2.3.4 random google server disconnects - Nexus S General

All -
Just wanted to see if anyone else was having an issue where after a manual 2.3.4 update the Nexus S will regularly "go white" (lose google server connection) and then reconnect throughout the day more than normal?
It's getting annoying not having my emails pushed on time and don't know if I need to reflash the 2.3.3 radio then let the OTA do its thing.
THanks!

I have the same symptom.
However, mine started since 2.3.3
For some reason, I used to think was related to me logging in Google Chrome
web browser with the same account as my phone uses, but I don't think that
was really the cause. ( I'm not talking about just gmail website log in, I'm talking
about literally the sync of Google Chrome web browser with my gmail account that
I use on my phone.)
Even after the update to 2.3.4, its stilll the same.
Random loss of google server connection and remaining in white for brief time.
I did factory reset few times just to see if it'd fix, but no luck, yet.

I've been having this issue too ever since I got on 2.3.4. It doesn't seem to happen when I'm on wifi though. I got my update over the air too, if that matters.

It's been happening to me for a while as well. Even back in 2.3.3 when I was on CM7 and OEM. I seriously think it's a problem on Google's side and they really need to address it because it keeps logging me off of Gtalk which is annoying.

I'm having the same problem since April 14, I've tried everything flashing stock 2.3.1-2-3-4, CM7, changing Apn setting, changing my sim card, factory resets and nothing works.
This is definitely coming from Google's side, please post in the google help forums to get the word out to google, this is a serious problem.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App

myself have noticed this since 2.3.4 although I think it's google end not the rom itself.
don't like it because the more often it happens... the more your battery is used...
hope it's not our carriers...

There's a thread on this in the help forums but since I'm a n00b i can't post the link here. Search for the help thread titled "Nexus S Google connection on & off "
Thanks! Let's get this fixed.

Four months ago this thread was created. Still not a word from Google.
If you go to Google's help forum here: http://www.google.vu/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=7c7a962fd3ae87e2&hl=en
You can see that the last response from anyone at Google was from 2 months back. This issue need to be fixed, but it looks like Google could care less. Maybe if we get the word out to Android Central and other Android blogs, or even Gizmodo or Engadget Google will actually take notice and try to fix this.

mine was related to my carrier... fixed it though
might be the same for you?

I had that problem, but was fixed when google released a server update months ago, never had a disconnect since.

I still have this problem.
Google issue is here http://goo.gl/0NXZi and is still unresolved.
My question about this is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16611955#post16611955

I'd like to know how you got this issue resolved ...I've been having this problem on an EVO that was replaced for my original EVO that drowned... constantly disconnects talk, gives me issues when downloading from market, gmail out of sync, even maps has issues...wtf...my OG EVO never had this problem...maybe you can shed some light...

It happens on both wifi and 3g

This just started happening to me yesterday and it's awful
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App

anything you did specifically yesterday? install an app. do an update?
also has anyone tried factory resetting their phone?

I got my Airave a few days ago and I am constantly disconnected from Google's servers unless I am on wifi. The stupid thing about that is my Airave connects directly to my modem before the router. This is telling me it must be a carrier thing.

I'm seeing something similar but it has to do with switching between 3g and wifi. The green doesn't come in for like 3 to 4 minutes. If I launch gtalk it sits there at logging in and nothing happens.

I'm willing to conclude based on the widespread nature of this issue that it's an issue on Google's end that has recently been affecting a larger number of people.
I've never had this issue before.. and recently it's started. In fact, I even have seen a few FC's (force closes) of the Google Apps process which I had never seen before. I'm on stock 2.3.4 BTW.

I love the Epic and Android but...

For the love of everything holy can Google get the god damn market to work correctly for at least a single day in a row? Then maybe slowly work up to a full week?
Every god damn day I run into the infamous downloads won't start because I can't sign into Google Talk issue. Or just days where a download even when signed into Google talk takes 8 and 1/2 years to start downloading.
Now, today, for hours and hours and hours every download is unsuccessful. I tried every STUPID magician trick and cache clearing known and still nothing.
God dammit this is annoying. Looking at their support forum shows this is a common every day occurrence.

I haven't really experienced any problems specifically with the market. Sometimes the data/4g connections seem to get tangled up and confused on which one should be active and it takes a minute to connect and sort out, but then it's golden.
Good to know that its not just me that has issues signing into google talk on almost a daily basis
I fired up my HEro this week, had a similar issue.. it was weird.. It appeared to be my password.. although... everything else sync'd correctly. I just redid my password in the sync portion and it's been flawless ever since.

Works fine for me. ::shrug::
If you have gtalk signing in problem, do you use any automatic task killer running?
I have never used task killer with my epic and had no problem with market. My gtalk is constantly running in the background. Don't kill that service.

From my understanding, your issue today is probably due to the fact that Google DDOS'd themselves

Evo user here... experiencing the same ridiculous issue. I called Sprint twice, and their "solutions" were
- Full data wipe
- Blame Google
- "Reinstall the Talk app" (I had to explain it came with the phone)
I was considering exchanging my Evo for an Epic because of this issue... but not after I found this thread :|
*checks market*
nope flawless here, only ever had 1 issue with the market, owned an Android phone for 2 years now.

Never used a task killer, and I have the gtalk issue on three android phones. Never had the market issue though, or at least never noticed it. Whenever I'm on 4G or wifi and move out of connnection range, or whenever i get a call, my phone takes anywhere between a few minutes to 30 minutes to reconnect to gtalk if I was previously online. This happens even when i have full 3G service. I have this issue on a rooted Epic, rooted Evo, and unrooted Evo. Each never use a task killer, since IMO they arent needed. I've even wiped each phone of all data for a fresh start in case there was an app causing some issue. Nothing. I never noticed this on my hero. I cant seem to figure out what the cause is, but it is quite annoying since the majority of my friends and coworkers use gtalk instead of text while at work.
I too am having tie issue. I'm on my third epic now (swapped for other reasons) and I have this issue about 50% of the time. Very frustrating!

Also, I had this problem on all 3 of my epics and my evo before that about half the time on each of them. This is over the last few months (all four of them I've had since August).
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
market is working flawlessly here.
yeah, most of us experienced the same problem yesterday. Going to wifi from 3g fixed it for me actually...
that being said it was very annoying. but it wasn't just you and it wasn't just epics. it was pretty much most androids
Now, does this only happen because you guys are using Google Talk? I've never used that application so obviously I've never had any sign in issues or the like. I've also never had any issues with the market.

[Q] Visual Voicemail NG After 3.14 Update

I recently updated my ROM to 3.14 and now my visual voicemail isn't working. Any ideas? It says it can't connect, try again later...
still investigating....
no work for me either and facebook won't refresh either...
Edit... forget it... facebook app still no refresh
I'm having the same problem, spent about an hour with their PDA department and was told it was being escalated and I should hear something within the next 3 days.....

Quick update, according to T-Mobile the issue has been logged as of the 30th of October as a nationwide issue and "they are working on the problem." Personally, I love the form of the HD2 and there are things about Winmo that I really like but I have had a number of issues with the phone and software to the point where I'm going to look at the new My touch 4G and go back to Android exclusively. Its not the Desire HD I was hoping T-Mobile was going to bring but it should keep me satisfied for 6 months or so.

Nexus S SMS bug still present with 2.3.3

The sms bug i'm talking about was supposed to have been fixed in 2.3.2 for the Nexus S, but, i have just experienced this supposedly fixed bug with 2.3.3, the bug is the one that sends a reply to a totaly different contact to the one that the reply was intened for, for instance, today i replied to an sms from a contact from within a messange thread but the reply was sent to a totaly different contact.
Anyone else experienced this "supposedly" fixed bug with 2.3.3.
I've never experienced it on 2.3.3. But, I never had it on 2.3.2 either.

and 2.3.2 is the version that fixed the SMS bug.. thats why you didnt experience it Zardos66
I used to get this a lot on 2.3.2. But since 2.3.3 I've yet to have this problem again. Although I do still get the random reboots...

ya I guess I've never had this issue either
i've definitely heard this issue, its a serious one and been in android for over 1 year now. google just fixed it recently, so i'd go post in their bug tracker that you still see this issue. its a real bad one.
i use handcent anyway which is immune to this bug, but still. i'd stop using the stock messaging app.

GO SMS has the fix as well. Highly recommend GO SMS, I used to use Handcent but made the switch to GO SMS.

I Have been using Android since the day the G1 launched, as has my girlfriend and neither one of us has ever experienced this bug period on any of our phones. We've had several hand set exchanges, and multiple hand set models. We are also very heavy texters.

Well i've just experienced this text bug again, in fact, i have experienced it a few more times since i created this thread, there are reports on the net that this bug is still present in Android 2.3.3, has anyone experienced this bug since their last post, or has anyone else experienced this bug, feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I'm still new to the nexus s, about a week on CM7 and no encounter with the bug, hopefully it will stay that way.

Spotty Internet connection since official gingerbread

Has anyone else had Internet connection issues since the ota?? I'll show full signal, but none of my Apps that use Internet will work nor will my browser.
Any fixes you can think of???

What radio do you have? (Settings, about phone, baseband version).
The following appears to be good:
N_01.77.30P
Quick search should find it for you if you are still on 15P.
That's the radio I'm on. Hmmmm... I guess no one else has this problem.

Yea, I have the problem, I think I've seen others with the problem too. The bars turn grey for me, and my internet still works but the market won't, anyways, I never had this problem off Gingerbread...

Having the exact same problem. So annoying!
i have the same problem... nmy apps report an internet conncection but doesnt download everything.
this seems like a packet loss problem to me but I'm not 100%
i can have full bars on both 3g or hspa or be on wifi and same problem
can anyone check to see if there is some sort of packet handling issue
Same issue here. What's worse is that the phone indicates everything is fine, until you actually try to retrieve some data.
I've found that cycling Airplane mode for about 30sec usually fixes this. I just added the Airplane Mode widget for now. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.
anyone have battery issues as well
i have also noticed another big issue....the batter stats is never correct....so lets say you have 15 percent battery left....reboot your phone and upon unlocking your phone your phone says that you have 50% battery left. or you use the internet or call for a bit and after 30 minutes your phone still says it has 100% battery left

Do you have the newest Market version on your phone? I was having that exact same problem. I CWM'd the older version of the Market and poof, no more problems. Might be a place to start.
Check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188740
If you have the latest Android Market installed, it seems that it's affecting connectivity. Some have reverted to the older Market and confirmed that the issues went away.
I am still on baseband .15 and the new market works fine.
I guess I'll wait for confirmation before I update my baseband to .30... It's really too bad because I am having random data drops with .15.

I take it you aren't using the new market app either?

Blue data bars, still no Internet.

It's as simple as it sounds - my data bars are full strength and blue, but trying to open web pages or the Play Store yield a "connection timed out" error for everything. Streaming music, trying to sync my gmail, nothing works. But my data bars are blue.
I'm on stock everything, rooted with cwm (but I don't think that would affect the radio at all). I even reflashed the stock radio file from the Google factory image. Still no dice.
Anybody got a fix for this?

I would like to look into any possible solution before giving up and trying to RMA it.
I had this issue all day everyday. Showed 4g but nothing. Never found a solution. Called Google, explained the situation. They didn't even attempt to troubleshoot. Just sent new phone so I assume there may be no fix. Have not had a problem since. Check your Sim card first though.

That's interesting. It didn't start giving me issues until today (this is the third day I've owned it) so perhaps it is indeed a dud. I'll give a new sim card a shot tomorrow when I go to work.
Where / what number did you call to get in contact with Google?
This has happened to me on occasion. I toggle airplane mode on and off, and then data comes back. It doesn't happen too often, though.

Ok, I'll give that a shot. If that works I'll give it another day or two before RMA-ing it, I'd prefer to not have to deal with issues like that if I'm well within the exchange policy, ya know
