I'm going to get LG Optimus 7Q(quantum) but, have few questions! - Quantum General

Hi folks!
I'm using iPhone 4 white and Omnia 7 at the moment.
But I'm a lack of money and also after I saw Optimus 7Q, it looks great on me.
So I'm selling those phones, and getting LG optimus 7Q.
I have few questions about this phone before purchase it.
How is battery life compared with Omnia 7 or iPhone 4?
Does it have notification light?
How many often do you use the physical keyboard?
I heard LG is going to release new WP7 device which will be called c700, do you guys think it will have front face camera and better CPU and GPU?
Please answer me as soon as possible,
You don't have to answer all the questions, just answer me what you know of those questions.
Thanks guys.

My girlfriend currently owns it and she hasn't
had any problems with it. But i have the iphone 4
and i definatley would not trade the iphone 4 for
that piece of crap phone it cant really do anything
the iPhone can. As for the battery life it depends on
you use it really. She gets a good day out of it with
normal texting and some gameplay. There is no
notification light. The physical keyboard is kind of
awkward because of the shift key and fn key placement
but it feels good to type on. I dont know about the
new c700 but i definatley would keep the iphone over
the windows 7 phones. Just my opinon =)

Also going to be getting it soon, since this is much different from android (or rather android updates [or is it?]), will every phone get all the foreseeable updates? Will the quantum get 7.1 (or rather mango)?

Everyone craps on about the shift and fn key, but its easy to press and is rarely pressed...
This is the 3rd slide-out-qwerty phone I've owned and there is no perfect solution... If the shift and fn keys were integrated into the keyboard, it would stuff the keyboard...
You only really use the physical keyboard for longer emails and stuff... Quick sms replies I'll do on the touchscreen...
I'm still testing my new optimus 7q so I'll let you know about battery life, but I'm coming off an HD2 with WP7 so I'm used to charging every night...

Very satisfied
I'm loving the Quantum. I use the hardware keyboard quite a lot because I can thumb type fast and accurately without looking at the keys. After the first couple days getting used to the placement, I've had no trouble hitting the shift and fn keys when I need to, and never when I don't want to. The slide unlocking mechanism means it never pocket dials, and the proximity sensor works perfectly to eliminate accidental screen input when you bring it to your ear. Navigation is quick and responsive. I have Exchange OTA sync for my business e-mail, calendar, and >2000 contacts. I love the OTA sync with my free SkyDrive/Hotmail account. The GPS is sensitive and Bing maps accurate, but sadly, no free spoken turn-by-turn directions yet.
It's very easy to use the built in MFG app engineer menu to edit the registry and to set up tethering.
Battery life is better than any Smartphone I've used before. I'm in the habit of charging overnight, where it sits on my nightstand and wakes me up in the morning, and I check the weather on a very nice free app, but at the end of the day, I generally have 80% battery life left.

Do you just troll around the non-iphone places rubbishing other handsets?
When demoing my WP7 handset to all my iphone mates they all commented on how fast it was especially the bing search, find a shop, navigate to the shop...
All of my friends with iphones went to ip4 and half are OK with it, the other half regret it... Not sure what it was they did or didn't like...
One friend was iphone mad but got fed up with something and went samsung...
A mate who was staunch android went to ip4 and regrets it...
At the end of the day you get the handset that:
* Does what you need it to do
* Looks and feels good to you
* Performs well
* You can afford
* Is reliable
For me, its a WP7 phone... For others?..

The iPhone 4 has its bonuses and the windows 7 phones have there's. To each his own. But... you cant go from an iPhone to a windows 7 phone and expect anything compared to the iPhone experience. I loved windows mobile but dont really like windows phone 7 very much because of it being very locked down. No custom sms tones. No custom ringtones.

got one for wife and myself. very happy with it. the keyboard was a must for me as I can't type with onscreen keyboard.
Windows Phone 7 OS is great. With upcoming mango update you will be able to do custom ringtones and many more features listed on the XDA forums. At the moment you can unlock the phone and sideload applications for custom ringtones - using this myself. (for LG devices you can do this even after NoDo update because the device comes with its own registry editor).
The phone does not have notification lights anywhere for battery or new messages.
Battery life is OK and similar to other phones I would say. It all depends on how you use it. If everything is ON (3G, wireless, etc.) it will last a good day. If you have any of these functions off it lasts longer (e.g. sometimes I have to only recharge every two days).

As I see it, there are 2 major ways to really drain the battery: have wi-fi on for a long while (doesn't have to be connected at all) and play games (usually made with xna game studio) for a long while

Not sure about the wifi... I thought wifi shut itself off when phone was sleeping?
What makes my phone hot and drains the battery is games and video playback...
Either way the quantum has the better battery life of most handsets... After a lot of use at work I get home and still have over half battery... That's good for what I do with it...

dont get it
i have the lg quantum and it sucks i cant do anything with it and now i have to do a warrenty exchange on it and i only had it for a month i suggest u stay with the iphone 4 u be stupid toswitch the windows 7 phone anyways im looking into getting another phone

yeah me too. primary device. running 6.1 cause 6.5 didn't float my boat. I like it buuttt the processor is horid. I mean for the price, awesome. But when 15 year old's show off thier IPhones to me....it's a little depressing. If I didn't have a heart, I'd grab it and run into the darkness like a sneeze to a tissue.
Until a few days ago it was my daily phone. Now that I have my new phone ,which uses an all touch screen, I kind of miss the Shadow. I guess I can alternate. LOL
Heard the Shadow II's were trash in comparison the original. Best part of the phone was that there was so many resources for it and the ROMS
Too bad I finally got a ROM working on it until after I got my new phone. Sigh.

Tmobile Shadow and read and input Chinese
Hi,
I am new here.
I am trying to find out how to read and input Chinese for my Tmobile shadow..?
Thanks
I still have my Shadow....as a backup. I loved my Shadow. I believe I got my money's worth of use out of it. In fact, I found that I was running out of features to use on that thing. I switched over to the Touch Pro 2 when it came out (Aug 28 2009) to take advantage of the TMO 3G network, keyboard, and touchscreen. I've never got fully taken with the Touch Pro 2. It's a good phone, but just doesn't seem to scream "pick me up!". I now use a HTC HD2 since it came out on TMO (MAR 24 2010). It's darn good. The capacitive screen is awesome, but I still find myself missing the stylus from time to time. It's so difficult to select a tiny button with a finger! The processor speed is blazing fast. This is what all WinMo phones need for their processor. The 1 Ghz snapdragon processor lets me use the phone fast, like it's meant to be. It don't even have to remind myself anymore that it's basically a mobile computer.
But still, the T-Mobile Shadow is a great phone. I still pull it out from time to time to admire it's beauty. The Neo UI is VERY functional. I would say it's the precursor of TouchFlo 3D and Sense UI. It packs so much handy info with a great use of screen estate. Not to mention, the hardware looks beautiful! When I pull out this phone, people still ask me about it. The keyboard allows me to type amazingly fast! I remember my texts would just pound out because of how fast I could type on that 20 key keyboard. Last, but not the least, the navigational dpad/wheel. The phone has a pretty cool look to it. That circle looks techy at night. I used to browse the web a lot with the phone on Opera Mini. I loved navigating pages (going up/down) using the wheel. Why this dpad style isn't used more often, I'm not sure. That wheel was probably meant for the Neo UI. I never really used it for that. It just took too many wheel flicks to get Neo to go right or left in the pane. But, I absolutely loved the wheel in Opera Mini (just reiterating).
So what's my rating?
Sure, the T-Mobile Shadow is a bit slow sometimes. But it's fine piece of Windows Mobile equipment. It's probably one of the least appreciated Windows Mobile devices to ever reach mass-market. For all that has the phone now, be sure to visit All-Shadow.com
That website is the dedicated place to find ROMS, hacks, mods, etc. How many phone models have a dedicated website with that much useful info packed? Probably not many.
As for GPS, I used Google Maps with a small external GPS receiver that I carried with me. It worked great, and costed me only $20. It's super easy to set up, and the Shadow is plenty fast at getting GPS positions.
There isn't much thats missing from the Shadow for a mid-range smartphone user. It's simple, fun, and could be loved plenty. It just takes a little work to see what you want. Make it yours.
I never liked the Shadow 2. BIG Disappointment. It reeks of cheap plastic. The only thing I really liked about the Shadow 2 is the UMA calling. In fact, I might get a Shadow 2 for that feature. The slight bump in speed (processor/ram) just doesn't seem to be worth the difference between Shadow 1 and 2. I like the accelerometer on the Shadow 2. I haven't used it extensively, but how useful could that be except for pictures? I don't see much other use. Get the original Shadow folks! You'll be surprised at how good it looks.
still have it!!! best phone ever!!!
still have my shadow for a back up had some fun with it for some time #1 site allshadow
me favorite phone.
It was my first "smart" phone and I absolutely loved it. Sold it for an iPhone, hated it. Sold the iPhone for a G1, and though I love it, I still miss the Shadow. I got it back recently from my friend, unfortunately it's semi-bricked, and I need to get it fixed. I felt so happy holding it again, lol. It is probably the best phone I've ever used, apart from the slow hardware. My absolute favorite keyboard.
still have mine... went back to 2007 6.5 from shadow II

my only gripe is no voice & data at the sametime, other than that i am enjoying the EVO (atleast within my 30 day window haha). i am recently enjoying the linking of contacts to social networks and other items as well linking Qik to facebook to provide links to videos i posted without having to do it manually.
very cool phone, walk around in the airport listening to music, get the ok from pilot for electronics, switch to a movie, read the usatoday, send my wife a msg on gtalk, flip back to movie, etc etc etc
I love my EVO too which is why I am so sad that HTC put a cap on the graphics and I may have to return it...

+1 for this topic! I love mine as well. Amazing phone despite the negative reports (which I only experience a few of personally).
Good thread. I love my EVO too. The problems worry me but I still prefer it to the iPhone 3GS I just left, and to the iPhone 4 that is coming out. So far I haven't noticed touch screen issues or screen seperation. But this phone is still awesome. I would replace it though if there was a 4.3"-5" nexus one though
I am coming from a mogul, so things are night and day.
I am very happy with the evo...
yes I have seen wifi slowdown: max 5000kbps down, 1000 up with a only the dot as an indication; Performance degrades significantly if hand is placed over the kickstand area. Battery life is as expected for heavy use (12hrs, blue tooth & 3g data all day, 20% screen brightness). I see the screen lifting ever so slightly and can barely see light creeping though at night, but I got a seidio case which seems to keep everything snug, if it gets worse I'll do the black silicone trick. Barring the fact that I haven't found a file encryption package, or a way to easily back everything up (as i could with sprite backup on wm)......that is ...yet.
I love this thing and use it all day. The speech to text is awesome (I laught to think that I was worried about a keyboard!)
the wifee got one too. she is happy as she has never had a smartphone or anything that could do email/internet. I showed her the problem with the display(slight lifting & setting on a table-top slider), and she gave me a dumb look and said "so, whats the problem? " .... I left it at that.
you will never have a perfect production run, there will always be software bugs, lets home that HTC will improve their processes, make current customers happy (returns & repair and or replacements), and will get together with sprint for an action plan including the release with fixes to the current problems with a easy to root, android 2.2 update.

It's the way people have been conditioned lately...for instance...when was the last time you heard of a happy marriage? but I bet you heard of a **** ton of divorces and unhappy marriages...no one goes out singing high praises anymore, it's always complaints and *****ing.
On a brighter note, yes, the phone has it's problems...it wouldn't be a consumer grade electronic device if it didn't. I personally LOVE it.
No issues here. Coming from an AT&T Tilt, so consider my world rocked at the moment.

In all seriousness, I don't know that I have turned on my laptop more than once or twice since I got my EVO, I think that it hits the perfect balance of screen size and pocketability for light internet surfing/email/blog reading/Facebook/etc. such that it makes a full sized computer almost irrelevant. Just MHO.

Should I get a Samsung Vibrant?

So I've currently got a myTouch 1.2 that I bought from T-Mobile back in February and the phone is just lacking. I've been thinking of buying a new phone or even switching carrier's. I was looking at switching to Verizon and getting the Droid X, but then I stumbled across this phone while looking at some reviews. Wanted to get your opinions on whether I should just grab up the Vibrant or is the Droid X better?
No, but the Samsung Vibrant is INCREDIBLE.
Sorry, JK better answer coming...
My buddy has an X, I have the Vibrant (also I have/had a G1 and a Nexus One). The Vibrant is MUCH better than all of them, including the X in my opinion. The X first off has a locked bootloader, so no custom ROMs. It does not feel as good in the hand.... the screen is NOT nearly as good, poor color, 45 FPS vs. the near 57 FPS of the Vibrant. Everything about my phone feels faster/better.... the blur UI of the X is NOT good and the launcher is very slow. You will def have to use an alternate launcher. TouchWiz on the other hand added some REALLY cool features. I would check out the sticky where I touch on some of them.
Also, T Mo is going to be a cheaper plan....
If you were set on going to verizon I would get the Fascinate (the vibrant) or the droid 2 (which launches with 2.2 OS).
Hell yes get the vibrant.. wont lie. It has a gps issue that samsung is supposed to fix, luckily I'm not heavy into gps.. everything else is a dream on this bad boy..
I recommend it 1000 percent
That's totally a personal decision IMHO. I'm personally pleased with my Vibrant, in fact it's a far better phone than I expect it to be. With my Vibrant Rooted -> Clockwork recovery -> Lag fix all it needs is a True GPS fix for it to be perfect IMHO
I'm extremely impressed with the Vibrants benchmark numbers in Quadrant post lag fix

Remember this is with Android 2.1 I can't wait to see what we can do with Android 2.2
Phandroid OC artical <- check this out: some info on over-clocking goodness.
I and MANY others have no GPS issue.
Other than some reports on the GPS not being super accurate because you know we like our location on the face of the earth to be closer than 30 feet. As well the compas seems to be a bit useless, but I'm sure both are fixes soon in the future.
Personally I really like the Vibrant. Screen is amazing, the audio quality of the phone is light years above my old G1, internal storage of common 16gig. Comes with Avatar, which I personally could of done without, but hey we have it.
It does come across kinda iphonish, but honestly I've always wanted an iPhone, but never wanted to pay for it nor switch carriers so I'm kinda in hog heaven.
Great phone. I would highly recommend it. 4 of my friends bought the device after I did and they would tell you the same thing. I Have zero issues that most people are starting to have problems with. It's been pretty much smooth sailing with this device.
Sent from my awesome Vibrant using XDA App
Absolutely. Awesome CPU/GPU, awesome screen, and the best part is we have awesome developers like JAC, eugene373, and few others are working on the Vibrant. Few people are having issue with the GPS but I don't. Both mine and gf's Vibrant are running eugene373's Vibrant4 ROM and we see GPS signal lock less than 10 seconds all the time.

HAHAHA... I said the same damn thing to my buddy when we went to look at it at the Tmo store. "why do I want this fake iphone for".... then I turned it on LOL.
I found myself thinking "ohhh... look at all the pretty colors".
Was hesitant to keep the phone till the ball started rolling... Now, with some patience and the Vibrant dev team (not the CM team) I KNOW I have one of, if not the best android phone out right now, Period!
Vibrant all the way! Think about it... Samsung is pushing this phone for all carriers really hard! I can't even tell you how many commercials I see on a daily basis for it.
With the "Galaxy S" on all carriers, can you imagine how many people/Devs are going to be working with this line? It's gonna be huge! The ROMs going back, and forth from Vibrate, Captive, Fascinate, and the Epic with minor tweaks will be endless.
All I'm saying is, don't sleep on this phone, just get it!
Sounds pretty unanimous to me. I'm going to hold out a week or so and do shopping around. I'd like to be able to find a new one for a little less than the $500 T-Mobile wants for one.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
I just picked mine up today, and I'm so giddy I can't find the thread with all the current mods in it.
Like all phones, the Vibrant has its fair share of issues. Most of the issues, however, are liveable/controllable. The only major problem you should consider before purchasing the phone is the horrible battery life.
Dont think it has bad battery life at all coming from a mytouch slide im almost thinking the battery is better then that.
^^ WHAT?!?! try having a G1 and then tell me the Vibrant has terrible battery life. What a joke. Have you played with an Evo, and it's 5 hour battery life?
I come from a Samsung Omnia and the Omnia had a much, much better battery life than the Vibrant. My Vibrant can't even last a full day on a full charge. It typically lasts 5-6 hours and thats with moderate usage.
The Omnia is running Windows Mobile so it's not a valid comparison. The T-Mobile SDA can last days without a charge but I wouldn't compare it to the T-Mobile myTouch 3G
Yes, I love thise friggin phone! I want a backup so i can use this one drinking!
I love mine! I am new to Android and no where NEAR as sophisticated a user as most here .... bit I will be!
My new fave toy.
On my myTouch I get around 1 and 1/2 days use out of a single charge, as long as I don't leave my GPS turned on or do a lot using wifi. Anytime I've got GPS on, whether actually using it or not, my battery just drifts away. Wifi can stay on, but any heavy usage and I get about the same. Outside of that, not too bad.

[Q] Vibrant vs HD2

I've watched countless videos on Youtube and researched them both on google, but I just can't seem to come to a decision on which is better.
The Vibrant has native android which runs smooth AND records videos in 720p which is a really nice bonus, but the HD2 just has this massive screen which just looks like it kicks *** BUT can also run Android (with some bugs apparently). When it comes to battery life, which is better? My day is filled with heavy texting and the occasional web browsing but not really emails or networking since I hate Facebook and all that.
Any help here?
I've had both and Vibrant hands down. Not even a contest honestly. The only thing the HD2 has over the Vibrant is a little larger screen and even then the Vibrant is a better screen.
Here you go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745201&highlight=Vibrant+hd2
we're getting too many of the threads....
if you look at them side by side and open the same apps etc, you will see that the hd2 is garbage.
Vibrant indeed, was at the T-Mo store and mom was considering it for some bizarre reason, the T-Mo rep told her to not consider it, on top of all the obvious reasons posted in many threads, the device itself seems to be very buggy and the rep said most people have problems with the device
If you can afford a Lexus why buy a Hyuandai that looks like one? Go with the vibrant, my hd2 had freezing issues, slow browser and the app store reminded me of my palm treo 650, non existant!
I perfer the screen size and ergonomics of the vibrant, on a hardware note, and touch sensitive buttons means no dirt getting into the phone.
Did I miss anything?
Oh night mode, swype, and hummingbird ftw!
Sent from the best phone from TMO... Vibrant
The only thing going for it would be the price, depending on how disgusted the person is with the HD2 you can get one mint in the low $200's
Thanks guys, I realize this is an overdone topic but I really appreicate the responses.
I think I'm set on the vibrant since it has way better features with the exception of flash and a bigger screen.
I really appreciate it guys, but just one more thing, there IS a way to unlock this phone to get free apps and such right? >_>

If your talking about getting paid apps for free then you're not going to get any help here. Its called warez and very frowned upon here. Besides most apps in the market are free or have a lite version. And the paid ones only cost a few dollars so its not even worth it to pirate them.

Getting apps for free really does this community a dis-service. app developers are less likely to produce the higher end games and support for a system that is flawed, at least for now. Soon we will see emailed auth. Codes for every paid app., but will hopefully see those apps that are truly worth paying for.
Vibe the XDApp
Haven't used the HD2 but I'm in love with my Vibrant and it seems like a has quite a bigger fan base going.
Sent from my awesome Vibrant using XDA App
I don't mind paying for applications, but paying for an app that let's you use nice themes with different icons (on the G1 anyways) always seemed downright stupid to me. You're right though, it doesn't justify stealing them in the first place because some devs do deserve the money.
I had HD2 and i wasnt happy with it. It crashed the second day and apps were simply limited and useless. The OS wasnt bad but it wasnt good either. After i installed android i was more pleased but not for long when it kept crashing (bcs obviously is not perfect yet) Now that i have Vibrant i fell in love from out of the box. Everything is neat (especially when froyo 2.2 comes out) and so far havent frozen once. Battery never seemed like a problem to me, and i DO text a lot. Usually keep brightness down since the screen is beautiful as it is and less light reflect. Every phone have its own problems and HD2 have too many.
I have both..I like the led flash and larger screen of the hd2 but the color and pop of the vibrant is much better...I like my Vibrant alot more.....

Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA App
I now have only 2 days to return my Vibrant and go back to the HD2.<thinking> .........
Don't think it's going to happen!..Don't get me wrong, I really liked my
HD2 when I got it...got two, one for me and one for her.
She's happy with it coming from a Blackberry 8300 but, I've had
Windows mobile before and even with the slick Sense its like the
other guy said...Treo 650....5.0 touched up to 6.5!
I paid $500 each for those phones...Think I can get at least
half of what I paid? Man, I hope so.

Doubt it man, the hd2's lost value quicker than a...I actually don't have an analogy to go with that. Anyways they're pretty dirt cheap on craigslist but good luck selling them nonetheless. And in regards to this thread's topic, I suggest getting the vibrant and buying a cheap led keychain if flash is really important to you. Although I don't suggest trying to zoom in on your photos in android's default gallery app. Just trust me, it's not pretty.
And do try to search the forum next time you have a question. It's kind of getting annoying seeing these identical threads popping up every time I come to xda.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App. You may thank swype for any and all grammar errors.
i also have both.
you can now run android on the hd2 on top of the native windows OS via dual-boot. so far most of the builds are close to being 100 pct stable. right now, i'm running froyo with htc sense on my hd2 and getting respectable quadrant scores up to 1500. these builds also come rooted and with overclocked kernels. just some thing for you to think about if you're thinking about getting an hd2. i primarily use my hd2 for work and my vibrant as my daily driver.

Me too!!!
I’m still using 3 of mines up until I find a good replacement; I’m stuck on the open hardware and design. I really wish that I was good enough to upgrade the internals myself to something better. I’m waiting for D-two to finish up the bootloader so that I can do some full installs of either a light android OS or a Linux gaming/emulator OS.
Great mate!
Looking forward to get it fully working

Not using it daily anymore...but I still love the design.
Comparing it with the S3 I have now...day and night!
A shame the internet/browser is stone age compared to the newer android phones. Love the keyboard.
Had mine upgraded to 128 mb ram to get iGO8 running fluidly on it...have a lot of good memory's with it while using it while traveling trough the States with it! I will never sell it!
Just now I struggle to get the wifi connection connected...
I've just brought two of ebay I miss my exec! Plus one came with free porn!
I just wish there was a php/script editor for windows mobile...

I use mine daily. I have it running Windows Mobile 6.1 with the HTC Diamond interface. Mostly it sits on my nightstand as an alarm clock/radio... but in June it went with me on a trip to Japan... and in early December it went with me on a business trip to New Mexico for a week. I put a TMobile SIM in it, and I left my laptop at home and relied solely on the Universal. It did great! It plays movies, sends emails, takes calls, surfs the web... and it looks so unique I constantly get asked "what IS that?" .
I wish some manufacturer would bring back the clamshell design, I think the Universal is the perfect form factor... the keyboard is awesome.

I just brought mine back out of the closet. Still works great; I think I'll use it again.
killed mine lately- but are trying to have a new 128
It looks like my use/time is over...
It's a sad day for me. My other hobbies, projects, and life have all changed leaving my Universals and related projects behind. I'm selling my last 4 Universals together on Ebay and my 3 Blue Angels. I had just gotten the one I always wanted too, the all black O2 Exec with blue buttons. :crying:.
It's been some fun years, I hope to see everyone if they ever make a HTC Universal 2, it's not looking likely though.

I have had my Universal for over 8 years now, it has been a good device.
A few weeks ago, I popped a SIM back into it, and tried to make a call - no sound! I poked around some more, and my poor Universal no longer makes any sound at all, thru the speakers or the phone. The mic on the phone no longer works either.
It still sends/receives SMS texts, and still connects to the internet via Wifi and 3G, so it is still somewhat useful. If I can get it working again as a "USB Modem", I will keep it... otherwise, it may be time to let it go..... :crying:
Hi,
I bought one today (it was sold as defect device because of missing charger). Hope I will use it for some time.. I totally loved it when I was a teenager but I never had the money to get one (back then I used other nice devices but as you know - during childhood you never had enough money for that kind of stuff). Now I'm trying to get all the devices I always wanted to own (some kind of a childhood dream, devices like HTC Universal, Nokia E90, Palm T/X & Lifedrive and these things..).
But in daily use I have some other devices such as 5C, 6+ and some HTC and Palm smartphones.
I also had a problem with no sound - it was working only on headphones... till today I'm not sure what was the issue, but i tried to overclock processor, cleaning jack input and other stuff.
I am a proud owner of 128MB RAM version, but I don't use it daily
And mine still rocking!
