I know this is not a verizon forum but wow!

EDIT:UPDATE: A new quote from their Twitter. "I have confirmed we allow phones w/ unlocked bootloaders to be activated on our network. Sorry for the misinformation."

I saw this and at first I was gonna laugh, but when I thought about it, the guy has no clue. There are already phones with unlocked bootloaders on verizon. So I think maybe they mean no phones will be sold unlocked, but what you do to them after that is your business.

They guy that posted that tweet probably doesn't even know what a bootloader is.

big V just butthurt that they wont have as much power over htc phones

^ all of you are probably correct.
Both the Charge & Revolution are unlockable (unencrypted).

in fairness I did its in general meaning its doesn't necessarily have to do with anything EVO

I guess every sub gets one of these threads.
Evo 3D links back to XDA http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ve-an-unlocked-bootloader-one-way-or-another/

From @VZWSupport:
Correction>> You CAN activate your HTC device with an unlocked bootloader on our network, we apologize for the confusion.
@grfullerton You are correct. If the bootloaders are unlocked, it does not prevent them from being activated on the Verizon network.*MS

This rocks.
I stand corrected, just read the link.
Wtf? This is weird.idk I'll have to try
My luck tomorrow at best buy
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
We already knew it wasn't locked. No matter were you get it, it will work wifi only. The activation is being forced by the place you purchase.

Correct, we knew it wasn't locked, but weren't sure about activation due to BB ad and changes to Galaxy Tab.
I have a pre-order at Bestbuy but called Verizon store and the rep there told me that I don't have to activate it if I don't want. I did tell her that I had a pre-order at BB and that I would rather buy from them anyway. She is holding one for me and with no activation or credit check needed.

Lets trade, my international for your Verizon.

I just moved to verizon so it makes more sense for me to trade my international tab with voice for a verizon 7.7 version.

why would dump a devise that does it all to get a stripped down version and then have to get a cell phone and possibly pay 2 plans? makes no sence but to each his own

Sorry, I'm going to be that guy. Can we please make at least a small attempt at proper English here?
Besides, maybe he has a cell phone provided through his company, or has a discount program. The dude made a post about something specific, and kneejerk reactions that provide zero utility are just noise.

maybe because he wants to. I don't have any regrets buying the verizon version yet since i haven't felt the need to root the device either
Also LTE connection is a nice thing to have on the go

Bootloader locked?

So, I was reading up a forum bout how Motorola's bootloader is locked, and the thought came across my mind..... Sony's bootloader can be unlocked, why cant the Motorola phones be unlocked too?
I know someone who has a Sony Neo with unlocked bootloader who flashes different kernels to get wicked overclock speeds

Is anyone working on this yet?
You should ask MOTO why don't they unlock our bootloader.
> why cant the Motorola phones be unlocked too?
Because of *****n Moto. I'm just mad that bootloader is still locked, even after Moto "joined" Google. Google promised, that they will provide optional unlock for all their phones...

But i still keep my milestone 2, its still a good phone.

Dev edition with unlocked bootloader

Hopefully this will get the progress going for a way for the rest of us on AT&T to get ours unlocked

This will not help get the locked phones unlocked. It is more complicated than this.
I'm referring to finally having the option to flash ROMs and such, I remember my droid x had a locked bootloader but we could flash

You will get that with safestrap or some other method but that bootloader will stay locked even with that released.
Gotcha, that's cool, this phone is worth it even if it stays locked. Thanks for the replies

Couple Things Confirmed From Google Rep (NOT release dates, Verizon questions)

I tried poking him for release dates, insisted he didnt know. Im aware a couple of my questions were pretty obvious but still good to hear straight from the source.

I don't think that Google rep knew what he was talking about. I highly doubt that the BL will be locked but then again anything can happen.
Don't go by what reps say IMO
Most google reps know a lot less than XDA members... In fact we usually update them!
I talked to the same Rep, he doesnt know what hes talking about. When he gave me a shipping date of 3-4 weeks i said, Thats unfortunate, sound slike tmobile will get the device faster than those who pre-ordered...His response was "that sounds awesome, glad you lucked out on the preorder."
I wouldnt listen to anything he has to over.
