[Q] Help!! no blue LED while bootup even with debugging off - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi friends,
i got my defy few days ago and i m loving it ..so i decided to install CM7 on it..
i have installed 2nd int 1.4.2 and system recovery on it..but i dont get blue LED during booting ..i checked tat my usb debugging is off..
any kind of help would be appreciated
one more thing..is CM7 beta 6 stable? is it good to use to for day to day work?
Thank you

once, I isntalled 2nd init and experienced same issue. All I did was to re install and then all was well! CM7 beta 6 IMHO is very stable and completely suitable for daily use. I hope this helps
EDIT: I re-read your post and had a thought. It sounds like you installed system recovery after you installed 2nd init. This will break 2nd init. There is no need to install system recovery after 2nd init as it is included with 2nd init. In fact when you install 2nd init it will remove all previous versions of custom recovery you have installed

hi thanks for replying..
well i installed 2nd int in the end. i had installed v1.7...but as CM7 needs v1.4 i reinstalled it..
so to solve this prob shall i uninstall system recovery and leave 2nd int as it is? or is dere any other solution?
Thank you

[Q] Can't install ROM's on Wildfire, please help

Hey Guy's could somebody give me some advice here as i'm well and truly stuck with adding ROM's to my wildfire. . .
Right i'll try break this down as easy as i can, i bought my wildfire 3 days ago, and its running 2.2.1, i watched one of the latest video tutorials on how to root using Unrevoked (which i now know doesnt work), I installed HTC Sync to get the drivers, then uninstalled it. I then Added the modded Android USB Drivers. Run Alpharex to change my Hboot, and set to S-Off, Then tried running the latest version of Unrevoked, i got the dreaded "Is your firmware to new" message. . . I've always got debugging mode running and allow 3rd party apps!
I then mentioned this to somebody who told me of a different way around rooting my device so . . .
I then downloaded Gingerbreak.apk, then i got Astro off the Market and run Gingerbreak, my phone restarted and WAYHEY I've now got superuser access!
I got ROM Manager off the Market, then i downloaded Clockwork recovery mod 2.5.0.7, CM 7.03, Gapps 20110115, formatted my SD to fat32, put the zips directy onto the root of the SD card. . .
I made a flash recovery, go to install ROM from SD, phone restarts then i get the "Red Exclamation mark triangle"??? i've tried two different SIGNED versions of CM with no luck with either. I've tried running the Anonimo ROM and yet again i get the same red exclamation mark. . .
I've manually tried running recovery from hboot and yet again i get the same problem. . . .
I'm not doing nothing wrong here am i? As ive watched/read/researched dozens of how to's and followed every step exactly as it says!
I will be watching this post constantly as i'm itching to get rid of this nasty FROYO.
Thank you for your time.
I just had to reboot into recovery from hboot menù and selected the zip I put there before (SD root)... If you're trying to istall cm then you don't need to use Rom manager, u can use the usual recovery.
I just tried to istall the latest CM Nightly Builds and 7.1.0 release candidate, I dind't have problems!
EDIT :
Oh dude, it seems you don't have recovery istalled, just follow this tips :
Put the file attached into root of your sd card, then power down your phone, and boot into hboot menu.
let the phone check for a "PC49IMG.zip" file and then press volume up.
after that remove the "PC49IMG.zip" from your sd card and put the rom you want to istall always into root of your sd card, then just istall the rom from there!
Install Clockworkmod Recovery on your NAND Memory. There are 2 ways to achieve this:
1) Using Fastboot: (My preferred method)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
2) PC49IMG
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
If you face issues using the Fastboot technique (I haven't tried the other one), let me know, I'll help you sort it out.
WOW!!!!! It's actually doing it!!! You've both got a thanks vote off me but one thing now (sorry) . . . . ive rebooted my phone and its shown up the blue cyogen mod 7 screen with the blue circle, and it spins round a few times then shows the droid on the skateboard again and starts spinning again, its been doing this for way over 10 minutes now, is there something missing? do i have to boot Gapps from recovery off my sd card before i restart?

No, Its not necessary to flash GApps beforehand. What you are getting is a bootloop.
Reflash Cyanogenmod, but, before doing that, make sure you do a wipe. (Factory Reset / Data Wipe Option in Clockworkmod). Also make sure you wipe cache, dalvik cache (Under advanced), and format /system partition (Also under advanced)
After clearing all this, then reflash the CM Zip file and try again.
Thank you kind sir i did these exact steps just after i wrote my last post and i'm now VERY HAPPILY running 2.3.4
Only problem i've come across so far is the vibrate option for calls/texts in any status (silent etc) doesnt work whats a bit of a shame, but with the improvement in my handset i won't complain!
I could get used to this android business

[Q] Defy won't go past the boot logo

Good day everyone! I would like to ask for some help if it wouldn't bother.
I previously have WajkIUI 1.10.21 installed on my 2nd init. I have installed the Multiboot plugin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364659) and installed the CM9 12-2-2012 build on 2nd boot.
However when I updated the 2nd boot to CM9 12-11-2012 build, the 2nd boot stays stuck on the red M logo. Because of that, I installed the "kernel" on 2nd boot which was supposed to boot the build. Unfortunately, it only resulted to a boot loop for my CM9.
When I tried to boot from 2nd init (which still has my WajkIUI), it suddenly stopped booting as well. I tried to recover using my recovery file but to no avail, 2nd init still won't boot.
So my phone's condition now is: it is able to run CWM recovery on both 2nd boot and 2nd init. Will I still be able to boot my 2nd init? Will I still be able to restore to my latest recovery file? If yes, can anyone guide me on how to fix my 2nd init boot?
Thank you very much everyone!
I think its mentioned in the defy cm9 thread.
Its not possible to flash any newer version including 111207 in second Boot.
i think i made the same mistake too...
but i dont know wether i had to reinstal primary boot...
you could try to flash miui on primary boot so that you can do atleast anything...
if you want cm9:
wipe everything
instal cm9 111207.zip
instal cm9 111213.zip
im using cm9 and everything is great, except camera, wich in fact isnt working at all
hope it helped, greetz esok

Thanks! Now I'm running the Dec13 build
I guess it's about the kernel which messed up. Motorola is so *** for locking the bootloader.
Anyway, thanks again! I'll try to install multi boot again and install Wajkiui on 2ndboot )

Think this doesn't work either, because of the Kernelchange
but maybe you could post the result of this test.

Yes, apparently installing a 2.2 based rom on the virtual system doesn't work (won't get past the M logo again) even when I apply the 2.2 kernel on the virtual system.
So I guess we're stuck on manually choosing our main rom. I also have my data on my older rom (not to mention, app highscores, etc) and I miss my defy's camera, but the ICS rom is so hard to resist.

titanium backup works, so maybe as a tip for you:
install old rom,
make backup,
install ics,
restore backup,
some data may be back
Yes, I tried that before but for some reason, during restore, Ti force closes on my ICS.
Anyway, I'm fine without my old data for now Thanks Esok

try removing the battery. then put it back in and power up. see if it boots up. depending on which cm7 rom you were using, there's a known "stuck in boot" problem and removing battery method will overcome it.
^ Yes, try removing the battery and restarting the phone. One other solution could be applying the 2.2 Kernel after the installation of CM7 (only if you are using Defy and the base ROM of CM7 is 2.2) because I tried installing a CM7 nightly and had to apply the kernel
Kernal
I have a Defy I tried flashing to a few different versions of CM7, but it keeps stopping on the boot logo. I tried flashing from stock, so do I have to change my kernal? If so, how?

are you saying you were still on stock rom and you tried to install cm7? what was your stock rom and have you flashed any full sbf? what were the steps you did to install cm7?
Yeah, I was running the stock 2.2 and tried installing CM7.
I rooted my phone, then installed 2ndinit boot loader. Wiped caches/factory reset and used CWM to install from a .zip file on the SD card.
No idea how to set up RSDLite..
to install CM7 follow the steps in this faq :

so far so good. could be the rom you were flashing. were you trying to flash the nightlies by any chance? all the latest nightlies do not come with the kernel. you either have to flash the stable release first, or the cm7-kernel-signed.zip, inorder to have the correct kernel before you can flash the nightlies.
do not flash any full gb sbf or you can get yourself in trouble.

[Q] Installing CM7 on Defy+

Hello dear xda community.
I own a Defy+ with 2.3.6 stock Kernel and want to switch to CM7. (Do I need another Kernel?)
Which build do you prefer, I can't decide between:
7.1.0-11
Quarks nightly
Epsylon3s nightly
maniacs nightly
Basically I'm just looking for a stable AOSP/blurfree ROM, so which one is the stablest up to now?
Which of the mentioned ROMS need/work with the battery/camera patches and are there different versions of these patches around? (here and here)
Am I right that there should be no more problems than battery and camera functionality up to now?
Thank you in advance
Edit: Another question I forgot:
In the title of the 7.1.0-11 it is written "Android 2.3.7". So does this mean even though the zip doesn't contain a Kernel it does contain 2.3.7? I couldn't find a 2.3.7 kernel for the Defy+ elsewhere.
Edit 2: I found an answer concerning whether to use 7.1.0-11:
The latest nightlys are stable, don't use 7.1.0-11

Though thats a tough statement whenever it comes to nightlys, I assume I will trust him here.
Like I wrote to you (by PM) before, I don't own a Defy+, but I'd say go on and try the latest Defy+ nightly which is from Quarx at this time: cm72-20120308-NIGHTLY-Defy+.zip md5 checksum: 8df5562b60ded2978a38eb9ac21bdc8e .
Make a nandroid backup of your system (custom recovery / advance / backup&restore / backup all) before installing it and then see how it goes from there...
If it really doesn't boot up, you have problems with battery not fully charging, camera or other things, you can find solutions or ask again - but at least you'll have a nand to fall back on... so no risk involved.
I haven't tried that specific March 8th Defy+ nightly yet, but I bet that it is probably at 1 or 2 small fixes close to perfection and you won't regret installing it I assure you.
Just be patient at first boot and wait a good 5-6 minutes before thinking being in a bootloop and do anything crazy..
God luck.
I tried cm72-20120308-NIGHTLY-Defy+.

Hi AL
i reinstalled it and now wifi is working..
But the problem now is battery..
It drains off quickly.
Also i used get atleast 50% signal at my home..
but now with this, its not catching the signal at all..
Its fine at places where full signal is there..
Let me recommend CM7 WhiteRabbit Edition 1.3! Pure awesomeness + Aroma touch based installer. This means you can customize your installation (e.g. defy+ battery fix, what apps you want installed, witch wifi driver, etc)!!
Install the PLUS edition for gingerbread kernel!

Please, guys, stop the confusion. Both of those are Froyo only.
@athenus Have you managed to flash any ROM? From those you have mentioned...
CM7.1 - Froyo only
maniac's builds - Froyo only
Epsylon's builds - there are both Froyo and Gingerbread available
Quarx's builds - both Froyo and Gingerbread available <- this should be your choice. The latest Quarx's builds is awesome and you can find it here - http://quarx2k.ru/cm7-nightly-defy+/
P.S. Quarx is currently the only developer that actually owns a DEFY+.
If you are confused still, feel free to PM me, as I can't keep with all the threads I've posted in

I might be wrong, but the problems you have described having make me believe that you did not use and set the Defy Baseband Switcher app properly. Am I right/wrong?
Phone carriers around the world do not all use the same radio frequencies to receive/transmit phone signal and after any first install of cm7, you have to use that included app, give it root access, select the baseband that correspond to your location/carrier and reboot. Failing to do so causes bad signal eception, high battery drain and hot phones...
I hope that it was your problem because it will make it very simple to solve for you then.
EDIT: I believe that the baseband can now simply be changed under: Device settings/Baseband selection - no more dedicated app...
Installation failure of CM7 latest Joudan-plus
I hope someone can help me please . . .
Having rooted the phone successfully, and having followed all the relevant instructions (including installing first the various utilities - Titanium, 2ndInit, etc), to upgrade my Defy+ Build 4.5.1-134_DFP-231 with the latest CM7, I copied the CM7 zip to my Defy+ then installed it using 2ndInit - success.
Then, on the reboot, the phone just hangs at the M logo.
After doing the normal recovery, and trying to install again, these messages appear:
Verifying update package
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Can anyone suggest what I should do next to recover the situation?

All three resulted in the 'signature' problem. But the filename of all three files said they were "signed".
So can someone please explain . . . ?

[Q] No blue light after 2ndinit

Hello,
I was running CM7.2 but had an issue so I flashed back to the stock rom. Now I'm trying to flash a new custom rom but for some reason 2ndinit is not working.
I rooted and installed the recovery menu from 2ndinit, but I am not seeing a blue light on bootup.
The phone boots into the stock rom just fine, but I cannot get into the recovery menu.
Any help?
Problem
Cannot access ClockworkMod Recovery menu after installing 2ndInit
What I've tried
Wiped SD
Wiped Data
Reflashed JORDN_U3_6.36.0
Rooted
Installed 2ndinit 2.3
Still no luck, upon boot there is no LED. If I hold the down volume for the entire boot I am met with an android exclamation mark.
Update...
I was able to access an old version of CWM v2.5 using 2ndinit 2.0.
But that brings with it a new set of problems. When trying to access the SD card from CWM, it cannot mount it.
Using ADB and the commands in this forum (forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/33179-problems-installing-71-recovery-cant-mount-sdcard/) I was able to mount the SD and install CM7.2.
Now I am having GPS and 3g connectivity issues with CM7.2 that I've never had before. It makes me wonder if that hack way of mounting the SD messed up the installation?
I am using the US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107-9 baseband.

Hi there. Any luck getting this to work, as i have the same issue.
I rooted the phone, then installed 2ndInit and when i reboot it has no blue light. When i run the Defy 2mdInit in android it lights up red, then goes green, so appears to be doing all right stuff.
A silly question but one i cant find a answer too, is how to reboot! Im holding down the power button, then selecting power off. Once off i power on again, now technically thats a cold restart. Is there a different method to rebooting/restarting once the green light is on?
Many thanks.

If you just want to install a custom rom, like cm7 then you don't need to go through that process. You could try this method instead http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787541
Please note: This method does not work for BL7 bootloader.

Im completely new to all this, and this will be the first phone i mod. All i would like to do is install CM 10.2 (Android 4.3) and overclock to 1.0Ghz.
I know the Kernel needs to be changed to overclocking from what i read, so if i do the ROM update via this method, is there a option to overclock then too?
Is there a known issie with 2ndInit not doing the blue light on a reboot?
Many thanks.

First of all, do you have a defy or defy+? Because some methods dont work for defy+
Then you should probably read this if you new to flashing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
I also suggest going from stock to cm7 and then cm10.2
Cm10.2 is overclocked to 1ghz by default. You dont have to do anything

Hi again.
I have a Defy with no moto blur and a red lens.
I have read a lot about flashing, and downloaded all the files i needed, rooted the phone then first problem came getting 2ndInit. I was having issues with the phone resetting when connected via usb so got the SndInitDefy_2.3.apk which runs fine, goes through all the steps, red light becomes a green light and says success. But then when i reboot it never shows the blue light.
Also a lot of these guides are Windows based and i dont use Windows i use Linux.
What are the benifits of going to CM10.2 via CM7, is there a reason for this?
Am i rebooting the correct way by doing a shut down then starting the phone again? Is there no way to do a hot reboot rather than a cold reboot?
Thanks again for your replies.
I don't know what went wrong, you should have been able to see the blue led. But, it's much easier to recover by flashing the easy recovery sbf. Then reboot to recovery and flash cm7. I say flash cm7 because the new cm10.2 has a newer version of update-binary so it wont flash successfully.
You need cm7 just for the CWM and bootmenu, from there you can flash cm10.2
You can use this method to flash sbf using linux http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076138

Hi.
I seem to be having more success now, i got SndInit1.4.apk and now it gives the blue light and im in the BootMenu!
So maybe the new version has some issues!
---------- Post added at 05:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:01 PM ----------
Well im now ablle to at least get the bootmenu, however everything is there but it wont mount my sd card. Its shows the following..
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.8
E:Can't mount /dev/blocl/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/blocl/mmnblk0)
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /sdcard
Any ideas what is causing this problem?
I did try with another SD card, tried a smaller one thinking its a size issue, then formatted it too and same error message comes up.
Hope im giving enough info, but thats all i can see. Thanks again.

So, I'm guessing you flashed froyo, root and then sndinit? Did you try the easy recovery method?
While I've had similar issue before, I would just assume it was some bad flash and start over. Never wondered why it would happen. It is quite a pain. But most importantly, make sure the battery doesn't go low otherwise it wont allow you to flash.
Usually all such problems go away if you return to stock and try again
Here's what I usually do: Flash froyo stock + super one click to root + 2ndinitdefy2.0apk (It has the new version of CWM). Then flash cm7
OR
Flash froyo stock + easy recovery sbf. Then flash cm7 from stock recovery
Hope this works
Your link to everything about the Defy was very helpful and informative.
Im still on Eclair which seems like that might be the problem, so i guess i need to get Windows...i do have a old Windows XP so will find that old hard drive and boot into that then try the SDlite app and try install a stock 2.2 rom.
At the moment it has a French rom, in English though, so will try find a 2.2 French rom sbf. I think the issue might be 2.1 not being able to use the SD card like 2.2 and up does. Also 2ndInit v2.3 does not work, any other lower version does work, but gives a sd card error.
So my bext question, where do i get a standard 2.2 french rom? There is a link on here, but its the Orange version, not sure if that will be ok.
All i did was root, then 2ndInit. Rooting was a knightmare, eventually used the Motorola1Click Root and that worked, nothing else worked.
Thanks for all your help, knowing all the technical stuff is one thing, knowing all the orders, files and so on is another.
