Rooted gingerbread keeps trying to download verizon update - Droid X General

Hey all,
I looked through the posts and wasn't able to find the answer so I am leaving this. Basically I upgraded my X from a rooted froyo to GB using the 2 files provided by P3Droid to go from the SBF froyo to GB rooted. It works great and I am having no freezing issues however the phone keeps trying to update and download the GB over the air update. I don't know how to stop this from happening or if I did something wrong. I have deleted a few of the Verizon apps that should stop any update from taking place anyway. I thank you in advance for your help.

I downloaded the "rooted gingerbread .596" from p3droid and my Droid X has never asked to update.

the only other thing I can think of is that I accidentally hit check for update on my phone but I don't think that it should have even found the gingerbread once I had installed it myself...

I just went into my settings and into "about phone". I also checked for a update and it says that it is up to date no update is necessary. So I have no idea what is going on. Only thing I can suggest is if it continues, is to SBF back to Froyo and reinstall p3Droid's rooted .596 again. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

You could let the update happen, it would go partially, fail and reboot and you're all set

Same problem with Sprint EVO 4g
I have also just installed "4.22.651.2 Rooted & De-Odexed" after accidentally dl the OTA update last week. I just hoped that installing the new ROM would eliminate the notifications to install the update but unfortunately it did not.
I did try to let it install so as to let it fail and rebooted, and the notification is still there.
Is there maybe a way to manually remove the update file?

this is the Droid X sub-forum. You will get the proper help if you post in the Evo section.

Sorry I just didn't find anything even closely related to this issue here and thought it would be best to not start a new thread. Isn't this a software issue and therefore somewhat universal?

here a link to the thread for your 4.22.651.2 Rooted & De-Odexed rom in the EVO section... and there's discussion in there about your exact problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110733

Thank you very much!

I'm having the same problem. It comes and goes with no ability to clear. It always pops up after a reboot. It never actually downloads, at least that I've seen....
Does anyone know which package to freeze so the updater stops flagging?

Stop OTA Updates
Freeze the application called "Updater 2.3.3".

Anybody without a corp account try flashing this yet?
i flashed it today and I do NOT have the CorpEmail account. I really hope this doesn't stop me from getting root.

i have, no differences at all. battery life will tell in a day or two
So are we safe letting update go thru? Or should we hold off if we want root?
I wouldn't flash it yet. It contains a recovery image and I don't know if anyone knows for certain what's different about the image.
Would this have the correct test keys?
I flashed. Not noticing anything unexpected. Im getting my incredible replaced anyway. Sounds like I'm listening to people talk underwater.
I doubt you'd notice anything different; I'm just afraid that they've closed a useful hole.
Now if this thing would just stop asking me every 20-30 minutes ... grrrr.
The update fixes the email client for business users.
The meat of the update they don't tell you about, however, is there is a new recovery image in the updater. So yeah, maybe a hole was closed.
I held down volume down button and hit power, booted into the prompt, selected "recovery mode," and all I got was a red triangle and exclamation point.
I downloaded the zip, renamed it update.zip, and put it on /sdcard using Astro.
Am I doing something wrong?
I have the exact same problem.
dont do it
Just checking to see if people successfully installed this OTA update from the mirror site link provided earlier in this thread. I think it's my only chance to go to FroYo without using RUU/wiping the phone.
I figure I can update from 1.22.605.0 with this update and then go to the FroYo thread and run that update. Does that sound like it will work?
This whole subject was coverd in another thread.

read the other thread, you need to update to 1.22.605.2 first, easy and does not lose date.
Root and OTA
I have rooted with unrevoked 3.1 but still have stock 2.1. Do I need to unroot to install the OTA or will the OTA still be pushed to my phone while I am still rooted?

A Second Update This Morning (6/28)?

OK, this is a little weird. I did the OTA update this morning and all was fine, but then just for grins, I did a manual check for updates again and goit new download!! This one is named OTA_Supersonic_1.47.651.1-1.32.651.6_releaseq2wpcb5jl7uowah9.zip. What the heck is this one? I will go ahead and install and see what happens.
Edit: maybe it just downloaded the same update again...not sure....but it's asking if I want to install it. Should I and/or shouldn't the phone know if the update has already been applied and not ask this again?
if you can get them both on your computer run a md5 sum against the files.

The first OTA was removed after it installed (I think because I cant find it) and the one mentioned above has also disappeared after downloading but before I installed it). If anyone knows where these zip files are saved, let me know and I'll take a look.
did someone wake-and-bake this morning?
Update help
I have a rooted phone. The update downloads then when installing it starts to install, but stops and I get the screen with the red question mark. The phone then reboots and when I go check for the update its as if I never downloaded it.
Anyone have any thoughts?
DO NOT install the 2nd update. there are reposrts of users (on Android Forums) bricking their EVOs on the second update. just and FYI
Yeah some are saying it may brick your phone ... after updating and checking for a new update it states there is one.
Don't really have the time to try and see ... or else I wouldn't anyways ...

Epic 4g - prl & firmware not updating after rooting

i need some help. After rooting (1click root) everything worked just fine, removed those bloatware and feels awesome. But i think i removed the OTA.apk too.
Since then, i cant update the PRL and FIRMEWARE. It hangs for few minutes & times out, giving me force close.
SO my question is, is there a workaround for PRL & FIRMWARE update to work?
Or, can someone explain how to put back the OTA apk back to phone?
Sry, im still a noob
appreciate you all!

If you accidentally removed a file you can reinstall the stock ROM. For example you can look here.
If you follow those instructions you'll have a rooted froyo epic. Or you can look here for instructions for get your phone to what I think is one of the most recent Android 2.1 ROMs.
Good luck!

Lost 1.141 Update

Hey folks,
maybe someone can help me.
In the morning on my A500 appeared an update available message. I tried to install it, but it failed in the middle. So I got a brick, which I solved with the chinese update. Afterwards I pushed my saved system.img.
BUT: Now the Build Number says Acer_A500_1.112. instead of Acer_A500_1.112.01_EMEA_CUS7
I checked the build.prop but there the correct build number is written.
Also another check of update gimme the message, that my system is up-to-date.
Is anyone able to provide help, like EMEA flexrom.img, boot.img, or some useful advises?
There is a EMEA signed update.zip floating around. Try to restore with that one and see what happens.
I got the same "Update" message (34MB?). I don't know if it was because mine was already rooted. D/L and updated, in the middle the dreadful Triangle with the exclamation mark pops up. Bricked! Did a reboot and try to reapply the update again..Bricked again.
Is this because I'd rooted the tablet?
gotta push flexrom
You gotta push your flexrom image onto the tablet too then "FACTORY RESET". The flexrom (mmcblk0p6) has the information of the update... that is where you are getting the difference from (if i am not mistaken)...
Try that and see if it helps ... I believe it should... jejeje

I have not messed or removed anything, was rooted, root-explorer/titanium loaded and updated without issue.
reran gingerbreak afterwords and all is well....
Have never seen any OTA update in Australia :|
Wish I knew what was inside this update... media player still only sees mp4, mp3... email doesn't allow exchange... I wonder how many updates we will have to wait for to get a few of the things I want?... I didn't root so that I could load updates easily but if I have to try to fix this thing up the way I did my epic then I guess I will...shame they couldn't put divx, wmv, and some other poplar codecs in this... don't they realize some of us bought this to work with too? If exchange was added I would be sorta happy... (I love my A500 short of a couple things)
ive read the update fixes the issue with the PHONE DRAIN... but that is all, there are no other changes that I know of... jejeje

Typically I ignore posts that seem to just be complaining, but you seem real torn up about this so... go to settings, accounts, add your exchange account and be happy.
Another thing that can cause the update to hang would be any edits to your build.prop (ie. Netflix early fixes, etc). Changing back to the original resolved the triangular fail icon for me and completed the update with root still installed, gingerbreak did have to be I installed again but root is still attainable.

Alright in my case I uninstalled some of the crapware that was on the tablet but then I try to apply the update and get the exclamation. Im assuming it cant update because of the missing apps.

You are correct, there is a thread in the general fourm with a link to all the apk's that came stock on the system.
I can't post links yet, but either thread about the OTA update you will find your required apk's.

I was having all kinds of problems not getting the update to run and kept Triangle halt..
I resolved it by the following:
you dont need to do anything with Gingerbreak, its ok. The problem is for those that changed any system files. In my case, i wanted exchange, so i was using a different email.apk, well as learned from another thread here, if you look in Cache/recovery/logs, you will see a file where you can see where the update went wrong. Like i said, in my case, i saw the file size was not what was expected for email.apk. I removed the exchange account, used rootexp and renamed email.apk.old (the original) to email.apk and the obex file then the update worked correctly.
I was going crazy as i was messing with this instead of watching my heat vs the bulls 1st half.

look at your /Cache/recovery/logs for an error and post results
I had to try about 7-8 times looking in the recovery log after each time to see what .apk that i forgot that I had deleted, then put it back and try again. I finally was successful and haven't seen much difference other than no random wake ups. Maybe a little snappier.
I had mine hang in recovery every unsuccessful update which is NOT THE SAME AS BRICKING.

Help! My phone is stuck

So my phone was on .91, rooted, and today i just unlocked the bootloader (with this script http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871). But now after it boots it wants me to enter my blur accont and as soon as i hit next, it wasnts to do the update to .141. I can copy the update but when i hit install later it kicks me back a screen and i have to do it all over again. Is there anything i can do to fix my phone. It is basically unusable
I'm not sure why a new thread, I think you could've just continued in the thread you already opened...
I assume you tried this already?
http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/1027994/
Thank you very much! I was searching for a way to stop the ota, not blur and sorry for opening a new thread, i wasnt sure if anyone would check it again
You definitely should not have started a second thread asking the same question, and questions go in the Q&A section.
What do you want to do now that you are rooted and booted? Stay on GB 4.5.91? Flash a custom ROM?

Yes i understand this now.
So far I've decided to stay with the stock 4.5.91 (for now) but i added faux's 1.3 Ghz kernel. It seems to be running much faster than before. Although I realized that there's now a bunch of apps I downloaded from play that are no longer available for my phone. What would cause this issue?
To stay with stock you have two choices I can think of:
First, flash a 4.5.141 fruitcake.
Second, find a way to disable updates. You could edit /system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.service.blur/defaults.xml to a server that is inactive or doesn't exist. That will prevent your os from finding updates.
Maybe someone else knows another way to disable updates.

I was able to disable the updates by renaming blurupdater.odex and blurupdater.apk to a .bak.
What exactly is fruitcake, just a modified update that you can put on your phone with rom manager? (Sorry I haven't been able to find out too much about it)
