[Q] Omnia7 WCDMA 850? - Omnia 7 General

Does anyone know Omnia7 supports WCDMA 850 (UMTS 850)?
I want know it's supported by hardware but disabled by software,
or does not have hardware capability of WCDMA 850.
My firmware is
PDA: I8700XXJK1
Phone: I8700DXJK1
CSC: I8700XSOJK1
I tried Diagnosis tool.
*#2263#
[2] WCDMA Band Preference
[1] WCDMA 850
then 'Band Pref:WCDMA 850' is displayed.
then tap [Back], WCDMA 850 is not selected, no changes.
I also choose [5] WCDMA 2100 then 'Band Pref:WCDMA 2100' is displayed,
and then tab [Back], now WCDMA IMT2000 is selected.
Why WCDMA 850 could not be selected?
I also tried,
*#1111#
11111111 then [Back] 8 times to enter test mode.
Then,
[3] UMTS RF NV
[1] RF NV READ
[1] WCDMA 2100 and [4] WCDMA 850
I found tx_comp_vs_freq_0 and _1 and [6] tx_lim_vs_freq is all ZERO.
Could you tell me these values is not all ZERO.
But I don't know WCDMA 850 works if these values set correctly...

I digged this topic quite extensively as there's no W-CDMA 2100 MHz in the country I live in.
Unfortunately, I came to a conclusion that like other Samsung (and other brands) phones, there will be two different hardware versions of the phone with different frequencies.
The Omnia 7 frequency range is the following:
GSM : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
W-CDMA : 900/1900/2100 MHz
The corresponding W-CDMA 850 version would be the Focus.
Hope this helps.

I think it's software locked.
Last night i was playing with the tx_comp_vs_freq_0 values and i found a site giving the correct values for another old samsung phone (not with windows phone).
Unfortunately those values were couples of numbers, for example 27,23,-5,... and so on but the diagnostic tool only gives the possibility of inserting positive numbers (there are not the + and - symbols). However after i inserted the first two values i exited and.... now i have the 3g symbol. I does not work, but I bet that with correct values it can work. I'm in Mexico with my european Omnia 7. Here the 3g network is 850 wcdma only.

Oh whaw thanks for this info! Continue experimenting, maybe you'll finally get it working on 850 I really thought it's hardware-limited after everything I read on this subject...

Dealextreme sells an omnia 7 they claim to be WCDMA, might be worth a shot to get hold of someone that has it.

I think that the correct values are these ones.
Any suggestion on how to input them with the limited options we have?
4 tx_comp_vs_freq_0
0,11,21,27
26,20,9,0
-2,-1,2,7
11,12,8,7
5 tx_comp_vs_freq_1
-2,9,18,21
18,12,4,0
0,5,10,17
21,21,16,15
6 tx_lim_vs_freq
-1,0,2,2
1,0,0,0
0,1,2,4
4,5,7,7

i tride to change those numbers but i cant even put 1 number =( , someone have more luky .. or any other mehod to write the file ?

I9000 working on 3G 850MHz HSDPA Band!!

Hello,
This was posted on the Captivate forum and I don't know if this is true. I'm actually looking for some people to try this feature as I don't have the I9000 (yet).
for_ap1 said:
When I opened a service menu (global version i9000), there was an option to enable 850MHz HSDPA band. It is disabled out of the box. I know that it works, because, at the place where I tested it, I couldn't get 3G data - only EDGE mode worked. When I enabled 850 band, phone found 3G network. Thus hardware is quad band for both GSM and 3G.
Thanks

Could someone test this feature? I mean REALLY test it? Test this feature in an area where only 850 MHZ is avaiable? I think someone using the i9000 on AT&T will be able to test.
Thanks
Tell us how to enable it...I9000 works on 3G on 1900 Band out of the box.
This information is not correct for the international version. I tested on on purchased from HK but used in Australia and while i can get to the service mode command, i get an error when i try to set WCDMA mode to 850.
Procedure below:
1. on the key pad, type *#*#197328640#*#*
2. Select [1] Debug Screen
3. Select [8] Phone control
4. Select [7] Network control
5. Select [2] and selection
6. Select [2] WCDMA band []
7. Select [6] WCDMA 850
After this i get
"MENU NOT EXIST"
"PRESS BACK KEY"
Current command is 187226
Except i'm doing something wrong it appears that i can't set the WCDMA mode to 850.
I'm pretty sure the bands the phone can operate in is a hardware limitation. So unless someone opens up the phone and identifies the chip that does this, I highly doubt u can use 850 band on it.

What if you select it to all bands?
never mind i tried it, just selects everything except 850, so its hardware limited, radio doesnt support it.
Would have been nice though

This is correct! but sometimes the radio will support bands that aren't enabled in the firmware, was hopeful .
Actually managed to enable 850...
Go down to combin bands, then enable it, then you can go back to wcdma band and select it there..
I dont have an 850 network to test on to see if it actually works though, doubt it does but worth a try...
update: nevermind doesn't work, checking info in the setup menu can still see it using 2100.

Maybe it's because you are actually using 2100 at that moment. You should try using 3G when in a 850 MHZ only region.
very awesome!
This works on the Samsung Vibrant on TMOUSA also.
Ok trying it so far so good... can someone tell me how to determine what band I am currently using?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

I get the same exact thing.... Can someone PLZ tell us how to do this?
interesting find, i'll need to test this out myself as i'm only using 1900 band
I got
"MENU NOT EXIST"
"PRESS BACK KEY"
too.
I think it's just hardware limitations. We can't enable thing we don't have on our phone. I'm hoping that I'm so wrong because my provider is using 850MHz for 3G.

It's a software limitation. Radio firmware doesn't seem to have it enabled, but if you have a Radio firmware that can enable it, you'll have access to that band.

Enabling 850 under Combi Bands certainly makes 850 available under WCDMA BAND. My gut tells me that just enabling wcdma 850 under combi and leaving the band selection automatic is the way to go. I am currently in a 850 + 1900 region and I cannot make the phone go to 850 only. However when I select automatic wcdma 850 goes away again.
I wish I had tried this 4 days ago as I was in an 850 only region on the weekend.

When i had the i9000 (now i have a Captivate for this specific reason) it did not work.
I did exactly what is described in the Vibrant post, select only 850Mhz WCDMA and WCDMA only and i got NO SERVICE where i do have 850Mhz 3g working in this area.
This might work on the Vibrant for some reason, but it does not work on the i9000.

3G on my Samsung Vibrant

So I recently just got a Samsung Vibrant, which is unlocked and (I believe) rooted.
My problem is, that only when I FIRST put my SIM card in, I had 3G service. Ever since then, it's been EDGE. How can I fix this?
Is it even possible?
And I am on AT&T.
EDIT: Mods, I realize I posted this in the wrong section, could you move it for me? Thanks.
AT&T have 3G on 850mhz and 1900mhz bands
Whereas Version run on 1700mhz and 2100mhz bands
From tnkgrl's experiments, we know the Vibrant at least supports 1900mhz but may not support 850 - perhaps the area you are in only has 850mhz AT&T coverage.
To test out which bands your phone can support - Go to the phone dialpad and enter:
*#*#197328640#*#* then select menus: [1] [8] [7] [2] [4]
This should tell you which 3G bands are available - I suspect 850mhz won't be on the list.

After I get to menu [7] it says RAT Selection Option is Restricted!
And I can't click anything else....
Things may be a little different on the Vibrant firmware, the selections labels are:
1. on the key pad, type *#*#197328640#*#*
2. Select [1] Debug Screen
3. Select [8] Phone control
4. Select [7] Network control
5. Select [2] Network Selection
6. Select [4] Combi Bands []
the Bell Vibrant is the same
however the T-mobile Vibrant might be different
t-mobile vibrant has 1700/1900/2100
So I am screwed.
I saw a thread that was trying to do a work-around but I don't think it will end up happening.
AT&T runs on 850/1900/2100
if you use the Bell model i9000m it will get full 3G on both 850 + 1900
if you keep Tmobile model SGH-T959, it will only get 3G when you are on the 1900 band, since only uses 1700/1900/2100 which AT&T doesn't use any of the other 2 bands
that's why you only get 2G (EDGE) since 2G runs on 850/900/1800/1900
Is there a map AT&T has I can look at that shows the frequencies? Or am I pretty much SOL?
Looks like I need to swap my Vibrant for a Captivate...good luck to me on that though!
Or you could leave AT&T....
I assume you bought your Vibrant outright?

if you bought it outright you have 30 days to return or replace, I did. I suggest doing it asap, the i9000/m hardware layout is a lot more responsive in my opinion, the hardware keys for the US variants have the search key which I never use and it makes everything smaller (no good). Goodluck bro

Power on your phone and 850 is now activated.

[Q] Does the European Optimus 7 supports WCDMA 850?

I bought an European Optimus 7 and it shows on the box "WCDMA 900/1900/2100, GSM850/900/1800/1900"
There's any way to put this phone to work on 3G WCDMA 850 networks at full speed?
Thanks
I own a Telus version of Optimus 7. My phone has the 900 3G band on it. I will tell you how to check whether your modem supports 850 or not. First, you open up the dialer and enter ##634#. This will install the MFG app, that will be accessible through your app list. The password that it asks is 277634#*#. Now you have access to the manufacturer test/setting menu. Proceed to the Engineer Menu, and then Modem Setting, followed by Band setting. There, you should see all the bands that are available, and WCMDA basically means UTMS or 3G. If you have the 850 band, it should be available in this menu. There are two other things you need to do before gaining access to this band, if available. But in order for me to continue, I need to know which carrier you plan to use this phone on. I am going to assume you want to use this in North America and you have already unlocked it. Let me know, and I shall help you further on making your phone functional for a 3G connection. BTW, I am typing this on my Optimus 7...the keyboard is seriously great, and if it wasn't for the loose buttons, I would have absolutely no regret over my purchase.
Thanks.
I saw here, there are these options available:
1.Automatic
2.WCDMA Only
3.GSM Only
4.WCDMA 850
5.WCDMA 1900
6.WCDMA 2100
7.GSM 850
8.GSM 900
9.GSM 1800
10.GSM 1900
11.WCDMA 900
Sorry for picking up this old thread again but there is no final answer on this.
The point is that I'm having the same problem, I have a european E900 and I can see the WCDMA 850 in the MFG settings. So is this working?
I'm going to Thailand next week and wanted to use True Move 3G which is on 850 Mhz.
Ok, just for the record - I am in Thailand now and the 850Mhz 3G Network from True Move is not working on the European E900.
Hope this helps for those who were looking for this answer.

ATIV S - Hidden Menu - Band Selector - Choose the band you want use !

Hello
I don't see this tips for the ativ s and i want share it ... for me it's great... because my phone in canada ( the lte model t899 ) and all others phone always connect to the 1900 mhz band in my area... ( the 850 mhz is available but network setting prefer 1900 mhz )
When i am connected the 850 mhz band i get great signal 3 bar ( i don't want talk db ) - vs 1 bar on 1900 ...
For this reason i like to switch to 850 mhz only... this feature miss me on phone i can't select the band...
This solution is great in some area in usa too... where tmobile is present by exemple... for people who want force to use the 1900 mhz band instead the 1700 aws band... ( some people say you get better speed on 1900 mhz where 1900 mhz is avaible for tmobile )
Type

You go to diagnostic mode
*#0011#
You see the signal in DB here ;p
Press on the screen the back ... then 1.... you are in the umts main menu...
Go to 1 => 8 => 7 => 2 =>
Select 1 for automatic (default setting)...
2 for your own umts/hspa/wcdma band and to force in 3g ... i choose 850 mhz here for me ;p you can choose wcdma all to force your samsung on 3G only !
3 for gsm ...
4 for lte ...
to revert in default setting... just put in automatic...
the setting is not erased when you reboot your phone...
Don't go to any others menu if you don't have any idea what is this !
I don't take any responsability if you fxxx your phone !
For sure this tips work for the international version too
Enjoy and have a nice day !
( PS : if you have or go from a samsung s3/s4 or others samsung you see this menu in many others phone and there are some tweaks on this phone you can unlock for free... my phone is unlocked... i can't test if via this menu you can unlock the phone for free )

[Q] How to unlock the default wcdma bands of LG G2-D803

Hello !
I m using LG G2 Model D803.
I try to connect 3G but i could not.
I checked and i am in 3G zone, my APN is correct as per Mobile service provider.
After alot of searching on internet and reading threads and blogs,
i came to know about 3845#*803#, from where i went into hidden menu --> WCDMA only --> Modem Settings --> Network Mode.
And i found that the default band of WCDMA is 850 Mhz, while the service provider here in my region have WCDMA band of 2100 Mhz.
Therefore i want to know how to change the default band of WCDMA from 850 Mhz to 2100 Mhz.
Another thing, which i am not sure about is when i select only WCDMA or HSPA, my mobile signals gone (zero) !!!
Is this the reason of having the default WCDMA at 850 Mhz and service provider is providing 2100 Mhz.
I am really confused.
Please help me !!!
I have attached the screen shot of hidden setting where the WCDMA is 850 Mhz.
still waiting for reply ?
Engineer mode LG zone3
