[Q] Question-Splashtop - Eee Pad Transformer General

I have some questions about the splashtop on the transformer I want to ask:
1) If you connect a mouse to the transformer when you are using splashtop, will the right click bring you back to the last page?(i.e. does the right click functions properly? Or you still need to hold left click 2 seconds for a right click?)
2) I know splashtop can work over port forwarding via 3G. Did anyone tried if it is laggy or delays a lot when you connect splashtop over 3G or other wifi(not home wifi).
I have read through a lot of posts already but still can't find any answers. Can someone please help me try to use splashtop with their transformer(Since I haven't got one). Thanks a lot and will appreciate it.

1. right click will bring you back to the last page..i.e. exit the splashtop to the mycloud screen..
2.It really depends on how fast your host can upload and the network latency on the receiving end... in general..3G is never good in latency....i can get up to 1000ms latency if I use the 3g on my phone to play wow.....

From what I've read, the release of Splashtop bundled with the TF101 (v1.0.0.5) does not support connectivity over the internet, only via a local network. Apparently we need the v1.4.0.4 client on the TF for internet discovery, but I haven't found any way to upgrade this yet. Maybe ASUS will push this update at some point?
Edit: And I've tried connecting via the internet on my TF, but I've had no luck.

I've not tried Splashtop over 3G on xformer yet but Teamviewer works surprisingly well over 3G (on a phone). Should work pretty well over wifi but of course it all depends on your broadband speed etc..
Edit: Teamviewer is also free!

I remember reading an Asus statement somewhere that a future update will support this functionality.

I can confirm the client with the TF does work over the internet..you just need to manually add and IP address/port, and ofc you need to set up port forwarding correctly in your router..

Yes, can also confirm it works over the internet on 3G. You have to port forward the 3 ports and manually add the ip, but then it works fine. It's the only remote app I've found that supports the keyboard. The only downside for me is the limited resolution support. I'm running 1900x1200 and the max splashtop supports is 1280x800, so all of my desktop windows get resized when I connect.

you can still change the resolution back on your PC (while connected)..and it will displays just fine on the TF....
agree there should be an option to just use whatever resolution is on the PC

Yep, you have to portforward 6783-6785 on your router or it won't connect. Those with dynamic ips on DSL should also use some dynamic dns service like DymDNS so they can always connect.

Thanks for testing magicpork.
Blue_Man, maybe you can go to youtube and type:
Eee pad transformer home review Asus (MyCloud Splashtop Setup)
for connecting splashtop over other internet/3G(I can't post a link since the forum policy won't allow spams)
However, I have one more question. I've seen people comment about the keyboard will not function as a desktop when you connect through splashtop. (I think they said the short keys/numpad won't work as it should. Also, they say when you are playing games, when you old down "w", it will stop responding after 1,2s. They said you need to keep on pressing the same key over and over again)Is this true?

I got the splashtop remote on my pc fine and the HD on my TF but for some reason they will not see each other, can someone lend me a hand please?

Phone to Tablet Internet

Just found an awesome APP in the market called Pdanet Tablet you install it on your phone then on your tablet and use bluetooth to get internet to your tablet via your android phone!!!!
It works pretty well on my Epic to my Transformer!
No Root needed (This will be for those of us who have not hacked our phones to send off Wifi already.)
Not working on my tab :\
Edit: I fixed it. reboot helped.
Awesome find, thanks! It's not quite working consistently for me, but I was hoping the PdaNet dev would make a version just like this. I'm sure he'll get it working reliably soon enough...
tethering off my nexus s, 2.3 hotspot w00t.
Anyone get this to work on Droid X, 2.3?
An update: after I installed this app, my TF Internet connectivity was completely hosed. It might be coincidental, although I doubt it. Essentially, I lost the ability to connect to a number of services via wifi, even after I uninstalled the app. Couldn't connect to Google properties, Tapatalk couldn't connect, etc. Absolutely miserable.
Only way to fix it was to do a factory reset. Multiple reboots and reconfigs of wifi settings did nothing.
Moral: be careful with this app.

I have not installed it yet in my tablet.
But I just read it from the market and they said you should remove the proxy setting after using it, otherwise the internet will not work anymore.
Not sure if they meant you will have to remove the proxy setting everytime you finished using it. That will be a hassle if we need to switch between wifi and BT every time.
works for me bluetooth tethering to my Droid Incredible. Havent tried it longer than 30 mins so I havent experienced any disconnects yet.
You do have to reset the proxy every time you use the app (set it to use it, disable it when your done). If you dont, wifi wont connect anymore (at least for me).
It is a little bit of a hassle, but i can live with it. At least the app gives you a shortcut to quickly change the setting.

Are you getting 4G speed off your Epic? I'm using wifi tether right now and only getting 3G speeds even if 4G is enabled, what kind of speeds are you getting?

Not sure why you need an app. I wifi tether with my Nexus S and it works fine. Just have 2gb package from ATT. They don't seem to care.
I got it installed, and everything went smoothly except I have no internet access via browser, or gmail.
Otherwise, this looks like a good app, easy to use.
I tried this PDANet for Tablet. The first beta release was buggy and there was a lot of disconnects with some debugging prompts.
Then I saw they updated it several days ago.
After updating it, its still not a smooth experience.
Got it connected to the phone, launch the browser and I could browse the web, but after 2-3 web pages, then it will stop working.
Email does not seem to work for me. Both GMail client and the native Email client, none works for me. Google Map seems to work.
But again, the connection dropped very frequently.
Hi,
Does anyone know of a solution for the TF101 when the phone you want to tether to is not an android device. I am still using my trusty HTC HD2, and it's WiFi hotspot is "ad hoc" and not seen by the TF, and its bluetooth creates a PAN, and rudely tells me that the TF needs a NAP.
Maybe I can use the "windows mobile version of PdaNet on the phone with the android tablet PdaNet client on the TF??
Wifi hot spot on G2x works perfect and I get 4g speed will post screen shot when I figure out how..

[Q] Help please. Splashtop is just not connecting

Hi,
I just got my transformer, and am loving it. However, desperately missing the Splashtop streaming experience that so many people are raving about. Please help.
Whenever I try connecting, it says "Connect failed"
I have already enabled Splashtop Windows client in my Windows Firewall.
Also, I created a Splashtop rule (as mentioned on their site) to allow ports 6783-6785.
Have tried to seek help on their site, and in desperation turning to experts on XDA. Please help resolve this. In addition to the above, I am running a McAfee Antivirus that is enabled by the company admin, so I cant shut that...but I suppose that should be ok. Please please help...
Before 3.1, I had no issues. After, i'm having some issues sometimes too. I have to click it 2-4 times before it connects.
Don't know what happened. Nothing changed on my pc end. Wondering if it's a TF thing.
Does it work while on the local network? If so then its a port forwarding issue in your router or youre using the wrong address. If it doesnt work locally it is an issue w your splashtop server setup or windows firewall.

If via lan (inside your nerwork) u don't need to port forwarding. All u need to use is the ip address of that machine. Are u having issues inside or outside your network? I noticed on mines, when I get connect failed I need to stop splashtop client and then start it again. Here a weird issue Im having, if there was a session of rd (windows) on my server then after that I will always get failed error with splashtop. I need to either reboot that machine or use logmein to restart the software on the computer. For me, there an issues with splashtop and windows 7 rd.
It doesn't work for me within my home network. Is there a way to try and narrow down the problem, or test it differently?

Try downloading the free version in the market: https://market.android.com/search?q=splashtop&so=1&c=apps
If it works, you may have a problem with the Asus-installed version. If it doesn't work, it could be the "server" portion

Just checked out the free verison and the highest resolution is 1024× 768 which look like crap on the Tf. Unless the paid verison has a native resolution for the TF, I going to stick with the splashtop that come with the Tf
There's a bug with splashtop I think. I can't connect to my mac mini unless the monitor is on or plugged in. Maybe you should try that.

I'm pretty sure the answer is right here:
"In addition to the above, I am running a McAfee Antivirus that is enabled by the company admin"
You might want to chat with the company admin. If it's a work computer, 99.9999% of all admins will lock down ports to their IT Assets and there's not a darn thing you can do except get them to open it (small company) or get fired for trying to hack their network (large company).
If it's a work laptop maybe it might be on your side and something you can change but the vast majority of time the IT folks are going to close down company resources to avoid folks being able to do exactly what you are trying to do.
The splashtop desktop portion said there was an update so I installed it but now it only keeps me connected for a few seconds then it drops out. It also doesn't let me interact with what I'm seeing on screen. Anyone else run across this?
I have tried about everything I can think of to get Splashtop to work form outside ny home network:
Disabled firewall in Trend AV
Allowed Ports 6783-6785 in Trend
Turned off windows FW and allowed ports (three entries)
Turned off FW for UV modem
Allowed Ports in router (Lynksys)
And even tried disabling FW in router.
Thus at some point, all FW's were off, verified ip address (starts with 99, so correct one), used ipconfig to find IP of my computer too...
Whew... Any thoughts? Logmein works like S***, so I don't think I'll go there until they update it (or is the app better?)
Thanks!

[Q] Anyone using TightVNC?

I have set up TightVNC on my A500 and it works well as a remote desktop, but only if my A500 and my laptop are on the same network. When I'm on the road and try to connect to my laptop at home via the hotel wifi, free public wifi, or my cell phone, it will not connect. Does anyone know what could be causing this? My cell phone has no problem connecting from anywhere in the world via 3g or wifi using iTeleport. Unfortunately they don't make iTeleport for Android though. My reason for doing this is because I travel for a living and I would rather not have to tote my laptop all over tthe place when I have a tablet. I like to leave my laptop at home connected to wifi while iim on the road. My main need for the connection is to access my airline's employee program for flight info. It is Java based and will not run on a cell phone or tablet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
must open port 5800 if my memory.
sorry for my English
Thank you so much. I'll give that a shot.

I use RealVNC and it works great but I did have to set up port forwarding on my router to get it to work outside of my home network.
I will have to figure out out to check my router for port forwarding when I get back home. The only reason I didnt go with LogMeIn was the price was kind of steep. I'll check RealVNC out when I get a chance. Thanks guys.
heard of teamviewer? thats quite good and i was surprised it was ported onto the android..... best of all its free.
Thank you so much Ben! Team viewer works great and its exactly what I was looking for. The funny thing is my laptop is at home in Chicago while I'm sitting in a hotel room in Frankfort Germany. I was able to access my laptop via my cellphone using iTeleport in order to set up Teambiewer on my laptop lol. Now I can access my laptop via my Iconia. You gotta love technology!
I like this teamviewer thing, but I have a question. Is there any way to get the sound to go from one computer to the Iconia? I was able to access my desktop with the Iconia and open a video file and play it but I was unable to hear the sound from it. Is there any way to do that?

[Q] MK809 with 3G dongle and wifi tethering?

I have tried to search for an answer to this with no real success. I believe that it is possible to connect a USB 3G dongle such as Huawei E1750 to an MK809 such as Justop K9. Hopefully someone will be able to confirm that? Then I would like to know if it is possible to then share that 3G connection via wifi tethering to other devices.
Basically I'm trying to combine 3G modem and wifi router into a hdmi stick/dongle. If anyone has tried this I would be interested to hear their experience. If it is someting that is really not practical then I more than likely will give it a miss. I would need to use this as my "main" internet connection, although I wouldn't consider myself a "power user" I do stream youtube and online such as BBC iPlayer. I have had good experience with wifi tethering using my old HTC HD2 (flashed with android 4.0) and can get 4Mb connection speeds which allows me to stream no problem.
If this works well I would then be connecting a usb hard drive and using webdav server app to share the contents to my other devices.
I would appreciate any guidance! :good:
P.S. I notice that I'm not supposed to post questions in here, but I can see a few questions already within this section and it seems like the best place for this question to me. Mods, please move it if you need to.
I think it could be done as long as the router has a connection but just a bit of info, I watch YouTube quite a bit maybe 4-5 20/30min vids a day and in the past 7 days YouTube has used probably 12gig of data. Since everything is HD. I know a lot of dongles have data limits. IPlayer doesn't work great these devices for now you have to use the flash version and its a little buggy. Its best to get it from xbmc add on.
Oh and the 808 doesn't have tether not sure about the 809

Thanks for the reply.
It's a virgin media contract I'm looking at. Supposedly truly unlimited according to vm themselves and can be used to tether. I got my dad one and he uses it to tether his laptop and ubisurfer when away. It works very well when I've tried it myself.
Thanks for the tip about tethering on 808. I imagine this is just a software limitation? It was possibly never considered when the rom was built. I think there are Google play apps that will enable this on phones that didn't have it as an original option. I'm hoping it will work in a similar way.
Xbmc will be on my list. I assume it's possible to side load flash onto these things.
Can't answer your 3g question but just bought the mk809 justop k9 and it comes pre installed with flash. Have xbmc installed and it works brilliantly with streaming from my server, an app called tvcatchup and all the usual on demand add ons.

yes that would be interesting. I know that a lot of usb devices are supported. tried a webcam on it. Works perfect in combination with skype. for wath I read. its also possible to use a usb to lan adapter. maybe an option for the poor reception.
but a 3g dongle. got to see that.

Thanks for that. It is nice to hear a positive review about the Justop K9 as I was considering one anyway. This project might just save me some money having to buy other equipment. Would you be able to try whether you can install one of the free non root wifi tether apps from the play store? Obviously there would be no internet connection, but if you can establish a wifi hotspot and connect a phone to it then it's a good sign.
As for the USB to ethernet, I have a couple of those connectors spare. I'm aware you can use them on various android devices to give them an internet connection, but I don't know whether the reverse is true? Is it possible to share a 3G connection to the USB, and via the ethernet connection to a separate wifi router for instance? I can't find a good answer to that. I'm gonna have a play with my TF700 and see what I can accomplish!
Regards,
John
No need to install an app, android 4 onwards supports wifi tethering natively. Just needed to go into the 'more' menu and set up from there. Managed to connect easily with my Sony Tablet but, as you say, couldn't browse as the stick wifi was being used to tether.
Spoke too soon on the on demand stuff, seems itv player, 4od and 5od have been messing around with their encryption so the xbmc add ons have stopped working, I'm sure the devs are working on it. Iplayer add on still works and there is a work around using firefox anyway.
Can't help with your other query I'm afraid, sorry.

The touchpad function works really smoothly and seamlessly - better than established 3rd party apps like Splashtop. I guess with that huge pile of ASUS bloat, something had to turn out useful eventually
