look at it from different angles.

Sorry to disagree, but it can't be hardware as cam works perfectly if you don't use auto white balance mode. Pink spot appears only when you take photos of white things indoors with no flashlight or other source of light.
I even got the pink spot on my front cam, so it's got to be a software issue
The Samsung apps app said i have an update for my camera , the date is 22/06/11 , today, so i am currently flashing it i hope it does not kill my camera
Ok, maybe.. but check out the cam glass i talked about above.
It's a little lila/purple right ?

don't know, can't check really nor if the firmware update fixed the pink spot, it's too dark
Depends on how the light reflects in the glass, now in my room with my light on i see it green, other times looks like a rainbow of colors.
Well the flash went OK, but i will not be able to test it till tomorrow as the pink spot appears to show up in daylight, I saw it against my white refrigerator
I don't know if this is a new update or not, as the Samsung apps app is still saying that there is still a update for my camera
The camera firmware update 11.6.01 went on fine. Not sure about the pink spot yet but have noticed when zoomed into a picture through the gallery you can now scroll left and right to the next picture without having to zoom out again. Is this new, if so it is much better.
There is still no mute shutter sound option though :-(

Check your cam firmware version, if it's OCEF02 you have the latest update installed.
Do you guys notice with the latest camera firmware (SCEF02) when filming the framerate drops massively when focusing?

KF2 doesn't have any shutter sounds if you flash it. I just downloaded the camera update but battery is too low to test it, will keep an eye on any differences.

Camera Dust

Hello,
I have a DHD and i am happy but after some use I notice that a "dot" appears on my photos. I checked the external lens, everything is clean and i dont have scratches. My DHD only have 6 months of use. What is the best solution, open it or contact the warranty?
The photo 4 have a yellow shadow, can anyone explain this?
The photos are here.
Thanks!
I really wouldn't open it m8. One you probably won't get everything back together and I'm pretty sure this would void your warranty

I don't know about the dot, but I have the same issue with the yellow hue in the middle of my pics. It seems to happen more indoors than out, but it's there.
i get a pink spot in low light conditions...

Same issue, and once you have seen it you will see it on pictures and videos from other people too.
You can see the spot on a gray background. So if you have like gray tiles or piece of paper it is your best bet to see it.
Now I noticed that you can bring down the spot to almost zero by reducing the contrast setting. Mine is always 1 notch down from standard which I already found having to much contrast to be natural.
Maybe you have dead pixels?

For dead pixel it's very strange, because the pixels are perfect dots.
I think it may actually be some sort of software issue...
I flashed a CM7 based rom a while ago and i don't seem to be able to get the pink spot to appear anymore (With LGcamera)... (There used to be a pink spot for me while using the sense camera)

Pink Tint on Camera

Hi All - had my Note for a couple of weeks now, hardly used the camera but just tried it and there is a pink tint/hue at the centre of the camera view area which shows on taken pics too. Wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I have the international/UK white version of the Note.

Yes Ive seen the problem with the S2, however its really noticeable and it seems that Samsung have not fixed the problem at all. Really quite disappointed with it on such a high end device.
i saw it happen once recently with low light and low screen brightness on one camera app. but didnt happen with other camera apps. dont remember which app though. so try other camera apps to see if it is an app problem. turn up screen brightness and see if issue resolves
this problem is very common (the HTC devices i owned had the same issue) and there is not really a solution to it for now. the reason for this problem is within the optics, it CAN be compensated software-wise, but there is no 100% compensation possible. also this occurs only for specific wavelengths, therefore the light-source is important too!
All due to cheap sensors. The sensor isn't big enough to let sufficient light in so the darkest part (the center) gets the weird pink effect. You won't see too much of this when you're out in a sunny day.
This is just the nature of the game with cellphone sensors.
hmmmm... it seems blue on my phone. not pink at all

mine is a perfect mix of VIBGYOR pattern (white!)
mine is sometimes green.
but its seams to be problem with the AWB (auto white balance) and artificial light sources. If I change my WB to a daylight (or what ever) the pink/green spot is gone. When i switch back to AWB most of the time the pink/green spot is also gone
i would appreciate if you can test this

[Q] The Flashlight!

Hey guys!
I have a problem with my Z1!
Everytime I take pictures in the dark, and the flash is enabled, there is a white area in my picture!!
I added pictures so that you can see what I mean!
Is it a hardware or a software problem!? I already talked to the Sony support but there was no solution!
Do you have the same problem??
Thanks for your help!
risogalo
Do you have the white version by any chance?
I know a few people have mentioned the placement of the camera flash causes some flashback, causing the white marks you see in the pictures, my camera is useless in my case, total whiteout.
Do you have a scrren protector sheet on the backside or a phone case? Try to remove both and check, if the Problem is gone.
I had this problem too, until I realized that it was caused by the protector sheet which scattered the flash light into the camera lens. I solved this by cutting the sheet area between camera and flash in shape of a V. Now the picture artefacts are gone.
Another cause for this effect can be light from the flash, reflected by your fingers. This can happen, even if the fingers are not in front of the lens itself, so you don't see them. I crippled a few photos that way, so now I take care not to touch the upper left corner of the phone while using the camera.

Yes, I have it by any chance when I take pictures in the dark! With the screen protector and without - with case and without!
And now, after 4.3 finally arrived for unbranded devices in Germany, I can slightly see an improvement of this problem!
But anyway its annoying!
But why does that happen? Will Sony send my a new phone when I send it to them? Or is this problem with every Xperia Z1??

Like I already mentioned above - this problem occurs with screen protector/case & without!!
And after updating to 4.3 I could see slightly improvements!
These pictures where taken with the intention not reflecting the light from my fingers!!!
So you can see I already tried almost everything!!
But also in general I expected a better performance of the camera!!
The HDR Mode can only be used with still objects!!??
Who came up with this s**t!?
With my mothers iPhone 4s I can take better HDR pictures!!
but anyway, is there any solution? Do you think Sony can solve this problem (by replacing my phone)?
Because I already talked to the Sony Support, and they said that I should update my phone or doing a reset!
So the support wasn't that problem-solving!

It's not Hardware or Software related, can be with software improved but the main reason is the position of the flash, it's too close to the lens. @Kirkymole already said this. Some people do not take in consideration this issue because with some settings can be improved the quality of the pictures but I actually do not paid a lot of money to waste my time to set up my camera all the time to avoid the white marks on my pictures. Nobody can said I am wrong if I said this, if the flash will be far away from the lens we will get better pictures in low light.
Try with reduced Exposure. In Manual mode you can decrease the Exposure. I tried with decreased Exposure and the picture was way better.

I can concur with the previous 2 posts that the issue is not with the phone but with the holding of the phone. I took pictures in low light and the flash reflected off my finger back onto the lens, even though my finger was not in front of the lens, I then took the same picture holding the phone by my finger nails and there was no interference. It just means that now i will have to hold the phone by the edges (slightly uncomfortable with the phone being so thin) Thanks for the input i couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was but discussing it here helped. It seems so trivial now but thanks guys.
