How to Backup Your Emails Accounts (NOT GMAIL) Email Accounts - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok this was a big problems for me because i love testing out sifferent rom but also have like 9 different emaisl accounts on my phone (NOT GMAIL) but email accounts.
And everytime i would tryout a new rom and i would do a wipe and then have to Start from scratch with my email accouts.
So i did some messing around with my phone and foudn out how to make a complete backup of all my account please read carfully
(I AM NOT RESPONSIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES DOEN TO YOUR DEVICE)
Things Nedded
# 1. An Android Phone (Duhhhhhh)
# 2. A Rooted Phone (Must be rooted to do this)
# 3. Root Explorer
# 4. An SD Card with enough space to backup your accounts.
here is the procedure.
Before installing any new roms or just doing a wipe you must do the following to backup your accounts.
Open Root Explorer and browse to the following folder on your phone
data/data/com.android.email folder
in this folder should find the following folders
chache
database
files
lib
shared_prefs
now copy each folder and browse back into your sd card and paste them into a new folder on your SD card.
now your email setting are safe and you can wipe the data from your phone.
now once you have installed a new rom or did a master reset.
go into your email app and add 1 email account somthign simple like a gmail or aol etc....
install and run root explorer again,
browse to your SD card were you saved toye 5 email folders
copy them and then browse back to
data/data/com.android.email
make a new folder in the data/data/com.anroid.email folder
so now open the new created folder so you will be in data/data/com.android.email/new folder (or what ever you named the new folder)
now paste the 5 folders in this new folder
chache
database
files
lib
shared_prefs
now open each folder and copy all files inside 1 of the folders for instance data/data/com.android.email/new folder/database copy all files in this folder
now browse back to data/data/com.android.emal folder and open the database folder located here in data/data/com.android.email.
so now you will be in the following folder data/data/com.android.email/database
now paste your files in this folder. (Please Note you may ends up with 2 of the same files for instance) (webview.db & webview.db -copy) delete the webview.db file and keep the webview.db-copy file.
now rename the webview.db-copy file to webview.db and any additional file that may have the -COPY extension on it delete the orignal and rename the -COPY file as the original file name.
keep doing this process with all 5 folders.
once done if you go into your email.app you will only still see the emailaccount you created erlier this is normal.
Now reboot your phone (Full Reboot) power off then power on.
when you return to your email.app you will see that all your account have returened.
if you need any help let me know.
i will add screen shots later to help out
Hope this helps.

Great tutorial! This has been driving me nuts for years.
Just tried it though and the copy process failed... I believe a file was in use. I went to the app manager and force stopped email, but it still failed in copying. It did get farther though.
Any idea what else I should force stop for succes?
My plan b is to boot into recovery and see if I can do the copy steps from TWRP. Seems like I saw a file manager in there before..
Thanks again!
Mike

Ok Here are two Simple solutions ::
1><NOT RECOMMENDED> This solution basically helps is hiding the contents of a particular folder and might cause problems with the apps which are linked to those files..It is advisable to be used for images you don't want to show up in gallery and are not associated with any app eg GPS..
-Open Astro / Androzip or whatever file manager/explorer you are using and create a folder named “.anyname” and then mount your phone or mini-SD card on a computer.
-Transfer private files into the new folder and they will no longer appear in the photo browser. Browsing through Astro or a similar file manager will become the only method of viewing those photos on an Android phone.
2> <HIGHLY RECOMMENDED>
- On your computer, open Notepad or any other text editor
-Save the blank file as “.nomedia” . Make sure that the Save as type is set as “All Files” instead of “Text documents”
-Copy that file to the folder on your SD card containing audio files you don’t want to show up.
(Example: If you want to block CoPilot sound files from coming up, place the .nomedia file in the sdcard/copilot folder)
-Reboot your phone and the files should no longer be viewable
This same trick works for folders containing images or videos that you don’t want to appear in the Gallery app. The files will still be accessible from your original app or an explorer like Astro or Linda or Androzip, but you’ll finally be able to stop hearing “From the next roundabout take the first exit" announcements after a great song.

[Q] Accidentally deleted file manager files

So my dad accidentally deleted the folders and files in file manager. His tablet works fine, he uses it to browse so doesn't download anything, but I want the files there for peace of mind.
How can I get all the original files back? Dont really want to reset the tablet as it has got his apps and so on which I don't want reinstall. If that's the only option though then I will reset it.
I do have the same tablet myself so if that helps then please let me know.
So he uninstalled the file manager? Or deleted something else?
If it's on yours, you can copy and transfer with no issue.
If he just uninstalled the filemanager or deleted an aspect somehow, copy over directly, or install a different file browser like ES.
File manager is still there but my dad must have gone on it and pressed delete, select all, and delete again. So there are no files in file manager, or any folders, apart from maybe 1 or 2.
It shouldn't affect anything then, but if you like just go into your file manager and copy all the folders, then you can put them in anther folder, which you copy and empty in his filemanager directory. Its simple cut and paste really

Missing folders in android/data...is something wrong with my phone?

I'm trying to access my Final Fantasy IV data folder to backup my save folder, but I can't seem to find the folder even though I already researched the specific directory. How do I access the "hidden" directory? I am using root access explorers set to show hidden files but that doesn't help.
Here is a link that shows the specific directory to backup the save file (read the second comment).

Try copying smaller groups of files at a time.

The Android folder will cause this issue when trying to copy it and all sub folders at once by simply selecting the Android folder and copying it.
Instead, create an Android folder in your destination folder (where you are copying to) then create each subfolder as well (data, obb, etc). Then just copy each folder within data, obb, etc, individually. It's a PITA, but this is how I've always bypassed the problem.

did it work ?
I just had the same problem. It may be some sort of corrupted folder. Here's what worked for me:
I think it started when I tried copying multiple folders instead of just one at a time, as I usually do. I cancelled because it was taking so long.
After that I constantly got the exact same thing you describe ... Had to kill Windows Explorer over & over.
What I noticed: Windows Explorer could surf into other folders, but clicking on one particular folder always hung Explorer.
So, I went in on the phone's My Files app, and did the following:
1. Looked at the folder - It appeared fine.
2. I copied all the files out of the folder
3. Deleted the folder
4. Recreated it
5. Copied the files back in
It took a few tries, but after that everything is back to working normally.

Need root to access obb folder?

As title states, to access the obb folder, do I need to be rooted?
no you dont need to be rooted.
I dnt see the obb folder inside the Android folder.. its normally
Android > obb
what file manager are you using? Are you checking for the obb folder on the memory card or internal memory? What game/app are you trying to install that you need the obb folder?
S7 built-in file manager... and of course internal memory...
hmm it should be available by default try creating the folder and placing whatever game/app you want in side it.
doesnt seem to work... tried a few times with different app... just FCs
Out of interest, If you do not see it, You may not have an application thats created Obb.
This folder is not created unless a package is stored in here.
you can create it manually via file manager / file browser
(If you create it manually, there is every chance you need to set the permissions and assign it a group)
obb is owned by media_rw (Group id 1023)
The permissions on this folder are:
rwxrwx--- OR 0770 (Owner and Group Full read Write Execute)
If the folder exists and is hidden, the application will not allow you to create the folder.
Delete the folder and download one of the following from the store:
This should create the OBB folder
StarKnight
Brain it on
The Room 3
Thumb drift
Ilttle Drew
Odyssey
(Just some packages i have in Obb)

Im not rooted so I cant check/change permissions.. But I did install the thumb drift game and the OBB file showed up.. still just getting FCs
I'm using an s5 on RR 7.1.2 and I can't access obb. It's there but the folders inside are empty. And I can not move files into the directory.... I don't know why.
