HDMI mirroring on atrix / gingerblur / 2.2.2 question / 1080p avi's - Atrix 4G General

When I redirected my the output last night to my Sony Bravia, the dimensions on the screen were very thin/vertical, sort of like the phone. Is there any way to make it conform to true full screen / 1080p resolution? or is that just not possible?
What about if I have a high quality movie playing, ie: 1080p divx avi on the phone, and i want to mirror the output to the tv, to take advantage of the full screen 1080p bravia, and not that small smegment everything is chopped down to?
is any of this possible?

a question regarding phones with TV-out

since my question didnt get answered in the childish thread, here it comes again,
---------------------
anyways, a real question, why does it matter what resolution the phone has if it got TV-out, wouldnt it play the videos in their native resolution?
say I download a movie clip which is HR or standard US-tv "pixel/aspect ratio and what not"
if I play a tv serie on my old diamond 1 it plays fine, and that phone does not have the same resolution as the encoded video - so if the diamond were to have a TV-out, couldnt you plug it to the TV and watch native resolution, or have I missed something?

How much you paid for it, cause i believe th cheapest for these is about 15£, as mentioned in another thread.
I read the charger is needed to keep the battery full, as current tv usb ports are un-powered, but new powered usb tv`s are on the way that do.
I have a crazy idea .. Does anybody know if i plug hdmi out from my phone to my onkyo amp the sound on video playback will be 5.1? Or even play music will this work on the subwoofer unlike using 3.5mm jack. Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I did some testing with my newly acquired Samsung MHL adapter.
Here are some things i noticed:
Power:
You indeed need to have it plugged in, but you can use a normal computer USB cable to power it. Mind you, that the phone seems to use extra power when running with the adapter, getting more hot. Having it plugged into my PC, i noticed the power drain was high enough that the battery would actually (very) slowly discharge, if i was actively using the phone.
Resolution:
When sitting at the home screen, or any other screen excluding video playback, the picture will be a mirror of the phone. Output is 1080i but the picture is just the 800x480 picture upscaled. This means that you can't really use it to browse webpages in full resolution, and so forth. When doing movie playback, the movie will display in full resolution over hdmi.
Overhead controls will not show on the hdmi output. I've seen this mode active in the standard movie player, and in the youtube player so far. I can test any other apps if i requested. I'm guessing that when the hardware video decoder kicks in, it outputs directly to hdmi.
Unfortunately this also means that when using the gallery to display pictures/video on your TV, video recording will actually display in higher resolution then your pictures! Pictures are just displayed in standard upscaled 800x480, while video displays in full 1920x1080.
Sound:
When in mirror/upscale mode, sound is also "mirrored" to the TV, meaning you can use the phone as a music player or whatever to your stereo. I don't know if it does 5.1 when in video mode, as i only have 2.1 speakers, but i assume that it would.
I noticed one exception to this, which is the FM radio, which sadly only outputs to either headphones, or phone speaker. No option to play it over hdmi.
Let me know if there are any specific things you'd like me to test in regards to this.

[Q] 1080p Over HDMI ?

When I connect Micro HDMI to HDMI cable to my Monitor, it works in 720p mode. How to use 1080p i.e FullHD mode. My monitor is 1080p.
..... ..... .....
Also there is no option to increase/decrease vol, the volume just stays at 100%. Can't even access the sound/volume adjustments from settings app.
Is it possible t use tn7's speakers instead of monitor's speakers. How to enable TN7's speakers when connected via HDMI? ( My monitor's speakers are bad. )
... ... ...
I also want to try a USB hub with charging and pen-drive/Game controller/ connected at the same time. Is this possible that simultaneously it will charge also?
..... ..... .....
Well, to answer about 1080p, it will only output at 1080p if you are playing a 1080p video; there is no way to change the resolution for things like games, etc.
Second, I believe it only outputs audio through HDMI when that is hooked up; it cuts off the built-in speakers the same way plugging in headphones does.
As for a USB hub, I'll leave that to someone else since I've never tried it myself. Hope that helped!

Thanks rchrdcrg. I played some 1080p videos and it filled my entire monitor screen. Web browsing/riptide gp2 was still in 720p as you said.

Play DVD video in fullscreen mode?

I just installed a Android 4.4.4 Car DVD GPS player in my car (2011 Toyota Venza). Everything is working well, except that I cannot play video from DVD disc in full screen mode. There are always two black bars at the top and bottom of the video (see attached). I know for sure that picture format of the DVD is 16x9, and it plays properly in fullscreen mode with a regular DVD player connected to 1080p TV. However, with the built-in DVD application, there's no option to adjust the screen size of the video to occupy the entire screen (i.e. no black bars).
I've contacted the seller (Witson), and they said that this is by design. There's no way to remove these black bars. All video playbacks from DVD discs will experience either 2 bigger black bars, or 2 smaller black bars. This is very annoying to me since the video playback is not in appropriate aspect ratio (it looks squeezed).
Has anyone else experienced similar issue? Is there anyway to resolve this issue? Can we install another DVD playback app in place of the built0in one? If yes, can I get the APK and instructions on how to replace the existing DVD playback app?
Thanks

Screen record in WUXGA

Is there a way to record in WUXGA resolution (1920x1200)? The built in screen capture can record the screen, but only in 1920x1080 and it cuts off the extra 120 pixels and makes it blurry. I found some other screen recorders, but they only record in 1920x1080 and/or have a watermark and NONE of the record the internal audio. There's something about the audio driver that prevents them from doing so, but only the built in NVIDIA Game cast screen capture is able to bypass the audio driver.
