Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 specs (WIFI) from samsung.com - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Removed link for now
I could be confused but I think this is for the new one yet to be released.
-snip snip-
Also: No mention of processor and knowing samsung, there is a chance this page might not be up to date 100%

The GT 10.1V has a P7100 model number. From the URL it looks like this is a P7510, which sounds like what the new GT 10.1 should be.
Also I don't think the 10.1V came in white.
PS. And I think this pretty much ends any hope of a microSD slot in the wifi edition (though I think we knew that was not happening for a while now).

Well that makes up my mind I'm gonna wait till august for a tegra 3

What makes you think Nvidia will kill all those tabs coming to market now with tegra 2?
I think that if we see a kal-el in the shops before x-mass we are lucky!
Unless all those tabs show at MWC/CITA advertised and promised...well it sill be like back in 2010. Some of them will show up (in small numbers) some of them will not.
We will have few of them in with kal -el... come December/Jan and we will see Ipad3.
MWC2012 we will hear that this IS THE YEAR of the tablet and story will continue the same way

No mention of TouchWiz........ Maybe my prayers have been answered?

Looks like samsung is going to work there media codec magic!

For anyone looking for a SD solution... there doesnt seem to be a built in reader.. however on the German accessory website it has a "USB connection kit" and the description reads "Connectivity to USB stick, camera, printer, etc., SD card reading, 30pin"
http://www.samsung.de/de/Privatkund...r/EPL-1PLRBEGSTD/accdetail.aspx?atab=features

strange, it does not say PLS screen

So after clicking one of the links on the page it brings you to a hybrid 10.1 / 7 page. Looks like a work in progress. I'd take the page with a grain of salt and just keep an eye on it. I have a Samsung epic and the same type of pages popped up on the net using both new and information from older products prior to releases going live too.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App7

Yeah, i just removed the link. Like i said earlier, samsung seems to take old pages and use them as templates when creating new ones and puts them on the live site prematurely. They did the same thing with the Epic, its confusing so best to just wait for now.

It definitely doesn't look horrible. However, I don't know/can't tell if the screen is better than the Xoom's...
Also... I didn't make this video, lol.
nice video !
I was worried about the screen but then noticed that he has the brightness cranked to the maximum. This definitely looks like the tablet for me

I didn't know that. Thanks (no sarcasm intended).
this video pretty much convinced me to get this over xoom !!
some of the features that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has over the Motorola Xoom are :-
dual surround speakers
native divx play
Slimmer and lighter than the Xoom
8mp cam
FULL 1080P video recording
bigger battery
can anyone prove other wise? and what's about the screen - what screen does the xoom have?
I already own a Galaxy Tab original - thinking of getting this when out !
So are there a lot of good games for the Tab or is it just angry birds and dungeon defenders?
ofcuz there are thousands of great games! u can go youtube n search for "motorola xoom games"... there is a review of games in honeycom
fyi, there is no usb, microsd, or hdmi port in the galaxy tab 10.1
All I can say is "I'm hooked, I'm hooked, I'm hooked!" That is just what every tablet manufacturer needs to get their tablet out. It's better than a commercial and helps answer a lot of my questions. From here on, it can only get better.

It has already been said, not confirmed, that one or more of theses may be available via the propriety port on the bottom of the tablet
the specs are really impressive...
really hope it does better than the first SGT, which is sluggish for me..
It has almost everything cept perhaps true GPS, USB host, native HDMI out, and maybe even a removable battery (like the Toshiba)... One can only wish!
Want. The more I watch the video, the more I want the device.
When can I buy it? I guess by the time it is out I will be getting a xoom or ipad2. Yes I like it very much, but it might take 3-4 months befor it is out.

The video should also say "no sdcard.. it's so special"

Video Playback.

I'd like to make a comparison in video playback before I preorder mine mine tomorrow.
I have one particular video in mind
Zenith Part 1 Sample mkv. It can be found via thepiratebay (official destributer, its free and legal, the video I mean, as well as the full version of it.) But you can find it elsewhere (their own website) if you have a problem with TPB.
The galaxy tab struggles to play the sample in VPlayer and refuses in the stock player to even try. I get screen glitching and slowness if it doesn't just crash.
Would someone be willing to download it (33MB) sample and comment?
Thanks.

playback is very slow. audio plays at a normal speed. used mobo for the video app.
Thanks for the test. I just tried mono on my grab plays slow but no screen glitching like my other player. I had to use soft decoding though. Unsupported by system player.
It seems video playback is no better than the gtab.
Hopefully its atleast similar I'm happy with that much.

I tried it, but because I'm using the Galaxy Tab as a comparison here, it's build in codecs don't support the sample video format and so can't play it.
You may want to wait for Samsung's upcoming GalaxyS tablets that are coming in June. Their GalaxyS phones are the only ones I know of with out-of-the-box great MP4, MKV, Xvid, and WMV support. My Xoom doesn't play a vast majority of videos that my GalaxyS Vibrant does. Presumably the GalaxyS tablets will have similar abilities.

From the videos at CTIA, it's even lighter than TouchWiz3, but I can understand wanting a pure flavor of Honeycomb. That said, any pure Honeycomb ("with Google") very, very likely will not have direct, out of the box support for MKV (See: Nexus S vs Galaxy S).
That said, I know Acer and LG are coming out with some Honeycomb tablets, as well as Sony and HTC. Pretty much all "by Summer". The only one with a set date is the Sammy.
At this point, I think the Xoom is going to be the only customization-free tablet of the bunch. Until it gets a firmware update to fix the slow rendering and video playback though, it's *very* hard for me to recommend it though. I may well be returning my own in the coming days.

If it were the Nexus One of Tablets, I'd have no problem, at least we could count on the updates from Google and know it won't get dropped. But with Moto in the mix, I don't trust them to get us any updates let alone keep them going for a decent period.
I feeling now that I may end up getting one anyway and replacing it after the summer. Mainly because I'm impatient, and so far all my impatience costs me is money.

New Tabs may too have Tegra 2 :D

Hi
For me it is like this:
No Tegra 2 = No Tegra 2 Gaming = SAY NO to Galaxy Tab
However, things may be good and Galaxy Tab 8.9 and hopefully 10.1 too may well have a Tegra 2 and yet may be able to do do full HD videos!
http://mp4nation.net/blog/2011/03/catching-up-preview-of-the-galaxy-tab-8-9/
Perhaps a bit of a late exposure on our part, but here we have a users experience preview with the Galaxy Tab 8.9, thanks to Stewart Wolpin of Uberizmo. To brief you before we delve in, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor, runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb and has an 8.9-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800.

720p and 1080p renders the same on a 1280* display anyway, 1080p will just rape your battery further, so it doesn't even matter.

Ditto. I'll be using my tab for other things, and if I want video I hook it up to my TV. I'd like it to be samsung's own, but the chances are pretty slim.
Yes it is precisely for this reason that I returned my Xoom : it just won't play any HD (720p or 1080p) that you throw at it without transcoding. I.e. no high profile support for H.264 streams. And I 'can' transcode but why should I invest so much time? Tegra 2 has been a disappointment in this respect and perhaps Tegra 3 will correct this.
I am hoping the new Tabs will not have Tegra 2.
I played a 720p video on a Xoom and on a Galaxy S and the video was noticibly smoother on the Galaxy S!

Decoding a video versus rendering a frame in a 3D game are two very different things.
Decoding a 720p and displaying it on a 3" screen versus a 50" screen takes exactly the same amount of processing power, no matter how many more pixels the 50" screen has. The video is not going to gain any more details!

Probably because the Tegra 2 is weak at HD videos. It cannot play high-profile .mkv videos.

Probably because the Transformer is available and is likely cheaper than the Tab.
I own a Galaxy Tab 7" and a Transformer, and I'm interested to see how the Galaxy Tab 8.9 turns out, as it could replace both. However Tegra2 video playback is woeful compared to the Hummingbird, so if the 8.9 doesn't ship with Exynos I will likely pass and keep my GT7/Transformer combo.
Regards,
Dave
P.S. The Transformer is a lovely bit of kit, but Tegra2 is thus far underwhelming for video playback.

new demo video with touchwiz

funny how they photoshopped "Samsung" onto the front of the tab on all of their videos.
The most interesting piece is something about support of multi kind of video format and user does not need to convert!!!

In stock honeycomb you dont have a separate video player app.
Have heard that the tabs that now ships with touchwiz has a dedicated videplayer app like the SGT 7" have. And that the support for divx/xvid is better.
lets us hope that with touchwiz and Samsung we can get a btter video experience like we are used to with the 7" Tab that worked so good playing video.
Does some one know if the Galaxy 10.1 shiped with touchwiz is divx certified like the 7" Is?
Edit: when they shows the hdmi adapter it looks that they also have connected it to the charger, if you have to have it connected to a charger to make it work it will suck.

Do like the app while still in app functionality.
Just a reminder of how every once in a blue these skins do provide functionalities that should be default in android.

Everybody says that. Moboplayer plays just about everything with no conversion already. Playing everything back smoothly at 24-30 fps is a different story.
I believe when the Galaxy S came out it was one of the first phones to play DivX videos stock and it did a good job of it too... better than Mobo player does now I believe... and that was before anything else was around. Could be the case again?

Galaxy tab 10.1

Hi, just bought the above but already disappointed with the price / performance ratio and think of returning it for a xoom as I can get double the disk space for £80 less money + I get a HDMI port.
I am finding it cannot proccess 1080p video on youtube which it is supposed to be able to do, it can do 720p but suprisingly using DICE it can do 720p high profile movies files (mkv) pretty well to, overlcocked to 1.6 (not getting hot) it can almost do 1080p high profile too.
I know the limitaions with Terga regards to video but I thought it was supposed to be able to 1080p youtube as this is main or base profile.
Any other advantages / disadvantages?
Are there any fully working 3.2 wfi UK ROMS?
Cheers.
what is the point to watch 1080 on 10.1 inches screen? I just don't understand. btw, xoom can't play 1080 YouTube videos either.

There are two reasons I can think of from the top of my head.
1. No need to convert 1080p videos if that is what someone already has.
2. Someone may want to use Xoom to playback a video to a 1080p TV.

Ah ok, I didn't realise this aspect. I would want my tablet to be able to output 1080p via it's video out connectivity.
The other point still stands, some people have 1080p videos as part of their video collection. As there's many other devices that can support full 1080p video. It would be really annoying for those people to have to convert these videos and store two copies (one at 720p and another at the 1080p). It's far easier if their tablet could play 1080p so you can throw anything at it and it'll just play it.
This thread is interesting.. I was about to get the Galaxy Tab 10.1 because of the much better screen and lighter body weight..
Should I keep the Xoom instead??
For 1080p don't buy anything now, wait for kal-el.
Managed to brick my Xoom last night whilst installing an boot image (dont ask for details I may cry) so I am taking it back for a refund today as PCworld have kindly agreed to do so. ( I may have ommitted a few details of the fault with the device).
One definite advantage to the samsung is odin, no silly bollocks with adb and 20 step rooting and unlocking, piece of piss on the tab, although have you seen the root on the eepad transformer?, yeah you only need to do it once but what a faff.
I have decided my only problem with the Gtab is (I can live without the HDMI onboard and even USB) is space, with a couple of movies, two audio books and only 4 games I was already running out of space with no means to upgrade, this is a apple-esque fail and I have to say they deserve all the **** they are getting in the courts for apple copying, it just is an ipad 2 running android.

Uh, "adb" (and "fastboot") is what Google (and everyone else) uses and works perfectly. Odin is some Windows-only hack, not sure how that's an "advantage" at all?
originally I was waiting for the Galaxy tab but the more I read on it, and seeing the price, I decided to go with the xoom for the following reasons in no particular order.
1. Xoom is pure android, I suppose this doesn't matter for all you flashers but it does to me.
2. Ports, and internal sd card slot, usb, hdmi. all of these are extra peripherals on the tab and I don't want to go searching for them when i need them, again might not be a problem for some but it is for me.
3 Price. for the same price as a 16gb tab you can get a 32 that includes all of the ports so more bang for my buck imo.
Advantages of the tab over the xoom..
1 weight, the tab weighs nothing the xoom can break your wrists off depending how you hold it. I've gotten used to manipulating my xoom now so it's no longer an issue but still an advantage the samsung has over xoom
2 screen res. samsung make beautiful screens, much more beautiful than the xoom. Not that the xoom is aweful it just looks like crap next to a galaxy, but then so does everything.
my opinion make of it what you will
Samsung screen is color rich but I think Motorola screen has natural colors.
Sometimes colors on Samsung feel artificial.

originally I was waiting for the Galaxy tab but the more I read on it, and seeing the price, I decided to go with the xoom for the following reasons in no particular order.

Cheers for the feedback. The 2 issues I have with the Xoom are weight and screen.
I think waiting for Kal-el is probably the best thing for me to do, although I am interested to see what the Gtab7.7 looks + speed wise when its released.
My Xoom isnt really that bad IMO, I've got the internal 32Gb + SD 32Gb storage, which certainly beats out the Gtab10.1 for sure.
