[Q] How is Adam - Adam General

Hi everyone,
I have read specs and I've watched hands on videos. (I like the choice of display -- paperback and normal and mouse pad at the bottom plus all those ports)
However I want to ask people who are actually using Adam (hopefully comparing with Galaxy tab 10.1):
1. How is touch screen?
2. How is performance (default Launcher and OS mods)
3. How good is display (paperback) to read books (and to work) in sunlight and how good is it normally?
4. Does is come unlocked? (no carrier restrictions?)
5. How easier is it to mod it? (I heard bootloader is pretty open and they are allowing all the development.) I currently own Samsung Epic 4g (cell phone) as much as I like the phone, I don't like Samsung's extra firmware making it nearly impossibly for devs to mod
6. Price point comparison.
And any other suggestions you may have to point

Mods: Please move thread to general discussion,
I was reading about development for Adam and started new thread without knowing that I'm starting it in development section

I am interested in the views as well.
With Samsung anouncing 8.9 and 10.1 inch tablets with similar or advanced hardware specs and the price point from what I hear is more competitive, this world is getting good.

Been using adam..and already put honeycomb on it..don't do the same mistake I've done.its heavy screen not good glare everywhere..take my advice don't buy adam. Now im saving, reading alot about transformer and waiting for samsung 10.1 (thin) .. will be out on june8.

*It looks like you are reading older design specifications, that "touch pad" idea never made it to production.
1. Good
2. Good
3. It is not "paperback" or e-ink, but it is a PQi screen, IMHO excellent for outdoor use. It is a
trade-off" feature.. Viewing angles and vivid colors are not it's forte.
4. "3G" is dependent on the carrier's/ network frequency - In the US it's only compatible with AT&T..
5. It's open and came with NVFLASH capabilities since day one, hard to "brick".
6. Other "newer" devices in your local market may be more appealing.. (personal preference) YMMV
Hope that helps,

I had one, LCD 3g. Could not handle the very poor viewing angle of the LCD, was basically not usable in portrait mode and with no official honeycomb in the near future I sold it and bought an Acer A500.
It was a fair bit more expensive and no 3g, but I have never looked back.

It is unlocked but that doesn't mean all carriers are compatible.
I have no regrets buying adam. Extremely robust (may not have a metal shell but there is an aluminum chassis on the inside), virtualy impossible to brick, pixel qi is amazing provided you can do with less contrast than your lcd tv. I personaly love the swivel camera (fact that it swivels, I could do without the audible click from auto focus), the speakers are better than most laptops let alone other tablets. Could hold it all day due to the design. External ports galore. Plus comes with a dedicated community determined to make your experience with adam a better one, in lieu of a NI customer support. On that note it would seem they're making great strides in correcting this.

I have a second Adam coming in a few weeks. The hardware is awesome. It may require software skills to unleash the power. The display is the deal breaker. I have it mounted on the HD for the relaxing trips off into the unknown.

My adam is nice, but I have no use for it. It is up for sale on ebay here http://cgi.ebay.com/Notion-Ink-Adam-Pixel-Qi-3G-/120737554657?pt=US_Tablets&hash=item1c1c84e0e1
The price is currently at $350 with one bid and one day to go. It is a pixel qi model with the att 3g bands.

I have an pqi adam. I like the pqi screen. Even indoor, if you have bright light, the black and white mode is very high resolution, and looks great. I use it in bed with my lamp pointed at it and it is very easy on the eyes.
I am not a fan of android in general. The interface notion ink puts on might be good if you use it every day but I constantly thinking "ok, how do I do this again?" Maybe I'm just old. It does help with androids poor multitasking though.
Battery life was a lot worse on the adam than I thought. I can get 7.5 hours of constant use if I am in airplane mode and black-and white mode. I was hoping for 6 with everything on. Not so.
I am putting my hopes in linux for tegra (Alpha just release). The unity interface look promising. I think the thing that adam has going for it is it's so open. They make it very easy to try every software available and they give you the tools to do it.
I am happy with my adam but every time my wife pulls out her Ipad I think, for less money she has a sleeker design that always works and has not just apps you want but quality apps. That is my biggest peeve with android. Yes I can usually find what I want but the quality is so low I can't stand to use it.
About at&t, they have a reasonable tablet plan that I tried to sign up for it but it appeared to only be offered for Honeycomb tablets.

Questions on GT?

I am a xoom owner since launch and am very very pleased with it. I have not done the 3.1 update yet, because I still have to re-do all my themeing for the update.
I am thinking about returning the xoom for the GT10.1
I see mixed information on the galaxy tab everywhere I go. I know it has a proprietary USB port.
My questions are:
1. Will it have an SD Card slot? I love using the SD Slot on my xoom.
2. Will it have USB Host? This is a HUGE + for the xoom, I am hoping the GTab has one.
3. What hardware ports and buttons are on it
4. How much heat is generated under very heavy load? I know the xoom heats up at the bottom right, where is the heat on the GTAB?
5. How does it feel in your hands compared to a xoom? (IO Owners)
6. How is the build quality compared to a xoom? (IO Owners)
7. Can Touchwiz be removed?
Anything I should know about making a switch from a xoom to a gtab?
1.) Not sure but the 8.9 will (http://www.samsungmobilepress.com/press/view.asp?SEQ=36)
2.) I'm sure it will at some point, just probably not at launch.
3.) Not sure. The I/O tab may be different than the final unit.
4.) I has no clue
7.) Ya it'll be easy.
And I think you should

1. 10.1 Yes - 10.1v No
2. Probably not at lunch - since no one has retail model it is hard to confirm
3. Power, volume - can't remember about hearing of anything else.
4. No one knows - bear in mind that retail GT10.1 might be based on quite different platform than Xoom, hence it is impossible to say until stuff is confirmed 100%. So far we are only guessing what will be the heart of 10.1.
5. I am not one of THEM ;-)
6. As above
7. I would say yes, but I doubt you will want to ;-)
Exynos = no need to convert any movies + access to Samsung's HUB (music, video, etc). + superior performance when comapred to Tegra II (if we will get Exynos inside).
I can't speak for the real 10.1 that gets released next month, but based on the I/O model:
From my limited experience with the Xoom (just playing with it in a store), I think the build quality is about the same. Both feel very sturdy to me. It is definitely noticeably lighter and thinner than the Xoom. In this regard, it is essentially the same as the iPad 2, except widescreen.
The only ports/buttons are:
power
volume up/down
headphone jack
speaker holes (one on each side when holding in landscape; nice stereo sound effect)
microphone (on bottom when holding in landscape)
proprietary data/charging port
front-facing camera (on top when holding in landscape)
rear camera and flash (also on top when in landscape)
I had a XOOM for a few weeks and returned it. I find that the screen quality of the GT-P7510 we were given at I/O is far better than the XOOM which i found to be too dim even at the highest brightness. I don't think I've taken the brightness on my GT-P7510 above 40 percent and it looks great.
It feels much better in my hands than the XOOM did as far as quality of materials. I would caution that the GT10 seems to be designed not as a device that will appeal to the XDA geeks of the world but to the iPad users out there. Its far more consumer oriented than the XOOM.

Would you care to explain in more details why do you feel this way?
The lack of connections like HDMI, USB, Micro-USB. The propretary Samsung connector. The lack of additional storage options like an SD card. The sacrifice of a 8mp camera on the thicker model for the 3mp on the GT-P7510 so it can be .2mm thinner than an iPad2.
But if you put this next to an Ipad it looks like a viable option visually. People have asked if it was a Ipad2 when I'm in public with it. No one ever confused my XOOM with an Apple product. Geeks will buy a Asus Transformer or maybe even a XOOM based on each of them having what I listed above. But your average consumer might actually see a GT10 on the shelf and buy it based on how aesthetically pleasing it is. And frankly thats Samsung's target market with this and most of its devices.
Its a great device but its so damn buggy right now I cant wait for the consumer realease because im hoping for a software update that will give the device a more polished experence. My SGT 7in is much easier to use at the moment.

There is an SD card and if my guts tells me right a kick ass cpu when compared to tegra ;-)
We'll see about the production models, but the WiFi 32gb I'm typing this on right now absolutely does not have an SD card slot. I think they've established that this is a Tegra2 device too. Even Nvidia Tweeted about it being one when they gave it at Google I/O last week.
Yes, 100%. But it also says 10.1v while boot. Is it not?

Thanks for finding that. I think I see what happened now. The article you linked is from Monday, the day before the I/O edition tablets were given out. The author is reviewing a demo model (notice the plain white back, no android army) that was displayed for people to come and check out. The ones that were given out on Tuesday have different software on them.
I see the difference - thanks (given ;-) for clearing up the fact!
I have an I/O model. I haven't held a Xoom before but I can speak in some general terms that it feels really light and mobile. I have an iPad 1 and if I hold it for a while it feels like it's weighing down on my hands. I haven't felt this way with the Tab. I could totally also see someone picking it up and saying it feels cheap and plasticky, though.
Build quality wise, I did notice the plastic back had been bowing away from the glass on the corners of the screen. Nothing too big, just that you could see a millimeter or so of the edge of the glass when it was supposed to be flush with the edge of the plastic housing. With the plastic bowing back, it made the whole thing look almost warped I first unboxed it, but I pushed things back together and it's stayed put thus far. This may be an issue with the fancy android-printed plastic back though on the I/O model and nobody will see this on the general release model, I don't know.
On the 10.1 I don't see any Touchwiz and the only Samsung "value-add" I see are some dumb apps and widgets they've added in that don't work all that well. If their 3.1 OTA comes with full-on Touchwiz I will be disappointed.
Honestly I'd have some reservations about telling someone to go run out and buy one of these based on the model I have.
I've been seeing some bugs and glitches that are a little annoying. In the 4 days I've had this, I've had it hard-lock on me on the lock screen, and I've been seeing issues where Gmail and the web apps will go unresponsive. I also set the time zone to Pacific time when I unboxed it at I/O and now apparently there's a bug that keeps you from being able to change time zone without a hard reset. Part of me is worried this stuff might land on the production build.
I still like it a lot more than my iPad though.

About to get an atrix, need advices

Well, i just broke my sgs for the third time , and im not fixing it anymore, in fact, just sold it as it is.
sgs2 is too expensive for me, and im thinking in something diferent too. So i must choose for atrix, or optimus 2x. my first choica fas the o2x, but on its forum, ppl said crap against this phone lol. so im here to ask, what do you think about atrix, does it worth?
thanks!
oh hell yes worth every cent !

and i love the fingerprint reader. love it.
it's a good phone. solid.
and i found out not evan a monkey can break it trying to root and unlock it aslong as it can read
instructions

This is true, but we sadly do have a lacking development community to some extent. One reason why I'm considering leaving this phone. Although we do have ICS and MIUI on the way, probably in the next month or too. Ill stick around until I had my fun with those. But anyways its a solid phone with good specs that could really last you for a while.

My gf has an Sgs2 and I have the Atrix. The SGS2 only has a better camera( which in my opinion is not a big deal as I love the 5 megapixel camera on the atrix. It satisfies ask my needs) and it also has a gorgeous screen, which again is not a big deal for me because my battery life is 24+ hours with brightness tuned to Max. I love the screen on the atrix although the one on SGS2 is better.
I think that the atrix is the most underrated phone ever. This thing can do more....a lot moee than what the SGS2 can do + it's got unique features like fingerprint scanner.

I would go with the samsung galaxy s 2 for development. The phone is being supported by miui offically and you will get the lastest updates. If it costs to much for you .. you should probably save up.
just one last question: in latin america atrix dont have gingerbread yet. would be too hard to flash an international version? and 2.2 bootloader is locked, and 2.3 is open right? thanks! the version i would buy is atrix mb860
cannot (not yet at least) find out a phone which fits my needs as Atrix
I dont have an idea to make a PR or the comparisons between GS2, Op2X... or so on and the Atrix, but I would like to share my experiences as well as cons./pros of this phone so that you may have more exactly choice to pay money.
- Firstly, this is the best phone which has been offering me the highest quality of voice call, gsm, gps and wifi signals. Such the things satisfied me in the intensity and the stability of radio. I've been owned some other brands of smartphone before switched to the Atrix so that I can surely share this experience to anyone.
- The second pros is the huge battery that in fact impressed me more than the Moto's advertisements or disparagements somewhere out there. With the Atrix, the annoying issue of battery lifetime that I faced before is fully disappear .
- Atrix is so far so good in providing the strong secure ability under hardware level through the biometric sensor which is well known as Fingerprint scanner. Not only adding a mediocre feature of unlocking screen by fingerprint authorization, but it also added valued security options for protecting any sensitive things in my phone such as the business data, PIM data, apps, accounts... Such an ability performs security checks excellently while still keeping no change of speed for me in accessing the phone by myselft. Yeah, I mean that I dont need to enter the boring password or swipe the pattern to unlock the phone or launch an apps, etc...
In special addition, the fingerprint scanner on the Atrix also has the ability of operating as the track pad including the touch click like a mouse when you use the CM7-Fingerprint version at here
- The forth, Atrix offers valued entertainment features. I mean the lapdock and the webtop expansion. Though it wont works for replacing a laptop or your PC, but it offered me an excellent entertainment with a HD TV in games or Web surfing like a PC. Along with a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, I even forgot I were playing on a phone! Becos it is really like a PC with a huge screen! If you cannot figured out this, just imagine that you are lying at now on the bed for relax with your TV before going into sleep, you always have a wireless keyboard and a mouse somewhere at the top of your bed, just take them and get started surfing the web, or maybe the facebook or anything else including games,... Well, you have the 3 in only 1 entertainment device, that are the TV, the PC and the smartphone. All of them are integrated into one big TV screen. And whats up when you feel now asleep? You give an eye to the docked phone (yes, its Atrix with the multimedia dock), seeing that is 11pm and the 60% battery in charging! Well, just leave it alone till next morning it will be ready at 100% charged for you for new working day. And for now, simply go to sleep!
Still not stopped at there, with a multimedia dock station you also are provided the great convenience in review or backup photos/videos/documents or anything else in the phone to your external storage such as an external drive, an USB drive or both..., just by plugging them through the USB ports on the dock station and using buil-in File Manager in webtop to browse data
Above are things that cannot be supported by another device till now, in my opinion
- For the biggest disadvantage of this phone, Atrix I mean, as my own view it is the Pentile screen. It is really not smoother and glitter than some others like GS2, Sensation, Galaxy Note...
Once you rooted & nlocked bootloader & tried the various Roms you find them to be a much of a muchness.
The stock rom is laggy, GB & froyo.
Rommed it's much better but nothing special.
Hardware it's prety cool, music played through power amp with flac is fantastic. Not much else is outstanding
If I knew then what I know now - I would avoid like the plague - Motorola Europe are pants.
Get a HTC or a Nexus, anthing but a Motofail - I'll never buy on again
Sorry it's bad news
well i came to a new problem now. the seller just offered me an milestone 3 (droid 3 xt860) . the price is not mutch higher. should i get it instead of atrix?

Sent from my MB525 using XDA Premium App
The Atrix is a very solid device and if you are looking to go the cheap route, it is definitely a strong option. Keep in mind however, that because of Moto's early bootloader debacle, the dev support for the phone isn't quite up to par with some of the higher profile phones like the SGS2. I would say that the two glaring drawbacks of the Atrix are the pentile screen and camera. When you pay close enough attention, you can tell that there are gaps between the colors, especially noticeable on the battery indicator. The camera on the Atrix is just sub-par. The colors seem too washed out and images aren't too sharp when compared with other phones out on the market. IMO, the quality of the recorded video seems better than the images, and it seems that something in the GB update made both just slightly better, but the camera is still on the bottom of my currently cycled phones.
That said, there still is legitimate development going on for the Atrix, and it is very likely going to get some form of ICS in the future (possibly not official from Motorola). The phone is coming up on a year old, but it's still one hell of a workhorse. My Galaxy Nexus is supposed to be coming in later today, but I can definitely still see myself using the Atrix from time to time. The build quality feels really solid.
The pentile display is actually not much of a problem for me. Anything is okay for me if it saves significant amount of battery life and moreover the display still is more than enough for me. Never like the oversaturated screen on my friend's captivate.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Pentile matrix is really an advanced technology which gives a higher brightness, higher contrast and sharper screen. Hence it allows the manufacturer to decrease the intensity of the back-lit torch for saving power. But, as a cost, the "gaps" phenom is known as the characteristics of this technology. It can be corrected by increasing the pixels intensity of the screen, e.g. to HD resolution, so this technology is really a chance for the new handsets in the future. As for the Atrix, this is a loveable cost for major of people to gain the more attractive benefits that is the less consumption of battery power.

About to sell before the Nexus tablet

Hi all,
I'm about to sell my 7.7 its a great device but the OS sluggyness (more than a second to unluck is not right) is getting on my nerves.
Its clear this isnt going to get any form of regular updates so to stave my losses on it I'm going to sell this now and ideally do so before the Google Tablet arrives.
Is a great machine but with the lack of dev community its a no go for any early adopters liking to play.
Real shame samsung.

Is this where we post "Cool story bro"?
Just remove the lock option if its peeing you off,
i don't have it set on mine so its instant off,
also use another launcher or if you like the stock launch then just have it set with the single home screen,
i currently use the TW launcher with 1 home screen and 2 widgets no problems,
have come close to buying another tablet but there isn't one that feels as good a the 7.7...
I still cannot believe that the nexus tablet is going to be sold as cheap as it is rumored to be atm.
Anyways, let's say it really is: Then it would actually be a good idea to get rid of the unsupported tab 7.7 in time, as you could easily buy two nexus tabs for the money the 7.7 is valued right now.
I think there has to be a hook somewhere.

I guess I see it as a quirky exotic car. Not as reliable as a cheaper econobox, but 7.7 has my favorite combination of build quality, super thin form factor - yet great battery life, and awesome screen. To me there isn't enough improvement over the 7.7 with the Nexus Tablet that makes me want to swap.
As others have mentioned, swap out the stock launcher & browser, use NoLock, etc. I have tweaked around almost all the deficiencies of the 7.7 and have 99% of what I want in my perfect tablet. The only troublesome issues are this random looping reboot problem that we're discussing in the other thread I haven't been able to make headway with and also that i wish i could enable bluetooth phone profile on the Verizon version.
Maybe when more details are announced for Nexus Tab that make it more awesome, and if the damn random reboot problem on my VZ 7.7 keeps happening.

I do sympathize with the OP. The 7.7 will be my last Samsung product. it's simply not acceptable anymore to launch a premium tablet without appropriate support when the software is just not adequate.
This said, I agree with above. It is still the "best" hardware on the market as far as 7" format goes, with the only possible upgrades being the processor and the screen (resolution wise; would make a huge difference for ebook reading - you get used to the retina screen). I'd have to wait to be tempted by any of the upcoming models, an still seriously hope Samsung will do the right thing and release ICS soon.
The main drawback compared to the Google offering will be the lack of phone option.

There will be compromise, Mostly screen Nothing beats Amoled!!, no gsm 3g, maybe tiny battery , bigger chunkyer, not magnesium crappyer build quality. The reason the cpu will be good is because it will be mass manufactured, and thats why the price will be so affordable. I think.
I was reading a report online last week that spoke of them going into mass production with some CPU manufacturer, lets see as I have my good days and bad day with the galaxy tab 7.7....
Do wish they would kick the ICS out for this baby and we could see if worth keeping or not, but yes I totally agree with most people on this and Samsung has dropped the ball on this and will be my last Samsung product
I also agree with OP's point to an extent. I actually went from an original Galaxy Tablet, to the 7 Plus, and hate that Samsung does this to their customers. They got our money and forgot about after purchase support. If the 7.7 wasn't such a great device I wouldn't have went with another Samsung.
The next best device I would consider for myself would be the Toshiba Thrive 7.7 - also a SAMOLED+ screen, Tegra 3, skinnier than 7.7 but Wifi only and i really enjoy the battery life and built in LTE from the tablet w/ my 7.7.
be aware !
nexus tablet might lack 3g,LTE, rear camera to make it a affordable device.

to hit the price point, those things are well worth the sacrifice.
unless your tablet is your sole device, most people will have a phone which can do all those other things. the tablet was meant to be a secondary device you can use which is inbetween completely portable (phone) and non-portable (desktop).
Humm, no 3g that sux. I use 3g for data.
WiFi at home 3g when I am not, thats a deal braker for me.
I don't have the 7.7 but having played with it in store, I can't imagine Google matching it in quality for the price point they want. That'd be a pretty incredible feat.
Given that I think it'd be a hasty mistake to sell. It sucks for ICS to still not be there but it'll come - and chances are good you'll have a better tab than Google's then.

Got £340 in the end for the tab and have just spent £200 on the g7,sold just in time me thinks.
Feels like I got there just in time.
If 7.7 had Samsung support I wouldn't have swapped

The Nexus tab is a competitor to the Kindle and Nook, i dont know why you would downgrade, give it a few weeks and ICS will be available.

Yep though Tegra3 is superior CPU, I think once ICS drops, aside from Tegrazone games we won't notice any real life difference. The CPU @ 1.4 in our 7.7 is more than fast enough. Heck even my 1Ghz Tegra2 sony tablet s flies with ICS
The killer battery life and 3G is whats making me keep this instead of flogging and buying a Nexus 7 (at a profit too lol)
I agree with more or less all the comments on here, the built quality of the 7.7, weight, and that screen is amazing, but we have been waiting far too long for ICS and Jelly bean is around the corner. We have the advantage of a SD slot 3g etc but the hardware specs of the Nexus 7 is just better in terms of CPU GPU etc under the hood. In my opinion if you just use your tablet for casual use, browsing and consuming digital content then the Nexus 7 makes sense. for cheaper and better experience. But if you have loads of apps, content and you use your tablet as a travel companion and main device to create and produce things then the 7.7 is still a great device. I am in 2 minds right now, might sell up with all my accesories and get 2 nexus 7's one for the wife and one for me. Just not sure

Just Recieved a Galaxy S3 - First Newcommer Impressions!

First of all, Hi all!
I have been on the Xperia Play section of the XDA Forums have just bought a new Galaxy S3.
The phone is very aesthetically pleasing! I am very impressed by the speed of the phone and the screen clarity, they are just simply amazing to someone who was used to a LED backlit LCD screen!
The S-Voice: (Yes I know it is a little bit of a gimmick) is pretty awesome and accurate, it definitely gives Siri a good run for its money (one of the things Apple pride themselves most in)
Camera: What can I say? They are just great, both probably better than Iphone 5, especailly the front facing camera!
Gyroscope: Awesome with Streetview when you hit the "compass mode".
LTE : Will not be able to test it out yet in another few weeks unit the UK will get it. Having near like broadband speeds or sometimes better just seems really great, especially if you're stuck in an airport waiting for delayed flights and you wanna watch a movie on Netflix or Youtube.
NFC: Sounds awesome but I will probably not be using it as most stores in the UK do not use this technology. There is also the security aspect of the thing I'm slightly worried about anyway.
UI: Not the best but well put together and an intuitive way of handling apps and widgets efficiently.
GPS: Very fast and accurate, much, much faster than the Xperia Play.
Wifi: Not great, I think the proximity range to my home hub has reduced slightly compared to the Xperia Play ( a 2011 model phone)
Data: Again, the 3g is very fast thanks to its HDSPA+ technology.
Memory: I have noticed that I cannot use this to move app data to SD card, this is all fine with a 16gb internal memory but can be a problem if you are interested into the high end games. I understand there is probably a fix to this with root but have decided not to root it just so that I have time to fully see the phone is fully functional without my warranty being voided.
Body: Large but just large enough to sit comfortably in my hand, I think the Iphone body quality is better and stronger than the S3. When removed, the back plate of the S3 just really feels very plasticy and malleable. However, it all compensates when put back together makes the phone a strong, thin and robust.
So yeh......
This is my own personal insight of the magnificent phone that I received today! Hope I can contribute as much info to this section as I can!
I too came from the play and the improvement is monumental imo. Obviously I'll miss the hardware game pad but I'm using fspe and sixaxis which is awesome and something you should look into.

I agree with most of your comments, but if your model number is I9300 you will not get LTE, because it doesn't have an LTE modem, HSPA+ is decent for watching video with a decent signal.
And NFC is secure, it can handle encrypted traffic, also its maximum range is less than 20cm, so people have to be very close to intercept data and you will notice someone elses hand that close to your phone.
And finally if you don't like the UI change it
I came from last 3 generations of iPhones to Galaxy S3, and even with iPhone 5 out theres no way I would go back
I rooted my galaxy within the 1st week and its been great so far with Omega rom, even thinking about ditching my iPad

S-voice is definitely a gimmick though because I keep asking for the time in Oz and it says it's the same time their as it is here (uk) lol but other than that this phone packs a huge punch compared to other high end devices.

Just having a removable battery is ++ for me. Build materials can be improved but I guess they also want to maximize profit.

[Q] Happy with your Nexus 4?

I'm new to the forums here and I have the HTC One X (ATT) and I've come to hate the lack of support of it and also all of the control ATT has over the updates. So I started looking into the Nexus 4 and just wanted see how satisfied or unsatisfied actual users were with their Nexus 4. So please comment and share your thoughts!
I am satisfied with my Nexus 4. Being using for 2 weeks and it's the best your money can buy.
If storage and glass aren't a big deal, then this phone is the best choice.
PS Ordered the second one on 27th for my bro. I love it SOOO much!

When I am in SF for work, I have LTE but I need to use office wifi for tranfer and other stuff. At home, my LTE is soooo slow that I need to use my home wifi.
Bottom Line - I don't need LTE.

No I order through the Play store and use tmobile pre-paid's $30 plan. Works for me. I also have Sprint, which my family uses.
Love my nexus 4... Official cm10. Official PA. official AOKP. Franco and Faux kernels...
Gorgeous 768p IPS. Luxury feel in the hand. Amazingly slick curved display (defiantly don't want to drop this phone)
Meh camera (still great though, just not exciting) and some thermal throttling (being worked on)...
Lte is a non issue as hspa± is plenty fast. I mean, it loads YouTube, music, xda all instantly. Its not like we are doing real time video games and 1080p video streaming (just runs down my data plan quicker)

You really make some valid points. Camera on my HTC One X is nothing crazy either. (pretty sure they have the same specs?) I'd also like to get into modding my phone and I think the Nexus would make it easy but I honestly have no idea what I would be doing. Hahaha. How do I learn more about it because I'm a complete newb.
Awesome phone, I completely love it. Don't need LTE either. External SD would have made this phone too good to be true.
Got it on the 19th, being a pig in mud since.

I got the N4 in the mail the Monday after it came out. I too am coming from the AT&T HTC One X. I used the N4 for about a week straight before deciding to break out the ol' One X (just for a change of pace). Quite frankly, it would be hard for me to give up the N4 for the HOX now.
The HOX is a great phone, but the N4 just makes it feel slow in comparison. Maybe I'm spoiled by the speed of the N4, but I just felt like I had to wait forever to do basic things on the One X (running the latest ViperROM, btw). The HOX has better battery life, for sure, and the camera is better. I miss those two things the most. The HOX still has the best screen out there (other than the Droid DNA), but the N4 really isn't far behind. Once a few color control apps come out for the N4, my guess is that I won't really miss the screen as much. For what it's worth, I forgot just how big the HOX's screen is. When they say 4.7", they mean it. The N4 has a 4.7" screen too, but it's probably more like a 4.5" once the on-screen buttons are considered. But the additional width is really nice and almost makes up for it. I don't have LTE anywhere near me where I live, so that's irrelevant to me. I don't travel much either.
Here's my summary.
HTC One X:
- slightly better, arguably bigger screen
- better battery
- better camera (in terms of picture quality; the software is on par with the N4)
- smaller development community, although they're doing a great job imo
- poor multitasking on Sense roms (works fine on AOSP roms)
N4:
- stock Android
- blazes through any task you throw at it
- AT&T doesn't control your phone
- easier to root, flash roms, kernels, etc.
- future proof with quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM
I am fully satisfied with my Nexus 4. I love my One X, but I will not be going back to it any time soon, most likely.
I've actually been with the iPhone since the 3GS when I came into the smartphone world. I read up about this and decided to give it a try from the 4S I was using, and I'm really enjoying the Nexus 4.
I'm still a bit apprehensive to give up iOS since I've been with it for so long--still haven't sold my 4S--but I have a feeling I'll be sticking with this phone for a while. The larger screen real-estate is also much nicer to have in general. I'm torn!

I feel like you and me are one in the same! The only thing I do miss is the amount of iPhone users. All my friends and family have one... Which makes me miss iMessage and group texting :/
You are on the forums and mentioned your problems with the 1X community's lack of activity.
I like the screen, but other phones have better screens which are also better calibrated. I like the camera, but indoor photos have very inaccurate white balance.
Connectivity is good (I'm using a $10 MEdia Net plan from AT&T and have used over 2GB every month and one month even went over 12GB cause my Internet was out), and I'm getting 500KB/s average (~4Mbps). Battery life is also good; I get about a day of moderate use and 6-7 hours of literally constant, active use. I am really hurting from the lack of storage as I do a lot of reporting and don't always have time to transfer the interview recordings. I do a lot of work away from a PC and need to be able to quickly seek tracks, so I have to keep he audio on internal memory.
By most people's standard, I'm very careful with my phone. I consider my usage to be of common sense and responsible practice. The Gorilla Glass is very scratch resistant, but I'm sure a few encounters with silicate and a hard surface would leave a mark.
But really, all of these things pale in comparison to one criterion: the development community. I came from a Galaxy S and the community was amazing. Though the HP Touch Pad was well known, it apparently wasn't popular enough to garner a lot of dev support and those forums are fairly sparse.
By getting a Nexus phone, you know that the every dev is prioritizing your phone over any other model they might be working on as well. Cyanogen posted. AOKP posted. Moles posted. These are the respective heads of the three best teams this community has to offer. Check their post history. They don't appear in too many other phones' forums; they usually have teammates do that. But for the Nexus 4, they want to be the ones posting. That says a lot.
And a lot of other devs know this about the community heads' devotion to the newest Nexus model. They are locked in to a N4 for the major dev support, but will also provide their own amateur, but very valuable, contributions as well.
I'm sure the 1X is a great phone. I'm sure the 1X+ is a great phone. Same goes for the DNA, Optimus G, and other leading smartphones out there. But the N4 attracts the biggest development teams, and in turn attracts smaller developers. It kind of feeds on itself, with regard to popularity. None of these other phones have so much 3rd party support going on for them.
So, if you are looking for the absolute best hardware, maybe you should keep looking (keep the N4 in mind, though). If you're looking for flexibility, know that your stuck with one battery on the road and can't expand the meager storage provided. But if your looking for ROMs, kernels, and tweaks that let you customize the phone exactly how you want it, and maximize the potential of the hardware, then look no further.
The Nexus 4 subforums are truly the promised land.

Couldn't have said it better. The best devs are working on this phone (provided if they could get one) and that is the exciting part of Nexus4. Trumps all other phones out there.
It might seem very complicated at once if you are not familiar with Android, but it's actually quite simple. And people are always there to help. I'm looking forward to at least 1 great year with this phone.
==========
And the fact that I am the only one I know are using it makes it super cool. I have several friends who know of N4 but didn't purchase one all liked the phone after I showed them. Their impression was the speed and the screen.
A friend asked me to purchase an iPhone for him since I'm going back to China soon. While in Apple Store, I took out my phone and google talk'ed with him. I can't help but notice the "Genius" looking at me. And signing on that 3.5' tiny screen is just ridiculous. I paid half the price for what he is gonna pay for that piece of gadget, but I don't even have the desire to try out the iPhone 5 in their store.
When I got my N4 I was stunned at the slim look and mild colors. I wasn't sure if I'd like it after being on an SGS2 for over a year. I've gotten to where I really love everything about the phone, except the signal.. It sucks.
I can hold the phone next to my Nexus 7 or Galaxy Tab 10.1 and where I would normally get full bars of Wifi signal, I get 1 bar if I am lucky. The cellular signal is terrible as well. Living in Florida with hurricane glass and Double block walls - my SGS2 got really good signal, this thing is just garbage. If you rely on good signal, its not for you..
The touch sensitivity on the on-screen buttons at the lower portion of the phone seem to be not so great, other than that and the signal issues everything else is excellent..
I'm very happy with my 8GB

Like you, I previously owned a at&t htc one x as well. I ordered my nexus 4 on the 13th and have been using it for a couple of weeks now. Since then, I have sold my htc one x.
to be completely honest, i have to say i liked the camera and screen combination of the htc one x better. Colors on the htc one x were brilliant and vivid, while the nexus 4 screen seemed to look dull. this is all personal preference, but i prefer the 'over-saturated' look.
speed on the nexus 4 is a lot faster compared to sense, but when i had cm10 on my htc one x it wasnt a slouch either.
in terms of aesthetics, they are both beautiful in their own ways. i quite liked the htc's design, but i agree on the lack of support, with the nexus you are guaranteed at least a couple of updates, (just look at the nexus s, got 4.1)
here's my advice to you: as nice as the nexus 4 is, if there is nothing wrong with you htc one x, dont upgrade. If you want jellybean 4.2 and dont want to wait for the update, root your HOX and put cm10 on it.
I was able to sell my HOX for $260 and my nexus 4 was $340 after taxes/shipping.
I for one am very happy with my Gnex4...Ive had every phone that came out this year...just sold my note 2 which was a pure beast if I must say but this nexus have a more snappier feeling as far as speed and etc...plus development is going crazy for this phone which is a big +....but overall this is the best phone on the market hands down...with the note 2 very close behind...
