New Ideos x5, what to do first? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I am getting mine tomorrow. Any advices on what to do before use?
Any updates? stock rom?
Thx

i'm still using the stock rom and I have the phone for 2 weeks
I'm impressed by the overall quality and speed, my previous phone was an ETEN X500 which was, of course, quite slow compared to the Huawei.
The only important things to do with the phone are:
1) change the launcher, stock launcher aint that good
2) change the dialer, I'm coming from WM-6.5 and no dialer is as good as microsofts, "dialer one" seems to do the job
3) get a keyboard that suits you!

used smart keyboard pro and dialer one.
witch launcher is good?

You can use ADW launcher, Launcher Pro, Go launcher EX for a far better and customizable experience.
Of course search on market for "launcher". Every day appears one for every taste.

went with the launcher pro.
how can i remove the apps that are preloaded?
root?

Me too need help!
I also gonna buy this phone. How to improve performance by using stock rom? I maybe not ready to flash custom rom yet but maybe will flash new kernel to OC to 1ghz because i want to play games. Is do OC is simple? Does HD games is supported by this devices?

I personally use GO Launcher and I really like. Haven't used Launcher Pro, just seen it in a friends Optimus 2X
I think Go Launcher is better, but this is just a thought
As for stock programs, I'm trying to remove them with Titanium Backup, seems to do the job but I don't know if there are any better ways.
I think that the best thing to do is to wait for xda-cookers to create a nice fast rom and apply it!

will try the GO launcher to. thx.

GO Laucher is slower but has free widgets.
Laucher Pro is much faster.

There is not much you really can do to improve performance without changing rom. Try another launcher and see if that makes the appdrawing faster, but otherwise dead end I would say.
The performance is though enough for many users.
Overclocking is not hard, eg SetCPU.

If you want to overclock, all you need is an OC kernel but your phone needs to be rooted (i think z4root or Androot can do that), then download a kernel and flash it via recovery, you can use stockwells recovery or the other guys recovery (genokalars...i think)...then download SetCPU

First thing, remove all the bloatware it comes with
Use GO Launcher, the stock one is ****.
Root the phone if you want, gives you so much more power.

I'm sorry, I bet you get a million of these a day. But I'm lost.

So, I've been tinkering for the last day or so and finally understand rooting the phone and flashing zips, but that's about the extent of what I've learned. So far I rooted it, set it up with Darchdroid 2.8, and set up SetCPU which may or may not be doing anything at all. Anyhow, there are a TON of ROMs out there and I see mention of "kernels" which make the phone even faster? This is the stuff that confuses me. I like Darchdroid because it gets rid of Sense (well, really just cus I can choose how many screens I want to use), but I miss my HTC widgets and all that and the phone is kinda empty and boring now (lots of apps to replace).
Basically was just wondering if anyone would mind giving me the rundown on some of this. I want to use the most compatible 1) version, rom, kernel, and clock speeds to attain a faster, more efficient phone. Darchdroid is faster but I dunno if it can be combined with kernels very well, and all that jazz.
Basically just very lost, talk to me like a third grader please.
"T-t-t-TODAY JUNIOR!" (quote from Billy Madison movie, when he's in the 3rd grade)
If you miss HTC Sense and all those widgets, etc., I suggest going back to one of 3 ROMs...

All 3 are very stable and smooth versions of Sense ROMs.
This is the OC kernel you should use with any of those: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750170
As for setcpu settings, it will just be trial and error to determine what works best and smoothest with your particular phone. All of us here are probably using slighty different settings that fit best with our preferences and usage. Just know that not all phones can boot at OC speeds, so if you flash an OC kernel and get a bootloop, it probably means your phone can't handle it.
Just FYI, you can install a free launcher from the Market that will let you customize your number of home screens. I know Launcher Pro and ADW Launcher both have this feature and are a couple of the more popular ones. And they'll work in any ROM.
Good luck.

Notification Menu Power Control Widgets

I am using the stock 2.2 rom for my G2. I have it rooted. I am wondering if someone has made the Notification Menu power control available at the following URL for the G2 Stock 2.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9885714
Thanks for any help/suggestions.
There are probably some, but I've never looked into adding them to stock as CM6.1 and CM7 both have them integrated by default.
One thing I remember from trying to add these back when I had my Evo, is that it required a Deodexed rom to get to work properly (just from my experience). Trying to add these to the stock rooted rom on my Evo caused me nothing but headaches, and always seemed to interfere with other theme-ing. I just figured if I have to flash a deodexed stock rom, might as well just flash CM6 haha. Maybe someone can chime in that has successfully done this on the G2 though.
I looked for ways to add it to the stock 2.2 and in the end just went with a Cyanogen mod as it seemed like an easier option in the long run.
Is there a reason you want stock vs CM?

its my first android phone. Still learning all this stuff. Played with CM a little and a friends MyTouch 3g and it seemed really slow (maybe it was cause of the phone). Does it run better on this phone
Lightning fast at stocks peeds on my phone. ADW is a bit sluggish but easily replaced with ADW EX or Launcher Pro.

Most of the slowdown can usually be attributed to user error, or ADW. In my experiences, ADW is much slower in scrolling etc. than ADW Ex, Launcher Pro, and especially the stock launcher.
I'd say give it a try and see how you like it. If you don't, you can always flash back to your backup of your stock ROM. I just think when it comes down to getting notification bar widget controls, flashing a new ROM is actually easier than trying to get them on the stock ROM unfortunately.
Thanks for the info guys!
Ill try it out and make sure i replace adw. What do you guys suggest? CM 6.x or CM 7.x

CM7 is stable. Just make sure to do a full data/cache/dalvik cache wipe before you flash. You also need to flash the Google Apps when you install it so be sure to check that box in ROM manager when u install.
If you're looking to take baby-steps, I'd try CM6 first.
Results may vary, but I'm getting 40+ hours of battery using CM6 as opposed to 20+ on CM7. Same moderate usage.
Once a week I flash a nightly and give it two days before I restore to CM6 to get my GPS and battery life back. They'll have it stable soon enough. Just have to keep supporting our amazing devs.

[Q] Help with my ROM development.

Hi XDA, I'm currently in the process of making a new 2.3.4 ROM called CAE (Complete Android Experience) I've added new features and changed the UI but now since the ROM will be heavily community orientated Im after your input, Which apps would you like to see included? Do you favour looks/performance? and generally who's interested in using this?
Many Thanks!

If you can make it fast and all to work, then I use it!
ADW Launcher for deafult launcher is good!
and good WiFi files have: CM7 or Japanese Jellyfish RLS11..?
So if you want good WiFi then try CM WiFi files (Newest Nightly)
And if you add speed tweaks to build.prop then the ROM is much better!
build.prop:
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=30 to save battery
this is maybe good:
ro.product.multi_touch_enabled=true
ro.product.max_num_touch=2
if your build.prop don't have these then add to make your ROM much better:
media.stagefright.enable-player=false
media.stagefright.enable-meta=false
media.stagefright.enable-scan=false
media.stagefright.enable-http=false
there is something: http://alldroid.org/Default.aspx?tabid=40&g=posts&m=5696
maybe with this website build.prop boot sound texts you can get the boot sound to work..?

I don't agree, I find ADW quite laggy.
The EX version is excellent though.

OK! I use always ADW Launcher because It is faster Launcher which I used on my JetDroid ROMs and Blade CM 7.# ROMs...
it is maybe faster than launcherpro launcher but whatever!
EX version lagging on my JetDroid ROMs and it's slower than ADW Launcher? :/
If ADW Launcher is not good then leave original or try touchwiz 3.0 or Launcher Pro...?
=)

I find it around the same as LauncherPro on CM7, for me Stock the fastest.
TouchWiz would certainly be interestisting, LauncherPro is always a good option.
Personally, I'd say just leave it as the stock one since people can always download ADW/ADW EX, LP etc without much difficulty.

if you write more here : which works which not and which need fixing... etc.
and Screenshots of your ROM then people see that does it look good, etc.
I will not try it yet because first I need to check that can I get apps2sd to work on GSF, because without apps2sd I do not use ROM:s ...

Official ICS or Cyanogen?

Hi all. As you might have heard the official Samsung ICS update for our beautiful Note has started rolling out in Europe today. I'm just wondering whether people will be using it or whether they are happy with their custom ICS roms. What are the pros and cons of each?
I'm still on imilka's Cm9 v2, as it works flawlessly on my Note. But I should update soon and want to know what people more experienced than me think (I've only been playing around with flashing for a couple of months)
Thanks

I m going with Official ICS as I feel that our phone is incomplete without Touchwiz apps like S-Pen, S-memo, etc.
The day I will lose my Stylus, I will jump straight away to CM9. LOL.
CM9 is purely for better performance whereas Samsung ICS is for better user-experience.
I stay with TouchWiz Apps but other Launcher.
I think Nova Launcher is the best Launcher, those Folders and Docks are awesome !
Cyanogen definitely as I don't want this crappy Touchwizz on my Note.

change the launcher then, there are alternatives out there
TW-Launcher on ICS is smooooooooth as hell but i would miss the custom docks, custom icons and those great folders from Nova Launcher !
Cyanogenmod.
I don't think I will be writing formulas on a phone..........
Inviato dal mio GT-N7000 con Tapatalk 2
CM9 is great, but I also do not wanna miss the Stylus-Apps now even better with Premium Suite...
Official ICS.
I tried a few AOSP roms, but can't live without proper stylus support. I've gotten too used to it.

Why should I have a heavier ROM with useless things when I can have a light ROM smooth and fast and everything I need
How much of a performance difference is there between official ICS with 3rd party launcher and a custom rom? Would you feel this in everyday use?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
I'm sure even without Touchwiz, there will be awesome developers porting Samsung apps over in future. Currently, you can choose both of them to your preference. If you usually take notes and enjoying Sammy's apps then by all means use the stock ICS ROM.
After using imilkas ICS/CM9 and then going back to GB I realised how much lag there was on the note and stock roms... so I guess my question would be...is it as seamless, performance wise, as CM9? (In terms of basic features and performance like swioing between pages and launching apps and transitions ?)

I'm on CM9 but would like to try the Stock ICS, but that's more because of a compulsive flashing disease I must have. Well in fact I would like to have FM radio app, so that's my excuse for flashing the official ROM. I can always install another launcher like nova and still use Samsung apps anyway ? I mean touchwizz is not just a launcher right, it's a whole framework that's "there" even if i use another launcher ?

Thanks for the answer. As I read TW won't work well in tablet mode, I guess even if i use a apex launcher for example, I won't be able to get a working tablet mode with official ICS + apex launcher ?
I think I'll give the official ICS a try before giving my final judgement .
Anybody knows if the euro ics ROMs support RTL (I.e Arabic text)?

Under GB I tried stock ROM and custom ROMs, the difference between these two kind of ROMs was noticeable.
And I like things clean, so I don't want useles things on my phone.
All ROMs I use are also cleaned by myself using System Tuner Pro and removing all applications I don't use (like Email for example, I only use Gmail, wallpapers, animated wallpapers etc.)
And AFAIK with stock ROM I cannot remove Samsung's crap so CM9 is my best friend.
With OpenDESIGN coming in the next few hours, you'll never say that you miss S-Memo and pen gestures anymore
I've come straight from CM9 and despite the annoyance of Samsung's bloatware I feel that ICS is a lot smoother on the official ROM. The only thing I would like to know is if there is a way to get the stock ICS keyboard. The ones in the Play Store seem to been twatted about with and don't seem to offer the proper ICS autocorrect infrastructure unless I'm mistaken.

Good Rom?

Hello, i want you to tell me which Rom for my Nexus7 are the best.
I really like to hear your Opinion, because i am on CM10, and the Battery Drain is to much.
Btw, can i save my Apps +Save for my Next rom?
EDIT: is there a rom that Supports Circle Mod Batterie AND(!) Tablet UI?
I think your best bet is to try each and experience it yourself. What's good or the best for others might not be for you
i tried them all and honestly i went back to the stock rom. i use the SPB shell 3d and just love how it makes the N7 just pop.
under the settings tab of the SPB shell 3d there is a landscape mode. no need to adjust any settings in the system folders just select the landscape option and your done.
cheers
Uhh, looks nice.

With a kernel as powerful as the clemsyn battery savings really isn't the goal on my device. But honestly it really isn't that bad. Best to use a aap like setcpu or system tuner pro so you can set a lower CPU speed like 1.3 when on battery. at home I have it at 1.8 when the device is unlocked. Best thing about the setcpu profiles is that my n7 always boots at 1.3 but when you unlock it the nitro kicks in. Heat isn't a issue with interactive and cfq. n7 needs 1.8 it's there and when it doesn't it cycles down. Also if I was traveling I would flash a milder kernel for battery savings.
Spb shell 3d is pretty sick but expensive like 15 or something in play but worth it. Thx I like my n7 very much
I tried several including MoDaCo, Xenonhd, cm10 aosp, and Sgt7 - the last one I stuck with. Right now I don't need sick over clock, I do need stable, I like the modified launcher . The only issue I had was installing with the 0726 gapps and dev included 0810 gapps in post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788518
Good, i try Stock rom with spb shell.
Last question, can i add a Circle Mod/Percent Mod for my STock Rom (JB?)
or can i add Images somewhere?
