CEO confirms Evo 3d will be unlocked - EVO 4G General

cant post the link but the news is on android police

how could it be since the phone are ready to ship? wouldn't this delay the launch? the more acceptable thing to do would be to give the devs instructions or fix it via an OTA.

Man. I can't express enough how happy I am with HTC. If this decision holds, and it looks likely, I doubt I'll ever buy another brand. I love Sense but, I love being able to customize and personalize Sense ...
MAJOR Kudos to HTC!

Always been an htc fan since the htc touch vogue. All this just shows they're a customer first company. Bout the only one I can actually think of. Hell you cant even get a burger and fries anymore without running into company haggles.

shouldn't this be in the 3D forum? besides, they knew from the beginning what they were going to do. They probably just wanted to see how many people actually cared, and they got more publicity from you clowns who are now singing their praises

Ahh a hole in the conspiracy theory. Is Lloyd hiding in the grassy knoll?
Seriously, you guys can be upset with HTC but, they could have gave some generic reason as to why they are locking their phones and eventually things would have died down. They wouldn't have really suffered from it.
Instead, they went in the other direction. I give them credit for that. All this does is keep me as a customer.

Setting a nice precedent here!

HTC CEO Confirms EVO 3D Will Have An Unlocked Bootloader One Way Or Another
Personally, I'm glad to hear it straight from him. Yeah, it will likely be an OTA, or an unlock tool, but this news reaffirmed my intentions to buy an E3D...which were shaky still even after the announcement yesterday.

Yes, sir. Absolutely. This means devs will be able to cook roms, kernels and any other goodies we are enjoying on the current Evo......and more.

Evo will get a update second quarter soon confirmed from HTC also they said they will post a list of phones that will not be locked. Some still are.

Samsung Moment gets 2.1 official???

I just read as I googled "Sprint 2.1 update" I get all kinds of, Sprint releases Moment update 2.1, I thought we were getting the "official bits" first?
Why is it I always pick the phone that takes forever to get anything done on, lol...
Thank God for XDA!

Im aware this is the HTC Hero thread, and I dont care about the moment, other than that fact that it seemed, and Im correcting myself I did not see anything that was officially stating that it was official, I was mearly stating that everything I saw, was saying that Hero would get the bits first, then moment,.

All I can say is that it's about damn time. I've been loving 2.1 on my hero for the last couple weeks while my wife's moment has been crying itself to sleep. Looks like they've already rooted it over at SDX, so I'm gonna probably flash that whenever I get home from work.
Of course, what would be *really* nice is if Sprint put out something official for a change.

Has sprint ever officially done anything
This is crazy...
Just for you narrow-minded people...
Just because it is not "officially" released on your schedule, doesn't mean anything negative to a company...
Just look at Verizon and the Storm 1.. People kept hounding and hounding Verizon for updates for the phone, but when the update wasn't what they expected, go crazy that they should have done better QA...
It is Sprint's responsibility to make sure all issues are addressed and taken care of... Do you have any idea how many thousands of issues are brought in the testing phase???
Do you know how hard it would be to guarantee a million phones for retail, from a single demo(test) device??
Have a just a tiny bit of understanding and stop complaining....

They release software that has no business being in the market place, only to patch it every tuesday when admins like me all over the world find bugs and exploits, and errors and problems. Just release the damn thing, and do incrementals as needed. Take the M$ route and get us what we want!

I would take that with a grain of salt, if I had a dime for every article I saw that had a date in it, I'd have enough money to buy Google and get 2.1
It'll be out whenever Sprint is ready. It doesn't help that they are dragging their feet, most likely for their proprietary apps. I'm not holding my breath.

Samsungs Evolution begins 2/13.

So Samsung's bragging again that it's going to introduce a "evolution" and in the picture its the Galaxy S and then a white blog signifying it's "masterpiece" that it hopes to unveil on Feb. 13. Speculation seems to point at it's possibly them actually showing off the Vibrant 4G or another device.
The only "evolution" that Samsung could introduce, is the one where they support their devices instead of tossing new ones out there.
Take a read,

no but seriously....im really into modding phones, and any device-specific forum ive ever been on has been full of people complaining about the same things. I just dont know why everyone doesnt just accept the system for what it is. And ALSO that the system is definitely out of Samsungs hands....but if they want to survive as a company, they have to keep up with that system.
I understand they can't just release a phone and wait 2 years to release another one. But ( I guess I cut the ending short) they need to work on supporting what they have out now along side what they push out in the future. It's sad that the cell phone business has taken on Apples take of things. Make a new device, sells millions. A year later push out the same phone but with "enhancements" and newer things. Wait another year and do the same thing, and then drop support for the original after the 2nd one comes out..

Lack of updates, lack of device support, lack of customer loyalty, unkept promises, hardware/software issues, blahblahblahhhhHHHhHHhHHHhhhHH
Nowadays, smartphones are outdated/obsolete within 6months of their release. Yes, indeed, its a monster that the manufacturers have created for themselves, and theres no way they can keep up with their competition while also keeping every single one of you crying babies happy. Yes, its an ugly industry, and it isnt fair. BUT ITS THE WAY IT IS.
*****, moan, *****, moan, *****, moan alllllll you want. File your class action lawsuits, spam their customer service lines, create facebook pages and twitter accounts, start petitions. do you think its going to change ANYTHING?? do you think its just THAT easy? you guys just sound so damn pathetic with all of your bellyaching.
Youre on a forum that is meant for modding your device, and making it better than the way it came out of the box, yet you are complaining that they wont do it for you. Then why are you guys even here??? No device is perfect. And when the day comes that they do release a perfect device, they will release an even more perfect device shortly after....thus making the prior one not perfect, and people *****ing for updates on their old ones to make it as good as the new one. Round-and-round we go.
Consumers will NEVER be happy, and you guys are proving that. Do some research before buying a damn phone next time. Dont buy it right when its released just because its the hottest thing, and having the phone that is on all the commercials gives you a sense of purpose. Maybe next time wait a couple months, come onto XDA, and see if the children are whining about the damn GPS. That would be a tell-tale warning, wouldnt you say? Then Samsung wont have your money, youll still have your upgrade to play with, and you wont be stuck with a device that didnt get sharted from god's ass. Problem solved.
To me what's just as bad as the people that constantly complain are the people that get so defensive about it as if they have the majority of stock in Samsung. To break it down simply- Samsung doesn't care about you. They don't care about you the whiner, or you the blind follower.
Manufacturers aren't expected to cater to every whim of the consumer but I don't think anyone could come up with a valid argument in support of Samsung's continually delayed release of software both now and with other devices in the past.
In the end it's a great piece of hardware that we're lucky to have such excellent support for here on XDA and other places on the internet but it's just not supported by Samsung. They could learn a lesson or two from HTC. Sadly, if you're buying a Samsung or Motorola, this is the risk you're taking.

Here is what i wrote,
Signed/Encrypted bootloaders... Come on HTC... This really pisses me off. Think about it, really, what are you losing here? Almost nothing. It is the persons choice to root, so you lose no quality control.
But back onto the actually point. Signing/encrypting bootloaders or other functions of a device that a consumer owns was considered a radical idea. It was frowned upon and was thought of as childish. And that is how you guys are acting, childish. You lock down your phones because your scared of what.... progress?
I understand there are some problems for you with rooting. For example, free wireless tethering, ability to use leaked ROMs and other factors. But this is such a small hand off to wage war with developers. Microsoft did it, Sony did it, even Apple did it.... Look were they all are now. The hackers do everything they can to make sure they can hack and DOMINATE the devices they lock down. In Microsoft's and Sony's case, there is a difference in reason, piracy. Now, tell me, if I can already install any app on my phone, what piracy are you protecting users form by not allowing them to do anything custom with their phone?
You have brought the whole world a step backwards, as a lot of people believe in your philosophies, and eventually will standardize them. What this about to start is enormous, there is no problem right now for you because people aren't even trying to hack your gay signature checks. Why? Because those developers DONT BUY THAT PHONE. ------->DONT<---- Buy that phone. Now, once that this standdard is implemented with every single modern phone, you guys will be tormented by the constant stream of hacks and exploits the a full force of developers can bring. You will be stressed to the point as the iPhone jailbreaking scene replicates itself to Android devices.
I mean come on HTC, do you really want to start all of this? I wouldn't. By not locking down your devices, you gain more customers(even though its a small percent that would leave because of your decisions), you gain a better view from people as a good company, and you get the benefit of geeks saying good things about you on their blogs. Yes HTC, thats were all the reviews come from, US. We will spare you no mercy in our reviews if you condemn us to this treatment any longer.
On a final note, i hope to rethink your decisions to sign/encrypt bootloaders and other parts of the phone. The whole point of Android is to be OPEN, not CLOSED. Thats what makes it different. The point is to be open, no matter what COST or FACTORS convince you otherwise. I do not even want to buy the HTC Evo 3D now because of your changes. Now HTC, rethink what you have done, please, and see if you can change it before it gets out of hand. In the end, you are the company that gets to make the decisions, but we are the consumers who buy your products.
Thanks so much for a great ride so far HTC,
You will be missed

What happened was a developer uploaded the stock kernel but was playing with it a little and forget he took out some lib files so some people flashed a bad kernel. I updated my wife's phone with a rooted stock rom and her wifi works perfectly. Good going HTC

Lol. Why would they take n support out on wifi?

The EVO's bootloader is unlocked lmao, that's why they have S-OFF. It's not encrypted or anything.
Speaking of which...this ROM was 3 months in the making. HTC just made the announcement.
Don't try to take down HTC and Sprint this way when you have no evidence.

That's impressions. We all have opinions on things. But the bootloader is not locked by far. There is not encryption or anything. Sure, there is no "unlock" button, but was there suppose to be? Peter Chou never said the EVO 4G applied to the new policy. Even if it was to go into effect that soon. They will be updating the EVO 4G again....and probably soon

Sorry, I wasn't specific at all there. I get the sense, pardon the pun, that EVO users are feeling left behind after this update. The words half-assed were used multiple times as I scrolled the thread. Also, the fact that they were left on Sense 1.0 burned people bad.

Stupid ass Sprint and their stupid ass playbook?

As you can see by the title I am getting more and more disgruntled by the day.
I assume the playbook made no mention of GB this f'ing week?
.....I'm not sure how I am supposed to respond to this. There is no question. Or any way to know whether or not Sprint will drop GB. Hmmm

If it is going to drop isn't it mentioned in the PB?
Therefore the question is - Was it in the PB tonight?

Speaking of retarded, look who it is. Pot, Kettle, Black.
Anyway - I qualified my title in the first line of my post. I am disgruntled and I am tired of the same old **** from Sprint/Samsung. No communication, late patches... Tired and disgruntled beyond belief. Hence the title.

Thanks for being real. I feel the same way bro. I feel your pain. But I am not surprised. Maybe some of the guys can ask Lonny Claus for his version of gingerbread. I am on the naughty list so I won't be getting gingerbread but others who are on the nice list can or maybe we can wait for the Lonny Bunny but our best chance is to ask the Great Lonny next Halloween for gingerbread by that time we will have an official gingerbread while everybody else will be on Jellybean.

Thanks Steve. I didn't know that was the case. I thought several users here had access to it.
I am so disgusted with SamSprint it is disgusting. The worst part yet is that I feel that I have no options. I like Samsung technology (specifically the large AMOLED screen in combination with the physical QWERTY), but with attitude that Samsung and Sprint have in releasing software updates (the attitude of I got your money already), it is REALLY discouraging. I wish we had other options because I would GTFO of this phone QUICK and never buy another Samsung phone again.
ALSO, all of this in combination with Samsung and Sprint's complete lack of communication on the matter. No status updates, confirmations, NOTHING. SOOOOOOOOOO tired of this business model, and nothing on the horizon that looks better.
The Galaxy S is an awesome phone no matter which variant you have. Yes we don't get the up dates as quick as we should, I put it on the carriers(refer to the I9000 section on samfirmware and you'll see what I mean). If they'd let some members of xda do their updates they'd be a lot stablier and out faster.

It is pretty clear from all of the posts that I have read, that getting GB from his phone is nothing short of a lost cause.
That said, we shouldn't need to do this kind of reverse engineering crap to get the software off his phone to get it to the people that want it.

Care to take your childish, complaining somewhere else? Try any android blog, or the sprint forums. This thread, and all of these supportive attitudes are asinine.

I am sorry that you think it is ok for companies (Sprint/Samsung) to treat THEIR CUSTOMERS this way. You know, the same customers who pay the salaries of the employees of their respective companies???
I am also sorry that you don't find this ridiculous delay, and this non-communication as acceptable, and as something that doesn't warrant complaining.
Instead, you chose to complain about my post. Good use of your time. It is YOUR passive attitude which is what allows these exact delays to occur. GOOD JOB!
BACK ON TOPIC:
I guess it wasn't in the playbook this week?
Dude, for real? Grow up. We've gone this long without official GB, it's not like the phone is unusable without it.

And that makes it ok!!!!
I simply don't understand how so many people think it is OK for a consumer to be treated this way by the company they are supporting. This is NOT OK. Instead of being passive about the entire situation, why not be more vocal???
Funny thing is, if you pacifists would actually read what I post, you would see that I am not even necessarily asking for GB tomorrow. I would be thrilled just to get some communication from these companies. Stop keeping the PAYING CUSTOMERS in the dark. Let us know what is going on.
If more people spoke up, maybe these companies would change their tune a little, but nooooooooooo, people are ok with not getting updates in a timely fashion, with no communication from the companies that will ultimately provide said update.
Unless GB is gonna make my phone physically do my job for me I don't see it as that big of a deal. The devs have made this phone kick ass but in essence its just a phone that's fun to mod. I just don't get all the anger. Besides that I'm running eh17 with one of the new kernels from source and it is running great. (Although it still doesn't do my job for me)

Your complaing in a development fourm isn't going to do anything for you if your upset that sprint/samsung does not give you timely updates to your phone. Try complaining in the sprint/samsung fourms, it might help your cause a litttle more.

I have personally written to both companies (actual paper and stamp). I am just one person. If more and more people did it (even just demanded communication), things would change.

Spoke up to WHO? XDA Developers forum?
And no one is keeping anyone in the dark. We weren't guaranteed ANYTHING. We have been getting leaks (read: unofficial builds), and that's it. Nothing has been announced. We'll get it when we get it. Were we even TOLD we were getting Gingerbread by both Sprint and Samsung? I don't think so. We are all speculating release dates, 2.3.x builds, playbook leaks, etc.
