[Q] how to reset Ideos x5 u8800 with unresponsive 1/3 of touch screen ? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

My Ideos x5 u8800 souch screen is not responding on the right third handside of the screen.
The retailer has ask me to try a Factory Reset.
However I can not get past the unlock screen to the menu option because of the touch screen problem.
Is there a way around this please to do a reset ?

Power off phone, hold vol up and power at same time and it should boot to recovery. From there u should be able to make the reset.

I have the same problem, like 1/4 of the screen does not work on my touches.
I have tried resetting it many times, but no result.

Looks like it is a hardware issue.

hey guys,
since yeterday my touchscren is unresponsive, too!
what did you ti fix this?
i dont want to restet it, i just wanna use it as normal :/

Bought mine from **** Smith in Melbourne, same problem, took it back for repair, waited 5 weeks for response and then DEMANDED LOUDLY in store for a replacement.
Guess what? They gave me a new one.
Try that!

Do Hardreset your u8800 - 1, pres vol up + power until start up the phone then relase the power boton, wait a bit then folow the instruction of screan ,it will be Done .

You should do what caulfieldman did and return it to the shop where you bought it from; yesterday if possible. Don't bother with the support procedure, just visit the shop, demonstrate the problem to the employee and demand that it's replaced, under warranty.
Even if a factory reset fixes the issue, it sounds more like a hardware issue which should warrant a replacement anyway.

MDA compact II does not turn on

Just as in the subject! I tried everything: soft, hard reset, removing batery, removing simcard, waiting for upto 20 mins staring at t-mobile screen. Nothing seems to work. I can see t-mobile white starting screen withIPL,SPL,GSM,OS versions and that is it. If I am lucky - waiting cursor appears.
This is the second time it happened, previousely I managed to turn it on after 30 mins of struggle. Not this time though.
I am affraid that if I - hopefully - turn it on this time and the battery runs out of power I will be left without a handset!
Absolutely no damage, no dropping, virtually new. Any ideas?
You said you tried hardreset? So, you actually sees the screen that said, "to restore to factory setting press Send", then it said formatting ROM etc.., right? If after hardreset you still have the problem, I would suggest that you send your handset back to them to have it fix. Where are you now? (better if you would have your country and network operator logo set for this forum, so that people can advise you based on your location/operator)
I had my MDA Compact 2, which works for 2 weeks before the speaker died off. Then, after I sent to them to fix, they've got the speaker done, but the entire unit now works .. weirdly. Thats is whenever I had the speaker on, the entire unit will heat up so much that, the battery meter will go down-stream even I have the AC power attached (good for a hand warmer though). Anyway, I sent the thing back to them, and they sent it back to me, with the note "change of the circuit board" (something like that), which I think it is a serious problem that I don't think anyone can fix. Good thing is that my unit is still under warranty, costed me a GBP10 for the postage, but I'm happy that I have it working in full order now.
I wonder if your problems are similar to mine.

This means that I did not try hard reset then. Holding the power button+stylus reset does nothing more than soft reset. It just goes dark and reboots.
I am in UK on T-Mobile. I think I will go to the shop I bought it in and demand replacement. Pity I loose all data... But I would do hardresetting anyway...

According to the manual: hold power and tap reset with a stylus! Page 79, "To perform a hard reset". Do they know what they sell?
Anyway, thanks! It worked, it did start now. I will check everything now.

Apparently not, that part is for the original MDA Compact on WM2003SE.

Screen stays black

I have a very annoying problem with my touch HD. Sometimes the screen doesn't return on after pressing the standby button. So the screen stays off but I can press the buttons such as "home" or "back" getting a vibrate feedback that shows, that the device is still on and only the screen is off. I made a hardware reset and have still the original HTC german ROM in latest version installed. The screen turns only on, if i wait a time like 5 to 10 minutes. Repeated pressing the standby button, also uncaseing the battery, doesn't have an effect on that problem.
Hi,
If the problem persists after a Hard Reset then it sounds like a hardware-problem to me If I were you I'd take the phone back and get it replaced or repaired
Regards,
Rolf
Hello,
I had the same problem after installing a third part app (pbar 1.5).
Check if you are installing some soft. after the hard reset...
some of the touch-lock software out there can also cause your behaviour, but as you did a hard reset on a standard rom I'd have to agree it's probably a hardware problem
Sorry guys, you are probably vitctim of the MicropERROR syndrom, screen stay black especially after hard use (max blacklight, wifi, internet surf...).
I had the same problem, hard reset hasn't changed anything, my phone is at the repair center of HTC...
x3n0n this is exactly my problem, thanks....
So I have to send in my touch HD
My HTC us back from repair center !!
Diagnostiqued defaults :
- No init
- Headseat plug default
- Estetic default
Hardware changed :
- Mother Board
- Violation Sticker
- System cable (means cable like IDE cable, but don't know the traduction).
Sent 30th December, received today.
thanks x3n0n
How long did it take (send in and get back) ?
Just written in my post, Sent 30th December, received today (9th January), 10 days, but repairation was already done the 6th january.

htc hd is not opening

When I using IGO8, its sudenly freeze and I made soft reset. And its turned off and after push again power button and turned on after a 2 minutes its turned off again and no more open. it has %80 batarry life and when I connect again to adaptor but no charging no red light.
I went to phone fixer last day and he said its main software is down and we must connect a jet..... like hardware and he wants 700$.
its not acceptable price.
in my country this kind of devices so experience and I bought this device from germany and I changed rom and no more warranty.
I want to ask you who knows jet...... like device to rescue touch hd or any solution to fix it. I think this is not board problem just software failure but I tried to make hard reset, soft reset, batarry change but no one is not open my device again.
Did you try a hard reset?
I have the same problem
hey redoxian, i have the same problem as you, but it is not about IGO8 or any other problem, my device went crazy after 100% battery charge to 57% after a freez then got dead after then, no battery change or hard, soft reset appeared to be effective in my case, and its german by the way. I have just delivered my device to the maintenance office dedicated for htc devices and i haven't yet recieved any report, promised if i reached any thing i will tell unless u have any news about this issue.

Did you hard reset as Harmageddon suggested. Does problem still occur? Have you read/searched or asked this question in iGo8 thread?

How do you mean hard reset not functioning at all. You have 2 methods of hard resetting:
1.
Turn off device, then hold both vol up & down and turn on device. You should be presented with a white screen and blue text. Press vol up to hard reset.
or
2.
Go to Start > settings > system > clear storage

HD2 touch screen doesn't work

Hi guys,
This evening something wring happened with my HD2. Suddenly without any visible reasons touch screen stopped working. Actualy screen itself is working but it doesn't react on any touches. I did hard reset - no luck, screen is working but touch surface isn't, so basically my phone is almost dead :-(
Have you seen this behaviour ? Is there any possible way to fix it ? The only thing that comes in my mind which could cause something like this is static electricity shock, but if it kills HD2 screen I want my money back.
I guess now I should use warranty and this is just after 1 month of usage....
Just a stupd question
Don't be offended by my question, I just want to rule out the obvious.
You're not wearing gloves due to the cold outside?
Greetings
chuelibrueder
No, I'm not using gloves with HD2 :-(
I have the same problem. I believe that the connectors under the screen became loose.
I have send an email to htc and they told me to contact the retailer to check if they can replace the device and if not to contact the service center in Cyprus.
There is another thread about this issue here
i`m sure that warranty will solve it.. just contact your retailer.. good luck
Hmmm,
Yet another one having to go back due to hardware problems....
WB
I loose the touch screen today and the hardware button exept Home i think, i had to remove the battery and i waited 30s put it back and everything went in place, the phone had called one contact when i had the bug.
The only thing that happened before screen doesn't work and buttons : i received an MMS strange, i'm not sure i can rely on my phone
I only installed the 1.48 rom and the 3 patches (audio, sms and sd card)

I contacted the service center in Cyprus and they offered to repair it but they don't have spare parts right now. I've also send an email to the retailer and wait for their answer.
Seems i have to wait after Christmas for a repair or exchange.
The good thing is that by pressing the screen with my palm or giving it a few solid taps it works for some time.
bBeware keyboard layout!
I had suffer bye used hadwritting layout sometime it cause screen doesn't responds
try change keyboard layout not hadwritting
Just had the same thing happen with mine, powers up but the screen wont respond anywhere i press. I have tried hard reset AND soft reset, nothing!
Have just restored factory ROM, and deleted hspdl and dropped off at vodaphone in town. Im gutted!!
really seems to be a production problem: i had to send my hd2 back to htc for screen replacement just 4 weeks ago... same fault as yours: the touchscreen wasn't responding to input anymore!
the last weeks i noticed that many people had this problem too...
wow.. keeping a close eye on this.. guess the same problem from the HD is creeping up to the HD2..
Well im hoping vodaphone dont turn around and say its not covered under warranty etc, I had to [like most ppl] sign up for two years to get this phone, i aint gonna be to happy if i have to spend the next 21 months of my contract without the handset i wanted!
Yikes , yesterday my screen didn't respond either (for the first time). Soft reset didn't work. After taking the battery out and leave it out for > minute it still didn't respond. I pressed the screen a little and then it worked again. Not sure if it was because of pressing the screen, but it did look that way. I hope this will be the last time this happens!
tnx!

Well, it's been a few weeks now and I've had this problem several times again and worse, even after a hard reset; and almost each time I could fix it by pressing the screen/hardware buttons, but that shouldn't be the way, because I don't think it's good for the hardware, so I searched the forum and I think I found the two culprits (maybe a combination of the two):
1. The problem occured exactly the same day I began using my 16 GB card, class 2. It once happened that when I had the locked screen problem I took out the card and it immediately unlocked. But every now and then the phone still froze, even when I took out the SD card if the problem occured.
2. Then I have put off the automatic light adjustment settings and guess what; no more freezes!
It looks like a combination of power settings and use of SD card. I'm not very technical, but even when it looked like it was a hardware fault at first, it now seems it's a software fault after all.
Touchscreen doesnt work
Well F4CK my screen will not respond to touch at all anymore seems that this is a problem that is not well addressed tmobile is sending out a new one but the question is when will the touchscreen stop working on that "new" one.NOT happy at all.
Well this has now happened to me....no touch response but hardware buttons working, screen still displays-- off to JB HIFI as soon as I can to replace.
OOOKK I had this problem when i just flashed my phone with a costum rom. As far i remember my phone fall down once or twice but not something bad. I have the silicone cover and screen protector. If it was a hardware problem i believe that it shouldn't work at all even if you had to use the hardbuttons. Which that was how i would have to use to unlock the screen. I will go back to the factory rom and settings to see if there is any difference. My current rom is AthineOS 3.14 and Radio 2.15.50.14.
If for any reason you want to access your cellphone and you don't have time go through troubleshooting. I Suggest you download mymobiler which connects the phone and you can use it through your pc. Make sure you take the sd card before you connect. Here is the website www.mymobiler.com
In my case, my phone was RIP. The touch screen stopped working after installing a custom ROM. I installed the latest official ROM from T-Mobile and my phone and came back to life

Help! Cannot unlock screen, touch function not working.

Has anyone of you guys encountered the same issue with your HTC HD2? Care to share the fix you did? Would this mean bye-bye to my HD2 already?

If a clean install (task 29) doesn't help, then I guess you have no other option than sending it for reparation.
It seems like there is a limited life span on the touchscreen. Mine died in October, and I had to buy a replacement because nothing I did fixed the problem.
I had the same issue as you, but in my example touchscreen is slowly dying. For example I can't wake up the phone pressing right (red) button. So I learned that using any other button will not cause freeze of screen. I also discovered that if you gently slap your phone on hand, magically screen starts responding. Weird, but it's ‘working’ like this since 5 months so far.
I just encountered this problem with my HD2 as well. It seems that this is a fairly common issue. Apparently the digitizer for the touchscreen is located directly beneath the red power button and has a tendency to lose its connection.
For me, holding the red power button down with some force for about 5 seconds fixed the issue. Is this temporary? Perhaps, but it has worked just fine for a few days now. Try that out.
Can't Unlock the Phone..
I am having the same problem..I can't unlock the phone..No matter what android Rom I installed.I tried to removed the lock screen and the touch stopped working..But when the phone restarts and you put you pin etc,I can use the phone normally..but when it goes black and trying to turn it on again nothing works on the screen..
Though the hard buttom works..Home screen etc..but can't get the touch to work after the screen goes black!
It's not rom related
I have installed WM6.5 (Stock), Android GB, Android ICS, Android JB But the problem appears to be the same in all
when I press Red button touch doesn't work any more
I would go with digitizer theory
BUT my question is this:
is it gonna get worse? cause for now as long as i avoid Red button everything is OK :good:
and I love my HD2 but if getting worse is possible I have to get rid of it :crying:
Well i had the same problem.now my phone has been to the service centre for reparing
Sent from my LG P350 using xda premium
P.S. my HD2 got a dead touchscreen.so using this this till the HTC guys fix it

Funny (or sad) thing is we don't have an official service center here
so only option is to replace it or sell it as the way it is
Try this:
Lock the screen normally, screen turns off. (Power button)
To turn it on again by pressing any other screen buttons other than the power button. (DONT USE THE POWER BUTTON TO DO THIS)
I found that if I do it this way, the screen runs normal.
