[Q] s-off question - Wildfire General

I bought a wildfire from india a while back, and then upgraded to 2.2.1
This may be a dumb question, but would it still be s-on due to the update or would that not change?
thanks in advance

The Wildfire is at a S-ON state out of the box (Irrespective of whether you got it with Android 2.1 or 2.2), and, upgrading to 2.2 will not make any change. It will be S-ON

Have u got the wildfire with stock eclair at first, and then upgraded to stock froyo. If so, may be u have made a mistake. The wildfire with stock froyo (hboot 1.01 and S-ON) cannot be rooted with a software as now.
And since alpharev2 is not yet released, all wildfires will be S-ON as now unless xtc clip is used. Official updates will not turn S-ON to S-OFF. Instead they made the hboot more secure till now.

How to unroot? back to stock

hi all,
i would like to unroot my desire Z completely to stock rom.
And i would not want those silly questions; why would you want it ? it sucks blabla.
I just do it for my guarantee.
So i cant find an official RUU.
I thought i could take the 1.34 original PC10IMG to downgrade it to 1.34.
but im kinda scared, cause im permrooted got S-off, and a engineeringspl.
So can i just apply the original 1.34 PC10IMG or will it brick then?
I already googled but couldnt find anything.
Please help me to completely unroot.
Greetings,
Nick
What ROM are you running right now ?
When you say you have S-OFF, is that only through the eng hboot ,or have you used gfree to get full radio S-OFF ?

thought i used both lol first gfree and after that i took the old hboot process to gain s-0ff. now running vitiouw 0.9.5
If you have radio S-OFF via gfree, then you are perfectly safe to flash an older stock ROM. The dangerous scenario is if you only have S-OFF via the eng hboot (not gfree) and then flash a stock ROM.

As long as you used gfree to get full radio S-OFF (e.g. you ran gfree -s and it worked) then you are safe. If you're unsure, then see how to check if you have radio S-OFF in the Wiki at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik..._Vision#VERIFY_.28using_.22gfree_verify.22.29
Well i use visionary and terminal using the 1st method of rooting. I had to send my phone in for replacemnt because of the headphone jack didnt work. So i had to unroot by useing hex editor and terminal. Lol really time consuming to unroot

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999796
I think that you could return to the stock HBOOT but i dont know why you would want to

2.3.3

i just update to 2.3.3.. izzit mean that my dhd is now a s-off phone?
No, not at all!!!
S-off is something way different! ... there is radio S-OFF and ENG S-OFF
You can learn the difference between them from HERE
You need to be rooted to do both of these. You can know what is needed to S-OFF (radio or ENG) from the links provided above.
i though htc announced that they will unlock all the bootlocker?

AlphaRev X, HTC Buzz/Wildfire HBOOT 1.01 S-OFF - Coming Soon

Hi all Wildfire owners
AlphaRev X Team says that HTC Buzz/Wildfire HBOOT 1.01 S-OFF is Coming Soon so let's hope that it will be out fast
http://youtu.be/mPNpqR-Y5ac
But is this mean the device is rooted or will need more work to do ?
I wish alpharev good luck, still waiting for S-OFF for my wildfire , but at the rate they're going, all the devices that will be getting s-off, won't be used that much and not many ppl will care anyway lol.
Still, i'd like to see some metamorphing happening on my wildfire ^_^, can't wait, i have paitience
although i don't blame them, they ARE doing it for free =)
Patience
Its been coming soon for quite some time :|

Never mind. Thought alpharev x will be the same as alpharev. Don't know about alpharev x. Let us hope it doesn't require root for making s-off.
But the result will be something like "ALL OR NONE". If it doesn't require root, then it is the complete solution. And if it requires root, it will be nothing untill wildfire gets rooted.

Yes he confirmed it just now. That was reliable and I'm starting to believe it now. That's really good.
Hope alpharev x comes soon and gives freedom to wildfire.

AlpharevX will not require permroot. It will require temproot via psneuter/gingerbreak (integrated).
And no, it has not 'been coming soon for some time'. AlpharevX is the first announcement about the possiblity to overcome HBOOT 1.x
AlphaRev in it's original form never could, nor was it ever stated it would work on HBOOT 1.x.
In other words, this supercedes AlphaRev (hence the newer name) and will provide a solution for most, if not all HTC generation devices that won't get an unlock.
A 'device' is not rooted. A rom gets 'rooted'. S-OFF enables for that su binary to actually stick, aka permroot.
Ok. Atleast now there is a good hope that 2.2 wildfire will be rooted in future. So let us stick with our device and be a little more patient for sometime. And ben confirmed that alpharev2 is ready for wildfire and is in testing phase for other devices. So, the ones with hboot 0.80 are close to their s-off.
And thanks to all those who are working for alpharev x. I wish u all the best.

Oooh I really love those guys it is incedible how they can make fun of a whole htc developer team just by giving us s-off in a way they developed in there own spare (!!) time.
If you read this, people from AlphaRev: know that I'm having deep respect here. And that I'm f*cking jalous that I can not do such things myself
W00t nice! Any info about the release date?

Yeah, sorry, i was confused between alpharev 2 and alpharev x. Eagerly awaiting it
good news
impresive, any hints on release day?
What's taking them so long to publish the process how to do it? I'm sure they are trying to make it simple.
I think nothing is simple when it comes to 2.2 wildfire.
It will take time for the alpharev x. The release date will be said at the time of release as usual. But really a good hope at the moment.

They are our only hope now , let's wish it will be out soon
Usually products from AlphaRev are for rooted devices, they've announced that on their website. So basicly, we cannot S-OFF wildfire without rooting it.
http://alpharev.nl/ Read it and carefully read the REQUIREMENTS
No lol. This one is alpharev x and it is confirmed that it won't need a prerooted device. This one is specially for hboot 1 + on all devices. So it roots + s-off the phone.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I think AlphaRev are planning to release s-off for wildfire hboot 1.01 along with 0.80 also with other devices that's y they are taking so much time but its good they are doing for as much devices as possible.. All the best for Alpha Team...

Kinda odd that you already now have S-OFF. But you're gonna have to downgrade back to 2.2.1 first. This thread will show you everything that you need to do/know.

Doesn't gingerbreak.apk work if S-Off?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Gingerbreak won't work.
On the other hand, having S-OFF allows it to flash PD15IMG with recovery, for example. Which in turn allows everything else.
You totally didn't need to use the XTC clip! And what kind of a noob are you if you have an XTC clip? ;-)
But now that you have...
Go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200147
Use the file that just contains ClockworkMod and ENG HBoot:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Y2A16P54
Then boot into recovery and flash any ROM you want to. Or root the stock ROM using the superuser update zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828 (use the "ef" Eclair/Froyo version)
