unstable GPS signal in HD mini - HD Mini General

Hello,
quite suddenly, my GPS signal got instable. It happens in several software programs so it really seems to be the signal that is not correct. It gets a fix quite easily, but position is off mucht of the time, and also the direction and alitude are wrong. I attached a profile recorded during a car ride, here in Holland everything is flat, the profile should have been around 0m height all the time. But you can see it goes from -180m to +20m. Everytime when there is a jump, there is also a jump in the location. Before I do a hard reset I wanted to check if this has happened to anyone else before?
Also, I ran Android before, but the swtiching back and forth has not given this issue before.

I can confirm that the GPS time is exactly 2 hours behind !
Edit:
also the direction and Altitude are different from the "Navigon" (native device)
GPS uses now UTC-1 as Timezone ??
It was previously UTC+1 Timezone

You asked I answered , now you see you're not the only one with this problem
You're welcome!
Hard reset also does not solve the problem. One thing is clear that the bug is in the android, in determining UTC "only one row of letters" (the code) must be changed: that GPS should use local system time and everything will work correctly, however I am not so talented to get it solved.

I still don't understand why the time is the problem. I think it is normal that in western europe, the time is UTC+2 in summer and UTC+1 in winter. So to me this looks normal. If I look at the raw track file, the time stamp for each line is ok, but the position/altitude info is unstable. But today, everything was fine again. So I get lost a bit, and I will keep a track on what happens and record it here again.

Enough satellites but no fix

Hello all,
I am using Froyo XXJPO on my Galasy I9000. My problem is, that I cant get a GPS fix. But I can see 9 satellites if I use a GPS test tool.
Any idea what I can try? Thank you.
Well this is a first, someone having a gps problem.....you tried any of the million suggestions already posted?

While it's true that GPS problem has been discussed at lengths, people normally complain about poor accuracy and intermittent fix.
OP here is talking about another problem which I now experience myself since upgrading to Froyo. Quite often, SGS sees plenty satellites with SNR above 30, but just doesn't use them. At the same time and place my friend's Nexus sees less satellites but gets a fast and sure fix with them. This seems to be a driver problem in Froyo, not a hardware issue.
Edit: Forgot to mention that SGS usually gets the fix eventually, it just takes up to 15 minutes sometimes.
No fix issues have been done to death as well. Normally sorted by dicking around with your supl settings in the hidden menu.
Gps is just ****e on this thing, hope one of the solutions works for you.

Get GPS Status (from the market)
Reset and redownload A-Gps from the menu (menu, tools, Manage A-GPS State)

It was the first thing I tried as soon as this issue appeared.
Doesn't make much difference if any.
By the way, on Eclair GPS worked just great for me (with JM7, that is. Before JM7 it barely worked at all).
I got the exact same issue, I can see like 8-10 sattelites with plenty of +30db and can't get a fix. My TomTom gps from 3 years old only sees 4-5 but gets instant fix.
Before I was on JP2 and this didn't happen > it fixed fast and sees the same amount of sats.
However, I must say that accuracy is great, when I do get a fix, accuracy goes up to 16 feet within the minute ands stays that way.
can you look into the LBS settings and tell me what is the accuracy used?

In my first tool I have written something about "GPS test tool". This GPS test tool is GPS Status. If I download A GPS data again make no chenges. Just a lot of satellites wihtout fix.

Well, to both
LBS Menu: *#*#1472365#*#*
Standalone + "Hot Start" + Accuracy More than 15 + "Automatic" in SUPL settings.
Actually, it's now *#3214789650# (since Froyo or late Eclair ROMs)
I'm using accuracy 30 now. Was testing it with 50 some time ago with no noticeable difference.
Weird, and it was working before right?
Have you hard reseted the device prior and after the rom upgrade and cleared the caches?

when i try to access this LBS menu in froyo i hit the final * key then it all disappears and no menu pops up.....
What am i doing wrong?
Same problem here.
GPS was great and dead-on accurate on 2.1 (O2 UK official firmware) and now it rubbish (O2 official froyo).
This is not a hardware issue.
same problem here, just that there are no values in gps test (time is always 00:00 as well as all others and the compass is jumping back and forth.. the day before yesterday before i've had used faster fix it worked great =( ) anyone knows how to fix without reflashing?
Weird, I got the exact same firmware as a collegue and he gets a fix way faster than me, he even sees sats inside our officebuilding (I see none).
However, using the 3214789650 code and doing the Get Position test, he gets a weird orange text where I just get regular information.

Google IO Tab 10.1 Time Issue (Fix include)

Hey guys,
So as an attendee to IO, I got a 10.1 tab; only problem is it was using the European time zone and for whatever reason used my google account settings which told it to automatically pull down the time from the servers (which would then report an incorrect time due to the incorrect time zone). I guess there's some kind of bug in the settings for the tab as it's missing the option to turn off automatic time, so I was left with a tab that had the incorrect time and could not be set.
So I wrote an android app that manually over-rides the automatic time setting, and it worked like a charm. If anyone else out there is having this issue, I have an apk file on hand that you can use to unlock your tab's time. Just make a post here and I'll try and get back to you asap.
I'd love to get that .apk. Thanks for your work!
Thanks for the fix. I bet most of us here still don't have the device yet, to benefit from your work. But we would appreciate if you could post your impressions about the device
i would love to get my hands on that I was frustrated at this unfortunate bug :-/ luckily during the conference it was the right time but now I need east coast time.
Apparently you can wipe to fix it but would rather not
I had this problem as well.
It is a bug in the pre-release software supposedly. You can download timezone changer from the market to fix.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.futurek.android.tzc&feature=search_result
Mine worked well until I attached the tab to Exchange. At that point it switched to GMT and locked me out of the setting. The Time Zone Corrector seemed to fix the problem.
I hope that 3.1 update comes as soon as they indicated it would... I don't know if I'm optimistic about it though.
Ah OK there you go. Interesting bug though, it didn't happen to a friend who got a tab as well, so some of you might be fine.
Could use apk, if its still available. Thanks
Well I need to make 8 posts to post a link... so you're going to have to make this link for yourselves:

All this program does is disable automatic time zones and clocks on your device.

Worked great for unlocking but I notice the time zone still resets every time you reboot. Is this the same for everyone?
I think there is an easier way, with a non-apk to do it. When I was going through the settings, i ran across an area to set locale. Since I didn't have to change the locale (PDT), I didn't go into the settings. If I can find it again, I'll post where it is.
N/M. The locale setting I saw in the samsung apps, you can reset the locale on it, but it doesn't do anything.

If it is resetting (I've not tried this on mine) it'll be because it is pulling the time down from online. I ended up doing a factory restore today to fix the time zone.
On a separate issue I was having a partial success using XJNB to sync files with my Mac (see my 'first impressions' blog post post at surfsoftconsulting.com) but since the factory restore this has stopped working completely.
Other issues I have noticed:
Samsung browser is still very buggy compared to the vanilla Android browser. It crashes less than the one on the Galaxy Tab 7" but frequently fails to redraw large areas of the page when scrolling.
Using the camera forces bluetooth to be turned off.
Plugging the Galaxy Tab into a computer for sync forces bluetooth to be turned off.
Can't mount the (virtual) SD card as a drive on the computer you plug the tablet in to - you can only use the (buggy) MTP implementation called 'Kies'.
On the plus side:
Stock keyboard (not the default Samsung one) is good, I can almost touch-type.
I watched about 4.5 hours of DivX video and played about 3 hours of music during my 10 hour flight back to the UK and the battery was still 35% full on landing.
Thanks for the fix! I thought I was going crazy!!

GPS and athletic programs like Runtastic problem

Is it my device or is it a general problem? Gps of G2 locks very very fast, has signal even inside of a room, lock many more satellites than any previous phone. I dont have problem with car navigation eg navigon. So where is the problem?
I go for running. I use runtastic. Here is a photo of recording of gps:
It is very very bad. It is like it takes signal every 30 seconds or something and draw lines. . I run in the road but it shows like i run in parking , or above cars. The same applications with galaxy s2 is very accurate. I also tried many others athletic applications to see if it is some incompatibility of runtastic but, the same happens to all.
I even tried tracker booster from play store to see if it is a sleeping problem , but didnt help.
Any help on this? Anyone using G2 for running , to write his experience? Thanks.
Have you tried other apps? If it doesn't happen in other apps, it's probably this one.

I'm on my second G2 (took one back to buy at full retain), and used each for 10+ days. I use Endomondo, no issues on either phone. Not sure if you can or if even possible to try and recalibrate the gps signal. May be your gps chip, and if you can, return it.
Even having same issue using say, My Tracks?

My tracks i haven't try. I have try endomondo , same problem. Best of all work sport tracker. I just notice that even navigon have a small problem. When i stop it still goes on and again go back.. With galaxy s2 that wasnt the case. .
As i have bought from foreign eshop it is very difficult to return. . I dont have any other problem except of this but , it is important for me...
Perhaps first of all i have to do a factory reset.
If there is any way to recalibrate gps, if anyone knows... I am rooted. .

Yeah, I mean, it seems like something is wonky with your gps. Have you tried: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
Understandably this is important. I had similar issues with my 2year old GNexus, and it drove me crae crae. At the very most, cna try a factory reset... but I'd check the other gps I linked to see if that helps.
Good luck!

[Q] Is GPS working RELIABLY for anyone?

Hi Everyone,
I've seen three Note 3 on 4.4.2 and they ALL experience GPS resets and different times of the day. Unfortunately I do not have a Note 3 still on 4.3 and courtesy of Samsung I cannot downgrade. A number of users report that the issue was introduced on the N9005 with version 4.4.2.
I'm going to buy another Note 3 and NOT upgrade if this fixes the issue but I'd like to know whether anyone is using their GPS on the N9005 EXTENSIVELY, during the whole day and is not experiencing ANY odd GPS resets, GPS fix lost or other GPS related issues.
I don't want to know about the time it takes to get a fix or the quality of the signal. ALL of the phones I got to look at lost ALL satellites in places where there was NO reason to lose the fix, i.e. out in the open with clear view of the sky and ALL of them did so repeatedly.
If a new phone will fix the issue but I don't want to end up with another dud which I will then have to return. Because the issue is intermittent and somehow related to the time of day AND can only be reproduced outdoors this would be one painful exercise.
So if you do use GPS regularly to navigate etc please let me know how yours works and version of OS you're on.
TIA
I use mine about 6-8 hours a day.
Mainly to keep track of where the train I am on currently is and for navigating streets. And to map out and follow a route when I'm doing an urban or landscape shoot. (Photography).
I've never had issues with my N9005 DBT 4.4.2 NB7, nor on any of the previous versions. It's always accurate and always constant. (Except when I'm in a tunnel or on the tube. But that's physics 101.)
It has never lost all satellites, nor has it ever lost the connection without a perfectly valid reason.
I've done a factory reset and my GPS still takes over 10 minutes to find my location....... If it finds it at all.

Sure, my GPS is usually fine. Locks quickly and reception is OK. Obviously I lose signal in tunnels and in the CBD sometimes so this is not about that.
I could be in the middle of nowhere with nothing blocking my sight although it's obviously most annoying while driving. I lost the signal when I should not. It usually looks just like the GPS resets or so, without moving much at all the signal will drop from 20 satellites down to four then none within 2 or 3 seconds. Then it slowly comes back, gets a lock and works fine again. The lock could then last for a minute or two and then it just happens again. This seems to mostly happen in the afternoon to early evening.....don ask why :-|
I've tried just about everything. Initially I thought it was a hardware defect but my wife's Note 3 does exactly the same thing......what are the odds of having two Note 3 (bought different places about 2 weeks apart) the exact same problem? I had a quick look at a third one (not one of ours so I didn't get to spend much time with it) but it seemed to do the same thing as well, i.e. lost the signal while standing still with no buildings (and mountains etc) around me.

[Q] Cyanogen 11, M8, GPS down

Hi everyone,
Sorry to bother with that, but i have an issue with my Galaxy Note 3 LTE, Cyanogen 11 M8.
Fresh install, everything wiped.
It seems that the GPS is fully down... GPS Status is unable to see or lock anything, Navigation freeze etc....
Maps is able to find my position, but only with network enabled.... if i disabled it... it is lost
In GPS Status, app stay "looking for GPS localization", and when a start an app that need the gps, the Gps Status appears a few second, with an "X".
I neved had this kind of issue, and i didn't find any clues over Internet (but i've seen people with the same issue)
I'm almost sure it was working in M7... i didn't use the gps since i upgrade the phone.
So, has anyone an idea about my problem ?
Many thanks
I had the same issue with the same configuration...
For me, it had to do with the 3G phone tower which appears not to be updated to certain parameters...
This happened when I was in a tiny village of the South West of the UK...
I then try the GPS in other cities, 50 miles away, and everything went back to normal...
I live in London, and travel abroad monthly; and no issues there also...
I would suggest to try your GPS in an other area...

Thanks,
I also live in a small city in France, i hope your solution will also work for me !
I will try tomorrow, in a "bigger city"
Unfortunately... i took my car and drive to be closer of a big city... no success.
It seams that the GPS is down... 'cause i launch some apps that give the signal received by the phone... and it appears that received absolutly nothing. (0, nada, the void)
I've tried to revert to M7 : no GPS at all.
Tried some gps.conf found on the forum : nothing.
It start to scare me, i hope the GPS is not "broken" (could i have killed the GPS antenna ?)
Anyway, i'm still looking for any clues or a way to check the GPS log.
Thanks

GPS connect has NOTHING to do with the SIZE of the city the only factor SHOULD be view of clear SKY.
I was going to say that GPS only works when you're outdoors. Trying to get a signal wont work when in your home etc
For info :
My GPS problem seems to be related to Android 4.4.4.
There's many people complaining that the GPS became innacurate or simply unavailable with this version.
And, it seems that the Cyanogen team has issues making the GPS work for Cyanogen 11 M9 (it's on the wiki).
Currently, there's no fix available. (for some people, rewrinting all APN worked, even if it's not related to GPS, etc etc etc... there's many solution available, but not working for everyone.)
Same issue here, prognosis for it should be posted here, Thx.
Hi Everyone,
If there's people following this thread, i'm still looking for a solution...
Here's all the thing i've tried, without success :
- Reinstall / change Modem
- Back to stock rom (GPS still not working)
- Format /system and reinstall
- Re-Partition
- NV Rebuild
Each time, it's the same thing : i start GPS Status, and i get the icon with the cross, and nothing happen.

Sometimes with Odin, sometimes with Clockwork... don't remember exactly
Each time, i was never able to get a GPS signal.
If you ODIN'd back to stock and GPS is still down on stock ROM, then you probably have a hardware issue. There is a GPS fix thread on the forum with pics of the hardware breakdown.
Hi everyone,
I can't explain what happened... but my GPS is back. hallelujah !
I saw this morning that the Cyanogen 11 M10 for the hlte (Galaxy Note 3) was available.
I update the Cyanogen i had installed (M9)... and test GPS right after that... nothing.
And then, i tested it tonight, the satellite dish appeared with the cross... but i was able to "touch" it with my finger : And then the icon dissapeared, and the new icon with the sattelite dish and the wave appeared and i saw GPS Signal !
I got a lock after a few sec.
Sorry guys, i don't have any answer about what happened, and how tthe GPS got back to work.
But anyway, thanks for the help !
