The price continues to fall.... - Nexus S General

The price has now fallen to £300 in the UK. (Even the AMOLED version).
£306.60 AMOLED - http://www.prepaymania.co.uk/mobilephone/samsung-google-nexus-s-mobile-phone.html
It's not cheap enough to justify a £150 upgrade from my Desire just yet, but if it falls to £250 I think I will make the switch to a nexus s.
What do you all think?

Well im definitely not a rich kid as im studying at university for a degree in computer networking(BEng) and I will soon be a Chartered engineer(CEng) Also built themes for CM6 in my Nexus One days for the nightly ROM builds and built two custom ROM's for the HTC Desire so im not in either of the subsets you refer to;P Im just a guy that likes his phones and really like s enjoying the time he has with them.
Android and Cisco have been my world for the last year, and i have had the Desire, nexus one, desire z, desire hd, nexus x(9020t), sgsII, and now this pimped version of the nexus s
Picture of my new beast, I very much doubt if anyone in the UK has one of these darlings...

Funny enough me neither until i saw this, fantastic looking device, and as i had the all black before, this is a nice pimped up version for me SAMOLED looks beautiful with the black and white mixed And the added plesure of knowing this model is quite a rarity as not many have been produced so far, and they are not even available in the USA at the moment... So its gonna be rare as all hell here Will look even better when 3.1 drops, lollol

If.... 3.1 drops
I have to stop browsing this forum. It is making me want a nexus s sooooooooo bad. But my Desire is really awesome. It is not worth the £150 just for internal memory, better games and a front facing camera. If it falls to £250 I'm in like I say. Otherwise I save for something better.

Man thats cheap, just buy it already

The Nexus S is googles developer device now, so it will drop, at the I/O everything new was shown on a Nexus S so it will definitely drop for the NS. The question mark is how long will you have to wait for 3.1 on the SGSII. Samsung dont have a good reputation with upgrading their devices to the next OS. SGS1 still has not got official gingerbread, lollol
As a computer user, networker, builder and tentative app creator, the Nexus S for me is the best phone going. And the instant and constant updates is what makes a google phone special.
Take it from a guy that has been around android for a very long time now, There are really two phones at the moment to choose from, the SGSII and the NS, i would not let money affect your decision, let what you want out of the phones direct your decision to one or the other
good luck wills,

lollollol,
I have seen many guys like wills on this forum before, and they cant seem to choose between the money aspect and enjoyment..,
I work on a different set of criterion, i work on the aspect that if its class, and i like it, i buy it, and enjoy it
So my advice to you wills is buy either of these beasts and enjoy it, dont let money be a factor. If money is a factor then you should not be buying high end phones because it will affect your judgement that should be based on quality
wow, that was deep
JD

Lol. It's not that.
Money is a factor to an extent. I do not have the money to just go out and buy a SGS2 new today for £500, or else I would do so.
I have to save my money before I can afford such devices. I don't chop and change between devices, I keep them for at least a year. So if I buy a nexus s now, I would be keeping it for a year. In a year, it will be forgotten and out of date. The SGS2 will not.
In a perfect world, I would buy a Nexus S now and keep it for 6 months, sell it and then buy something dual core / the nexus 3. But I cannot afford to do that.
I cannot justify buying a nexus s. I'd be spending £300 for hardly any new features. If I didn't have a desire, this would be a steal of a deal. But £150 is a lot for minor things.
I'm not even making any sense to me now. That is a load of crap ^. Simple - I want one. But I can't bring myself to spend the money I have saved on such little changes.

I will see. I might get some extra work in the next 1/2 months, so I might treat myself (especially if it falls lower). But then again, I might get even more money and treat myself to a nice new SGS2. It lacks all the dev community and custom roms etc though That could change though.

The dev community is buzzing over there, lots of people have bought it... The only problem is Samsung only give maybe 70 percent of their source code away, the other 30 percent is there own drivers so they dont have to make that public as per the GPL.
The good thing about the Nexus S is that its completly open and you will be able to run practically anything on it. Any branded Samsung device will always be better with stock roms because it has all the codecs and stuff that make it special..
I liked the SGSII, but for all its beauty I just could not get used to various things with it...
Love CM too, and that will never happen on the SGSII, and if it does it will be a retarded version due to lack of codecs and high level video recording

I appreciate your enthusiasm. But I am standing my ground. I am not paying £150 for such small improvements. If it falls to £250, I will buy it. Otherwise, I save.
(Unless I get lots of money or win the lottery).

When will our Nexii become old news?

Im getting my N1 tommorow, and I feel like regretting it for some reason.. not for "some reason".. just because I feel like it will be old soon.. and after I just got it..
When will our beloved Snapdragon device finnaly become nothing? If there planning on releasing a 2GHz processor for our phones soon, i'd say maybe next year. Though hopefully not..
Other than that, this phone seems to have an incredible lifespan.. the only way I could see a better Android phone coming out is that it has a better processor (as stated above). Or more RAM, of course.. which has already been done.
Really, I just need some reassuring that such a costly device isnt thrown in the garbage simply after a few months. My mommy didn't want to get this for me as is =/
Alas, there is no way to cease innovation.
The hardware on this device is underutilized. The nexus is the snappiest phone out there. With the g1 and mytouch I could feel the lag, but on the nexus the nexus the UI is snappy, I don't know if I need a device faster than the nexus. If Google addresses the software issues I think this phone can become noticeably smoother and better in so many areas. With adequate attention from android this phone can be relevant for years. I think video calls will become pretty standard as will much better camera hardware and that will eventually put the nexus towards the back of the 'superphone' pack. The nexus camera is disappointing but from what I understand it can vastly improve with software updates.
Basically the phone is performing below its capabilities which is exciting but also disconcerting in that there is no dependable indication that Google will address the minor and major issues that make the nexus somewhat disappointing. Only time will tell, the potential is there, we just need to motivate Google.

I didn't know/think someone would buy the phone for such a price with it being outdated at the time of selling. Guess it doesn't matter though, I will use your advice.
And thanks for the thorough post Maverick, your typing did not go to waste - I read it all. Didn't know the Nexus was performing under expectations - or not being fully utilized. Quite exciting, actually. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this device.

Oh trust me, people are definitely willing. Especially people that don't follow tech news.... Muwhahahahah!
Case in point, I sold my G1 last month for $160. I posted on here about it and others said they sold it for $200+. The kicker is that I got mine for $99 on Amazon, so after using it for 10 months, I even made a profit
Considering here in Australia, the best android phone you can get is a Hero, my nexus one is going to be top of the pack for some time, the best thing that has been annouced here will be the desire in april. But the specs are nearly similar, and there are pros and cons to sense UI.
This phone will last a while if it is properly supported by android updates.

Paid 50 for my G1 because some stupid guy at work thought that he liked his shadow much better, in January of 2009. Sold my G1 for 200 on craigslist February 17th, made huge profit. Too many ill informed individuals to take advantage of...... I guess it works for me.
That is all actually interesting! As a matter of fact, I have a G1.. I didn't think if selling it for 200$ or more though. I couldn't anyways, its in mint condition.. but I broke the screen. While it is still usable, I doubt anyone would want it. I'll just sell it cheap, lol.
Taking advantage of the not tech savy people, a new way for me to make profit I see.. niceeee...

Protect your screen! With a screen protector ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618006 ) or a case! My G1 was in 99% perfect condition when I sold it (I dropped it once and the corner was a bit gummed up).
A few bucks on either yields a few hundred when it's time to sell. Worth it, isn't it?
You know what the sad thing is.. I have a case, the perfect case that would've caused the screen not to break.. but I was getting tired of having a case on all the time, and a few weeks, or days, after I removed the case - I dropped the phone face down - and that was the end of it =/ I would've been devastated if I knew I wasn't get my N1 anytime soon.
I learned my lesson though.. the hard way.

tomorrow..HTC Supersonic for sprint 4.3 inche screen, 4g ..
man i hope they announce it tomorrow

My disappointment with Sprint and with HTC

I don't know if this is worthy of a new thread or not, if you guys find it not to be then you can delete it. I just wanted to post this so that i can vent my anger out on Sprint and no one besides you guys at XDA would probably care. I am very upset with Sprint and all of their products that i have so far. I got into the smartphone scene with a palm and i had that for quite a while, things worked great on it. Then i made the switch to the HTC Diamond. I was excited for the phone until i got it. It had a huge battery problem, i would probably get 5 hours most on the phone, and it lagged severely. To me, that is a huge problem so if i were with Sprint and HTC i would have fixed that right away. But, alas sprint is not that kind of company, so they left it. Thanks to the developers, they fixed Sprint and HTCs problem.
I then switched to the HTC Hero, again i was very excited for this phone and i saved for quite a while to purchase it. But again, when i got it i was disappointed. The phone lagged more than i expected and again, there was a battery issue. HTC get the hint already, fix your battery scripting. So i did the most sensible thing, i rooted my phone and upgraded with developer roms because it seems developers care more than Sprint.
Now i sit here waiting for Android 2.1 which sprint promises that they will release. I hear so many dates, first one said it was suppose to be released on March 23 and now i hear April 9th. And to make matters even worse, they are now releasing 2 new phones to their lineup. I am excited for these new phones, the nexus one and the EVO, but what the heck sprint, fix your current problems!
I am very interested in the EVO, from what i read, it is suppose to have quite a few cool things. But, i am not going to let the appearance fool me, this phone seems so powerful that sprint isnt gonna be able to handle it and they will release some great looking phone with a ton of problems, and instead of fixing these problems, they'll probably just try to push another phone on us. The Evo says it will have an 8 megapixel camera, seems impressive but the Hero has a 5 megapixel camera, that honestly, is **** without some tweeking to it. So i think an 8 megapixel camera will probably be the same with no fix from sprint or htc. Next, they promise a great processor, this sounds good but to me it sounds like another phone with 5 hours of battery life. I may be wrong but so far htc's previous products are all the same in this field.
I may just ranting but i really needed to get this out, i still don't know why i stick with sprint and htc, i guess i am loyal and i have faith that one day they will listen to their customers and fix their stuff. I don't know if anyone else feels this way too but this is what i have noticed since i got onboard with htc and sprint.

haha thats great, thanks i need that, haha. if crying gets things fixed with these companies then i am there.
I would imagine that all smartphone get terrible battery life. They are basically pocket-sized computers. It's not just HTC's. They improved the Hero a ton with the US version compared to the Euro one. Maybe switching to a non-smartphone might be your option? I don't know. I can tell you that with 2.1, our Heroes will have better battery life once we get the update. Because these leaked ROMs already do. Anyways, I don't really think Sprint is the problem with the phone. They are just the carrier minus the few apps they install. Do you live in a spot that has good coverage from Sprint? Because I will tell you this...If you have bad coverage, you won't get good battery life. Maybe switching carriers would help. Just my opinion.
-Ken
if you're not satisfied..then go get yourself an iPhone.....end of thread..
well one reason i was upset is with the diamond i had about 4 hours to 5 hours with the phone, sleep or active. I then learned about rooting the phone and i installed a rom that fixed that problem. so my guess was it was some type of scripting error that the companies just never got around to fixing. And i live in AZ, sprint and verizon have the best coverage, the rest suck out here so i wouldnt consider any of them.
What kind of battery problem are you having with the hero? I can easily get through the day on a charge most of the time.
And even when I can't, keeping a second usb cable at my office so I can plug in there every now and then isn't a big deal. I consider it more than a fair trade-off for being able to carry that much computing power in my pocket.
It wasn't all that many years ago that I owned a desktop computer that had a slower processor, less ram, less storage, crappier screen and MUCH slower internet access than what my hero has.
I really don't understand why so many people ***** about "only" one day of battery life. What's so freakin' inconvenient about having your phone plugged in while you sleep?
Hell, when I carried a Treo 650 I had to have my phone plus two spare batteries fully charged when I left the house in the morning if I expected to get through just to the end of the workday. Didn't really bother me, it's just the trade-off I had to make to have the capabilities that it gave me.
It's just basic physics. More processing power uses more electricity. More functionality means that processing power is being utilized even when you're not using the phone. That also costs electricity. Larger screen, you guessed it, needs more electricity. And yet people still demand that their phones be slim and sexy.
You want a phone that does all this cool ****? Well, then be prepared to plug it in every once in awhile. If they made these things with the ability to go 17 days between charges they'd have to be the size of a phone book to accomodate the battery.

No reason to be short, I am glad to hear others opinions on Sprint and HTC in general.
On another note, I could never be more satisfied with my phone, rom, battery life, stability, coverage, and rate plan.
Except Im switching to Evo. Lol!
This shows the value and worth of the developer forum. If it had not have been for the developer forums I would have stopped getting smartphones a long time ago.

iphone isn't a bad device, it's popular for a reason. It just wasn't for me. I've generally had good experiences with my hero. Mostly because of xda and a lot of my own work on roms. Android really is an excellent operating platform.

Well, to be fair, it is what everything seems to get compared to.
In all honesty after having carried one for two years, I have to say it's a great phone for its target audience. It's a reasonably capable smartphone that "just works". For non-geeks who want a phone that does all the "cool stuff", I think it's a good fit.
For people like me and the others who seek out forums like this one, it's just about the most frustrating damn phone in the world, though. It sucks having all that processing power in your fingertips but not being able to utilize it fully because Apple has the iPhone ecosystem locked down so tight. Not to mention that if I wanted to write my own software for it, I had to go out and buy a Mac! I had my first basic Android app loaded and running on my hero the same night I brought it home.
As far as your frustration with Sprint and HTC being slow with updates.... Just throw a 2.1 rom from this forum on it and stop worrying. I'm running DamageControl on mine, and I can honestly say I'm not the least bit interested in the official 2.1 update from sprint. There's nothing interesting even rumored to be in it that I don't already have.
Thanks, trust me, i love the hero. And i love XDA, i enjoy coming on this website to find what cool new roms are out and testing them. I think that the EVO may be an even better dinner table discussion, i can picture it now, "hey, is that an HDMI cable input?" "Oh this old thing, yea it is" haha

Well first I am sure Sprint is trying to work with HTC to fix all the bugs in 2.1. Other phones like Motorola Droid do not come with the sense UI, so HTC needs to have time to incorporate that. I am sure the original date may have been March 23, but like everyone knows some deadlines cant be met. We are not even supposed to know it was to be released that day or April 9. Someone leaks this information and that causes all the problems. Most of the time they dont even know a release date until all the beta testing is done. Stop paying attention to the dates people post. Plus if Sprint released this with bugs everyone would complain. i know one time with the HTC Touch Pro sprint released a ROM early and had to recall it. I dont think they want to do that sort of thing again.
For battery life, get an extended battery. The Sprint Hero uses the same has the HTC TP2 battery and they have a 2000mah battery that is the same size as stock for like $10 and its 500mah more.
As for technology, once you buy the Evo, it will be outdated just like the Hero. Thats part of technology life. be happy if you get 6 month out of your device before there is a better replacement.

6 months?
I've had my hero for just over 2 weeks now, and in that time it's been officially announced that the N1 and EVO are on their way to Sprint.
I couldn't wait any longer, though. My wife and I have been doing without cell phones for awhile since we moved to a new town. I now live a 5 mile drive from even the slightest hint of an AT&T signal, not a good deal for our iPhones. I've been holding out to see what got announced this spring, but nobody was saying anything and impatience finally got the better of me and I decided the Hero would be "just fine". (Which worked out, because none of the announced phones will be on the shelf soon enough that I could have waited anyway.)

Chanel Custom Theme - Amazing!!

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you see how much I have learned. I sent my phone to WindowsHD.com and had them mod the phone for me. I received it back and started tweaking it myself. I want you to see what can be done after WindowsHD.com created an amazing phone that can be tweaked to the sky. I customized the entire theme that you will see. Hope you like it!! It is called the Chanel Ultimate Theme. Thanks XDA-Developers and PPCGeeks along with the crew at WindowsHD.com for starting me in the right direction.
P.S. This is not the Dusk Theme. It uses parts of it but the theme was custom made by me.

Let me get this straight..... You sent in your phone so someone could transfer some theme files to it? Do you own a USB cable?
Why would I not just download any of the many themes that are already available on this site? You can customize them to achieve the same look with no cost and no wait while I send it in to a freakin' website. You = chump.
MOD EDIT - Removed advertising link
Re: Chanel Theme
Hi,
I sent the phone to WindowsHD.com because I did not know how to unlock it. The phone was locked along with the sim card. I tried a few things that I found online and messed-up the phone..so off it went. WindowsHD.com fixed my phone, unlocked it, flashed it and customized it and sent it back to me unlocked. I then started to experiment as everyone does on XDA with different mods. I used different parts from different theme packages and put together what I call "The Ultimate Chanel Theme". I have not seen one custom theme on any BB's that even come close to mine. My theme is clean, classy and it shines. It is the "best" $24.95 I have ever spent. The same phone at T-Mobile unlocked is selling for almost $600 and they are trying to call it the HTC HD. My phone blows away the T-Mobile HTC HD and it only cost me $24.95. I received the phone for free from Sprint. Also, for XDA-Developers along with the people at PPCGeeks, I cannot thank the teams enough for the great BB's they host for everyone that likes to learn how to mod a phone, like myself. So thank you for your positive remarks. I love reading positive feedback. Jen
Yeah, this is just someone trying to get you to look into WindowsHD. They're probably a scam website that'll take your phone and your money and you'll never hear from them again.
Just sayin, you boys need to avoid this one.
Re: WindowsHD.com
Hi,
I would love to see what your phone theme looks like. You have many negative comments with only 74 posts in a year. If you think you know it all, put up or shut up! XDA-Developers and PPCGeeks are BB's for people to learn how to mod phones. I messed-up when I tried to flash my phone. WindowsHD.com fixed my phone for me. When people drop-off computers at places like Best Buy to be fixed, do you also say the same thing about the guys who work there? Watch out, they may steal your data? You need to take a chill pill and use these BB's as a learning tool instead of making fun of someone who just started out learning about all this mobile phone stuff. If you cannot post anything positive, don't post at all. WindowsHD.com did not steal my phone! They are a reputable website. Jen

You are either referring to the HD2 or the Touch Pro 2 (this is a TP2 board). Either way, neither phone costs $600 even you bought it unsubsidized (no contract). Please do your research before spouting such claims.
HD2 MSRP $449.99 and TP2 MSRP $399.99

The HD2 has 512MB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor. The Touch Pro 2 has 256MB of RAM and a 528MHz Qualcomm processor. Spec-wise, the HD2 blows the TP2 out of the water. The capacitive screen on the HD2 is a pleasure to use, although I do prefer the speed of the TP2's physical keyboard.
Secondly, the phone was already capable of doing what your phone is doing now. WindowsHD.com did nothing that you could not do on your own. If you have the RUU for Sprint's Touch Pro 2, it will bring your phone back to it's original factory settings and it can be found online. All you need is ActiveSync and the RUU, both of which are free.
Strike two.

I could very well be wrong but I dont think its possible to overclock the Touch Pro 2 to run at 1 gig... Someone else can chime in but I think it maxes out at 7oo and change. Also by running it at that speed you can damage your phone, again.. someone who knows about overclocking can chime in and comment if I'm wrong.
Sooo yeah, no the touch pro 2's performance will NEVER be as good as the HTC HD2, bigger screen, better specs. The only thing the Touch Pro 2 has going for it right now is the physical keyboard. Which I'm certain once someone has a phone with a full keyboard they would be hard pressed to go to one without one.
I wouldnt go saying this person was coming off as a "know it all at all" In fact they were mearly just stating facts. Everthing you paid this company to do you can do yourself. Although I do understand people who are too nervous to do stuff themselves wanting to send it away. You could have likely found a cell phone booth in your mall that would have unlocked your phone for you... or you can just get companies to unlock it via email (they give you the code etc etc)
You have to of known that by saying "Look what I got... and only for 24 dollars too" was likely going to get you flamed just a bit. There are thousands of people who do what they did to your phone on this forum doing it themselves so, you're bound to run into a few who think you got the short end of the stick.
What they were saying wasn't meant to be negative I dont think. You clearly took it as such because you feel you got a great deal for what they did to your phone. Others might feel they were ripped off because they were charged 24 dollars to have someone flash a rom to their phone and install a few other cabs. All of which we can do our selves. If you feel good about your purchase. Good for you and thank you for sharing your thoughts on the company.
Now, regarding your prices there. I'm going to have to disgree with you on that, sorry. When the Touch pro 2 was originally released yes, it was going for 600 dollars off contract..... Now, yeah not so much. Anyone who is going to buy a phone like this is going to do their research and they'll know they can get it for a few hundred dollars. Someone who pays the same "retail" price from when it was originally released is an idiot and I just feel bad for them
You also said an unlocked phone can go from $300-$600??? Don't you think that price range is a little ridiculous considering the phones would all be the SAME. Hey here's an unlocked phone for 300... No no by mine its the exact same but it's $600. Hmmmm which one are people going to choose.
Good luck with your phone. Like I said, I'm glad you like your device and enjoy learning more tweaks and hacks..
Keep coming back!
Ps: If your phone is overclocked I would do some serious reading about it to see if it's going to kill the phone. I know at bare minimum it lessons the life of the phone when you push it into the red.

I think that with the same ROM, the HD2 will indeed outpace the TP2 - it has twice the processor, twice the ROM (storage memory) and twice the RAM (and RAM is the biggest issue with the TP2).
I'm pretty sure someone else advertised about that website before...they are most likely working for the company
My apologies if you're not...but like others said, all the graphics and fixes you have can be obtained for free and they are not even hard to work with. I'm glad you like your purchases but I would rather spend $25 on something more worth it

You really are quite the piece of work. You sit there and claim that the phone sells for $300 to $600 online when you show absolutely NO definitive proof. If you weren't so lazy, you would have clicked the links I provided earlier to see that the T-Mobile version of the phone (which you were referring to) sells OUT OF CONTRACT for less than $450.

I never said I know it all, so don't go putting words in other people's posts. Secondly, I've been a member of the forum for nearly 3 years, even if I only have 72 posts. I just lurk more than I post. Thirdly, you haven't even seen any of my posts so don't tell me that all I have to say is negative things. I refuse to allow good, honest members of this forum get scammed by people advertising a site that looks like it was designed by a 5th grader using DreamWeaver. Lastly, WindowsHD.com hides it's "Contact Us" link at the very bottom of the page and the only option you get is an e-mail link to [email protected]. I'm sorry, but I cannot trust a company where I cannot call and reach a LIVE HUMAN BEING.

Although it is true that some custom ROMs will make the phone more responsive and better at handling memory by removing bloatware, having more RAM and a faster processor will make a far greater difference than any custom ROM. Believe me, if the TP2 had the specs of the HD2 (minus the 4.3" screen, the TP2 is big enough already), the phone would sell like hot cakes! Honestly, what kind of phone would you rather have?
528MHz processor and 256MB of RAM
or
1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM
Oh yeah, name calling really helped you win this argument.
EDIT: Just for fun, I took a look at their products. Listen to this.

I've done ROM upgrades on my Wing (201MHz processor and 64MB of RAM) and it took all of 10 minutes to flash the ROM. The Wing had less than half of the processor and a FRACTION of the RAM that the TP2 has and I had the phone up and running in less than 1 hour. Also, MS Office comes with all Windows Mobile phones.
i'm not going to flame you but i will offer some advice. The next time you get a shiny new HTC device come to XDA and look around first (search is your best friend here) if you want to mod it. if you can't find what you're looking for request it, the people here are more than willing to help you out. there are plenty of tutorials and instructions here so that you won't screw up your device if you follow them.
If you're happy with what you paid for thats great!

3. Never give out your IMEI number.
4. NEVER, NEVER Pay for something that is available for free.

Xoom or gslate?

Ok im deciding between the xoom and the gslate. xoom supposed to be out in the next 2 weeks, gslate by the end of march. they're similar in specs. But should I sacrifice the bigger screen (10.1 inch) on the xoom for a "possible" smaller (8.9 inch) 3d screen on the gslate. Gslate is definitely capable of recording 3d though. I have tmobile as my carrier also but I don't mind signing a contract with verizon either since tmobile doesn't have 3g in my area yet (I guess they haven't have time to update our network cuz they're busy bull sh*tting about their 4g network). So which one do you think is better?
Ps: I've also heard that if the gslate has 3d screen, it'd require a pair of 3d glasses. I have no 3d tv either.

im leaning toward the G Slate for myself. Im on TMo and I prefer a smaller joint. I almost bout a galaxy tab then these showcased at the CES. I would prefer a smaller galaxy tab like screen for mobile purposes. If i want a 9-10 inch joint id buy a laptop or netbook. But, they will still get my money...lol
I am leaning towards the G-Slate for 2 reasons.
1) I am already a very happy T-Mobile customer and not a big fan of Verizon.
2) 3D. I already have a 3DTV and I enjoy it very much, I disagree with it being just a gimmick.

Maybe I'm crazy but I still think of LG as the cheap, low-end consumer appliance manufaturer. They made a microwave I had years ago.
And, I dunno, as such I'm skeptical about build quality. But I'd rather something on TMO or something without a contract.
The Xoom looks awesome but I dont think I want Verizon hiding behind every MB looking to charge me more money.
Yeah, I'm kind of a pessimist.
I'm leaning towards a Wi-Fi version of the Xoom. If they don't do a W-Fi version, then I'll get a ViewSonic G-Tab and flash Honeycomb onto it.
I kinda wanted the G-Slate, since it definitely seems to look more appealing than the Xoom.. but I don't know about the 8.9'' screen size. If it was at least the iPad's 9.7'' size.. I don't think I want to get any smaller than that. And then I hear that the Xoom's screen quality isn't even up to par with the entirely irrelevant to this discussion BB Playbook.
I don't know what to want ._.

Well I'm kinda bored with the Windows OS. In fact, I hardly use it at all anymore ever since I got my N1. But I prefer the 10.1 inch on a tablet though, but 8.9 really doesn't make much of a difference to me either.
To other commenters: LG isn't a cheap manufacturer man.....they're the second biggest electronics manufacturer behind samsung in Korea. And No, I'm definitely not getting a Playbook since I've never owned a Blackberry phones to sync it with.
Where did you hear about the screen on the Xoom?

Get the Xoom, assuming the price isn't outrageous. Until proven otherwise I don't believe that the 3D screen won't degrade the visual quality on the LG unit.
Here's a limited shootout based on what is currently known:

LG=GE. You remember GE right? Their logo is only stamped over almost every light bulb in America.

Well early leak says xoom could be out at the price of $699 unconfirmed, I hope it's the unsubsidized price though. Gslate has not yet been priced. LG is a good brand cuz I had this messaging phone before the n1, LG neon, anybody knows of it? It was a great messaging phone. Thanks for link too.
But I also don't think that the xoom is the nexus tablet either. It'll definitely be locked down. If xoom is the nexus tablet because it has no customization on it, then so is the gslate.
But hopefully lol both of them are going to be low price unsubsidized.

No, the Xoom is definitely the "Nexus Tablet". Not because it is pure Honeycomb, but because it is Google's lead Honeycomb tablet device. Just like the Nexus, apps will be developed on the Xoom, it will be shown in all those major app release videos like the Nexus One/S, and Google will use it to demo any tablet developments they make.
Although I'm about to contradict myself, the only reason I wouldn't believe it is the Nexus tablet is because it is tied to a carrier. And even has the Verizon branding on it. The Nexus One and Nexus S were simply buy it if you want to, it wasn't tied to anyone, and had no other branding but the manufacturer and Google.
In this situation, I believe it was "Google asked Motorola to make a tablet", not "Motorola made their own Honeycomb tablet cause they felt like it". I'm really assuming that Google will handle all the updates for the Xoom, and they used Verizon cause they needed to put the device out on a major network with amazing advertising power.

It had to be google who asked for motorola to make it. you've just convinced me the xoom is the nexus tablet because I remember at d dive into mobile, andy rubin brought the xoom with him. +1 to you.
It just pulls a trigger to me that google was using samsung galaxy s to be the nexus s because they didn't have 3.0 and the xoom ready yet. So they just did a quick search and found that sgs is the most powerful phone back then yet. But that didn't please everybody of course.
Like you said google need a powerful network to rely on, so verizon is clearly the winner. Let me add to that though. Google doesn't play favorite. They've already released their babies on at&t and tmobile except for verizon and sprint. Plus motorola has had a very good relationship with verizon thanks to the droid brand.
I think im gonna go with the xoom. But I'll keep waiting and weigh both of them some more when more official informations are out. But verizon and motorola better keep the promise to upgrade the chip to lte 4g. Motorola just ditched the cliq xt if that proves what I said.

Price Price Price.
Until I know if the Wifi only versions will even exist and at what price point no point thinking about it.
If it wasnt for Notion Inks hideous giantbezel design theyd be a no brainer because of the sky high price points being thrown around.

Should I wait for the Nexus 5?

I'm kinda on the verge of buying a Galaxy S4 or HTC ONE...
I kinda feel like our N4 is so basic...yeah it receives new updates from Google but...but just flashing gabillions of ROMS and I can't find the right one. kinda frustrating. I wish there is a tread or poll for BEST ROMS & KERNELs.
Please do us a favor, buy some tw crap or sense crap and leave us alone

HTC One is far from crap. It has Sense, but other than that the phone is the best phone out right now hands down. Specs and build quality.
Edit: If you have the money I would get The One. Nexus 4 is still a great phone for the price and the software will always be up to date via AOSP.
You're the only person that can answer that question. It all depends on your needs, how long your willing to wait, how important having stock Android is to you, etc.
The only thing I would say about your post is that there is nothing basic about the N4. It's frankly a great phone at a very good price. If having the highest specced phone you can buy (regardless of price) is more important to you than having stock Android then the S4 or the HTC One is your go. If you want stock Android, then just decide if you want the N4 or if your willing to wait later in the year for it's successor (which hasn't even been announced yet).

Get the N4 and be satisfied, the N5 (if history repeats itself) won't be available to the masses until March 2014... Then you can decide if you want to keep with the nexus line after that (you will)

Well I played with one, and I know people who have it. They all pretty much thought the same thing. The build quality is by far the best I have ever held. The screen is gorgeous. It has Sense like I said, but a lot of well known devs are getting it/already have it and AOSP is already on it(more coming). Some of the AOSP Roms are a little buggy for it since it's not an official phone to put AOSP on it, but that is to to be expected at first for an OEM phone.

Lol I will never buy another Samsung device. It can be a beast spec wise, but the build quality of their phones is garbage. They all feel like cheap kid's toys being made mostly of plastic and the likes.

I really don't have any problems with plastic phones...as long as the parts are easily replaceable ,. I'm kinda scared of getting HTC ONE and having scratches on it's aluminum body like the iphone or ipod. I have the bumper case for my N4 and no visible scratches still

Ok.. Now that I'm in the right thread.
Firstly Op there is a thread specifically for questions like this. "Google Nexus 4 vs any other phone"
Secondly. This phone is far from basic. No, it isn't bleeding edge tech but people don't buy Nexus devices for spec bragging. No Nexus phone has ever really been a leader in bleeding edge specs. What you get is bleeding edge development, updates and one of the best shifting communities on xda for a far above average piece of hardware. Usually once you get a Nexus device you are married to the brand.

I would rather have an aluminum body phone that a plastic one. lol. If I am going to pay that much for a phone it better feel great in the hands. Then again I take care of my phones and I usually don't damage then or drop them etc.

What i mean....is that our N4 doesn't have many standout features like the S4 or HTC ONE. Actually i just bought the N4 for photoshpers, getting new updates and it's price for unlocked is unparalleled . I just can't t find a Best ROM for our N4. Maybe some1 can start a POLL thread that shows...ranking of each ROM?. hehehe, I'm asking too much; anyways thanks for the insight.

To me the s4 felt better quality than the htc one actually. Htc one had awful screen design. S4 cheap plastic did not feel that cheap. As it regards aosp roms, whoever devs work for htc phones, there will always be some bugs+why would one that gets a device with amazing camera want to flash aosp on it.

No such thing as a best ROM. What exactly are you expecting out of a ROM? You have some of the best developers on xda producing for this phone. If you can't find anything to use here. You ain't finding it anywhere

I want an ROM that can incorporate new features from S4 , HTC and etc... so I don't have to buy a new one. lol , I was imagining before that our N4 is like a blank canvas that u can put anything on it...except for the hardware limitations. The only thing i like for now is P.A but i get bored with it. Also there are so many ROMS for our N4 , i'm not saying it's bad. But having a poll thread can separate the good one's from not so good ones... right>? Sorry for being so demanding. And thank you devs...for great FREE support.

I started such thread people got butthurt and reported it so mods closed it. Truth about nexus is that you have high quantity and high quality of the exact same thing. Nexus fans hate to admit it but that is the truth. You have 100 roms all great quality and all have the exact same features+layout. There are no ported features there are no ported rom. Htc or sammy devices have tw/sense+ aosp working. Tw/sense come with plwnty of additional features and if hou get bored from time to time you jist flash an aosp rom. While here you only have aosp, which gets boring after a while.
