[Q] Bluetooth Headset Audio? - Eee Pad Transformer General

Hi All,
I have a 16GB TF .. and it's been very good so far. However, I'm having an issue that I think is probably simple .. but google & xda searches don't find anyone else with the same issue.
I want to use Skype over the tablet, but with a bluetooth headset. Using the TF with just the internal mic & speakers is pretty speakerphon-ish .. and I'd like to use a headset.
I have a couple of BT headsets (one of them 2.1 w/ EDR), and I can pair any / all of them to the TF. Problem is, the audio doesn't come through over the head set, and I don't know how to force it to.
The TF (now running 3.1) acknowledges that the headset is connected (to phone audio it says) .. but the only options in the configuration is to remove it.
What am I missing? I see reviews all over the place where folks are using the tablet to play movies in the car, and piping the audio out via BT? I think I must be missing a config step .. but can't find it.
Thanks for your help.

Im kind of in the same boat but I dont think honeycomb has a "phone audio" functionality. Only "media audio," which is what you would use when piping audio to external speakers.
its the same on the phone, those headsets only connect to mono phone audio so if I was playing a movie or music its silent. So for right now I think you are stuck until they figure out how to make specific apps recognize the phone audio device.

Makes some sense .. so it knows there's a "phone audio" aspect to things out there, but we don't have any way to force the Skype audio to be phone audio and not media.
So if I had a stereo headset, would the system work with it and pipe the audio out since it would recognize it as a media audio system?
Where does the mic fit in all of this?

I have a BT combination headset/headphones which I paired with the Transformer, and from testing it I can say the following:
1. The transformer paris with the device and recognizes both the "handsfree" and "media" profiles that the headphones support.
2. The "media" profile (also called A2DP, stereo bluetooth, etc) works fine. I have listened to music in stereo though them and all of the controls like play/pause and previous/next work properly. If you want to listen to movies, music, or whatever else you should be fine.
3. I can hear Skype through the headphones, but testing revealed that Skype is using the Transformer's build in microphone rather than the one in my headphoens. It also doesn't respond to the call button. Thus, it seems to be using the "media" profile to deliver sound.
So, even though the Transformer can clearly recognize handsfree profile, it either isn't passing it to apps or Skype isn't asking for it.
It looks like as long as you plan to be Skyping with the tablet infront of you, you can get almost the same functionality of a handsfree/headset by using a BT headphones instead. As long as you don't plan to leave the tablet in one room and talk in another you should be fine.

hey so i tried Super BT Mono Free Trial and it actually worked. thought it was Froyo only and reportedly broken with gingerbread.
using Samsung WEP450 paired "handsfree" profile, turned on Super BT Mono and to my surprise audio from music player routed to the BT headset. sound is crappy, and so far can't get audio from BeyondPod to the BT headset.
rooted 8.4.4.11 with netformer 1.5 OC 1.6 ghz and juwe11 ram profile.

...
try jabra... coz jabra headset supports a2dp i had the same issues until i bought a jabra

BT Headset works for calls but not music??

I have a 8125 with a Nokia BH-600 bt headset. It works great when talking on the phone but I really want to listen to music too...
Is it possible to play music through the Nokia BT headset?
I have Media Player, Sound Recorder, and the CORE movie player but none of them play sound through the Nokia BH-600 headset! I also have a Moto H700 if that makes a difference.
Thanks!
I am not an expert on this topic so someone can correct me if im wrong, but you cannot play music through your bluetooth headset unless the headset is A2DP compatible. You also need the A2DP hack that can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=263735&page=7
Anyway, to get an A2DP headset, look on eBay; you can normally find them for around 60-80 shipped, for a quality one. The hack is a cab file that just needs to be installed before pairing the headset.
Hope that helps.
Being dumb here... how does this hack work?
I posted the link in my above post. Basically, just download the hack, copy it over to you phone, and click on it using file explorer and it will install. I am pretty sure it just adds to registry tweaks and DLL certificates, but I am not 100% sure. All i know is that is works great! After the install and a soft reset, when you pair a A2DP headet, it will have the option for setting as wireless stereo. Take a look at the thread above for more information.
Ah, so then any audio that that gets produced on the phone gets streamed on to the BT headset?
Sounds promising. I was wondering if there was a way to get navigation commands to go through my car BT kit.
I also wanted to be able to do that, as I have a bluetooth speakerphone in my car. I do no think this is possible with just a regular bluetooth headset or speakerphone.
However, I do think if you have an A2DP headset the navigation sound will come through. I am not sure if your car kit is a speaker phone or a headset, but if you prefer a speakerphone in the car (as I do), I highly doubt it's possible, because I dont think anyway speakerphone is A2DP enabled. Nevertheless, people on this forum have done more amazing things so search around, you may find something.
And yes you are correct, after the pairing, any audio that gets produced by your phone will come via the headset (hence my thinking for navigation working with A2DP headsets)
Hmm, i have got a parrot ck3000. Not sure if it is A2DP compatible. Is this hack/cab file uninstallable? lol, im asking so many questions! I think i might just give it a try.
Heres a question (as these forums are a mess and i can never find anything), Is A2DP included in any of the latest roms? I am running the AKU2 rom that t-mobile last released, so i assume that some of the cooked roms are miles better.
your options
There are 2 ways to approach this issue:
1.) A2DP hack or updated ROM (for the best possible sound quality) needs an A2DP compatible headset/headphones or home BT transceiver.
2.) Mono BT hack for BT headset (you lose Voice Dial) has the lesser sound quality of the mono audio channel (the one you hear when on a phone call) See this tutorial for more details and options.
I highly recommend any and all BlueTooth articles by Menneisyys one of our Moderators.
See his articles on BlueTooth and more here.
Awsome! Thanks for the link to that article. I will give the BTAudioNav a try to see if this works how i want it to! Coolio! Thanks
Ah balls it. It looks like its just another constant streaming program. Shame, i would have loved to just get the commands to be said and then the radio wont be contantly cut out.
my 2cents
Just installed this .cab on my wizard (o2 xda mini s, G3 un-updated at all.)
Works a treat, I'd foolishly bought a a2dp headset without checking compatibility and now it is compatable.

Bluetooth for audio output?? Can't get to work!

Hi,
I've got a 3xx series Plantronics headset and i've got a question about using it for more than JUST calls.
Can I use it for watching movies?? at the moment, when the movie plays, it automatically goes to loudspeaker, even whilst paired.
I know of something called A2DP, but I'm not sure that my BT headset is that... Can I install something or change some setting to make the music/movie play through my present headset??
Thanks!!
A2dp is a stereo profile, should be active if you have a stereo headset and are listening to anything stereo on the phone. I've been having trouble getting A2DP to stay active on my phone as well, but I just read about a program called A2DP Toggle found Here seems to be working for me tho I'm not sure its what your looking for.
Well I don't own a stereo BT headset. Just a normal one-ear one.
I want to know if there is a way to port the movie/music sounds through it.
So I think its a bit different to your case. Anyone else?? Thanks
btw, I've used a simple bluetooth headset with my PC before and it ported all the sounds from the PC to my earpiece... so technically it should be the same case for phone? I hope there's a way...

Thanks jonasd,
It seems like its an old thread - any newer applications that are similar?
Does the toggle application for for your X1??

Mono Bluetooth for music

I am currently running Dudes 1.1 cupcake right now and loving every
part of it except that I can't seem to listen to my music via mono bluetooth. I have a few regular bluetooths for talking and would like to listen to my music thru them also. I read about stereo bluetooth working and all, but does it not work on mono bluetooth.
Please help..
Also, if I must get a stereo bluetooth, can you suggest were to go to get a cheap good one that will work. Thanks
bluetooth music help
someone really needs to help please.. Stuck using a standard MP3 player with CORDED headphones. .. Please guide me to getting bluetooth mono/stereo on my DUDE'S CUPCAKE ...
i wish i could get this to work as well, i have a phenominal bluetooth headset (mono) and am allowed to wear it around at work all day (but no stereo headphones) since its a product we sell, and would love to be able to listen to my mp3's aswell
Previously used a blackberry pearl with crackberry software to run MONO BLUETOOTH for my music. Now I lost that with G1. I LOVE my G1, so don't get me wrong. I just wish they had something to offer mono bluetooth music. If they did, I swear it would be perfect thanks to DUDES Cupcake.
Yep, i would like to know this to. I know it can be done because you can force the sound after the call for like 10 to 20 seconds then it goes out.

yeaaa it never turns off on my when i do it it keeps playing.. only turns off when the call ends
There are mono headsets that support a2dp ,why not buy one of them instead of trying to re-write the code
http://shopper.cnet.com/headsets/jabra-bt8010-stereo-mono/4014-13831_9-32327768.html
I could but I like my Motorola H690
more HELP
I am caving in.. I will buy a Stereo Bluetooth headset, if i am guarenteed it will work on DUDE's CUPCAKE 1.1a .. I see on the comparision chart that it doesn't support stereo bluetooth for music.. Can someone please confirm or deny this..
If confirmed, what is the cheapest bluetooth i can buy that will play my music.
If DUDE's doesnt support, what can you recommend to install to work Stereo/Mono bluetooth. I was leaning towards jf 1.51, but i would love to keep DUDE's
Thanks again
Dudes build will work with stereo bluetooth because my car's head unit will accept it and works great just not with my mono motorola headset.
Hate to bring up a older thread but I am wondering if anyone has found a way to do this. I dont want to buy a a new bluetooth because i have no use for them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
^Bump. I would like to know as well.
When I pair my phone with the Bluetooth (Plantronics 925) and select options - I see it connected to phone audio and media audio. But when I play music (stock player), it plays through the speakers. I did try a Google search on this, but not seeing a solution to it

[Q] music through my jawbone bt earpiece?

is it possible on the vibrant to stream music to my jawbone bt earpiece ? i used to do it on my touch pro 2. but with android im not sure ? help me out guys please
Yes, it's possible (though it may depend on what model Jawbone you have). Make sure your Jawbone is updated with H2DP and your phone should be able to recognize that the headset can be headphones as well. Check out the Jawbone website for more info.
If his jawbone is like my old one ( now use a Plantronics Pro), it didn't support Stereo (H2DP)
One of things I plan on looking into the Android source for is why someone hasn't come out with a "Mixer" app to route Media out the BT Headset profile. I'm sure there's a technical reason.
I've never seen a phone send music out to a BT headset... I don't understand why that is, it does if you use a wired headphone.
Things like podcasts should be fine in a mono headset. Even music would be better than nothing.

A2DP?
The new jawbone hero has an update that supports A2DP. Music sounds terrible through it tho, I even streamed NPR's car talk through it and it was scratchy. For some reason too, the phone prefers streaming over BT rather than through the audio jack when it's plugged in. Turned off the audio profile for the headset.

Bluetooth

Is there a way to modify the bluetooth code so that the "ear peice" via "bluetooth" will also give you "music" etc....
I mean if the phone detects the ear peice and plays all the calls thru the ear peice..... why cant it be hacked to also play internet music....
Thanks in advance....
pm me a fix... flame in public...
Actually, I too would like to know if this is possible. Why can't it just be detected as wireless "headphones/headset".
Although I'm using an iPhone 4 so I'm sure that it'd be more difficult to do this if it is possible.
Should work

It depends on the activity the app code is running on the host device. All audio is able to be routed to the headphones. What kind of phone are you using?
It's not as simple as wired headphones. BT has something called profiles - each profile is for doing some particular thing - like transferring files, playing music, making calls, etc. For a particular feature to be supported, both the phone and the headset has to support that particular profile. Most android versions have support for most common profiles.
Calls are possible through profiles called HSP/HFP and stereo music is possible through profile called A2DP. Most of the mono headsets which are mainly for calling support only HSP/HFP and not A2DP - that's main reason you can't play music on most mono headsets. If you buy stereo BT headsets, they come with both HSP/HFP and A2DP - meaning they can support both calls and audio.
There are apps / hacks to stream music from an android phone to a mono headset through HSP/HFP. I've never tried any - you can look for those if you want to play music on your mono BT HSP headset.

Are you able to connect the device to a computer or tablet? I think it would depend on the drivers on the device you're connecting to. What are you trying to connect to? Does it detect your earpiece?
its a jabra bluetooth ear peice.
and theres several "mono" bluetooth apps on the market/play store.
I happened to try blue tooth mono router and it works fairly well.
seems to use aprox 3 to 5% of battery in aprox 15 to 20 mins.
:good:
