[Q] Auto restart when connect to PC in "USB mass storage" mode" - Milestone 2 General

Dear all,
I have a trouble with my Milestone 2. It's auto restart when connect to PC/Laptop in USB mass storage mode. It creeps me out! Has anyone encountered this problem?

Maybe you installed some applications in your SDcard. When you connected the phone to your computer, those applications were running. It maybe the reason your phone auto restart.

Never had any problem like it. Did you tried with multiple sd cards, or format sd card?

That's it. It began since I had updated to 2.2.2

Same here... it's happening after 2.2.2 update.

You should try formatting the sdcard...

Also i experienced this since the update.
However rebooting the pc resolved thus i was under the impression that iit was caused by the pc.
I will double check later if the problem is gone....

i have the same problem my version is 2.2.2 anyone have some solution??
greetings!

Same here, it doesnt happen all the time it's probably some bug, the reason why it happends .. i am unsure why.. seems to be Mass storage only though.. didnt see it rebooting when its on the mode "NONE" but also.. its just some soft-reboot it doesnt even take 3seconds to reboot

I fixed it moving the apps moved to sd automatically to internal data.

This happens to my MS2 with stock blur rom (Mexican) And yes, it seems that it happens only in "mass storage mode", btw the ms2 here in Mexico comes with android version 2.2.1.

same here after the update!.

check that if you had install the weather software, safety software, etc. some maybe need SD card, and save some files in SD card.

Well, what I did was:
Open configuration -> Applications -> Manage Application
tap on "SD" tab to list all the apps installed on SD Card
Then, i choose one by one and moved with the "Move to internal" button.
Im not sure if that is the exact name of the menus and buttons because my locale is spanish...

Apps installed to storage card wont run from start menu

Hi all,
This always happened to me. In winmobile 6 and now 6.5. For some reasons since yesterday apps which installed to my storage card disconnected it's link or short cuts in the start menu. Now all of the apps in my storage card i can't access from start menu. when i clicked the app icon in my start menu my HD2 responded
"Cant open XXX. File is not registered or not trusted in digital signature, or can't find one of the files elements. Please resintall or restore this file."
I have to go to the file directory in my storage card to run the apps. This is very annoying and very inconivence. Anyone knows why? What's worse is that all of the new apps that i installed to my storage card has the same issue... Which means i can't no longer install apps to my storage card...
Help?
Use file explorer to find your chosen program icon /copy it
Still using file explorer go to device/windows/start menu/programs and paste shortcut using left hand bottom menu
Job done ! Rename it if you want !
DISREGARD THE LAST MADE AN ERROR !!

if you go to file explorer can you read your sd card? I had the same issue and it was the sd card that failed so it could not read/find the program it was looking for. Try for kicks copying over some apps to a different storage card and retry. It will at least eliminate that possibility.
Yes, HD2 can read the SD card, and i have to go to the SD card location to run the apps. Just can not access from the start up menu...

So, install to phone mem instead and problem solved!
Anyone else can help? I think install to the main memory is not a very good idea.

I had the same problem you described. It happened after some old program I launched got the phone stuck and I had to pull the battery out to do a reset.
After the boot completed, I started to receive errors when trying to launch programs from the storage card. Uninstalling wouldn't work and reinstalling always failed.
Replacing the sd card didn't help either.
I believe that something corrupted the registry.
I finally gave up and hard reset.
The only good thing that came out of it was getting a new 16GB sd card for me to use.
My happened when i installed a lockscreen cab to my HD2 to the main memory. After that everything i installed to the storage card wont run from the startup menu.
Really? some dude told me to reformat my storage card. I'd rather do a hard resert cuz i have alot of crap in my 16G storage card.
I haven't gave up yet so i will still try to look for my other options... Thanks to know at least i am not the only one who encounter this fu**ing problem...

Gave up and hard reset a couple of times, and i found out that the reason i can't click the icon in my start menu to access the apps which i installed in my storage card. It was because of i change the local and Text. I changed from Taiwan to USA and HD2 will not let me access the apps from start menu. This is very wierd, but if i change back to Region: Chinese Taiwan, then my HD2 is ok again... Just to share with you guys...

[Q] How to fix SD card issue with files?

Hello everyone. I tried to search answer to this question, but so far found nothing.
This is known issue, when using Android SD build.
When I transfer files to my phone, the apps do not see the files. I have to restart my phone in order to see them. Does anyone knows how to fix it? I found ROM that I love, and it turns out to be such frustrating.
PS: I am also a noob, just got HD2 this afternoon.
Do you mean that you transfer them from your PC? If that the case it's worth checking if you not connecting to PC through Disk Drive, as this making "sd card" inaccsesible from phone apps. When you disconnect from PC, your files should be visible to the apps again.

You can install SDRescan.

Sadly it doesn't work as well. I have to reboot the phone in order to get my files.
Some builds on sd dont fully support mass storage.

Download MULTI MOUNT from market, and use it to enable the SD to the PC (not the android built in function) This is a must for all SD builds! cause with the standard method you can corrupt your data.Multi Mount allos the phone and the pc to access the card at the same time with no risk

Factory reset for no reason

My phone reset itself for no reason. It was laggy so I restarted. When it rebooted, all the apps I had installed wod force close (samsung default apps worked fine) and all my personal info was gone (phone nos, contacts, settings, etc).
When this happened first two times, i replaced my phone. Now it happened on the replacemwnt SGS.
I am thinking it may be the sd card (I am using an 8gb external sd I have from my previous Moto Mestone). I've been running for about a week with no reset since I took the card out from the phone. I would however like to use the sd card for the additional storage.
Anybody know if the sd card could have been the problem and maybe how to fix it?

Yes, it sounds like this
Did you already try to boot the phone without the external-SD-Card being plugged in? Or just tried booting with another external SD-Card?
If not, copy over your data form ext. SD-Card to your PC and reformat the external SD-Cardwithin the system settings.
Maybe there are some system files from your Milestone left which SGS doesn't like
Installed Darky's rom. Do not seem to have that problem anymore.
Thanks

Android apps gone?

Sinse some days my apps on the Market place are gone..
For example:
- Whatsapp
- Facebook app(from facebook)
- Liveprofile
- Angry Birds
- Appbrian
- Navigon
- Google apps (earth, google stars etc.)
anyone else having the same problem?
I use: HTC HERO (no brand) ROM: Elelinux-Hero-2.1
I had this also in the past. It happened when I unmounted my SD card and although I mounted it properly afterwards somehow app2sd lost some apps.
I did a reboot and they came back.
Do you use app2sd and have you mounted your SD card recently?
If yes then try if rebooting solves it.

Nah, at least the Google apps are compatible with 2.1 as well.
I found the "bug/error" in the android market place you need to go to the option menu and disable all parent lock things somehow it was set to the lowest option, so I can't view anything...

???? it wasn't me that answered your problem! check the thread properley!
nono i ment if u entered that cmd itd mount ur sdcard
Re
Write which os do you use than we can continue....
I experimented this when i has a 190mb partition system, now that my partition system is 200mb i've installed again and it recognized my sd card without 'cmd mounting', can be that 200 or 210mb partition system or more is best for a fully working. Can you try it..
Re Nope
Well maybe, but i don't think that's problem....????maybe something with mountpoint.....
ok i don't know if it's a mount problem i've got here as i'm a noob i don't know where to start with that! let me tell you my problem in more detail....
i'm running win7 ultimate sp1 os on my laptop, i have the gt540 installed with ics beta 4 with wifi fix and app fix too, wifi works after wifi fix is installed by recovery, market works too, now when i plug the usb cable into my phone i get the sounds that it is recognized by my laptop and i get usb mass storage disabled so click on the android and it says now enabled but no sound happens from my laptop to say it's recognized it and in "My Computer" there is no storage appearing that's problem 1! problem 2 is that my sd card (which worked perfectly well in Swiftdroid)
is now saying "Blank SD card" also "SD card is blank or has unsupported file system" when i click on the message it then prompts me to "Format SD card" which i don't want to do! are these two problems linked? if so what is the best way to rectify it? please keep it simple and explain fully as much as you can! thank you in advance!
I've just backed up my sd card to my laptop and formatted it using "SD Formatter" as the inbuilt formatter on ICS doesn't work for me, i also did a native swap using bs828 tutorial using his recommended settings for it in hope that this would work! but i'm still getting no recognition in "My Computer" and it's saying "blank sd card" still!!!! i'm at a loss i know the card is ok because i've gone back to swiftdroid thru a nandroid back up in recovery several times and that works!
