[Tutorial] How To Unbrick your galaxy 3 - Galaxy 3 General

If your phone doesn’t boot into download mode and you have a black screen after flashing froyo heres how you unbrick it, it worked for me.
Step 1 – Prepare odin with the firmware u want to flash (in my case was I5800XXJPM) and get it ready to go;
Step 2 – Remove battery, SIM and SD card, next connect your galaxy 3 to the computer;
Step 3 – Hold Volume down + Power + Home button at the same time;
Step 4 – Insert the battery and wait a bit;
Step 5 – At this point Odin should have detected your SG3 ( Yellow rectangle should appear in your );
Step 6 – Click Start button in Odin and wait about 5 min.
If all goes well it should come back to life.

That's a relaxing thought!

You can skip step 3 - after reboot phone WILL go thrue download phase - this is how the bootloader is built. Just connect your phone, switch it on and after you PC Odin detected it push START - that`s it!!!

Who said without the battery. Connect the mobile to computer without battery, press and held both the volume rocker and then insert the battery . You will get the downloading mode and odin will detect your phone and then flash.

Im sorry. I dont mean to prove you or anyone wrong. Maybe i just got things wrong...
Step 2 says to remove battery.
Step 3 basically means trying to start the phone into Download Mode.
Step 4 Well, if its only me, i cant imagine Holding Volume Down+Home+Power buttons and manage to insert the battery at the same time.
NOTE: I just asked if something was possible. Not particularly in accordance to your Tut. I just asked a general question. Sorry again if i offended anyone.
EDIT: The main reason was my curiosity, if the phone could work on power from the USB. LoL

i think it powers the phone without the battery through the USB cable from PC. never tried it though but i think it works since the battery charges while plugged in usb cable (this means it has juice).

I think its starting download mode when you put in the battery :S
If you are really that curious as to whether it will enter download mode just on usb power you dont have to wait for your phone to get hard bricked, just try it.

same here bro. i too changed my motherboard from samsung service center
and i dont this one is same as the previous one

unfortunately that doesn't work for me... stupidly enough, I tried to change something in the firmware file (just the logo.png file), and then it got stuck during flashing in Odin. So even more stupidly, I disconnected the phone, and when it didn't turn off I just took out the battery, and since then it behaves as a total brick, and doesn't even show any sign of life when I try to turn it on, or when I try the above mentioned methods (Odin doesn't detect anything).
Any other ideas, or things that I may have done wrong trying to revive it? and do you think that the JIG method could work?
thanks

about the Death screen
this is the answer :
-----
Dear Alzubair ,
Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics.
Reference number:2104286715
Regarding your case, kindly note that the image you have displayed on
the screen of your phone, indicates that the device has entered the

that’s the reason why the Software crashed as well.
In order to get out of the Recovery Mode, please follow the steps below:
Recovery Process

4. Read the caution and check “all information has been verified”
- After this, it’s same with Firmware update Process
5. Click “Next”
- Firmwareversion display
- Firmware file is downloaded to PC
6. Firmware update
- After Firmware downloaded, Click “Next”
- Firmware update start
Caution

I just tried it ( by the Manual way ) and it Works
so this works on the semi-bricked, no 3-button combo enabled phones ??
.. let's say, after a bad/failed bootloader flash ?
someone please confirm ?
later edit:
from what I understand after reading this, Kies can force any (Phone--!--PC) SGS into recovery and/or download mode?
if so, can we "extract" this feature and make it into a stand alone solution for half-bricked phones?
That's not a real black screen, I got one and my phone got the BSOD: No possibility to power on, no charging, nothing.
The "phone ! computer" is just a semi brick, get back to download mode and reflash with odin...
But thanks for the info indeed.

Some SGSs can't access download mode from that screen because of the proper bootloader that's missing. (3 button combo fix needed, not so safe)
wish samsung also adds a feature to kies that fixes the IMEI =D

2day i triad it two times and it works
but from what i understand same thing happened to me today ..
i did the 3 times flashing way :
BE SURE THAT YOU disconnect THE CABLE!!
To do this manually instead of using Kies, please click on the Power
button, the Volume down button and the middle button all together all at
the same time. The phone would flash for 2 times, and on the 3rd time,
please remove your hands fromthe phone, and it should boot up normally.
Then its work and downloading mode appear i installed an official Ver. by odin ( check on Re-Partition ) then it will work (work for me after the same thing that happened : No possibility to power on, no charging, nothing. )
Does this means that the phone has a secondary bootloader or what I dont get it, I already sent my phone to samsung so I cant try, I had my phone bricked stuck at a black screen after the S logo.
hang on... so it sounds like samsung is saying that phones that dont go into download mode straight away from vol-down, home and power need to keep holding the power button until the power cycles 2 times, then let go on the third?
i cant test it now because after i bricked my phone (black screen no power on or charge) i sent it back and i got a new motherboard with 3-button enabled... but this does make sense because when i had a 3-button disabled phone previously i did manage to get it into download mode from the phone-!-computer screen by trying different timings. it took a long time but eventually worked.
so it would seem if this is the case, that it is just a different boot loader and a different key combination to access download mode, but working nevertheless?
can someone test this?
Cant believe it, if the phone does has a secondary bootloader then it cannot be bricked forever.

"all information has bee verified" means put phone in download mode and connect it to PC (can't do it without working 3 buttons combo).
"manually instead of using Kies" = same thing, doesn't work without 3 buttons combo.
This doesn't works if you didn't have 3 buttons combo enabled. I used heat trick instead and then patch aires P-SBL.
I sent my phone back because of this black screen of death. I could get into Download mode, and the other (vol-up) mode too, but no upgrading or changing firmwares worked to fix it. And Kies didn't see it, though Odin eventually did.
Wondering now if the Black Screen of Death was fixable after all, but then would Kies have to recognize it first?
I have a phone ! pc bricked phone right in front of me, I've tried this and a million other combinations, nothing works. I'm not being super pessimistic or anything it really doesn't work. I've left it with a phone repair store overnight and they couldn't fix it either. Im going to visit samsung/optus tomorrow.
edit:
I also want to point out that that message contains some horrible english supposedly from samsung UK

I am exactly in your shoes. Even with the overnight leave at a GSM repair booth-thingy. Im also considering handing it back to the retailer, but havent tried the heating up trick yet... Maybe its worth a try ?

Bricked tab after honeycomb rom instalation

Hi, i got a problem with my 10:1 tab. Today i tried to install honeycomb rom using clockworkmod recovery and after the installation and rooting my tab there was a question should flash boot be fixed because the new one will replace other without going back so new flash and root from honeycomb could take it place and i said no to fixing it, second after my tab went off black and it not reacting to anything including trying to power on and get into recovery mode and i tried to push all the buttons and nothing works. Odin doesnt recognize the tab and if i plug it to charger or pc there is no response. The only thing i realized is i heard a plug in usb sound when i connect tab to pc and try to pull the power on button for like 5 seconds i hear plug in and second later plug out usb sound. What can i do to make it works again? I cannot give it to guaranty and all i can do is by myself
Send it to Samsung for a repair.
i cant, i have no guarantee all i can do is by myself, what can i do?
Did you try to hold power button a little longer ? Like 10 or 30sec. This works for some devices

Pull back cover off (use google to figure out how to do so), unplug battery for a few seconds. Plug battery back in. Press and hold power + vol down to try to get into ODIN.
There is no honeycomb rom for these tabs. What did you try to install? Link me.
Holding power button gives nothing, i tried ever combination for a couple minutes and not working. I tried to remove battery yesterday but it was connected via cables and there was no way to remove it without cutting out cables as far as i seen, if anyone can know how i can remove battery then let mw know because i can't find anything ever the internet. I downloaded HoneyVillain_1.2 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138115. I tried to plug tab to charger today but after 10 hours it didn't worked at all, still got black screen with no reaction to buttons ;/
Hello
bad news - I killed my P5100 2 months ago and I can't repair it. I have same problem - I can hear plug on / plug off sound in Windows. But i have installed drivers and found that this is OMAP4430 device was connected/disconnected each time. And I can't do anything with my Tab.
I have took my Tab to official Samsung service and I've received answer that it is not repairable - only full replacement of internal board possible, and it costs 300$.
And I have tried to unofficial services and they tells me what my problem. Bootloader was corrupted and device can't start. So it is impossible to repair bootloader because it is protected in Galaxy Tab 2 and they proposed me to replace internal flash memory chip.
So I have dead Tab and wait for ability to programmatically repair my Tab
You can see my thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908949, maybe it will be helpful for you

See xda has created separate forums for each phone because you can't use one phones rom for another! Yet you flashed that!
There s nothing you can do other than sending your phone for repair!

No. Its a paper weight now and you could have prevented this by reading.
If you can't get it into Download Mode, then the only options are to send it to Samsung to fix it, or find some loose papers.

I don't know how much support you'll get to follow this method but if nothing else will work it's worth a try.
As far as this tablet being unbrickable, that's only true if you don't intentionally flash something that was made for a completely different tablet...

Alright i had the problem recently and heres what i did to fix it If you can get into download mode ur all good from there. To get into download mode hold the power button and up on the volume rocker, if u get a message saying flashing roms is dangerous blah blah blah then press down on the volume rocker to enter download mode. Odin will recognize it if its in download mode, also what model is ur galaxy tab? Also if its a 10 inch model GT5113 i have the stock rom file for it so i could send it to u
Some helpful Info
Maybe you should have said yes? because after all you can't be too carefull , maybe there was something wrong with the rom. If the system asks you if you want to fix ALWAYS say YES. You should have said yes. Why did you say no ?! all right now to the fixing part. PLEASE NOTE I'M NOT AN EXPERT IN ROOTING BUT I'LL GIVE IT A GO. I think that if you can, then power it up and press the VOLUME UP key while holding the power button. From the menu choose recovery and factory reset your device. If it's possible reset rom to default. It should work if not then Post a reply saying not and I'll see what else can be found. Hold on tight for now! There is a Optional thing you can do if the above doesn't work: that is, if possible, you can un-root your tablet with an app from the market. If all of the above is impossible to do, and you cant even power your tab on, it's as useful as a brick, a black screen. Then I'm afraid it's a hard brick fopr you, boyo.

Sorry for my previous post, didn't read the whole forum! Stupid me! ok now there are only two types of brick. Soft brick and hard brick. Soft brick can be fixed, Hard brick - Not quite. And as you said, you flashed a rom for a different tab, maybe thats a compatibility issue. If you want a new os, honeycomb to be exact. You can always upgrade, just search 'honeycomb upgrade'.

Is it possible to unbrick any device?

I know this is the wrong set of forums altogether, I was hoping somebody here might be able to point me in the right direction or offer advice as the forums related to my device are CRAP!
I purchased a wireless ip camera (tenvis ip602w), I updated to the latest firmware from the tenvis forums, after about 20 minutes the device didn’t come back up, so I cut the power and now it doesn’t work at all. It has power but it is dead. Is there a way to re flash any device over a lan port or force firmware down?
Thanks for your help if any

anyway coming to topic. yes anything is fixable even broken boards if you have proper tools and you know proper technique. you may wish to try the jtag method. if its an omap cpu then its either 14 pin or 20 pin or if you wish you may use a 2 pin tap's icepick.

How to Un-Brick Your Phone
(Method 1)
Ok so you're trying to put this really cool new custom ROM on your phone and then suddenly, your phone won't start up…well my friends, you have got yourself a bricked phone. The thing you worry about the entire time you're rooting, and flashing your phone, has now become reality. Well, fear no more, for I, CTDroidBeast have found a way to unbrick your device!
It's really easy. It's actually easier then rooting your phone, believe it or not.
Ok, you will need a new SD card, because I bet if you use the one out of your device your computer will not be able to read it. But if it does then HEY, you're in luck. You don't have to spend your money on a new SD card.
So let's get started.
Step 1: Turning Off Your Phone
Because you have a bricked phone, you can't just hold the power button. So if your phone is not already off then you're going to want to take out the battery.
Step 2: Preparing Our SD card
Take out your SD card and put it into an SD card reader or some type of other adapter so that we can view it from our computer. If you cannot view the SD card on your computer then you're going to need a new SD card.
Download DREAIMG-RC29.zip and unzip the file.
Reformat the SD card to FAT32 and copy the DREAIMG.nbh onto it.
Safely eject the SD card.
Put the SD card into your device.
Step 3: Wipe The Phone
Hold home and press the power button.
When you see the image of an ! mark, open your keyboard and press Alt + L if you cannot see any command options.
Do a factory reset by pressing Alt + W or just using the trackball.
When the reset is done, go ahead and hold the camera button and select the reboot system now option with your trackball.
Step 4: Flashing The Phone
Once the grey screen pops up (or the white screen if your phone was rooted with JesusFreke) it will ask you to hit a button to start installing the image…press that button. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO STOP THIS PROCCESS. It will take about 8-12 minutes.
When the image has completed the installation (it will say completed), go ahead and press the green, red, and menu buttons at the same time. The phone will reboot.
And your done! Your phone is now unbricked!.
The G1 screen will hang there for a good minute or two, but be paticiant, it will boot. Now you have a choice. Try to hack your phone again, because you're in the correct state to have another go, or, you can stick with the official Android. Now if you choose to stick with the official Android, here's what you do.
Step 1: Upgrading to Android 1.0 RC33
Download the file signed-PLAT-RC33-from-RC30.zip
Rename the file to update.zip and copy it to your SD card
Reboot your phone into recovery mode. Power off the phone first and then hold down the Home key while powering it back on.
The recovery mode is finished loading when you see the ! mark inside the triangle. Press Alt + L to display the list of options.
Press Alt + S to flash the file update.zip.
Wait for the update to apply. Your phone may reboot during this process so be patient.
Press Home + Back if prompted to reboot your phone.
Step 2: Upgrading to Android 1.5 CRB43
Download the file signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.
Step 3: Upgrade to Android 1.5 CRC1
Download the file signed-kila-CRC1-from-CRB43-FIX.7ca4a1d7.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.
Step 4: Upgrade to Android 1.6 DRC83
Download the file signed-kila-DRC83-from-CRC1.c41b93c1.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file. :good::good::good:

(I try to use the flash tool since he doesn't boot, but the stock room don't have any scatterd file...)

Thanks for the tip, but I really think I hard brick my phone, he just vibrate when the battery is on, when I try to turn him on just with the charger I get no response, my computer cannot ever reconize him. An since it's a national model there isn't much support for it on the internet (now I do regret getting him). I opened him to try force the reconization, but I don't find the force preloader mode test point and there is no way I can get a JTAG on Brazil.
TWRP Recovery Mode f*** me really hard this time.
Now if someone could help me finding the colo/kolo/whatever point on my phone I would really appreciated.

Am not much sure if ti is hard bricked since you sayed that it vibrates lets look how much characteristics of a bricked device of which it posseses so as to conmfirm that it is hard bricked.
Soft Brick - Struck inBoot loop
2. Super Brick - Stuck atflashing Factoryfs.IMG in ODIN . Also called as EMMC Bug
3. Hard Brick -Dead / Costly Paper weights
4. Dead Brick - No chargingbattery sign also - Mostly = Hard Brick; But there is a window of possibilityby a USB JIG for SamsungPhones.
5. OTA Brick - Encountereddue to updating OTA on a rooted Stock ROM
6. CM12 Brick - when CM12encountered a /data write error. Worst is ODIN Flashing Fails
7. Pixel Salad: This is a problemof the graphics unit or the screen which fails to display correctly the imageand put instead random colored pixels on some areas of the screen or the wholescreen. It’s hard to even let the other members know what you are facing sinceyour screenshots would be just clean as it would have been. This also requiresa need for hardware checking if reflashing ROM doesn't work.
Soft brick means a temporary problem, which could be fixed. Soft brick usuallyoccurs after installing custom rom(s) or incorrect installation procedure whichinstallation/manipulation of files like permission settings, erasing systemfiles that is not compatible with each phone.
SOFT BRICKED
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS TO MENTION FEW ARE
Phone struck on OEM logo.
Phone struck on a ROM logo "bootanimation"
The phone does not simply power up
or any other you can add up
HARD BRICKED
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS TO MENTION FEW ARE
· No signs that can turn on directly
· The Charging won't work.
· Phone not detected when connected to a PC
· The LED's do not light up immediately
· No Sound / Vibrate
· Your phone completely off (Paper Weight)
Simply put it cannot be repaired using SEUS, FLASHTOOL, ODIN or even PC COMPANION.

Even if it's not hard bricked I had no idea on how bring him into life again, since the only signal of life he gives me is the vibration with the battery on.
It could make my computer detect him it would be much easier.

this may sound dumb but maybe your screen is broke i highly doubt it because of what happened but if you can feel the vibrations but not see the screen then maybe its the screen. There will probably be a way to fix it but im unsure. Its funny how you call your phone him

Ow, one year latter I don't think this will help you anymore, but just in case someone has the same question: I didn't solve the problem, I took it to the Samsung assistence and discover that the motherboard was damaged, they would have to replace it.

Stuck in a boot loop, and i cant enter recovery or download mode to fix it :(

My note 3 n9005 international model is stuck in a loop trying to go into recovery mode every time.
The sequence goes as such:
- The phone vibrates and the screen shows a glimmer in the bottom of the screen, it goes away in a split sec.
- The phone proceeds to vibrate once again and after 2-3 seconds the phone boots up with the note 3 and such stuff.
- Up in the left hand corner it says: RECOVERY BOOTING. .... (dark blue text). Next line is: RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING (red text). Next line is: Set Warranty Bit: recovery (yellow text)
- The phone then turns off and wait for around 9-10 seconds and then the three steps above go into repeat again and again.
The only thing that stops this is pulling out the battery which i have done several times now ...
I have tried the two "Famous" key combinations AKA. Home + Power + Volume up or Volume down
but none of them seem to have any effect .. only thing that happens is that the "3-step process mentioned" now has a delay of about 15 seconds to continue instead of waiting only 10 seconds which i presume means that it turned off at some point really quick and then turned back on to begin the loop again.
Now for the cause of this mayhem:
I was trying to install a custom rom(Darklord Note 5 rom that converts your note 3 into a note 5 software) in which a Aroma installer was involved, but my TWRP recovery went into a freeze once it was trying to open up the aroma installer, i got out of this situation fairly easy by pressing the Home + Power button to turn it off and then proceeded to go into recovery and then reboot which went smoothly. But i really needed to change into this other rom since my current rom is terribly slow(CM 12.1). SO, i went around the net and found out that the aroma installer freezing was a common problem for certain versions of TWRP.
So i tried installing an earlier version (2.6.70 i believe) on top of the other one using an app called "flashify" .. which i believe is the source of this problem since it probably couldn't overwrite my current version of TWRP. And as such im now stuck in this devilish loop which is a pain in the arse.
P.S Overwriting from Clockword mod recovery 3.X to TWRP 3.X went smootly and there were no issues there .. so i guess the downgrading of the TWRP is the problem ??
I hope this is not such a seldom occurrence that you have no experience in which you can help me :-/
Please help me with this !
It might not be the only solution but when I've previously got the boot loops I've had to reinstall a stock rom from Sammobile and then root again and reinstall TWRP and then reinstall my chosen ROM using TWRP. You might loose data if you did not Nandroid backup
I can't do any of those things

Hi, it seems i haven't made myself clear enough ... i've tried the 2 key combinations as mentioned in the post .. but none of them have any special effect .. i have no way to boot into recovery mode or download mode.
So without download mode i have no way of using ODIN to reinstall stock firmware .. i am aware of how to use ODIN so if the download mode worked this whole thing would not be an issue for me since i could just do what you said in your reply.
But the problem is that it doesn't work ... so i dont know how to get into the phone and do stuff to fix it.
Also, i dont care about data such as photos and stuff ... the only thing i care about is my phone getting fixed!
Hope you can help or maybe someone you know for me

Hmm, in the case of an hard brick .. what so you suggest i do ?
Do i go to the store to get it fixed. (my warranty actually expired 1 month ago) and in the case of needing such a fix .. how much do you think it would cost ?
Or do i wait for a solution from some guy on this page ?

First I would Google a solution, second I would wait about a week, who knows there might be a guy here who knows how to fix it, third of all and the end of all choices is to get it to a store, idk it might cost you at around 50-60 dollars. I once hardbricked my LG and they charged me 50 dollars. Let's hope your issues gets fixed without losing a lot of money.

" Hard-bricked – it refers to the phone as totally jammed, unresponsive or no visible signs of starting to work as it suppose to be. No display at all. You can’t even access the Download Mode screen. The only resolution for this is by using the method called JTAG flashing, which is you are forcing to install the firmware back to the phone. The process that you are about to experience is not too easy; this includes disassembling the phone, some soldering job required and flashing by means of using a flashing device tool.
– This method means that you cannot save your device at all by yourself anymore. If you considered necessary to have your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 back to life, the best way for you to do is to bring the device back to your dealer. Explain impressive that might persuade them to have your Galaxy Note repair for free of charge or have an exchange for warranty. "
The process explained afterwards involves "download mode" which i can't access ... so yeah .. guess il'l wait for a bit for a response that might help me .. otherwise ... il'l just take it to the store i guess !
also .. what do you think about this part: " bring the device back to your dealer. Explain impressive that might persuade them to have your Galaxy Note repair for free of charge or have an exchange for warranty" ?
do you think it means explaining it to the dealer in detail what has happened .. or does it perhaps mean to act like a total fool and be like ; " umm .. is this supposed to be like this ?"
Hope you understood that one better than i, cause if i can get a free fix il'l be real happy !

It seems like we'll have to go with MIGHT since i just idetified it as being a stage 2 hard brick, i must have fiddled with it a little too much ... Hmm, the phone was getting old anyways and performance was faltering by the minute too. So i guess il'l check it out at the store if they can repair it for something like 50$ - 100$ .. otherwise, i guess il'l get myself a ****ty phone for now and wait for a new flagship smartphone to appear !
I was thinking about going for LG G5 .. good idea ? or do you have another suggestion

Do you suggest buying one or making one myself (i found some guides about it ) .. which one do you think would perform best ? (assuming i make mine correctly)
Whether you make or buy doesn't matter as long as it does the job. I will say that a pre made jig is small and neat.
