MIUI Nook Color 1.9.16 on SD Card?

I have searched diligently and have yet to find specific instruction for creating a bootable SD card for my NC with MIUI Nook Color 1.9.16 (or any version of MIUI for that matter).
I am currently running a fully rooted version of 1.3 on the emmc and "all is well" and I need it left that way so as to continue having access to "in store reading" which I use quite a bit.
Have previously had CM7 and Phiremod running both internally and on an SD card at various times and tried to do a previous version of MIUI on the card using the same process without any luck.

Important part is to rename the miui zip like this -
'How to update to a new build:
put the new build you want to try on the first partition. (the name must be update-cm-*.zip or cm_encore_full*.zip or just update-*.zip)'

Loaded and running from SD card.
It installed/is using the new Market interface (3.1.3?).
Where are/is "My Apps" as I do not seem to be able to find it.
D/L Netflix and it runs just as it should but the soundlevel at max is quite a bit lower than on rooted 1.3.

What did you rename the MIUI file? I've tried it a couple different ways and checked the MD5's, but keep getting errors. Unless my SD card has been corrupted somehow (I used it for other SD boots before this, so not too likely), I can't think of anything else causing the problem.

Hi. I tried putting the MIUI zip in the root of the sd card and booted into recovery as stated. It was renamed as one of the cm7 updates and installation went as per normal. However, when I did boot up the nook was stuck looping the MIUI animation and did not finish. What did I do wrong?

Maybe just didn't wait long enough... the first boot takes a long time since the update script clears cache and dalvik cache.
Of course... this is just a wild guess since you didn't provide a whole lot of information... more information may yeild different feedback.

What kind of information? My nook color originally had the latest CM7 nightly on the sd card. I followed verygreen's method when I installed that. I used the NC normally. Then, I followed this thread and applied verygreen's method. I downloaded the MIUI rom from the miui thread, renamed it like the cm7 nightly zip ("cm_encore_full-253.zip") and put it in the root of the sd card. I put the sd card back in and booted via recovery. It installed and shut down. I turned it on again, and reached the MIUI globe thing. It was looping and stuck there for 30 minutes.

I've been thinking of trying miui.
If anybody has got.it running from SD please give the step-by-step procedure for the rest of us.

I hate to revive a dead thread, but I have been trying everything I could read or download.

I am trying to flash MIUI 1.9.16 (MIUI.us_encore_1.9.16_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed_andmer) (http://goo-inside.me/miui/encore/)
I successfully installed CM7 to this Sandisk Class4 16gig microSD. Every time I try to flash MIUI, I re-burn the size agnostic card image, copy over the cm7-renamed MIUI ROM, and boot.
The installer seems to work, just like my CM7 installs. Then, when I try to reboot, it goes back to the installer (linux penguin at the top, goes through the motions of trying to flash another rom, when not finding anything, it shuts down).
I know I am missing something simple.
Am I to install CM7, then MIUI on top of it (without reburning the card)? Am I just using an SD-incompatible ROM? For those who were successful, where did you download the ROM from?
I know I have lots of questions, I hope you guys see my effort (that I don't just want someone to give me a quick fix), and I thank you in advance for your help.

I'm certainly no expert, but I have flashed two different versions of MiUi to micro SD cards adn then worked fine. You do not need to do i over CM7. Like you, I prepared a clean SD and used the size agnostic procedure. I renamed the MiUi file to some that started with update-cm-

I used a program called SD Formatter to format the card.. then I used the 1.3 version installer. I sometimes had problems using winimage to create this sd card . You have to select the drive letter for the sd card and then use the "restore" choice on the menu.

David, thanks for your response. I had already wiped it and installed CM7, but when I saw your post, I gave MIUI one last try. I downloaded from that site, and BAM, it installed perfectly! Thanks heaps!

[Q] Help w/CM7 sd card install on new NC

Hello, Just got a refurbished NC with version 1.2 (read forever). Works great from stock system, but I'm trying to install CM7 on SanDisk 8gb card via post directions on:
[ROM][CM7] [v1.3] Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards
I've tried the 2 latest stable updates 7.1.0 and 7.0.3 and everything seems to install fine with the last lines saying "all steps complete...flushing caches...shutting down"
When I restart, it goes to the last 20 or so lines of the install and shuts down again (same messages at the end...all steps etc) I've redownloaded both the green 1.3 installer image and the stable roms. When I tried a "nightly" the install stopped on a line saying "looking for file starting with update..." or something like that and it sat there until I held the power button for a looong time.
I did try searching for a solution but couldn't find one like this problem. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or not doing? Thanks
One thought...the 8gb card doesn't show what class... it only says Sandisk Micro HC

Are you certain you are dropping the CM7 files on the root of the boot partition on the SD?

You seem to describe doing it right but we need step-by-step how you get it done in order to maybe figure out where the culprit is.
I would suggest RECREATE the bootable uSD first.
Note: redownload the image file if needed.

formatted 8gb micro via windows 7
downloaded image installer 1.3 via xda
downloaded winimage
restored sd card from image (generic...)
I saw boot disk w/4 files
downloaded latest stable cm7 and copied directly (zipped)to boot partition on sd
inserted sd in NC
it loaded and started updating for about 60 secs like mentioned above
it automatically shut down
When I restart NC, there is a quick white screen it goes to loading and redoes the last 20-30 lines of update and shuts down again. The lines go by so quick I can't read it (or more accurately remember them)
I've redownloaded both install image and stable updates with same results. When I tried downloading a niightly, the installer stopped midway with last line saying something like...looking for file starting with update...
Any help is appreciated

I have the same device as you (refurb NC 1.2 from the recent dailysteals sale) and did the exact things that you did except use win32diskimager instead of winimage, and it installed the cm7 nightly 240 without any issues. It's only afterward that I ran into trouble, trying to install gapps (read about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332441)
same device, same procedure, different results.

You might want to re-download cm7 zip file... you can use 7-zip or winrar to "Test archive" to see if it is corrupt before copying it to the boot partition of the uSD.

Like jh mentioned, I would give win32diskimager a try, there were many reported of winimage didn't work well.
Search for the win32diskimager, older version is better for some reason, 0.15 or something. If you can't find, let me know, I'll host the file.
Again, redownload all files, make sure no hiccup in the middle of downloading process.
What you did was correct, just to let you know.

update!
I took out the micro 2gb sandisk from my phone and tried it again doing the normal install. It works! So, next question. Can I make an image of the 2gb sd and restore it on the 8gb sd and via some procedure maximize the rest of the sd?
Any ideas why 8gb didn't work in first place? I had done a full format via windows explorer before trying the first time. Even tried formatting via NC and still no luck. The 8gb was being used in my rooted Eris phone with no problems.

By any chance you got the counterfeit one? the 8GB

not counterfeit...I think...because when fully formatted it was 7.4+ gb

Found another 8gb sandisk micro and used it. Worked perfectly. I should have tried that first and saved a whole lot of time and energy! Thanks to all that chimed in with suggestions.

You have to use at least a class 4 card and that still works pretty pokey. I have my nook overclocked and running on internal and it is almost as fast as a stock Atrix

[Q] Please help!!! Noobie messed up NC (big time)

I have a Nook Color. Somehow (and I really can't recall how), I can no longer get to the B&N side of my Nook. Even with the micro-SD out, I still go directly into CYANOGEN. To make matters worse, every single app I try to get from the market will not download. Once I 'Accept & download', the app starts to download then I get an Error overlay screen: "name-of-software" could not be downloaded due to an error.
So I have a V--E--R--Y generic tablet that can't do much. Please help.

That's part of the problem. I did not consciously install to internal memory, I wanted it to boot from the SD card.

That's what I did once. I unwittingly installed it onto the internal memory. It also happened to be really buggy. I restored it to stock using Clockworkmod Recovery. Did you use the installer for the SD card?

On a 16GB microSD, I used Win32DiskImager to write 1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer to a newly-formatted SD card.
I put the ZIP file for: gapps-gb-20110828-signedgapps-gb-20110828-signed, and gapps-gb-20110828-newtalk-signed.
I tried the home-power key combo. It asks me if I'm sure that I want to restore to the factory. I say "Yes" but when the Nook starts up, I'm still in cyanogen mod.
Should I (re-)format the MicroSD, write 1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer (or another version) then move recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.1-encore?
Aside from not being able to get back to B&N-supplied software, I can't do anything with the NC as an Android tablet.

OP, do you intend to install CM7 into the internal memory?

All I'm trying to accomplish is to get back to the factory NC settings. Once I can get there, I'll decide.

Power down your NC. Wait approximately 10 seconds or so-- just give it a bit of a break between shut down and factory reset.
Press and hold power button and your "N" home button almost simultaneously-- press Power first and then the N.
Hold these until your screen flashes the "Touch the future of reading" message; hold for a second or two afterward, then release. You will then get a prompt asking if you want to reset your nook to factory. Press the home button to continue. It will ask you to confirm. Press the home key again. Your nook will deregister, reset, and when it reboots, you will see "Kate" in her tutorial video, as if you'd never registered it in the first place.
(Obviously your account info will still be valid-- simply register with your email/pw combo instead of creating a new account.)

I did this (more than once - grrrrrrrrrrrrr!). I never see the "touch the future....." message. Instead, I get a cyanogen mod 7 screen with the message "Booting into Recovery". Then I get a sickly yellow-greenish screen that asks (twice) if I want to teset. I confirm both times then it "wipes" the data. It then boots into a cyanogen mod 7 screen (and the skateboarding 'droid) and I go through the registration process.
Now, when I select a Google app, the downloading (Google Maps) seems to be taking forever, but at least I'm not getting the error I got before.
Also, I do not see the progress of the download that I'm used to seeing on my phone. All I see is "movement" under the "Downloading..." message. How long do I leave it before I abort the download?

Your micro sd card is removed right?

Eyeballer is a clockwork recovery bootable SD image which is used to install stuff (e.g. CM7) to internal memory.

VeryGreen (size agnostic thread) is the SD image which creates a full OS on the SD card itself leaving the internal memory alone.

You have used the Eyeballer method and have therefore done an internal install. You must also have installed a CM7 zip not just the gapps zip as they are just google apps and not an actual ROM.
You have 2 ways forward.
The simplest is if you want to end up with internal CM7 and are not interested in running the B & N ROM. Start again by creating the Eyeballer SD card using win32diskImager. Make sure you use a real USB SD adapter and not a card slot on a laptop. Put onto the card the CM7 ROM zip. I recommend the one from the KANG MiRaGe thread in the development forum. It is the most up to date and stable version available at the moment. Also put on one gapps zip (20110828). Now put the card in Nook, Power up and when in recovery then use the menus to format system, data and cache. Do NOT format boot. Then flash the CM7 ROM zip, then the gapps zip. Power down and prepare a clean SD card either by reformatting the eyeballer card with something like the HP USB card utility or a partition manager in the PC like miniTools. You could also use a different SD card if you want to keep the eyeballer one for future use. Put the card back in, power up and you should now be in a stable CM7 environment where you can set up wifi, register with the Google market and download apps.
The second way if you really want to return to stock on the internal and run CM7 of the SD card then use the eyeballer method but instead of flashing CM7 and gapps you now use a return to stock zip. Make sure you still format the partitions as before.

Once you have it back to stock and upgraded to whatever stock you want then follow the VeryGreen method from the link above. Once the SD card has put CM7 on itself, do not worry that there is only a 114MB space if you ever put the card back in the PC. That is normal; it is just the boot partition that the PC sees. The rest of the card can be seen if you USB connect the Nook to the PC.

I'm back at the NC "baseline". I tried to go back to a 1.2 (which is what it came with) using "update-nc-stock-1.2-signed". Once I re-booted, it kept returning to the NOOK COLOR screen. Then I used a 1.0.1 from your last post. It came back fine with 2 exceptions. 1) I now have a message that I need to install a SD card. When I do, my (Windows Explorer) "Computer" screen only recognizes the SD card and not the Nook. These are piddly little issues, but if I can get them fixed, great! (Right now, I cannot upgrade the NC or move any books or load any apps.

I had this same problem. Since I am a new member, and can't post links, I'm going to try to help.
Install Clockwork Recovery to an SD card. Yes, the same way you did when installing clockwork to the SD the first time.
There are some threads on other fourms (google is your friend) that have links to Update files that allow you to update while keeping clockwork recovery, and some that will remove clockwork recovery. If you can remove the SD card and boot into the Stock Nook OS, then don't worry about installing 1.0.0 or 1.0.1 like some of the forms say. Just place the .ZIP file of the hacked update (usually 1.3 or 1.4 I think) into the root folder of the SD card, then Install it on your NC just like installing CM7 onto the internal memory. Your nook should start working again. It restored mine to full functionality. I can now pay 3 Dollars for angry birds, but at least its not as terribly slow and laggy as it was with CM7.

I had the same issue last weekend, somehow my internal memory had become unrecognizable to anything, and the local Barnes and Noble store had a SD card that repartitioned the internal memory, and I was back in business. And as an added bonus I now have the 4 GB app/BN partition and the 1 GB mostly useless partition.

The instructions I see when googling around where I see that image mentioned are instructions for installing onto the Nook Color internal memory.
In the simplest case, making an n2a card is much less complicated than that ~ all you need is on the PC, write the size agnostic image, then drop in the CM7 build you want to use, then put the card in the Nook and it creates itself. There are upsides and downsides to different n2a methods, but that one seems to be the easiest ~ I've done it successfully several times, and I'm certainly nothing like an expert when it comes to these Android systems.
A recovery card image will make a bootable recovery card ... and while that might not have been what you needed to get what you want, its what you need to get the nook back to stock.
You might want to go to

... to get a version of the 1.4.1 upgrade that your recovery card can install. You'll probably have to wipe all sorts of partitions, which means you'll have to sign in with the B&N store again and you'll get to download you B&N apps again, but that's pretty straightforward.

... says that it will be necessary to format ("wipe") the /data and /system partitions, but it doesn't seem like you'll lose anything you want to keep. After all, you've either overwritten or completely tangled up your stock B&N info.
That post above has 1.4.1. There should be a signed 1.4.2 lying around somewhere, but if not, once its back to stock, you can update to 1.4.2 the normal way, download the B&N update file, drop it in the root of the Nook, make sure its at least 30% charged, and let it go to sleep, which will run the update file.

[Q] A Few Problems.

so i have cm 7.3.0-encore installed and
1) i cant get the android apps to install
2)cm mod( rom manager 4.2.0.2 clockwork mod 3.2.0.1) will not let me updgrade to premium
when i try to download rom it tells me i must upgrade rom manager to latest version and when i press ok i get another box that says "the application ROM Manager process com.koushikdutta.rommanager) has stopped unexpectedly please try again" and when i press ok i get sent bact to the home screen.
3)when i try to reboot into recovery,1) with the sd card in,i get booted to the main cyanogen mod home screen
4) and when i try to install gapps i go into the recovery,/install zip from sd card/choose zip from sd card/confirm install/when it says install complete,i exit out(reboot system now)it goes back to the main nook color screen so i have to power the nook off and back on so it can boot into cm. once back in cm,i dont have any market.
Oh and my software version is 1.2.0
PLEASE HELP!!

Please provide some basic info about your system and what you are trying to do.
1. Where did you get cm7.3.0?
2. On your very last sentence, 1.2.0. What is that?
3. How have you run "which ROM"? from eMMC or uSD?
Those info is a good start to get more help.

i hvae to pull up the site i got the mod from (i believe it was the cyanogen forum,ill get back to you on that)
2 1.2.0 is the stock nook firmware.(i believe they are up to 1.4 now)
3 i have no idea what your talking about.(im hoping your asking wether im running from internal or sd card. if that is the case,im running from the sd card

OK... to help you there are several things we must know... since answers to each can influence the method we need to get things working as they should:
1. Which method did you use to setup your SD? i.e. verygreen's SASD, racks11479 or another method.
2. Which ROM are you having issues with? i.e. CM7 on SD, Stock 1.2 on eMMC
3. What "android apps" are you having issues with? i.e. google apps (gApps) or another specific "android" app... since they are ALL android apps.
If you used verygreen's SASD then you CANNOT use the stanard ROM manager and CWM to install gApps... you have probably screwed up your stock system and installed gApps there... not that it will work... but you are now no longer "stock"
If you can answer these questions and elaborate as to exactly what you have done, and are trying to accomplish, we can provide informed suggestions to you... otherwise we can flood this thread with a TON of solutions that will EVENTUALLY work... but waste lot of time and cause you much frustration along the way.

2) used win image to burn generic sd card image to the sd card
3) once burned, i put cm7.3.0 encore zip file in the root of the sd card
4) put sd card in nook
5) let the install run

First off, you are running CM7.0.3, NOT 7.3 since it is not exist.
Secondly, I start following this post of yours. Pls note, whatever you did or have done described in your very first post were totally screw. Don't know who show you that.
Anyway,
Let's put it this way.
1. Your device is NC (NOOKColor)
2. Your NC is running stock ROM version 1.2.0 on eMMC.
3. You want to run CM7.0.3 on external uSD card.
4. You have problem getting Android apps.
Right? OK
1) got a sandisk 16gb micro sd card and fomatted it to fat 32. => good
2) used win image to burn generic sd card image to the sd card.
Ans: I strongly suggest you getting the Win32DiskImager since a lot of members reported having issue with WinImage.
3) once burned, i put cm7.3.0 encore zip file in the root of the sd card.
Again. It is CM7.0.3.
Assume after successfully done creating a bootable uSD using Win32Diskimager, put your cm7.0.3 (or suggesting using CM7.2-RC KANG) into the root folder, where you see those mlo, ramdisk, ... file. It should only 4 files there at this time.
4) put sd card in nook => correct
5) let the install run => it should
6 - after successfully install, it will automatically delete the cm7.0.3 zip file then shutdown.
7 - remove the uSD, put back into PC, download and copy GApps and put it the root folder, same place where you just put the ROM before.

Note: rolling all the way down and select one for CM7, not CM9
8 - remove the uSD off PC, put it back into the NC, power it up
9 - let it boot into CM7 first, do connect to your wifi at this point is a good choice, then reboot and choose reboot into recovery using the menu.
10 - after it boots back into recovery, it will install the GApps now and shutdown again.
11 - reboot and start using.
NOTE: the way I show you above is the easiest way. There are several ways that are so good and too convinience but it's far more advance for newbie. When you get used to the NC, you will find out more.

Secondly, I start following this post of yours. Pls note, whatever you did or have done described in your very first post were totally screw. Don't know who show you that.
Anyway,
Let's put it this way.
1. Your device is NC (NOOKColor)
2. Your NC is running stock ROM version 1.2.0 on eMMC.
3. You want to run CM7.0.3 on external uSD card.
4. You have problem getting Android apps.
Right? OK
1) got a sandisk 16gb micro sd card and fomatted it to fat 32. => good
2) used win image to burn generic sd card image to the sd card.
Ans: I strongly suggest you getting the Win32DiskImager since a lot of members reported having issue with WinImage.
3) once burned, i put cm7.3.0 encore zip file in the root of the sd card.
Again. It is CM7.0.3.
Assume after successfully done creating a bootable uSD using Win32Diskimager, put your cm7.0.3 (or suggesting using CM7.2-RC KANG) into the root folder, where you see those mlo, ramdisk, ... file. It should only 4 files there at this time.
4) put sd card in nook => correct
5) let the install run => it should
6 - after successfully install, it will automatically delete the cm7.0.3 zip file then shutdown.
7 - remove the uSD, put back into PC, download and copy GApps and put it the root folder, same place where you just put the ROM before.

Note: rolling all the way down and select one for CM7, not CM9
8 - remove the uSD off PC, put it back into the NC, power it up
9 - let it boot into CM7 first, do connect to your wifi at this point is a good choice, then reboot and choose reboot into recovery using the menu.
10 - after it boots back into recovery, it will install the GApps now and shutdown again.
11 - reboot and start using.
NOTE: the way I show you above is the easiest way. There are several ways that are so good and too convinience but it's far more advance for newbie. When you get used to the NC, you will find out more.

so i did everything and most of i went as planned until.....
10) i pressed the power button to power off and pressed reboot( i got 3 choices 1-reboot,2-recovery 3-bootloader) i pressed recovery and it rebooted back into cm7. so i powered down the nc,took the sd card out and powered on it went to the stock nc menu. so i re-inserted the sd card and rebooted through the clockwork mod menu,once again it booted into the cm7 without installing gapps, so i once again powered down took out the sd card,powered up.it finnaly booted into recovery so i inserted the sd card(again) went down to "install zip from sd card,choose zip from sd card chose gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip.installed it said install from sd card complete chose reboot system now. it booted into stock nook.so i powered off and back on into cm7 just to find out GAPPS DID NOT INSTALL. so im at the point where im just gonna get a n2a premade card or something. but i do want to say to say THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY FOR YOUR HELP

Did I just said whatever you did or have done, described on your very first post were screw up?
Why would you do that?
You follow to step 10, you are very close to get it up and running then you continue to do the wrong way. That's why you can't get your NC work.
On which instruction you got that shows you doing the "went down to "install zip from sd card,choose zip from sd card" when you are running CM7 from uSD?
My suggestion, start over again, go slow.
Since using the uSD, why not using the stable CM7.1 or CM7.2 KANG? Get rid of the 7.0.3

[Q] CWM keeps losing update file

I recently installed CM 7 to emmc after running it from sd for a year. When I first did the emmc install I used mirage 3/4 but when 7.2 was released I decided to try it. Now I want to install the new mirage kang but when I copy the file to my sd card it's not there when CWM looks for it. I wiped data and cache but every time I have CWM look for the file to install it only finds CM 7.2. Any thoughts?
I tried to search but not being able to search for exact phrases makes it hard to find anything.
[edit] When I get home I'll try reinstalling from the eyeballer card I made. Should I format my non-recovery sd card? I didn't need to use the eyeballer card to install 7.2. What's going on here?

Which SD did you put the mirage file on? If you were still using the SD from your SD install, it is not partitioned right to be using with CWM. CWM is expecting just a plain vanilla SD. You may have the mirage file on partition 4 which CWM cannot see.

It was the card from my sd install but I had formatted it when I originally did the emmc install. Also, I used a different card for the emmc install.
What I don't understand is how I updated to 7.2 by putting the file on the sd card and installing it from CWM but when I did the same thing to install the latest Mirage kang it didn't work. I tried toggling the signed requirement in CWM since Mirage isn't signed but it didn't make any difference. Even now that I deleted data and caches and installed Mirage from CWM card the 7.2 file is still on my main sd card and I can't delete it. Do I need to use the CWM card every time I do an update? Could TiBU be causing this?

Do you have your emmc and SD card swapped in CM? You may think you have it on SD but really have it on emmc. And CWM can't see emmc.

No, at least I didn't set it that way. I skipped that part of mr72's guide. Not only that but I tried putting a copy each on my emmc and my sd and it disappeared from the card and wasn't seen on the emmc.
I redid the whole install earlier. I'm going to try putting a Mirage file on the card now and see if CWM sees it.

OP, I've tried to help but really, I can't understand your issue, especially this: "I have CWM look for the file to install it only finds CM 7.2"
What else do you expect it looks for and finds?
Anyway, pls do list as much as info so we can help. I don't want to guess.

2. I understand you want to update Cm7. Which version?
3. Since you are running CM7 from eMMC, let just focus on 1 uSD, called "flashable CwM Recovery" uSD. Version 3.2.0.1 is preferred.
4. Do list what else (which files) you have on that uSD. (Using windows)
5. Briefly describe how and what shows on the CwM Recovery window
The more info we gather, the better chance we pinpoint to your problem

Instead it sees the CM 7.2 RC1 file. That's why I was guessing TiBU, because normally when I flash a file it disappears from the card. I flashed CM 7.2 RC but it won't go away, even if I try to delete it. After conducting the experiment from my previous post I am wondering if my flash card is going bad. I'll do further experiments along that line today.

If you are referring to when I run CWM from this card it installs everything fine.When I wrote this question I was trying to flash the Mirage ROM from recovery and after I selected "install from sd" and "choose which file to install" my only choice was update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-encore-signed.zip rather than the update-encore_CM72-MiRaGe-03232012.zip I expected to see.
Thanks for trying to help. Later today I will try copying my data sd card to another card and see if that fixes the programs saying the card is not available. If it does I will assume the other card is bad. Seem reasonable?

a. For less complicated, do just put ONE file in the root folder of your CwMR uSD card, not two. Just put the Mirage there, remove the other.
b. FYI, the latest Mirage is also CM7.2-RC1.

If what you listed on 4) above is all correct, then what you see is the Mirage CM7.2 RC1

Well, I guess I have my answer. I tried to format my 16 GB data card and it wouldn't format. Looks like card failure. Unless someone has a better idea I'm just going to order another card and chalk this up to running the OS off the card for so long. If flash memory only has a limited number of read/write cycles that must have burned through them.

Read/write cycle of the flash devices are usually high, 2000+ time, I doubt that you have burnt through.
Anyway, what tool you use to format your uSD?

If I was you, b4 purchasing another card, I would try to reformat the card and re-create its flashable CwMR.
If that didn't help, then order new one but note since you only need it for install ROM, 1GB or 2GB is more than enough.

I want at least a 16 GB card for my data and media. I have a 4 GB that I use for CWM and OS testing. I was using the 16 GB card for my OS when I was running off the card. After I installed to emmc I used the 16 GB card for data. The 16 GB is the card that I was having the problem with at the beginning of this thread. Since then I copied everything except my media onto the formatted 4 GB card and everything is running fine. I tried to format the 16 GB card using HPUSBDiskFormat but I got a message "Cannot Format". What program should I be using to format the card?
Other strange things that make me think the 16 GB card was the problem: I recently put some books on the card but they disappeared, one of my apps that is installed on the card keeps disappearing and I have to reinstall it, picture gallery keeps telling me that it can't read the sd, I can't delete files from the card either on the Nook or on my computer.
I hope it isn't the card and you guys know exactly what the deal is but after I put the 4 GB card in place of the 16 GB those problems aren't happening anymore. The final test will be to put an update file on the 4 GB card and boot to recovery. If CWM can see it I can't see how the 16 GB card isn't the problem.

I am aware of that but I couldn't get the non-Mirage file to delete. I tried but it wouldn't go away.

There's CWM on the card and CWM on the Nook. I could not get CWM on the Nook to see the update file on a non-CWM card. Previously it had. I got it to work by reinstalling from my CWM 4 GB card.

This card was formatted with HPUSBDiskFormat before writing CWM to it.

I am aware of this. The fact that it wasn't working like that is the reason I started this thread.

Now, it's a bit clearer that you have both CwM Recovery.
As I always mentioned and recommended NOT to flash CwMR into eMMC as it causes more headache than good but still many others choose to go that way and report more issue. Anyway, let's put that aside.
First step, reformat your 16GB card using MiniTools Wizard. I wish you luck there, if it can't, toss the card but if it's OK then second step, create a flashable CwMR 3.2.0.1 and put just the Mirage ROM in there.
I'm sure you know what to do.
Let us know how things go.

I may have done a dumb thing in installing CWM to the emmc but I was following a guide and didn't want to screw anything up. The reason I put off the emmc install for so long is that fear of bricking my Nook. So far so good on that front.
That tip about MiniTools is very helpful. I was sure there was something better than what I was using but I didn't know what it was. So far I'm getting very strange results when trying to format the card. The program says that the format worked but the files are still on the card. Surface test didn't show any errors. I tried to remove the old partition and create a new one but while that appeared to work there was no change on the card. I do notice that it wants to format the card in NTFS but I was under the impression that it should be FAT 32.
Is the card trashed? I can't think of anything else to try. I even flipped the lock switch and checked it. Still can't delete anything. I can't even delete a picture that I put on there.

As a last hope I tried putting the 16 GB card in my camera to see if the camera could format it. No luck. If the camera can't do anything with it the card is dead. Oh well, at least I got all my data off of it.
Votinh, do you know of any guide to removing CWM from emmc? It wasn't the problem in this case but it's not necessary. I didn't really want it but I thought that's how flashing worked on emmc. I see now that I can use ROM Manager for that.

Honestly, I chose to never flash CwMR into eMMC so I don't have much experience how to remove it, but I'm sure there is way. Will report back if I stumble across any thread about it. NOTE: having CwMR in eMMC is NOT so bad, it just gets you more headache down the road. A lot of people get it installed.
About your card, it's very itchy, ehhhh
Have you actually hit the format button or done or save whatever? and do so with FAT32, not NTFS.

Yes, unfortunately. I hit format and then the check mark on the far left which I'm pretty sure is save. It certainly said it was doing something and that it had completed the operation successfully. All the files are still on the card though, after 2 formats, one NTFS and one FAT 32, remove and create, and 1 wipe. The files are all still showing on the card and I can't delete any or add any new.

What brand of your 16GB card is it?
I can't imagine that card was extensive damage like that.
Format many times and files still there, amazing.

The card is a Dane Electric from Newegg. I was surprised that it worked as well as it did for running the OS since it's not a SanDisk.
