[Q] Flowless ROM for HD games ? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
I have a HD2 EU version 512.
I try many versions and also create an EXT partision on my SD card.
But none of those versions can run a HD game without any lag. Also fruit ninja has lags.
I have an approximative Quadrant score of 1400 - 1600, but I think it doesn't change anythings.
I used Chainfire 3D to reduce the quality, but steal lags appears.
I don't understand why, because HD2 has very good hardware.
A friend of mine has a galaxy S doesn't have any problem running all those games.
Do you have any ROMs recommendation?
Thank you for your help

Hadn't any issues with gameloft games so far.
Got dungeon hunter 2, sacred odyseey and shadow guardian...other games like fruit ninja works also fine.
rom is in my signature...but don't think that any current nand rom got any problems with games.
Are you on a nand rom, or on a sd rom? Read some time ago, that s.o. else got problems with a sd build and games...after using a nand build everthing was fine.
Could also be, that your sd card is to slow..

Thanks for the answer.
Yes I'm on nand rom since January but I always had lag problems.
My SD card is the one sold with the phone.
Is it a good one?
I already try CyanogenMod, But I don't really like the interface I prefer HTC sense.
Is there any ROM specially with good gaming performance on HTC sense?

Test your sd writing/reading speed with this tool.
You should also read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010767

Well I've many HD games and none run slow at all. No CHAINFIRE drivers or anything (I thought chainfire was just to let SGS2 play tegra games? maybe im wrong lol) and fruit ninja should not be running slow. Hmmmm dunno if I would say the sense rom is THE problem, but in the past sense roms have ALWAYS been slower for me

Thanks again
I try your software.
And the result was: 8.3 write speed and 7.7 read speed.
I think this might be a reading problem don't you think?
It there a way to solve this problem?

yeah, seems ab bit very slow.
got a class 6 with 27mb reading speed.
you can try to format your sd card with:
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/
Dont forget to backup your data

Hi, thx for the answer.
I went to the link you gave me and change the cluster size of my sd.
I'm now at maximum 14mb reading speed. But I think it still not enought.
I have a class 4 sd, can it be more efficient than 14mb?
If I use you sd formatter, will it also delete my EXT partition?
Thanks

Mhh, 14 mb is much better than 7
Do you mean cache or cluster size?
Yeah, formatting it will kill your sd ext.

Hey,
Yes my mistake, it is the cache size, I set it to 2048 KB.
But still with 14mb reading speed, even fruit ninja wont run smoothly.

mhh, you could try, if it's really related to your sd card, but therefore you have to install the game to your phone.
try boot your phone without sd card and then install it on your phone memory.

It seems that I can't run the OS without the SD card.
I'm on the ROM : imilka's RAM Desire HD v2.0
I chose this one because it has good result on quadrant and says that it's a speed rom with the HTC sense.

then make a cwm backup, backup your sd, format it and test it again: formatting will delete you sd ext and ensures that you install e.g. Fruit to phone mem and not sd.
if it runs fine on phone mem you should change your sd, if not you should try another rom.
After testing you can create the sd ext again and restore the data with the cwm backup.

Honestly, if you want speed for os and games, Sense should be out of question. Stocl/CM is the way to go, you'll never find faster. It's a question of choice...

I installed your Cyanogen ROM, but I know know why I didn't like those ROm.
Because it's full if bug lol. The most important feature, which is calling doesn't work properly !
I think I will buy a Class 10 micro SD then this should works with any rom.
I hope !!

no matter what sdcard you buy it will not work. The only way is to install a nonsense rom.Try BOYPPC SHIFTPDA sense s rom from 16june ,then flash rafpigna's kernel, overclock at 1227(stable and fast) and run any game you want smoothly wih no lags.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

Thx spookhc, but I not confident using an overclock kernel.
Also it will be using more battery, isn't it?
I'm downloading the rom, and try it.
But I can't find the kernel your talking about.
Is that this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940823&highlight=rafpigna%27s+kernel
If yes, should i take the 1,9 OC or 1.9 OC GB
But is that good to overclock the proc to 1,5ghz???

How do I apply overclock setting??

Nand and internal storage space

I love the new Nand builds of Android,I have finally settled on MDJ_FroYo_Revolution_v._2.0_NAND version which I am very happy with at the moment. My only problem I have, like many others,is storage space for apps.I think there is only about 48/50mb fre after a clean install.I think I was spoilt after coming from SD install where we had massive storage,I realise I dont need GB's of storage but i do need more as I have installed a few apps and I am down to about 4mb left.I am using app2sd as well.
Is there anyway I can create storage space on my European version?
Thanks
You should install apps2sd and install your apps to your sd card
you get it wrong tigermaster... WITH app2sd and moving apps to sd we got this prob
app2sd is still leaving data in your ram when you move something. and this little data is enough for being a prob when you dont have enough memory
I had the exact same problem. The only real soultion is to install a build that doesn't have Sense, like a Nexus build.

ahhh is that the issue? I was going to say MDJ Gingerbread on mine and I currently have 807mb internal storage w/a healthy app list but no HTC Sense.

You guys won't have the problem with TMOUS versions, so it doesn't apply.

I think a NAND kitchen (is there such a thing?) would help a lot, and of course, barebone android would also help. Can anyone verify if this is possible? And what's the smallest android ROM out there?? I think it would help a lot of chefs could list how much free space is left.
+1 I am also looking for a bare bones Android ROM I can work from, hopefully a few fully working gingerNANDs will be around soon.

[Q] Possible to self-port the HD2 Android SD Builds for NAND?

I love the wonderfulness (as in the roms meant for the SD are way better than those for NAND, as I've observed) of the SD builds. But I want them in my phone as NAND, not on SD. SD versions always freezes on my phone, and are very slow compared to those on NAND. So... Is there any way for me to port them to NAND? I do have a little bit of experience cooking my own ROMS... And tweaking them to my liking...
Don't know if its possible, but I was having a few lags in my SD builds and I found that my problem was the SD card.. the performance of the SD should be the same as in nand, the only difference is that you should have a better battery life in nand.. you can test your SD card with a program called crystalmark , you need a card with good random read and write..

Hmm... Problem is... I kinda don't have the luxury of buying a faster SD card... Need all the money I can to fund my videography/photography hobby... But I do have the time to port the ROMs to NAND if I have the method...
Try packing the rom files into a CWM file instead of current file format, install it, flash a NAND kernel, like TyTungs then see what happens

Hi
which version of HD2? 512eu or t-mous?
Perhaps the recovery partition you used is uncorrect...
I am using EU hd2. I'm currently using cyanogenmod 7 which works fine

ok, I think you used uncorrect recovery...
You have to download cwr 3.02.4, and modify flash.cfg. I wrote a little guide yesterday, you can find t here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256610
post no. 8, it helped the user, I hope can help you too. This post referred to a tmous hd2, but it's the same thing for eu version. The only difference is the partition... You have to modify it like that:
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery-raw.img
boot yboot|ro 5M
system ya 195M
cache ya 5M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
Then, if you don't have, you have to do ext partition on sd card...
If I helped you please click thanks button, otherwise please ask me here and I'll try to explain better...
Ok I will give this a try and let you know.
Just a quick question,if I follow your instructions will I still be able to load cm7 back to my hd2or will I have to follow another set of instructions to get back to cm7

yes sure... It's necessary for apps2sdgui...
This is what you have to do:
1. format your sd card (fat32)
2. go to cwr
3. choose ad recovery
4.choose advanced
5.choose partition s. you can choose the size as you prefer, it depends on the capacity of your sd, but it can be max 2gb... swap must be 0.
6. done

this procedure will erase your sd,so make a backup:
in mgldr-ad recovery-advanced-partition sd card-1024 (or 2048)-0
so you'll have 1gb or 2gb sd-ext3 partition with 0 swap size

i made a mistake
gps does work on other roms i tried (aokp 4.0.4 asis by ??? (dev swift), swiftdroid 2.0 asis by mur4ik), but bluetooth calls NEVER worked. the other person on phone hears me, but i hear nothing (as i said: music works) this is not a problem of the headset, because it works well on my laptop and other phones.
will give the other roms a try, a little bit sad, the openswift was the best rom i ever tried but i need GPS!
never had a so fast rom and so much space for system and ram
maybe it depends on my swap? never had it till this rom
a question about swap: more = better? have 1gb swap now (highest in recovery i think)
do i have to make a new swap when i change rom?

Swap is like virtual ram it push proceses that you dont use on swap part and frees up the ram
1 gb is more than enough

1 GB is wasting SD memory
i an currently using 64 MB because my system usually needs around 20-40 MB Swap
only games like GTA 3 need so much memory, but you won't be albe to play these games smooth.
many people complain about BT headsets, most ROMs have problems. you should try some older releases, some of them have it working
(i think about SDSL 1.1 , maybe it'll work)
http://depositfiles.com/files/kf1ehfxkm (SDSL 1.1)
if it doesn't work try some other ROMs (maybe devswift's oxygen, some froyo ROMs etc. )
good luck

Got NexusHD2on right now, but in freezes often despite I used new SD card (http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/extremepro-uhs-i/?capacity=8GB). Don't know if im doing something wrong...

I've had it on NAND some time ago. Installed it on SD-Ext yesterday and I've same freezes as in the other NativeSD ROMs. When I'm playing a game of just doing something (like YouTube or Facebook) it freezes and there's only one option to get it back (reset).
Can I speak with somebody about the NativeSD method and the procedures I'm performing during installation of NativeSD ROM ? I think I'm doing everything good and it's always the same (freezes).

I have a 32GB (http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-class10-for-android/?capacity=32GB), a little slower than yours.
I got "error 10 I/O..." for my native SD install (CMight http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912740) some times or some apps get FC. Same behaviour with Nexus JB (tytung) ROM.
Never had this issue before with (same roms) Nand installations and data-on-ext4 with a Sandisk 16GB class4. I suspect HD2 doesn´t handle fast cards very well..

You could try JellyTime. It is very slim.
