noisy GSM sound / interferences - Xperia Play General

Hi!
I have a problem with my new Play. If i make phone-calls by GSM connection, there is a very noisy sound in the background.
Its like you put a phone next to a bad shielded loud-speaker.
Is this a general problem of the play, or could it be a technical failure of my phone?
Maybe some people can check this out for me by switching in the settings to GSM-Net only?
big thanks!

no one noted this problem?
WCDMA works fine for calls, but if the phone switches to GSM at worse WCDMA signal .. the problem occurs. I'm not shure .. is it normal, or a failure?
would be really nice if you can try this with your Plays .. tomorrow is the last day i can give it back to store for a new one.
How to switch to GSM only: settings -> network -> mobile network -> net-mode -> GSM only
I'm not shure about the accurate translation of the setting-names in english.
best regards

I have the same problem with my play. I haven't find one solution yet.
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

I switched to gsm only yesterday because it gives me a better signal at work. My voice calls are crystal clear. No problem at all.

I also noticed this problem. A background buzzing noise. I've just followed your advice and tried setting the network mode to GSM only, no buzzing sound. Then I tried WCDMA only, and still no buzzing. Finally switched back to auto and the buzzing returned.
So thanks for making this thread as it's prompted me to change the settings and no more annoying buzzing. Finally I'm on Orange UK, which should be the preferred option (GSM or WCDMA) for me to use?
D.

hey guys!
some news!
i contacted SE support, and they told me, its definitely not normal!
So i went to a shop of my provider to get a new device .. and now? no more noisy sound at GSM! It was a failure of the device! Not shure if hardware or software bug.

Really? I'm having the same problem too... noisy static noise during phonecall (not that loud, but noticeable - and it occurs only at my end)
I own several phones before and commonly place calls at my usual location (medium to strong reception) and never encountered any issues with my previous phones (motorola and htc).
The thing is.. I can send it back to check (and I have a 2 years warranty) - but maybe I'll check with one of my friend who own an xplay to compare if the static noise is there still...
Checking on Google I found several other Xperia model that also have similar issue (Xperia Mini with it's videocamera recording static noise) - and also in phone arena where they mention of the xplay static noise as well (http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-PLAY-4G-Review_id2838/page/3)
It's really frustrating...
Anyway thanks for the info.
Update
Ok I've tried using earphone and I made a call. Everything was crystal clear. On the same call I disconnected the earphones and checked the earpiece, static noise and crackling noise was there. It is highly a hardware issue. Tested both on GSM and Skype.
Update
Sent the phone back for warranty, and got it back within 3 days. Earpiece issue was fixed. Sony SC even upgraded my ROM to 2.3.4 (videocamera with autofocus now!) and threw me a nice 2012 Xperia calendar

my microphone is FAR TO QUIET :(

i went to use my vodafone VPA (working fine for last few months) for a phone call, and the person i was calling couldnt hear anything - bad line i thought.
then i called back and the same...

any idea's on how i can fix this? i've tried a hard reset, and taken the phone apart to see if its anything obvious (there isn't) i've also tried enabling/disabling microphone AGC - no avail

i have the same problem with my imate jam initially i thought it might be a software problem so i reflashed it with the origional Imate Rom and so now differance i played with all the settings i could find to no avail and finaly gave up
since my jam was still within its warranty period i gave it in for fixing i should be getting it back anyday now and if i can find out what they did with it i will definetly post it here
Just talked to the guy i gave my phone to today he said tht he tried changing the microphone part but it still had the same problem it seems that there is some problem with an IC ( whatever that is) and he has more chances of killing it totally then actually fixing it if he tries to change it

Noise in the speaker - ideas?

Since a couple of days I started to hear some noises in the speaker when calling or receiving a call. It's something like hearing the other person outdoor with the wind blowing, and its getting worse when I am moving.
Any idead what to do before sending Blackstone to the provider? I tried to change rates/bands from 3G/GSM because I played with it before and also reflashed the rom with 1.7 DUtty's - no effect. I think I am gonna reflash the radio - not sure if that would help.
PS I've also checked the speaker in search of hair, dust, debris - it's clear but doesnt sound like. Funny thing - the voice in the headset are perfect also the music is alright so I am getting the feeling that it could be software issue.
Please kindly advise
another strange issue - I did a hard reset and the noise is gone (using the 3g) however when lying down on bed talking through it in the horizontal position I can hear that noise again (although not so loud and often as before which is fine)
could it be the g-sensor issue?
Had The exact same problem with my first 2 touch hd`s. I got both replaced on warranty. The first one worked at first but got gradually worse. The second one came like that. I am now on my third and no problems so far.
Tried everything to fix the first 2. New radios, hard reset. Nothing seems to fix it.
why there's no interference when on loudspeaker or playing music? seems that the speaker is fine.
checked the sim in other phone - fine. WTF? I'll try to reflash the radio tomorrow if not sending it back to be replaced.
How to obtain orange fault code which is needed by my phone provider? call the cs?

noise in speaker during phone call

Hi
Is this issue allready raised?
During a phone call I can hear a significant background noise like if it would be a "not good" connection. But my counterpart is hearing me quite nicely.
The noise is there IF I call somebody than it is significant and realy to loud to "overhear" it.
On the other side if a get a call, there is nearly no noise at all.
All testing was done with 2 different phones and alwasy the same counterpart
Therefore I hope that this could be influenced by a better finetuning of the firmware/radio.
any idea - trick - recommendation?
Best regards,
dingolino
i'm having the same problem.
Whenever I call someone, I can ear a low noise similar to radio static in short bursts...
Haven't noticed if the same happens when i'm receiving a call so I will have to test this.

Radio interference kind of noise in the handset speaker when on a call..
I have a similar problem on my HTC Desire Z. I got this phone 2 days back in New Delhi, India from a HTC dealer (no worries about the source here). I'm using it on a GSM network (Vodafone). Its a beauty, with excellent call quality and clarity, superb screen resolution and colors, great speed and very good build quality.
But for one single nagging issue...
When on a call, sometimes, the handset speaker starts giving a soft dull crackling sound.. radio interference (like the one you hear when you bring a handset close to unshielded speakers). It stays on and may or may not go away during the call. Sometimes this noise is not heard at all. I have tried changing locations, holding it at different angles, switching off all wireless (blue-tooth and WiFi), using another network's SIM card and played around with all the settings and options within the handset (like turning off cell broadcast, selecting 'GSM Only' network etc).
But the problem remains.
This noise is not there when I use the headset. Its also not there when I use the speakerphone (when using the speaker phone, the device uses a second speaker and not the regular one on the front of the handset).
Even though I plan to write to HTC today and try and get a replacement device, I thought I will try looking for a solution too (though there are hardly any leads on this on the internet). Does anyone else with a HTC Desire Z face this problem, of radio interference sound on the handset speaker?
If anyone knows of a solution, please do let me know. Thanks in advance..

Intermittent Popping / Zapping sound during calls (internal speaker)

Apologies if someone has posted about this, but I couldn't find anything.
I have an infrequent problem during phone calls, where there is a popping/zapping sound that comes from the internal speaker. It doesn't sound like normal reception difficulties so much as an electrical zapping sound from the speaker itself - sort of like the speaker is short-circuiting for a split-second (the zap is very brief).
The weird thing is, though, if I make a Skype call it's far more prominent/frequent - suggesting that it might have something to do with the quality of connection.
I don't have any issues with my bluetooth headset or handsfree.
Anyone experienced something similar?
I have it sometimes
Hello people!
I believe I have the same problem as you guys and it has become more severe till yesterday. It has become more difficult to listen to people but for just one call about an hour ago it became normal again but just for a while...
I have bought the phone about 25 days ago and I'm sceptical as to whether I should ask for a new device.
What do you all think?
Does this problem persist for you?
How long have you had your DHD?
Thanks in advance
For me it's bearly a problem. Happens almost never. I have my device since November 11
its a big problem and not limited to just the HD. It also occurs on the Z as well. It never happens on a 3g connection just on a 2G call. I returned my HD because of this, purchased a Z because i thought it was limited to the HD but it wasnt;( I have now sold my Z and awaiting the release of the Nexus S. It really has put me off HTC phones for life;( You wont get this problem if you are living in a good 3g area.

[Q] Audio Problem - Only on calls

hi,
my girlfriend owns a blackstone that recently started to do some noises, some crackling during calls.
it happens over speaker, loud speaker and even on headphones... but only on calls, because on music player sounds perfectly.
full network coverage, so that is not the problem.
any idea what could be the problem?
thanks
Does the other phone (which u called) receive your voice well and clear?
yes, they ear me well and clear, on every call.
mine does this problem on every call, it´s not problem of the other phone,I can notice the noise even on the waiting tone before other people answer the call
I am not sure, i have never had such a problem but i know that our HD switches gsm to 3g - or 3g to gsm- network continuously. So can it be what causes such a problem? I don't think it is a hardware problem. So you can try restoring to defaults & hard resetting or changing rom. I don't have any other opinion for now, sorry
have you tried another radio rom followed by a hard reset?
after all, the radio handles these things and newer radio often have better call quality.
