Charging my Xoom - Xoom General

Hey guys, I have a UK Xoom and the backend of next week I am off to New York for a wedding for a week. I want to take my Xoom with me however I am unsure if I can charge it with my UK power adapter. It's obviously rated for 220-240v will the lesser voltage of the US power supply still charge though my current adapter or will it not work altogether? I have no idea how I am going to charge it if I can't use my UK adapter. :-S

Can't speak for a UK xoom. I got, one from the US and use it in australia.
My charger states 100-240v and I can use mine here or in the US....in fact in many countries, I just need a plug adaptor, not a voltage convertor.

not a problem. just get an adapter.

you can check your local hardware store, or even best buy, etc.

You are quite right, I just asumed it wouldn't work in the US as it was a UK adapter but they do indeed seem to be generic adapters! Mine also states 100-240v, thanks Sickboy.

Buy in the US, charge in Europe

I'm looking to buy a WIFI Xoom in the US and want to know if the standard charger it comes with also will work with our 220 volt/50 hertz system? I understand the Xoom does not charge via USB and need assuranse I'll be able to charge it back home.
Has your charger got the 100-240V~50/60Hz electrical specification printed on it?
Just bought a Xoom in the satetes some days ago. You will be fine charging it in europe, checked it.
Someone posted a picture of the actual charger. Check here!
Works fine, I even have 2 of the chargers as i bought the dock station as well. They are multi voltage and work in the UK just fine all you need is a plug adapter.
Lordao
Thank you guys! Just what I needed to know. My Xoom is now ordered!

I ordered a WIFI only Xoom from B&H Photo and Video (www.bhphotovideo.com) on 27 March. Tracking shows i should get it today or tomorrow, can't wait!
Thanks Poisike, ordered a Xoom Wi-Fi there today too ... ;-)
If I hadn't already pre-ordered from Dixons I'd be placing my order too! Taking into account shipping and taxes though the price difference is negligable, even though I'd probably get it sooner if I ordered from the States.
No offense, but I don't think any electronic device manufactured in the past 15 years doesn't have a multi voltage charger. My laptops in 1997 were multi charger.
Besides, if you really want the device and you weren't 100% sure, you could always get a converter.

[Q] portable powerpack for iconia A500?

Is anyone aware of a portable powerpack/charger for the Iconia A500. I'm looking for something like the Proporta TurboCharger 5000. Because the Iconia won't charge from USB and this one doesn't seem to have an Iconia compatible socket I can't use this.
I'm sure I've seen one mentioned here but can't find it now.
Thanks in advance.
You need something with 12V out, portable packs of this size only give 5ish. You could try something like Solar Gorilla, but it's bigger and more pricey.
Tekkeon claim to have a connector for the Iconia. http://www.tekkeon.com/products-mypowerall.html
You can read a review about it here http://androidthoughts.com/news/sho...-tekkeon-mypower-mp3750-external-battery.html
I just got an Acer travel power pack from Amazon.com as a second/spare unit. Its the same as the one that came with the original machine, but doesn't have a plug adapter for Australia. Does for other countries, USA UK EU etc.

I think you've misunderstood my requirement. I don't need a PSU, rather I need a portable recharger pack (i.e. an external battery).
Energizer XP8000
I have been using the Energizer XP8000 for some time now.
Google Energizer XP8000 for details.
It comes with adaptors for cell phones and netbooks. I had to order the NB12 tip from their free tips for life (about $8.00 US) shipping. But it will fully recharge the A500 or extend the operation (probably an extra day). A bit pricey at about $100.00 for the device, but if you travel it makes a big difference. I have tips to recharge my Kindle and it natively recharges anything that uses a USB.

Charging a US N7 in Europe

Hi Guys!
I am pretty new on this forum, although i have been on xda years ago when i used windows mobile. Now i am proudly owner of a Nexus 7 16gb. I got this pre-ordered on the day Google announced it, and got my sister to bring it to me in the Netherlands. I own a C60, with pretty much no flaws except a very tiny screen lift which doesnt bother me.
Well, I started this topic because of the following:
Since I got the US version, it also came with the US wall charger wich doesnt work in the Netherlands.
Therefore i recently ordered a original EU wall charger to charge my Nexus 7. Charging with my laptop takes forever, wich seems to be a common problem with this nexus. Also other wall chargers don't work (dont show charge, or trickle charge. anyways, it takes forever).
Now i got this US > EU converter thing, so i can also use the US wall charger that came with my Nexus.
Since im now i cant post a picture of this converter, but its the first thing that shows up when u google: us eu converter
Only thing i am concerned about is the voltage. I got this simple converter wich only converts the plug type.
I have been told since im going from US (110v) to EU (220v), there shouldnt be any problems charging it using this converter.
But just to be sure, i would like to hear your opinions Is the original US wall charger compatible with 220v?
Thanks a lot!
You will be alright using the adapter. A friend of mine bought the nexus in the US and he uses one of those adapters to convert it to a EU adapter. The flat adapters will work in all of EU the round adapters will sometimes not fit in South European countries like Spain

Alright thanks!
So it will not be risky to charge with? I know it will charge with the converter, but is it safe for my Nexus?
Im asking this because i have already ordered a original EU Asus wall charger, it is not like i need it desperately to work.
But if i can use both EU and US charger with converter, it would be very convenient for when im not at home.

No risk at all. The charger will use the amount of power the nexus 7 needs to safely charge itself.

all you need is something like this

Buying N4 from US to use in UK

Given the price difference, if I buy an N4 while over in the US on business, will it work in the UK on our 3G networks? Are there any technical differences between the two phones (other than the plug for recharging from the wall socket of course!).

No, they are the same, N4 only has one variant. US version is the same as WW version.

OK, great. Would it make a difference to the returns policy if there was a problem with it. Could I return it from the UK to whoever handles it in the UK or is it not a worldwide warranty?
And, is the charger like an HTC one where the plug has a USB socket for the cable meaning I could use my current charger?

It uses the standard micro USB cable but the ac adapter uses a different output voltages. Nonetheless' it will still work.
I think if you will have to sent it back to U.S instead of the UK. I also think you have to return it to wherever you purchased your device.

Travel to Rome, Italy question.

If anyone here lives in Italy or similar or has traveled there with their 6P, I am looking for what phone charger I will need to buy to use while there.

Hello... This is the OEM Euro N6P charger... Only UK uses different models I think. Otherwise you'll be fine in Europe with something like that :good:

I'd pick up a couple EU schuko to US adapters, and your cigarette charger. That's about it. I would buy an external battery before I would buy a dedicated charger. Most modern hotels have a shaver outlet that will also work in a pinch. The only time I had a problem was staying in the old city close to the coliseum in two ancient (but expensive) hotels. They had a 3 prong variant of the schuko. Maybe someone living in Italy can chime in about the prevalence of the "vintage" 3-prong schuko variant. I only saw it twice so I used the bathroom shaver socket. Schuko is the EU standard.

Didn't even think about US/EU adapter! Just... Does US adapter supports 230 volts?
