Okay, so it's almost 3am as I sit in front of this horribly outdated computer, bored, but deprived of any sense of drowsiness. What better to do before I root my Samsung Nexus S 4G than to start a thread of what I'd want the Nexus 3 to have. Sure, there are other things I could do that would be numerous times better than this one, but I engaged in a few news stories on my Pulse App about some new tech that is coming our way, so this is what I decided on. Feel free to add in some good ideas. Laser beams, shark fins for super-duper galactic reception, retina scanner, etc. Most of what I came up with sounds possible (well, possible to me, but probably because I don't understand much of the complications that'll be in place from trying to squeeze all this power into one device). If I'll carry home a phone like that, my PC will probably kill itself.
I don't need a bigger screen. And mostly, I don't want a bigger phone.
I also think 800x480 (or 854x480 like some Motorola/SE devices) it's a pretty damn good resolution for a 4'' display.
1280x720 it's almost 2.5 times the amount of pixels.
Don't think a 2000mA battery can help so much. :/
Rather, I really hope they take care about battery life in the next generation devices (even NS already perform very well).
Lol, my SNS4G is almost as good as my computer =/ it's pretty sad. I just feel, especially with Super AMOLED Plus, a resolution that high for a 4.3" screen (or even a 4") would just be remarkably amazing. The phone-that-shall-not-be-named has a wonderful display due to the resolution, but I just feel like the size is too small (that's what she said?). So with Samsung's amazing displays, but an HD resolution with just blow my mind! I would seriously throw out my desktop and use my phone for everything.
As for battery life, currently the processors we have now are, I believe 40nm? Maybe 45nm. Such is the Hummingbird. So 28nm, whether is be single, dual, or even quad, would be theoretically insanely battery efficient, especially with such high speed RAM at a low 30nm power. SAP displays also would help with battery life and with dual channel RAM it wouldn't overload and drain the battery.
This is all in theory though. Feel free to punch me and call me a dork, lmao. You are right though, battery tech needs to improve, though I hear they've found some good alternatives that are a great deal better than our current tech.
Battery does need to improve. I'd love to trade my rooted inspire 4G and a brand new Google TV Logitech Revue for the HTC Sensation. I'm so in love with that phone lol.

I'm not really sure. It's different. I like accessing the internet/youtube/twitter from my TV, so Google TV is good for that instance. Netflix on it is unbeatable and overall it's nice to own. I don't think it's worth $299 though. I think Google TV is still early and will become something in the months ahead, but I wouldn't pay $299 again. Maybe 150-199$.
The keyboard that it comes with is pretty neat as well.

well, with a 4.3 inch phone, i think the power button is good to go as it is on the nexus s. having it on top makes it hard to press with one hand.
New specs needed apart from the stuff you said:
- fingerprint recognition on the screen
- extra-high capacity antennas so that roaming is no longer needed. you can connect to your network even if u travel abroad
- I want a 4.7" display.
- A freakin notification led already?
- A 6000 mAh battery. No, I don't care about the number. I want it to last for 20 hours of navigation and audio streaming. Maybe solar + motion + humidity trickle charge would help. I want wireless charging, too, anywhere in my house or car.
- Ambient temp/pressure/humidity sensor.
- Full-size holographic keyboard
- Satellite backup for when I don't have a cell signal.
- Stereo speakers that don't sound like crap.

- I want it to sense eye movement and automatically flip the page when I'm on the last line.

- On second right, I might keep the 4" screen. Judging by the reach of my thumb when I'm holding it, I'm inclined to agree with Miriam Joire that 4" is the sweet spot. But...
- I want the screen to wrap around the back or retract into a slot in the left edge like a roll top desk, so I can extend it out to 8" for serious reading. (Hey, it's my dream, alright?)
- Forget kickstands. I want a compact magnetic plate desk accessory for electro-magnetic levitation with user-controlled height & angle.
- How about a built-in projector for movies on the fly?
- While we're at it, I want a retractable knife blade and corkscrew, a cigarette lighter, and a Megawatt laser for frying bacon.

I love my Nexus One, but like everything, as time goes by and new things come along, there are things I wish were different.
If you had 'three wishes' and could change only three things about the N1, what would it be?
Here's my list
1. By far my first wish would be for more application flash memory. Even with App2SD, there is just not enough space for all the apps I want to install. I'd love to see a minimum of 4GB of app memory.
2. Front Camera. Now that real video conferencing apps and reasonably fast 3G is available, this is a big deal.
3. Screen. We all know how terrible the touch screen is. I get real tired of locking and unlocking to 'reset' the digitizer once it's lost it's mind. While we're replacing the screen, going up to a 4" SuperAMOLED at a little higher res wouldn't hurt. Maybe 960x512 ?
Things I wouldn't change
- The dual, noise canceling mics. This works great.
- The titanium alloy case. Light, sturdy, cool.
- AMOLED. I'll never go back to LCD.
- multiple radio bands. Take it anywhere.
- Bare Android. Keep your UI's and overlays.
***Update***
Now that I've been playing with Darktremor's a2sd script on CM6.1.1, I have to revise my list. Google should really release a code update that allows users to (optionally) do just what DarkTremor's a2sd app does. Truly move the apps and Dalvik cache to the SD card. This really does remove the app memory limitation on the Nexus One. In fact I now have 145 apps installed totaling 256MB !
Note that this does require partitioning your SD card and creating an ext(2/3/4) partition and the whole process is not noob friendly, but if you take your time and do a little research first it's WELL WORTH IT!!
This will make you love your Nexus One again.
Now, about my list.
My new wish to replace the app memory item is:
- USB host mode and additional microUSB host port.
How cool would it be to be able to hook up keyboards, mice, external HD's, even monitors? We already know it can be done, but it would have been nice from the factory.
Actually, I wouldn't care about app space too much, since proper old-fashioned Apps2EXT allows installing as much as I can possibly imagine.
I also wouldn't change the screen size. Absolutely no need to go any larger. And that includes resolution - the only visible resolution artifacts are the result of PenTile AMOLED, and not lack of resolution. No need to make the GPU work much harder.
Things I would change:
1) Digitizer (touchscreen), for obvious reasons.
2) CPU - rebase on 7x30, to get the same CPU with twice faster GPU.
3) Better photo camera.
1. More geebees! Seriously, 4-8GB internal memory should be sufficient until Unreal Engine and id games get ported.
2. Dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. Need I say more?
3. Hardware keyboard! I've had my N1 for over 6 months now and still can't get used to virtual keyboards. Swype is nice, but it's not multi-lingual.
Bonus round: Screen size bump to 4 inches would be nice. I find that the optimal size. At the very least an upgrade to a Super AMOLED.
In no particular order:
Better digitizer
More memory
Better speakerphone
Better screen - a cross between the retina display and a super amoled would do me, and with much improved touch screen performance.
Better gpu, coming from a galaxy s that is one thing I miss.
Better camera.
Alreet headphone socket which is actually flush. I really don't want to be buying headphones again to find the phone goes mental when I plug them in (apparently some headphones don't fit in the none flush jack and so the phone gets confused as to whether it's headphones or a headset). Found this out the hard way recently.
More internal app memory, though this isn't such a big deal any more.
3 wishes? i would pay for this...
1. new and BIGGER SCREEN. my eyes are hurting after using a hd2 (thats why im still on the hd2..) atleast 4" would be nice.. but i dont want to leave the 4.3"

best things on this device are obvious:
- like OP said, the second mic for noise canceling is awsome
- AMOLED is cool, even if the screen is too small
- THE ****IN TRACKBALL, GODDAMN I LOVE IT
- the whole design of the device is awsome
EDIT: oooh i forgot.. 3.5 audio jack on the bottom plz.. at the top just sucks. and get the power key to the other side where the jack now is...
I still have trouble with my wifi connection temporarily dropping after I wake the phone, but I am not sure if that is a hardware or software issue.
I wouldn't mind a line-out jack for audio. Even better would be an HDMI out jack for video capability.
The antenna could be redesigned so the signal wouldn't be affected by hand placement. It's not as bad as some but it could be better.
Overall, though, in terms of design and performance the N1 still rocks for being 11 months old. That is normally eons in terms of the product cycle in this market. I'm so glad I bought two for my wife and I.

Better digitizer is a. Close 4th.
Digitizer. It felt really disappointing to learn that the sensor could only handle two inputs, and crappily at that. I wish it had shipped with one that didn't spaz out whenever the battery was charging.
Camera Button. I'm not a huge photogeek but this would have been a slick feature. Tapping the screen always shakes the camera noticably, and my photos come out blurred. I think a camera button could have limited that.
Front Facing Camera. I think this really would have helped to future-proof the N1; now, if (hopefully when) a video chat protocol is standardized for the Android platform, I'll have to upgrade if I want to be able to utilize it.
I also still have conflict with the capacitive buttons. I like them because they're sleek and sit flush with the screen. However, I dislike them because they don't work when the phone is locked (in case I want to remap the buttons to, say, skip songs).

i think the intention of this post was more towards what you would change and not what phone would you rather buy today.. super amoled and tegra are new technologies and weren't available when the nexus was created
what others have been saying:
ffc: i can live without a front facing cam because i can still video call people, the only reason i would ever use video is to show someone something not just so that i can talk face to face
gpu: it's not that bad, it's not the best but it is almost a year old now
camera: decent enough, do you really need 1080p?
battery: that's not really much to do with the phone, all batteries suck
This is tough, I had to cross a few things out:
1) 4" screen without all the current problems
(love the size and weight, but a tiny bit more screen would be nice. and we all know the other problems)
2) Better battery life
(currently have to charge it 2-3 times a day)
3) Better voice recognition
(I'm from Texas but VR hardly understands me. And the more I repeat a phrase, the more it misunderstands the words.)

I'm impressed, There are actually a lot of good ideas here.
I'm already cobbling them together into my "perfect phone" list.
So far it looks like:
- Vanilla Android 2.2.1+
- Unlocked
- Multiple Radio bands (like the N1)
- Minimum of HSDPA support, HSDPA+ or LTE pref.
- Minimum of 4GB app storage
- MicroSD slot that's accessible without removing battery.
- Front camera
- 5 MP rear camera (I don't care what anyone says, any more than 5MP in a camera with an aperture that small is a bad idea and only done for marketing reasons. It's all about light gathering, not resolution. Think the opposite of DPI as it's used in screens and printers. The lower the camera pixels per inch, the better)
- 720p video at 30fps
- SuperAMOLED screen. LCD is the past, forget it.
- dual core CPU with GFX acceleration
- HDMI output
- FM radio
- Micro USB with host mode option.
Note that these are in addition to all the standard Nexus One features like a titanium allow case, dual microphones, etc.

Regarding #3, you've fallen into the megapixel myth. Megapixels don't mean much of anything for most consumer devices. Sure, if you are a pro photographer taking pictures for magazines or billboards, then yes. maybe you need a high MP camera. For everyone else, it's nonsense.
For example, you wished for 12MP to handle 1080p video. but the fact is that full HD, 1920x1080 is only 2MP!
On a cell phone with a tiny camera chip, the less MP, the better. Why? Because this means that each pixel element is larger and therefore can capture more light. This results in better saturation, faster ISO ratings, and better low light capability.
Anything over 5MP in a cell phone is a waste and counter-productive.
Personally I also think 8MP is the limit of diminishing returns on consumer digital cameras, and 12MP for DSLRs.
If you follow digital camera news, you'll find that the biggest push is to put larger image sensors in cameras.

3- 1 GB of RAM is enough.
4- HD Super AMOLED Plus.
5- Corning's Lotus Glass and Oleophobic coating. 4.3 inches screen should be enough.
6- On-screen buttons which double as LED notification (same like Galaxy Nexus)
7- 2500 mAh battery or close to Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX (3300 mAh). Please sacrifice the phone's thinness for this, please!

I wish my SGS would instantly teleport me to the person I'm calling when he answers so we can talk directly instead.
Probably have the same changes of that happening as the SGS3 having all the things you want
but seriously now, and edgeless display is all I ever wanted in a phone and that's all I still want now. Everything else is just a bonus.
Why would you want Bluetooth 4.0? BT4.0 is the ultra low energy variant of Bluetooth and with that comes ultra low range and ultra low speeds. You might want to look into a feature before deciding it is good based purely on the version number.
Other than that your list looks pretty good, if not a bit optimistic. I would be content with just having the same audio quality as the Galaxy S, if you're referring to the Wolfson DAC I mean.

Actually that list looks pretty reasonable (well may be except for the front facing camera).
They need to do more than just put together a group of decent specs like the SGS II.
Things like UI, battery life, build quality, and so on are what really matter.
If the screen is over 4" I won't be interested either.

Really annoys me that Sony still haven't released the Xperia Z and all these more powerful phones are coming out now.

I guess you won't notice a big difference of the screen size...the 5 inch displays of the Sony has to show the buttons at the bottom. On the HTC One they don't "count" to the display.
I haven't decided yet, but I still favor the Xperia Z

Ultrapixel is just a marketing term the sensor is as big as the sensor in the z but has far less pixels, which is for lots of reasons better, especially for a phone, coupled with de IS it is bound to be better than the z. I think it is a smart move from htc especially for a phone.
The htc one is absolutely gorgeous, the best looking phone I've ever seen, extremely premium aluminium uni body, with what will be the best screen on any phone this year. Having played with an xperia z in store, with its awful washed out screen, average camera, and a build and look that strangely doesn't feel particularly premium in real life, i'm glad I didn't pre order the xperia z

When i say bult in amplifier I just mean its better than the one in the S3
Officaly the Xperia Z only supports 16GB
Why don't you add the Galaxy S 4 to the topic?
These topic's are so stupid, technology nowadays is going so fast... Each device you're fighting for these days will be outdated in a few months.

HTC is also much better in dropping marketing terms
any way probably a better phone.
I honestly really like both phones. There will always be advantages to one phone over the other, but honestly (unless you are a complete pessimist) both phones should be able to keep you happy for around 1-1.5 years minimum.
The thing that I want to understand is the HTC One Capacitive Buttons. You have home and back... but where is menu? Menu is probably one of the most essential buttons in android. Hopefully (this is what I would do) hitting home once would bring up menu, and double tap will go home. Something along those lines. Nothing I am really worried about anyways (AOKP will fix it haha)
I do not really think UI is something to get in a heated debate about... once custom firmware hits you can put whatever you want on. Personally I am going to rock stock AOKP on any phone I get.
Same goes for storage.... Sure XZ has a micro SD slot, but there aren't any micro SDXC cards bigger than 64gb (and might not be for a while), so really the difference between the HTC One and XZ is 64GB vs 80GB at maximum.
The only real criticism I have for Sony is the delayed North American release for the Z and especially the ZL. HTC revealed the phone today and will release in a Month. Xperia ZL was revealed in mid January and wont come out till April. There is no point to reveal an amazing new phone and then release it once it is old news. Shame on Sony for that.
Both phones are awesome, just go for the one you prefer.
Battery life is something I am finding more and more confusing with Android phones. How is it that the HTC Butterfly gets a better battery life test during video streaming than the Xperia Z by over an hour, yet has a 13% smaller battery, same processor,same GPU, and same screen resolution. This seems completely counter-intuitive.
Now for my personal opinion. I prefer the outer design and features of the ZL over the HTC One (I like the idea of as little bezel as possible), however I prefer the One screen and speakers. Not going to make any decisions till the Galaxy S4 comes out.

well in long run when reviews come out this may not pay well for HTC.

benchmarks are only 5-10% better and that too only due to higher clock CPU .... i m not convinced with snapdragon 600 too .... it did nothing brilliant... over s4 pro... (i dont know if it saves more power)
but then obviously its my view of the summary... lets see what happens... XZ has its own flaws too.
Do you guys really like the UI ? Can't say i like it... especially the drawer. In this aspect Sony's UI is much better for me ( if they got rid of those hideous grey rectangles in the drawer - it'd be perfect for me as far as Android can go, and in terms of UI i'm a big fan of Windows Phone's consistent, simple and clear UI )

I think they are quite good, for a phone hardly any noise, but still a phone no matter how cool the sensor tech (and indeed this is just going back to basics nothing new going on) the lens still sucks, if the lens suck the photo quality sucks it's simple. really great photo's on a phone is just not going to happen (if the phone needs to be thin)
It has the same GPU as the s4 pro, it is a marginal update, maybe it will perform better in some cases. the 800 series will be a different beast.

There are no or close to no posts about what people like about the phone. I don't blame anyone because it actualy makes no sense of opening a thread like "I like its screen. K thanx bye."
So lets make a thread and write only about the good things it offers and what you like about HTC One and why would you suggest this phone to public.
Try to keep this thread without trolling and discouraging people of buying this phone or pointing out what problems it has. I would like to ask any MOD to delete negative comments in this thread to make it clean and ON TOPIC.

When I attended HTC Launch in München I fisrt held the device in my hands. The feeling was awesome, incredible, I was speechless about the design (I didn't like it at first) and it really is an awesome device.
Sound quality is outstanding. I compared front speakers to my HTC One X and I couldn't even hear my One X ..it was like speakers weren't playing on One X. I like the Music app finding lyrics for you automaticly. Everything is easy and just works.
Zoe is amazing. I thought it was something I would never use at first (I am more like point and shoot - still images) but than I looked closely - amazing.

The screen of HTC One compared to my ONE X is like night and day. I always liked HTC One X screen but compared at full brightness really makes a difference.

I've went to Vodafone Romania in weekend and I could put my hands on HTC ONE. The first thing that left me speechless was the DISPLAY. The display is AMAZING, STUNNING ...no words for it. Is so crisp and everything is looking incredible. (My actually phone is iPhone 4S, which has a great display, but the one on HTC is simply brilliant).
Another thing that I really like is how you feel the phone in your hand.

I'm so hooked on this phone, something about it just gets me more interested than any other phone has for quite a while (all the others seemed to just be standard upgrades - RAM, CPU, the works)
Then I saw the One, and the dual speakers, new camera tech and general design made me hooked immediately (Also, the IR Blaster was a nice touch)

I really like my One because:
- fantastic music production, on headphones and using the speakers
- fast UI, especially the use of folders
- build quality, feels and looks expensive
- screen clarity makes me use this device moew than any other I have owned
- good value, in the UK it comes with free cases OR headphones OR media link etc
I don't have mine yet. But I'm sure the one thing I'm going to like most about it will be the updates to Sense 5. As far as hardware goes, the whole thing is a monster. Extreme internals along with a strong outer shell.
I love this phone, I haven't been so happy with a phone since my old Galaxy S2, which was actually my first android phone. The hardware is superb, with probably the best design of any phone so far. It is nicely weighted, and doesn't feel cheap, yet it doesn't feel like lead in my pockets. The screen is a nice size and the PPI is fantastic, with extremely sharp text. A way it is improved from my Nexus 4 is that while they are both 4.7", the HTC One screen is slightly taller and less wide, which means more can fit vertically on the screen. The touch buttons are responsive and the screen lacks the stupid wide bezel seen on the iPhone 5. The back is curved nicely and many people have commented on how thin the phone is due to the thinness of the sides, not realising that actually the phone is thicker than others out there at the back. The speakers on the HTC are amazingly loud and clear, and wipe the floor with any other phone I have put them against. When Beats mode is turned off, they deteriorate badly, and I think HTC has done this on purpose to advertise the Beats brand as offering superior sound. The camera seems really good to me, and easily beats my Nexus 4 in ANY situation, with especially fantastic low light performance, and the macro detail is second to none. Landscapes and buildings don't fare so well though and more detail can be found in other phones with more megapixels, which do make a difference at range.
I like how the notification LED is nestled invisibly inside the speaker grill, and it flashes fast enough to be spotted well. I have only seen it light up red and green and don't think it is multicoloured. The software on the phone is elegant and much simpler than previous versions of Sense which I have seen running on the One X. The animations are fast, which helps make the phone even quicker than it is. The shutter lag on the camera is non-existant and photos are taken as soon as the button is pressed. The music player is excellent, and automatically downloads album photos, as well as a nice visualiser with automatic stylised lyrics. I love HTC Zoe, and have entertained many people with some of its creations. Call quality is good. Battery life seems amazing for me so far, I get 0%-1% drain when I sleep at night, and currently my phone is on 90% after 6 hours off charge and 1 hour screen on time. The phone seems to get warm when the screen is on max brightness, although this doesn't affect anything and it may just be my device. Overall, I think this phone is amazing and would easily recommend it over the Galaxy S4 due to the amazing build quality (a few people actually asked me what phone I had when out and about taking photos) and useful software which doesn't seem bloated at all and actually contains features I actually use on a daily basis. I got this phone for £489.99 which I think is a fantastic price.
I like the screen and form factor, smaller than the Xperia Z, and with a better screen...
Makes me sad that I've got both the Z and the M7, I think the only thing the Z will be good for is ripping blu-rays onto it for my commute (that SD card slot is sorely missed on the M7)
Build quality. It's about time someone makes build quality better than Apple or even just on par with them..
I'm waiting for mine, so I don't have one yet, but this is what I fell for:
- The beautiful design, especially on the silvery one
- Blinkfeed (sure that I will love it)
- Sense 5 (like very much the look of it)
- The display (seems very clear)
- That it has a FM radio
- That it has good sound quality
- Zoe (it will be fun to try that)

Personally though, I'll be waiting for the Nexus 5 despite how nice the S4 and HTC One are.
The main reasons I am going for the HTC One instead of the Z/S4 are:
- It's design and build quality especially
- The front facing, dual speakers (boomsound)
- 1080p SLCD3 display
- Perfect performance (S600 chipset)
- UltraPixel camera (yes, after everything I have read/seen, I am very curious to use it myself)
It's just a very, very nice overall package. The fantastic reviews also help. I have seen websites (like pocketnow and technobuffalo) give their highest scores ever to a smartphone. After listning to some podcasts from Pocketnow I also understand why. It's just a joy too use, and since I have seen multiple websites say this, I believe them.
On the other hand, my choice to go for the One is also made simpler by the alternatives. I had the Xperia Z: it looks good, but it's a pain to use ergonomicly. The GS4 looks like my GS3, so no "wow" looks, but ergonomicly it's nice. The One brings both good looks, fantastic build quality and an ergonomic design.
Then there are the "last year" - specs for the Z (S4 Pro chipset) and the pretty washed out screen. The GS4 has the best specs, but it's only a tiny bit better then the One. And the much better looking and feeling design of the One is worth so much more.

So, mine arrives tomorrow - I bought before ever seeing one in the flesh just on the design! (currently on Nexus4) but I played with my my sisters new HTC One today.
I have a Macbook Pro and Imac that I use for business and home. The One looks STUNNING alongside these products. It fits in better with my unibody mac more than an Iphone ever would! The build, design, in your hand is AMAZING before I even turned the screen on I was sold.
Turn the screen on... Sold again. WOW clarity, colours, its amazingly sharp.
Camera - Super fast, Super good.
General performance is super snappy, I was planning on rooting and putting stock straight on, now I wont.
Speakers - Best I have ever heard on a mobile device of its size and thickness.
My Beats Mixr headphones sound even better than through my Nexus4.
HTC One = WIN - very premium

In-call sound quality very good too
Reliable and quick GPS
Speed and smoothness in transition across screens and in browsing
Sharp, bright screen - unrivalled ppi ratio
Blinkfeed integrated feed - quicker to access than Flipboard and includes calendar/agenda
Build quality is very good
Battery can last a day without issue (though my z10 and note 2 do a bit more)

Pocketnow tested the charging time, because they thought the Snapdragon 600 chipset supported Quickcharge 2.0 (which would cut charging times up to 75%). They said it was an avarage 2 hours to go from 0 to 100% though. I did some research and I think only the S800 chipset will support this Quickcharge 2.0 technology.
Sadly.. it would have been great to go from 0 to 100% in 30-45 minutes
AW: Things I like most about HTC One are...
3 hours and via USB about 4h. Thats slow, but battery life is good enough.

Trade it to try more and more. I think you will trade back to Note 5.
V10: not good battery life, too tall, thicker screen edge/bezel, much weaker performance, bulkier because of square corner + tall, 2nd screen not really usefull like S Pen
I also believe V10 has good screen, camera and durable

I have both. Very different devices. Only thing alike are size, OS and camera
V10 has a weaker processor and gpu, however has much better memory management.
It took me a few days to get used to back buttons
I received my 200GB microsd card and extra battery
Cameras are alike, however v10 is not as "fast" as the GN5, both launching camera and seconds to snap, but has much better features and options in pro mode both in camera (30 seconds shutter) and video. Video recording on the v10 is what Samsung will move to next flagship. Is so far more sophisticated than anything you've seen. Being able to select bit rate, microphone adjustment forwards and back, it's just really good. Also awesome ois on camera and video on v10 but again, you can't snap snap snap snap like you can on gn5. I'm not talking about holding shutter down, either. That you can do. But the focus isn't as fast or. .. something.
I use both for different reasons. I love the spen and amoled screen, but have taken phenomenal night pictures with 8,15,30 second shutter specs in total darkness on the lake with tripod with the v10.
In the hands you can get away with no case with the V10, GN5 no way. Too slippery. The rubber grippy back of the v10 makes me feel secure enough not to need a TPU.
Second screen has its uses, and lots of shortcuts to apps, much like the galaxy edge+. I find the second screen helpful, but too low brightness in the dark. A tad higher, or someway to control it would have been a homerun.
As I said, different devices entirely if you are a Spen user. My biggest complaint other than no notification light (but second screen) is the screen cannot be seen well with polarized sunglasses very well. I did a trip using navigation and needed screen at 100% and still could only see it at certain angles on the v10.
It is very speedy if you haven't used note 5 before, somehow the 4GB ram is awesome on v10. Both are 5.1.1. Even though it's "only" 808 is pretty fast but you will notice slight slowdown on browser. Definitely worse gpu but I was able to play MC5 just fine on it. TEA_SWAT4
Ps there does seem to be a battery drain bug whether it's 5.1.1 or something else but something is keeping wake lock on all night for me for v10. .. might be iheartradio with location requests, probably a bug though. Hopefully will be addressed in marshmallow and with doze.
I forgot one of the most special things on the v10. Audio quality is superb with CORDED headphones. The 32bit DAC is so insane. Not artificial like the note5, it has its own special processor. It's really nice. I moved from Bluetooth in the car to wired for music playing. Sounds great both in ear and in car.
I traded in my white note 5 32gb for the v10.. I feel like it was a great device. Felt comfortable to walk around without a case. Audio quality was good via speaker and even better in headphone.the camera was awesome with manual modes and quality . plus the 4gb if ram and only comes with 64gb of memory without paying additional money down . the secondary screen was not as gimmicky as i thought it would be{looking at you edge plus lol}( found the secondary it to be useful when multitasking on the ui) and it was a tad cheaper then the Samsung Galaxy note5/edge plus , the removables were nice but not a highlight for me... With that said why i exchanged it for a note 5 64gb gold platinum was because a) its gorgeous, how could you not lol. B) lg ux was driving me up the wall with its here and there and everywhere options and meh features c) i didnt like how a case effected its fingerprint usability d)its call quality was a mess e)battery life was a guessing game. f) i have had a amoled screen too long so the screen bleed bothered me more so it was just a itch i tried to scratch

Do you own high impedance headphones at all? I'm on the fence about this phone. I love the AMOLED screen and I actually use Samsung Pay. Does the DAC sound better than the Wolfson DAC in the n5? I keep going back and forth about trading in the n5 for the v10, but I just can't make a decision.

In my opinion, I want ( and bought ) a USB/OTG Dac for music. Something like D-Zero MkII for mobility. I don't want to pay some prices to get a phone not good enough, not fit my need.
Check out the v10 at your local mobile store. I have Samsung On corded over the ear headphones. Be aware that I'm not an audiophile, but I think the v10 sounds better. Flac sounds great. But take a song to your local store with your headphones and transfer it to the v10, then play it. Make sure the HiFi is on which can be found in the drop down settings. Also check out the v10 forums on xda, you'll see that hifi can't be used in every application but some people have been able to enable it using developers options.
V10 audio is probably would be better than Note 5, audio on note 5 is amazing as it is, i had the G4 before, in which the audio was totally crap.
I saw the v10, played wth it a bit, as i had G4 i knew exactly the "secrets" of the device, it has the best camera no doubt about that, specially in the night... but in all others parameters outside of sound, the Note 5 is much much better.
The quality of screen, touchwiz is better than LG UI(can't believe i'm saying this), gpu and mainly cpu speed is light years ahead of G4(test performed by running intensive emulator, PPSSPP and playing tekken 6, g4 did very bad, note 5 perfected it), memory management should be improved, can be resolved by custom kernel,external speaker slightly better,s-pen is very useful more than second screen, battery last longer.
Extra and minus point for V10 is build quality, it does not need a case but on other hand it's way too bulky for some.

Cameras are alike, however v10 is not as "fast" as the GN5, both launching camera and seconds to snap, but has much better features and options in pro mode both in camera (30 seconds shutter) and video. Video recording on the v10 is what Samsung will move to next flagship. Is so far more sophisticated than anything you've seen. Being able to select bit rate, microphone adjustment forwards and back, it's just really good. Also awesome ois on camera and video on v10 but again, you can't snap snap snap snap like you can on gn5. I'm not talking about holding shutter down, either. That you can do. I use both for different reasons. I love the spen and amoled screen, but have taken phenomenal night pictures with 8,15,30 second shutter specs in total darkness on the lake with tripod with the v10.
In the hands you can get away with no case with the V10, GN5 no way. Too slippery. The rubber grippy back of the v10 makes me feel secure enough not to need a TPU.
Second screen has its uses, and lots of shortcuts to apps, much like the galaxy edge+. I find the second screen helpful, but too low brightness in the dark. A tad higher, or someway to control it would have been a homerun.
As I said, different devices entirely if you are a Spen user. My biggest complaint other than no notification light (but second screen) is the screen cannot be seen well with polarized sunglasses very well. I did a trip using navigation and needed screen at 100% and still could only see it at certain angles on the v10.
It is very speedy if you haven't used note 5 before, somehow the 4GB ram is awesome on v10. Both are 5.1.1. Even though it's "only" 808 is pretty fast but you will notice slight slowdown on browser. Definitely worse gpu but I was able to play MC5 just fine on it. TEA_SWAT4
Ps there does seem to be a battery drain bug whether it's 5.1.1 or something else but something is keeping wake lock on all night for me for v10. .. might be iheartradio with location requests, probably a bug though. Hopefully will be addressed in marshmallow and with doze.
I forgot one of the most special things on the v10. Audio quality is superb with CORDED headphones. The 32bit DAC is so insane. Not artificial like the note5, it has its own special processor. It's really nice. I moved from Bluetooth in the car to wired for music playing. Sounds great both in ear and in car.

Totally agree here.
V10 battery life appears to be bad. Not too much difference between it and the G4 except that the V10 does not suffer from touchscreen issues like the G4 does.

How did you get around the storage issue? 64GB is nice, but with no expansion, you're quite limited. Not to mention if you have the 32GB version like me.

I have to disagree with some that has been said.
If I'm not mistaken, both G4 and V10 have snapdragon 808. However big difference, and I do mean big difference, is the RAM. Similar to SGS6 vs Note5. The 4GB RAM just screams in Note5 compared to SGS6 stock, the 4GB RAM in the V10 screams in comparison to the G4.
There hasn't been a game I can't run on either phone. I'm not into emulators and both phones are stock. That said the GN5 does have the game tuner which v10 does not.
GPU is definitely the bottleneck of device for V10, but that's because every 808 I've seen it's paired with adreno 418 which is, if I recall, half the Speed of the adreno 420 found in the galaxy note 4...
Memory management on the v10 is fine in my mind. Camera as I have stated its very good but not as fast. More options.
I have been ruined by Samsung's super AMOLED screens. There really is nothing like them. But competition is good.

As for storage on note 5, I use this. Keychain adapter. Works awesome
I have had the note 5 since it came out. I dont have any complaints. Moved everything to the cloud, so 64gb is enough for me. I do keep a charger and 10000mah portable charger with me in a bag if I travel and find myself plugging in the note 5 whenever I can, just to be safe.
I recently bought the v10 to give it a go, primarily to see if the camera really is that good. Here are my thoughts:
Screen: not as bright as the note 5 but side by side the whites look better on the v10 (like an old white t shirt next to a new one) and I think it's a little sharper. I switched my n5 to basic mode on display and that looks more normal.
But, the n5 auto brightness is much better IMHO, especially on maps at night.
Speed. About the same. No real world difference for me
Size: n5 smaller but it needs a case so its not much different. I find the n5 easier to hold.
Battery: both aren't getting me through a day. Just as bad for me.
Sound: both are fine. Speakerphones are fine on both.
Software: I run Nova so the only thing I feel different is that I think stock LG email is better but stock Samsung Calendar is better.
Camera. Well this surprised me... I used both side by side, indoors and out, auto and manual... And generally didn't see much difference! Perhaps I am a crap photographer? Since I moved to the cloud, I can view each devices pictures on the other. I found it very hard to distinguish one from the other. I don't do much video so no comment there, but I will say that for point and shoot, the n5 is just easier.
Second screen. Silly for me. Would have rather the device be shorter.
It drove me mad having 2 devices by the way. One minute i wanted to use one, the next minute the other (like changing cases, but more.complicated). In the end I returned the v10. As with every time I do this, my Samsung devices best out the LG devices for me. Loved the v10, but just feel more 'at one' with the note 5.
LG and their color mismatch issue still!

Can anybody compare the audio quality of Note5 and LG V10? They're talking about the performance of the V10's DAC using different media players at their sub-forum. Does the Note5 have similar capability?

Hard to compare without having to two Devices side by side, but from what I've read here and in other places, the dac in the v10 is better than the one in the note 5. The amp is also better from what I've read. But does the note 5 have a bad dac? Nope. I finally have a phone that sounds as good as an iPhone headphone wise, if not, better. And if I play anything other than high quality files, I can tell right away (spotify @192kbps vs 300kbps aac)

another CPU than the 810.
I think LGs software is better. But especially the size turned me off - it was too big for my taste.
