Gingerbread? - Bravo General

Is it possible to try?
Has anyone tried it out?
What's the worst that could happen?

i would say if you flash the defy cm7 gingerbread it wont work but worse case scenario is you have to sbf and maybe wipe data. so do a nandroid backup first.
let us know what happens, the phones are similiar enough that it might load but stuff probably wont work.
or if ur nervous wait for me to try, i was going to try it for the hell of it.
i wouldnt try anything other than stuff for the defy though.

crazy question...but it possible to port it? Still just grasping some knowledge for myself...

If I get some time this weekend, I'll give it a shot and report back here. I've been crazy busy lately, a little testing might be the perfect distraction.

Any Updates? :]

IMPORTANT!
The cm7 port for the defy includes a boot.img which means it will brick your device for sure. dont flash it.
its gotta be a stock boot.img i think, but tis for the defy.

Thanks for that. Do we have a boot.img for Bravo?

Would I be incorrect if I said, you can use the one that is backed up inside you're clock work mod backup?

Could we test a re signed zip with our boot.img in it?

I think we have a reasonably decent chance at this..
it looks as if we will definitely have to work some magic on the camera, as the defy has the 5MP and ours has the 3MP.
Also, probably other minor stuff, APN, etc.
I have the rom downloaded,
bandroidx,
how can we repackage the *.zip with our boot.img file, and then i guess sign it or whatever so we can test it on the bravo?
I would really love to get some of the 'advanced system info' from Quadrant, on the Defy. this way, we can kind of take a better look at some of the hardware and setting differences.
Lmk what you think.

Well the bravo has a locked bootloader. We need 2nd init for a chance at it. Then we may begian the process of porting the cm the defy has to the bravo. And it is not just about hardware specs...

anybody know if 2.3 for bravo will be released officially?

Probably not. Motorola really didn't want to release the 2.2 update from what I understand, but did under at&t insistence.

I thought that that was the other way around: AT&T wasn't going to release an update, but Motorola pushed them to do so because it was more popular than expected.

Eh... that's what my source said. Either way, 2.3 most likely wont make an official appearance on the Bravo.

Yeah, I highly doubt it, too. With how much effort it took just for FroYo to be released, it's probably not going to happen for any other updates, unfortunately.

Sweet! I'll definitely watch this for feedback and then probably flash it later today. HSUPA is working for you? On the other roms in this forum with HSUPA I've had varied experiences. My upload speeds in particular were really inconsistent.
EDIT: Yeah, 404...I guess I won't be dl'ing it right now. Get that fixed, please? I'll put up a mirror if I have time.

ya its still uploading..i literally just put it in there when i posted this..it should be done uploading soon
yep 404 'd... am looking foreward to trying this though
Must've finished uploading, because it's downloading just fine for me now!
ok its done and ready for upload..sorry about that wait. dropbox takes forever for me for some reason.
tried it already but without reoriented kernel. I thought that if this has the voodoo lagfix it won't work with reoriented as that one is not patched for ext3/4 (if someone knows something else please tell me).
it was pretty fast and the theme is pretty nice.one of the nicest i've used.

your right voodoo will not work with reorient. i didnt want to use the kernal that came with it because i didnt want it to cause any problems with buttons and recovery and all that. so with the reorient kernal everything works, can still get into recovery and download with regular button combo, but voodoo does not work yet until excaliberinhand puts it in his kernal

And 850 band voice and data?
They never seen to quirk right in hsupa.
dont know since i dont use bluetooth at all. check the reorient kernal thread since that what you would be using. but i think this is the same kernal being used in dg's cog 8.1 and i think it said on his download page that this kernal does have some kind of problems with wired bluetooth controls.

i just checked and it has every gsm 850 900 dcs 1800 pcs 1900 wcdma 2100 1900 900 and wcdma 850 you have to dial *#2263# then select COMBI the put a check next to wcdma 850 then menu and back..this will enable the 1 band that is not by default all the rest are already enabled.

Going Back to desire HD?! Custom roms on Telus?

Long story short, I had the uk desire HD and loved it. My only complaint was the washed out photos and 2g service...(rogers)
But now Telus has launched their new hspa network in winnipeg.... so I could have it again in its full glory.....
I am on my phone right now (2g) so I can't research much...
How are the latest roms and kernels?
Any gingerbread ports yet?
Thx in advance

The Telus device appears to have different audio chipset, so current custom ROM's are resulting in the loss of sound to your device, which being a phone is currently a bit of a show stopper bug

whoa, this is horrible news.... and lame all at the same time.... so no one has a telus device, working properly? Sounds like a simple driver tweak, but I am no developer....
I was about to flash my dhd tonight, and it was one of the main reasons I picked it over the iphone 4..... this could be a short lived purchase.
Also, is it ALL sound? The handset won't even work? /cries
If you look through the "no sound" thread you will see a fellow member wrote a new kernel allowing you to use different roms. Im about to try revolution hd myself right now.
Is that you kakarot from Redflag? you and your phones
Or if you want to stick with stock for now without any other kernels, you can downgrade using the "downgrade from 1.8x/1.72" thread and make a gold card and go to town. Then search for the "randroid" telus rooted 1.84 rom.
ahahha, yes it is me.... lol, my phone issue is getting much worse it seems... as I now have 2 nice phones on 2 different companies....
are they "specific" roms only that have this fix? any links appreciated. thx again....
I am not a big fan of stock, I like to root/unlock/flash/custom/kernels... I had the desire hd uk version, but got tired of 2g.... thought I would do the telus one because of the new hspa network (which so far, the upload is amazing, but download is pretty darn average).
I think I will pm u
search for the "raidroid telus rom" and use that one for now. You can use the revolution rom and use the Telus kernel.
Trust me, it works with either of them. Until the source gets released (prob next week) thats all we have for now (which is quite a bit for a new phone)
Im rooted and unlocked on Rogers.
Yea, Thx. I tried it but the sound was horrible....so now I am on the stock one.... I need more flashing, Hahaha..... I'm on tells but my rogers works as well.

Has anyone had a problem where after flashing your telus sim could not connect to the thelus network?
i have rooted and s-off and eng s-off. downgraded worked fine obviously. had the no sound problem but telus sim still worked. after flashing to a different ROM my telus sim no longer works in my DHD. seems to work with rogers and bell though. my sim also works in other DHD's but not mine.
any help is greatly appreciated!

[Q] Milestone 2 that works on UTMS/HSDPA 850/1900 and other basic questions

Hi,
I am currently a Milestone (running CM7) owner and am looking to transition to a faster more modern phone.
I don't like the "feel" of the Desire Z and REALLY need a slide out keyboard.
Here go a few "basic" questions that am hoping the regulars here can answer.
1)
Has anybody heard of plans for a MS2 that works on the 850/1900 3G+ bands typically used by ATT/Rogers/Telus/Bell in North America (and a few other providers around the world. I would even accept rumors at this point...
I don't want to end up with EDGE connectivity on an imported phone.
2)
What is the state of ROMs and Devs for this phone. I could not find much in the dev section. Is anything available? Is anything secretly in the works?
3) Are people happy with the "feel" and build quality of the phone? I am pretty rough on my devices so I need something solid (Gorilla glass and solid keyboard are NECESSARY).
Thanks
1. I think ppl in Brazil are on 850/1900 3G+ type bands and they are able to use 3G on this phone, so I believe the answer should be yes.
Though some1 from that region (or some1 using this phone in US) can confirm..
2. There is one custom ROM right now: Argen2Stone by santiemanuel. You can check about it in dev section. mikevhl and owain are trying to build another ROM. Plus we had some initial interest from Angdroid for Fission but haven't had any updates from him of late.
3. I'm pretty happy with the build quality of the phone (it ain't light though, but then thats what makes the feel solid and sturdy). There are no scratches on my phone screen till now and I have been using it for almost four months and I don't use any covers for it.
Hope thats of some use..

That was of great use. Thanks.
I will check out the local carriers in brazil and am greatly reassured about build quality. My MS1 is heavy but, like you said, that is the reason i love it.

Plus there is a baseband switcher app (i.e. if you are planning to purchase the phone from say Europe) which switches the baseband from 900/1800 to 850/1900 and vice versa.
It is available on this forum in the dev section as well.

Really? Are you certain what this app does? To my knowlege, motorola does not include the hardware to do this, except on PRO versions of phones. On the Milestone 1, such apps are used to switch euro roms to north american baseband...but not euro phones to north american 3g.
But my Q9h pro used to work in this way, so i will take a look. Thxx for the tip.

I believe it won't work with 3G on T-mobile.. That uses 1700 base AWS for GSM. The baseband app only switches between 900/1800 and 850/1900.. Those are the radios that Milestone 2 has I guess..
Thats the extent of my knowledge.
This is pretty sweet if true. I could not find the app in the dev section, but i am now on vacation and have limited time for research.
I dont need tmo...just something thhat gives me 3g or more on ATT and Rogers.

Why is the gingerbread for DX still on a Froyo based kernel?

This caught my attention when I went to check what kernel was being used. I've seen the Nexus One, Nexus S and now HTC EVO(leak gingerbread), Galaxy S(official) all based on 2.6.35 gingerbread kernel. Why does the droid x gingerbread still have a "froyo" based 2.6.32 kernel still? I just don't get it. Thoughts? just curious.
here are the links:
galaxy s gingerbread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037447

because there is no official gb yet, and the bootloader is locked so we cant have custom kernals.
I doubt that could be reason. But I hope it changes in the official.

This is the exact reason why. It is currently not possible to flash an unofficial kernel so we are stuck with what we have. I think we should be very happy that we even got gingerbread
You are missing the point. I didn't say why we can't flash any kernel I said why it didn't come with gingerbread kernel. Its Motorola phone and they created the damn thing.
Could be that Motorola doesn't want to push the processor anymore. I do notice a significant difference between Froyo and gb. They could also be waiting till they push the official release. They might be trying to figure out how to block root first. Not that that will work. Just my .02.

Sounds like it. I guess we will see then. My only problem with gb is with wifi and bloatware taking up memory. Can't stream a 10min or 6min video without it timing out. And sometimes it don't find any networks when you turn it on. Annoying. Its a kernel issue though.

I'm not even sure it has to deal with pushing the phone anymore. A kernel is simply an interface to the hardware layer of the phone. You could have a 2.52 kernel that still clocks the phone the same without burning up the battery and the internals. I'm guessing that it is just a Moto thing. I haven't seen any other Moto devices with higher than the current kernel we have. My guess is they aren't focusing on the kernel. Right now, they have what they consider a stable kernel base, so they are just leaving it.
I can talk to a couple of dev's for their input, but I don't think that the kernel makes that big of a difference for us especially from a 2.32 to a 2.36 standpoint.
Just saying...

Yea that makes sense. I agree with you on those points. I'm sure the .35 kernel google is using for gingerbread is stable as well. Anyway Lets just see what happens when the official is released.
The ROM Download page for Liquid 3.0 shows downloads for chevyno1 kernels for both the Droid2 and the DroidX.
Is it possible to flash different kernels on this device?
If so, can you please provide details and instruction or perhaps provide a link to further info?
Thanks!
