Brightness tip - Galaxy S II General

Couldn't finds this on a search, so just in case people didn't know, here it is.
Place your thumb on the notification bar, and instead of pulling it down, slide left to make the brightness go down and right to go up.
I found this accidentally. This may be old news to some of you, but I thought it was pretty cool little feature.

Aight. Cool. This is something new for me. And i like the brightness trick . The screenshot maker is terrible. Volume up and power and home button at the same time. Making screenshots with volume widget in screen. Aarrrg better take a app to do this

you don't have to press vol up, power and home button is enough.

Oh well, that's a cool find. You have to disable the Auto brightness though

I also found it accidentally. Pretty cool feature for those who change brightness more frequently.

Setting Brightness ... sliding across Notification bar..

I know A LOT of people know this.. you can slide your finger accross the notification bar to set the screen brightness when auto brightness is turned off.
Well something I found out today.. you don't slide at all.. you can.. but you just got to pick a spot on the notification bar and long press. So you want it at 50%, long press in the middle.
This is a lot better too... more sensitive.

I didn't know either of these features so thanks for this post

Works for me on PWGB beta 3. This is why I like Android so much, the hidden little tricks and short cuts.
just the old trick. I find this tip potential more than 2 months ago on youtube

"poor" home button

i dont know if it's just my mobile but i dont like so much my home buton.
When i holding him it can be move left-right-1-2mm.
I's not compact like iphone, altough i dont like apple crap.
This mobile i so perfect, but this home button annoys me.
Also the sound when i click it...
It looks so cheap...what do u folks thing?
I don't like the button and doubt how long it will work properly ! The button should have been made with more solid hardware as it's the only button you have on GSII.

sure i agree with you.IT LOOK'S SO SO CHEAP.
let's hear other opinions?
It's damn cheap. I hate the sound. Sometimes I click it once and it sounds as if I clicked twice. Hate it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Maybe there are some quality control issues with the button. Mine is rock solid. It barely wiggles, and makes a satisfying click sound. WAY better than the home button I had on my iPhone 4.
Now I've got rid of Touchwiz, that home button is the only fly in the ointment. The capacitive one on my DHD was so much nicer. Hopefully Samsung won't feel the need to continue copying this pointless feature of the iphone on any future phones.
I miss track ball with colors notification from nexus one... it was awesome!

Satisfying? I hate this sound. Like its some old mobile. I asked on another forum and they suggest takin to repair center.
Can you do a test?
Put your finger on the button and try it move left right, mine goes 2mm.
Also when you press button is there a click sound?
Why they didnt make like iphone...

I tried mine and it moves but nowhere close to 1 or 2 mm.. I checked with my ruler and it only moves .5mm .. For me the clicking sound is not that loud and annoying..

Mine doesn't move at all. When presses in its makes a faint click and a duller faint click when released.
Mine wiggles too but I don't think it will break easily. Sammy qc is not so bad compared to other companies. should be ok. I hope^^
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Mine wiggles a bit but not like yours. Or maybe you're forcing it to wiggle? If I just press like normal it doesn't move or wiggle.

My button's sideways shift is immeasurably small.. I'd guess 0.2 at the very most, only just enough to allow room for not pressing the centre... the click is a nice muted reassurance of interaction.
I didn't know it before... but I love my home button. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Mine worked properly for about a month, then started to wiggle and sound as if I press it twice. It almost sounds like pressing a camera shutter, half press to focus and full press to take the shot.

I kind of like the feel and look of it actually. Now I've only had my phone for a week, but it doesn't move or anything like that for me!
I've always preferred hardware buttons too, especially for the home button. Playing around with my friend's Nexus S was horrid because of those buttons, same goes for another friend's Incredible S.
I'm hoping it lasts past this 2 month mark though, you guys are scaring me now.

Dropdown bar brightness slider?

Anyone else know about this? Was wondering why my brightness was changing when holding the phone to my ear....
I was initially thinking it was a proximeter sensor, but nope. Its a slider built into the notification bar. Press and hold at the left of the bar and while keeping your finger held to the bar, move to the right. And ofcourse left to turn it down.
Not really crazy about this feature really. Wish I could disable it.

Doesn't work if you have auto brightness enabled.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
can save some battery by turning auto brightness off and use the slider to adjust the brightness.
I dig it too. It saves time & frustration when you're out in the sun, step into a building & are all blinded by the sunlight, to the point where you can't navigate through menus. Just hold the notification, sliiiide & bam.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a TouchWiz thing? Or possibly Samsung? My wife has a lower-end Samsung (don't remember, but it's one of the Virgin Mobile ones), and it doesn't have this feature.
When you hold your phone close to your ear while in a phone call, the proximity sensor turns the screen off, so your ear touching the screen would not be changing the brightness. If auto brightness is enabled, it's really touchy and will change brightness rather quickly.
It works without sliding all you have to do is hold it on the left and it dims and if you hold it on the right it brightens

+1. Auto-brightness is also a battery killer. Learn to embrace the slide feature.
How do you enable it in CM7? I thought this was touch wiz. I miss the feature when running the

If you hold it from the corners it only maxes the brightness or lowers the brightness to the lowest setting. When sliding you can control how bright you want your screen.

Found a new feature in Jelly Bean 4.1.2, easy zoom in/out browser

I'm not sure if this is a repost but I have found buy swiping your finger up or down on the either sides of the screen, you can zoom in and out in the internet.
Pretty good feature. :good:

right, taught of that.

bummer
I took a screenshot using Quick Memo and it DID include the notification bar. Did I understand the issue correctly?
I used the Home-button-drag (to the right).
