A Question about Cases - Acer Iconia A500

I'm normally not one to run out and pick up a device right away, but this one was calling to me. Though I have to admit I'm a little worried is that there seems to be a almost no options as far as cases go. There's the official Acer one, and then there's a +$100 case, but as far as cases built for the A500 that's all I can find. Is that fairly common for a tablet that's been out as long as ours, or is it a sign that ours' will not be very well supported by the accessory makers?

I just bought the crappy Acer one. It's better than nothing. I for one hope otterbox makes one.

yes indeed I have the commuter on my Inspire.

I just posted to the Otterbox facebook wall asking if they planned on making one. Maybe if enough people also posted they might take notice.

Whose considering a Synapse Phone

With all N1 alternative threads, I'm surprised I haven't seen the synapse phone mentioned more, so I thought I would start a thread
I am quite heavily considering it. Tho I think I wanna wait for series 2, just to make sure custom rom community is there. Being rooted and unlocked bootloader from factory. But I think I should buy one to ensure there is a series 2
So who else is considering one of these synapse phones? To maybe replace their N1

wtf how cheap is this phone to start with? They're charging you extra for the most basic smartphone features...like a 3.5 mm jack!
*edit*
just modified my phone to personal liking, almost $900!
Read the remarks for a good analysis:

Not going to happen.
So not a scam, but prob not gonna happen considering company resources

Man that seems like such a good idea....
The first day someone posted about it on gizmodo or something, I went and looked at the prices. I "built" a phone using all of components that would put it above similar phones spec wise, it was going to cost about $900 USD.
Considering I spent my entire summer savings on my Nexus One ($580 + ~$20 for screen protectors, case, etc = $600) It's not necessarily a good or bad value. If I had that type of expendable income, I would totally go for it!
The concept is cool though - make a phone that caters to your needs. I wish an American company would try this! Maybe Google? "Nexus 2 - Have It YOUR WAY!"

hahahahahaa. Somehow, equating a $500+ phone to fast food just doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth. lol
It's an interesting idea - I won't be in the market for a new phone until September 2011 so will keep an eye on them until then. That should be enough time for them to succeed / fail.
I like the idea of a 3 year warranty..
sounds like a good idea, but they are being jackasses, 256mb of ram as the basic mode want more ram? well pay up, which is just plain 2008 or wifi, 3.5mm as options when these are basic necessities for a smartphone.
Seems more like a dream idea than an actual production device

Alright I'm bumping this thread up just to show everyone there's a better alternative to the Nexus S.
And the website is pretty much working for me now. Though there's no option for me to preorder yet, but I'm more excited about this than the other phone.

If this true I will buy one for sure...just wanna see some in the wild and read some reviews...I will most def pass on the Nexus S

Prices are not that awful for what I need, I end up at 500 or so USD
Obviously, I didn't put 4G and hdmi, radio, etc. since I don't use them and 4G won't be appearing in Canada for a while ^^
I'll see how it gets when they start actually selling the phones...it's an awesome idea honestly, I just hope they succeed! Go germans go
3 years warranty? Amazing if true. That alone is worth it! And finally a xenon flash for an android phone.
Custom spec phone?
I would say you're on your own as far as custom ROMs go...?

[Q] Xoom knock-off: Too true to be good?

I know (almost) everyone is still upset about missing the steal... um, deal of the year, but does anyone know anything about this:
http://www.applelover.org/android-30-p-1088.html
I saw this and instantly thought SCAM ALERT!!! But what if it's not? If it's true, this can certainly make up for missing that other deal. Also noteworthy, this is a presale. Another thing that I was leery of with the Xoom already officially in stores...
Yeah, I'm sooo calling shenanigans on this.
So many red flags all over this.
Besides, shipping date May 31? Yeah..
They must be working on a different calendar than we are, because you only get the special pricing before "28th Jeb"
Scam... order by Jeb? Jebuary? Oh yeah that's the month that comes after Nevember and before I-lost-500$-uary. If it's a realty good deal you are being taken for a ride.
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
A co-worker showed me this and I told him don't jump out the window for it till I poll the community. That Jeb part definitely flagged me!!
The name of the tablet also seems to be photoshopped onto the Xoom... It might be a scam or just a very cheap knock-off from Shenzhen. Either way, I am still waiting for my 25% Xoom

Sad part is, I was investigating this for my buddy around the time you guys were making off like bandits. He sidetracked me from my normal XDA browsing time!

If you look at one of the photos, on the back of the device they have tape over "XOOM 12".

I thought I recognized that long sleeve black sweater... He got some of the pics from these guys i think. (Look at silver sticker on third pic down). They are the same unit.
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2011/01/motorola-announces.ars
Looks like a pic from a beta version of the XOOM. My opinion, you're better off spending your money on 500 fortune cookies and playing the lottery with the numbers on the back.
I can't say 100% but I think it is a scam...I mean even knock-offs don't look 100% the same as the original.

Wow, thank you op for letting us know about this great deal. I did not want to miss out on a great deal like that 25% off coupon.
I quickly ordered it and I got an immediate email saying that it will be shipped on Mirch 2, 2011. That was quick.
I was about to spend $500 on my weekly ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) but I jumped on this great deal instead.
Thanks again OP.

Case-mates for the Atrix.

I've been a huge fan of case-mates cases for the longest time. I sent them an e-mail to see if they were making any for the Atrix, and they said that they make cases as per how many requests they get. So, if anyone else out there is a Case-mate fan, here's a link to request: http://support.case-mate.com/index.php?pg=request
I requested. Even though I already have a case.

Does the official Samsung Screen Protector impair S-Pen functionality?

Heya everyone,
First off all I would like to say it's great to be here on the XDA forums. I look forward to my time here.
As for this thread, I live in the Netherlands and screen protectors like the Spigel SGP aren't easy to come by if you don't want to pay for absurd shipping costs. So I was wondering if the official Samsung Screen Protectors impair S-Pen functionality. Since its Samsung and the note 8's strongest point is the S-Pen, I would think not. But seeing how I'll have to fork over 25 euros, I just want to be sure. The only alternative to me seems a Belkin screen protector.
I would be grateful if somebody could provide some insight or experience. Thanks!

Welcome to XDA.
I have not tried the Samsung ones but am using just some cheapo "dry apply" ones off Ebay and they do not interfere with the S-Pen. Would think the Samsung ones would be fine as well. Might not slide quite as well but that may actually be a good thing.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Thank you CC (hope you don't mind me shortening it)!
I feel a lot more confident now. I use the same type of cheap protectors for my phone but for one reason or the other, I just want to invest a bit more in this tablet. It's my first one and I am incredibly happy with it. It's just very powerful and versatile. Once I get the Samsung Protectors I will let you know how they do.
Thanks again for the insights!

I have applied them and after a full day I can say there is no reduction in S-Pen functionality. I can't, however use my finger to write on S-Note anymore, but I actually can't remember if I was able to do it before. Anyway, besides that minor point, everything seems excellent.

Like CCallahan says, this thread is indeed not about cases but screen protector. But mistakes can be made ofcourse. As for your problem, I think the magnet might have temporarily tempered with the hardware controlling the screen. Try to stop using the case for a while to see if it works. If it doesn't, send it to Samsung for reparation. This should fall under the warranty if the case is indeed the problem. The case I use is the Belkin Cinema Stripe cover. It's pricey but amazing quality if you ask me. You can check it out here:

Cracking camera glass???

Anyone experience this yet?
http://9to5google.com/2015/11/07/nexus-6ps-visor-back-camera-glass-shattering-cracking/
Yeah that definitely sucks.
Is this the "production issue" that Google CSR's were talking about? If so I am glad my phone is still pending. I hope this is not a wide spread occurrence.
In the Reddit thread I read about this someone asked if they could (the 2 or 3 people this happened to) post the build date of the devices but I don't think it has been provided yet.

Got to be honest...should be receiving mine at the end of the month and this plus the bending, paint chipping and the warped aluminium from the official cases. It's a hell of a lot of money, $700+ in the UK, to throw at a phone that seems to having its fair share of problems. I'm coming from an HTC M8 which has been superb! Also a bit nervous about it.
I find it hard to believe that Google would let hardware this inferior carry the Nexus name. I am not sure what to do with my phone at this point. I guess I can say it on a pillow and never takes it out in the real world.
